    Cocky is thinking " someone's let this guy out of his cage "

  • @Swooped117
    @Swooped117 10 лет назад +143

    It keeps nibbling on him cause of the sounds he keeps making. If he didnt go "ahhhh" it wouldn't nibble on him. The Cockatoo is thinking to himself " hmm if i bite this guy he makes sounds for me".

    • @samsungemployee5243
      @samsungemployee5243 4 года назад +1

      That is not true by making that sound the bird knows he is hurting him dont you notice how he gets bitten less and less throughout the video?

  • @wb-lr9ig
    @wb-lr9ig 9 лет назад +191

    He bites because he thinks it's a game. He wants you to make noises so he bites because he gets a response. Next time be silent when he bites and talkative when he's well behaved. That's how they learn. I know it's hard to do. You are brave. They have strong beaks.

  • @amplifierexperts1983
    @amplifierexperts1983 10 лет назад +101

    That's not an attack. That cockie must be lonely and looking for a friend. If he wanted to bite for real, you would have lost a finger by now. He's just playing.
    It still amazes me how wild cockies are so outgoing and friendly to people.
    There is nothing like the feeling of a parrot holding your finger with his foot though. I do that with my African Grey every chance I get. Feel the love!

    • @Idkprobablyyeet
      @Idkprobablyyeet 10 лет назад +9

      Sulfur crested cockatoo's are like that naturally. In captivity they actually hate to be away from their owners. They love attention and that is mainly why they are friendly to humans. Mine flies to a perch by the door about the time I come home (From school that is). He is always waiting there when I walk through the door.

    • @amplifierexperts1983
      @amplifierexperts1983 10 лет назад +3

      They certainly seem unusually friendly to humans. Especially in Australia and New Zealand, where their populations are large in the wild. Many national parks have them landing on visitors. It's quite a site to see in many youtube videos.
      I myself have an African Grey and she ALWAYS wants to be by my side. The problem is she doesn't give me ANY space. It's a smothering kind of relationship and I find that I must give her time out in her cage for part of the day so I can get productive work done.

    This is where these cockatoos belong,not in little indoor cages where they can barely stretch a wing,never mind flying..
    This Sulphur look a lot healthier than any I ever saw in the U.S. and you're a very lucky guy to have this beauty visit your balcony to play. I hope at least some people feed them somewhat healthy,but I'm sure they get a lot of junk food on their daily rounds of favorite balconies.. Very,very cool:)

    Looks like one of Sydney's inner northern suburbs.
    The bird life in Australia is pretty amazing. Several bird species are easy 'train' with food, but you can make a burden for yourself - they get to expect it everyday. I have a butcher bird that flies into my window every morning. Thump & a big call, then thump & thump, as it deliberately flies into the glass to wake me. Then there's the magpies who are really smart brave & friendly who also although wild, will sit on & eat out of your hand.

  • @Mikeanglo
    @Mikeanglo 10 лет назад +5

    Interesting how friendly these wild cockatoos are. I guess they're used to getting treats from humans, and most people don't go out of their way to injure or capture them.
    But, having parrots myself I know that even the "friendly" nips from larger beaks can hurt.

    My avian specialist says that cockatoos have the most dangerous bite of ALL birds in the animal kingdom, because they have a 3 point bite. The bottom mandible has 2 distinctive points and the top mandible has one VERY large point. This makes for an exceptionally proficient bite. I experienced one of these bites during the first season after my cockatoo became sexually mature. My crime? I had given attention to my macaw/her nemesis. She crushed the entire joint of my right index finger. She stayed attached to my finger as I flailed about trying to shake her off of it while screaming in pain. There was blood EVERYWHERE!!! It was on the ceiling, walls, floors, furniture, etc... If someone was to spray luminol in that place now, they would think that it was a crime scene, because it would light up like a Christmas tree! lol!! NEVER in my 35+ years of working with and raising birds did I ever think that something this bad could happen to me. Her first few seasons were pretty rough, but she has since settled down a little.....and I do mean "little." She cannot stand for me to be out of her sight during breeding season, as she believes that I am her mate. She is pretty spoiled, but I created the little monster. lol!! She no longer launches vicious attacks against me and if she accidentally bites me while playing and I scream in pain, she immediately puts her head down and leans it against me submissively, as if to say that she is sorry.

      Wow that’s a story! It just says how smart and also how crazy they can be. Those vice grip bites are a lot more than a nip. It sounds like you copped one of the worst you can get. Also a good reminder to be more careful because some of these little buggers that visit can be totally unpredictable. I don’t give them anything but they still come and visit. Sounds like you have a real little pet now! Thanks for the message.

      @@ihaig72 She is definitely a little pill, but I cannot imagine my life without her. I often wonder, who saved whom? I had taken her in as a rescue with the intention of rehoming her. Until.....my Amazon passed away due to old age. His particular species has a lifespan of about 35 years. That is how old he was when I got him. I had him for over 20 years and the vet said that she had NEVER seen this species live such a long life. I was his 4th owner and his previous owner also had him for 20 years. He was my BFF and the love of my life. When he passed away on Christmas day night, I was beside myself with grief. I swore that I would NEVER EVER let myself get that close to a bird again, but Angel has other plans in mind for me. She literally forced her affections on me. Still to this day, she cannot stand to see or hear me crying. She knows if I am crying, even if I am in another room and not making a sound. She will come to me and lay her head against me and start saying, awe...awe. This is what I say to her when I am comforting her. How can you be sad with someone so sweet that loves you that much? Who really saved whom? 💜💖💜

    Don't scream or make a noise when your bit, That encourages them to bite more for Attention !!! D: But it's still very cute x'D in a painful way.

    This cocky's got a new girlfriend. You sing to him and you even have a yellow crest (but you need more hair gel).

    How is it that your flesh didn't get punctured at all? I got bitten by a cockatoo once that wasn't even trying to hurt me, it was just inspecting me, and I was bleeding from it.
