SMOOOOOOTH.......TODD ADDING GREAT SUPPORT.........SHAYE AND THE BAND AT THEIR BEST..................
Like to play this song in my own gigs. To hear it from this wonderful band is pure joy for me!!
James,I am glad you and wife are well and wish you all the best.from Argentina at the end of the world greeting
"Thanks a Million" for beeing here for filming this marvelous band once again.
I never listened this tune by the band before.
Great that they add it to their repertoire.
I rember me that Catie Rodgers and her "Gentilly Stompers" played it during Abita Springs Busker Festival a couple of years before.
A great performance too. Catie sang too.
Here Tuba Skinny playing as instrumental.
Todd on sousaphone whole soloing and Shaye to the stop chords are the highlights for me during this performance.
Beautiful. And brilliant Todd with a lovely solo.
It makes me feel so warm at home, among great people and great friends. Thanks a lot!
I don't know who came up with the idea to play this song but I'm really glad they did. It was unexpected from TS and greatly appreciated here. I've listened to it over and over. Thank you!
I was going to say something about one of the musicians, then realized each deserved praise. What a beautiful piece.
Yeah they all shine on this one
I think it's an old Louis Armstrong piece. Satch plays a wonderful solo on it.
These guys fool ya ... they take something difficult and make it sweet and sassy ... thanks James, this one hit the spot ... Mikie
Hope this number will be on their next CD.
Bravo et Merci Tuba Skinny ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love you !!! Greetings Jens from Denmark.
Sweet!
Well done for getting to the future :-) 😄 seriously though, thank you, lovely tune well presented.
More stuff that's good for the soul. Thanks for posting James.
Beautifully done! Gotta love TS!
This is absolutely beautiful
Tasty solos all around.
Another outstanding tune from TS, missed Jason though, hope he will be back someday.
Thanks Jim. I always enjoy and appreciate your videos of Tuba Skinny as well as other bands. Thanks again.
Al
Thanks Al, I hope you and Judy are well. You know how I feel about your Tuba Skinny videos. They are the reason I am here.
Thanks, James. Interesting to hear Barnabus restate the melody in such a straightforward fashion. My first exposure to this great tune was by Catie Rodgers; nice to have quite different contrasting versions.
Bravo, Tuba Skinny une fois = Tuba Skinny TOUJOURS
Bem agasalhadinhos e tocando lindamente!!!!Essa é a minha banda.Obrigada sempre.
Thanks, James. Glad you made it to New Orleans this week. It's great news both you and your wife have recovered from your little contretemps with Covid. We remember Catie Rodgers adding 'Thanks a Million' to her repertoire five years ago; but you seem to have captured the first-ever video of Tuba Skinny playing it. It is a lovely conventional 32-bar tune, played here in the key of A flat. Arthur Johnston composed it for the movie in 1935, with Gus Kahn providing the lyrics. What a performance! Great to hear the gentle harmonic and rhythmic support Barnabus and Shaye give during the second half of Craig's chorus (02:34 - 03:04); and of course Shaye's inspired half-chorus (04:02 - 04:33) backed by the interesting rhythmic pattern; and the so-delicate finish - examples of traditional jazz at its best.
You the man, Pops! Love your work
Does anyone else hear Too Marvelous for Words? Just an observation from the sidelines Mr.Johnston and Mr Kahn are certainly due some recognition for providing the foundation...............
Another brilliant brenda mello observation. Please keep 'em coming. 'Thanks a Million' was composed two years before 'Too Marvelous for Words', and they certainly have a fair amount in common in the sweep of the melody in places, though their chord progressions and overall structures are different.
Thanks for the kind words. This performance is a perfect example of Tuba Skinny's talent and versatility. They have no problem switching gears at any show and pulling off an absolutely beautiful rendition of this more mellow tune.As I have mentioned before I believe they are the best Trad jazz band out there.
