Perhaps the pinnacle of rock anthems in all of history. I run various party DJ gigs and still to this day include it in many playlists! Never fails to get them moving! A nice full range, powerful sound system with this thing cranked will stand the hair up on the back of your neck...and you can't help but smile and be happy!
Eddie was married to actress valerie Bertinelli and now food critique and cook on food channel for years. Their son Wolfie is also a musician and plays various instruments but mostly bass and guitar.

I think that many of us would love to see you react to more songs by Van Halen. For the next one's, I recommend Panama and hot for teacher.
As I read the story, the singer, David Lee Roth wrote the lyrics around a single phrase: “Go ahead and jump.” He came up with the line after watching the news and seeing a man on top of the Arco Tower threatening to commit suicide.
Jump came out in 1984 on the VH album called 1984 lol. I got into Van Halen about 10 years ago and have been hooked ever since. Personally, I prefer the early era with Diamond Dave. Their debut self-titled album is pure gold in my opinion. Recently I've gotten into their 3rd album "Women and Children First".

The guitarist Eddie Van Halen, played the guitar solo on Michael Jackson's 'Beat It', but never asked for royalties, because he actually thought the song and Michael kinda sucked and he never wanted his band members to know that he was on the song. True story.
Mostly true. No royalties and he didn’t think the band would find out but there’s no comment from EVH saying the song or MJ sucked. He liked MJ and the feeling was mutual.

At the time some people thought he was a cheater and that these new sounds and techniques were studios/electronic tricks and not guitar" (because we never heard that before ) He was also hired by Michael Jackson to play the amazing Solo and riff of "Beat It".. 💝. He just past away during pandemic because of tong cancer (Rest In Peace Eddie 😥)

GEEZ, it was last yesterday my brother got the album. Where did all that time fly?? This is when Van Halen really hit their stride with a more salable commercial sound - in the best way. You saw the VH logo EVERYWHERE! On notebooks, Demin jackets and walls!
When people say i dont know who van halen is my heart drops! Im a youngster, im only 36 but i grew up woth this music, i guess alot of times it deppends on what music the parents listen to. But to not know about Van halen should be a commited crime. The schools should teach this to the kids. Eddie is top 3 in best guitar players in the world. And his keyboard playing is also nuts!

When this video first time had been shown at MTV it split the hardrock fans into 2 groups! One the more tradtional ones who felt it was like blasphemy that their guitar hero Eddie van Halen played on a synth! Remember back in the '80s the most popular genre, at least in Europe, was electronic music such as Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Kraftwerk and hardrock. Both groups kinda despited eachother. Anyway the second group of hardrock fans had no problem with EvH playing on a synth for them he was still a guitar hero. At this time they had a very charismatic singer/front man in David Lee Roth.

The guy in the yellow striped jacket is Eddie Van Halen, one of the best guitar players who ever lived. He created an entirely unique way of playing. Sadly he passed away a couple of years ago from cancer.
In 78 or79 I was at a punk show at the Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood. When it was over and we were filing out, I heard people saying "Van Halen sucks, you guys are shit" and other " niceties". I thought what was all that about? As I rounded the aisle towards the front door, in a half-circle booth sat David Lee Roth with a smoking hot chick on each side of him. He snapped his fingers on his right hand, put his fingers in a V and held it towards the chick on his right. She put a cigarette between the fingers and and then Roth put his hand towards the chick on his left and she lit it. That was a true rock star moment I'll never forget and I'm still a fan of punk, metal, and even bands like Arch Enemy {who I've also seen}. Wondering? I'm 70 years old.

You just got a First Class Education on one of The Greatest Rock bands from the '80's! Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony made Rock music History!!! David Lee Roth studied Martial Arts during that time! Eddie Van Halen designed his own guitars. You need to check out Panama and Hot for Teacher to name a few. Rock On Van Halen 🤟✊🤙👊💥🔥. I like Dave's fake synth playing during the part that has both guitar and synth, which was impossible for them live, because Eddie played both parts in studio.

Great reaction. See the rabbit hole?Might as well Jump!!! 78-84 they were fronted by David Lee Roth, 85to mostly present was fronted by Sammy Hagar. Dave was into martial arts as seen in his leaps. Amazing showman. Sammy brought more expansion musically. Lead guitarist is Eddie Van Halen and his brother Alex is on drums. Michael Anthony is on Bass. Eddie is regarded as one of the best all time if not THE GOAT. Innovation and what he didn't invent, he perfected. Sadly we lost him just over 2 years ago, RIP. You are completely correct about just scratching the surface. I suggest next you watch Eruption, live without a net 1986 New Haven. It's a 13+ minute guitar solo where Eddie melts your face just shredding it. From there pick just about anything from both eras and see what you like or don't. I happen to love the whole time, no divide for me. Enjoy.

Yes!! You just stumbled onto the greatest Rock band IMO of All Time. Eddie van Halen changed the way guitar players played. Second Only to Hendrix and I personally would argue that but I'm biased 😂. Diamond Dave was arguably the greatest front man in Rock music. Just dig in to there catalog, you can't go wrong. Just remember after 84 you have a new lead singer ( Sammy Hagar ). Still great, just different.

I always took it to mean "Jump out the window", jump to his death. Not so serious. Just an expression. "I ain't the worse that you've seen. Can't you see what I mean?... Ah...I might as well jump."