Linda música!!!Solos maravilhosos!!!☆☆☆☆☆
Lovely time thank you for putting this one up
Thank you 🙏 for great 👍🎺🪗🎷🎸🎻🪕🥁🪘tuba skinny special thank you 🙏🎼and 🎥 person 👍
"Thanks a Million" to Tuba Skinny and Mr Sterling.
Shaye is such a superb artiste❤️. Craig is just wonderful on clarinet,
I want that hat! 🎩😊
Craig's or Shaye's????
@@brendamello2202 Both! 😁
Thank you.
"Thanks a Million" Jim. I could listen to Shaye play all day, beautiful tone, excellent skill...I was a trumpet player/ music teacher. You can do a great box step to this.
And she only took up the cornet after she moved to New Orleans. She trained as a classical pianist at a conservatory in New York City.
@@JamesSterling Yes I had read that...more talent than me in her little pinky that in my entire being.. I was also a piano player, but not a pianist, lol, after 7 years old lessons. play okay by ear, and play some guitar and sing. Gave up teaching public school band instruments lol. I was a pretty good trumpet player in a big band...had no interest in continuing when it finally broke up when owner died...wouldn't get any solos in community band....boring. I still sing and play on guitar with self produced back up music to senior homes...gave up the bar duet/band crap...same playlist over and over, and requests from drunks....no thanks lol. TS is so unique they were bound to be successful. Ms. Cohn is obviously highly intelligent and motivated, as are the other members, past and present.
@@thomastimlin1724 Well your musical talents certainly exceed mine. I can (or at least used to} play a few bars of "Suwanee River" on the harmonica and that's it! But I do know good music when I hear it, and that is Tuba Skinny. The first time I head them on RUclips I binged watched for 5 hours and immediately booked a trip to New Orleans to see them. That was 7 years ago and I haven't been the same since. Tuba Skinny changed my life.
Thank for making the trip to record this.
Thought I had heard it before and I had. It was many, many moons ago. Took a while but found the album.
TS did it justice though.
Just a smooth little lick that will stay with you.
Take care.
Did you find the Louis Armstrong recording of it? It has been recorded by many since the 1935 movie but Tuba Skinny based their version on the Armstrong recording I believe.
@@JamesSterling Yep, that was the one.
Thought I had it, then I knew I had it, then after about 10 minutes I found it.
Got everything in categories, just had to remember which one.
Glad I got all of Dads old stuff.
@@JamesSterling Al Cohn was on Jimmy Rushing's record of this song in 1971.
@@axeleast8632 Wow! That's just too cool!
@@axeleast8632 I just found it on RUclips. Al's solo on that was tasty.
Is this a new one in their library? I don't think I've heard it before. Thanks for sharing my friend!
Yes, it is!
@@JamesSterling Thank you sir!
Sweeeeeet...
👏👏👏👏💙🇮🇹
I love you Shaye. I’d love to know what brand that coronet you’re playing .I’m a come back player myself and I admire your talent
James, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that number was recorded in October, 2021 not 2022.
Edited to add:
Or February, 2022 not October.
Or something else entirely.
Duh! What a goof! That's what happens when editing a video after a tiring overnight trip to New Orleans. Unfortunately I cant edit it out of the video now. Thanks for pointing it out.
@@JamesSterling I've just downloaded an app that will allow me to do the same thing with my videos. 🙄
In eight months or so it won’t matter : ) beautiful capture of a great band at their best
Прекрасная запись, James. Однако, в титрах стоит дата Oct. 10, 2022. (?)
That's the result of a late night edit after driving back from New Orleans (tired and a foggy brain). I corrected the date in the RUclips description but cannot correct the video once posted.
Этот курьёз делает ролик особо ценным. Как у филателистов или нумизматов ;))) А так же показывет, сколько сил Вы, James, отдаёте, чтобы ещё раз порадовать фанатов TS!
Can anyone tell what cornet Shaye use here?
yeah i wanna know it too. It is not the Olds Ambassador what she use bevor...
maybe a Bach Strad....it looks like but i dont know for sure...
Its definitely a British style one judging by the shepherds crook in the bell.
always very good like very much dont have any extra money this month will try next month
