It keeps nibbling on him cause of the sounds he keeps making. If he didnt go "ahhhh" it wouldn't nibble on him. The Cockatoo is thinking to himself " hmm if i bite this guy he makes sounds for me".
He bites because he thinks it's a game. He wants you to make noises so he bites because he gets a response. Next time be silent when he bites and talkative when he's well behaved. That's how they learn. I know it's hard to do. You are brave. They have strong beaks.
That’s just adorable. Your bird friend sure was amused by you and it’s nice you two did a bit of bonding. Perhaps he’ll come back and visit again. And if he does, I hope you’ll have your camera ready! ☺️
That's not an attack. That cockie must be lonely and looking for a friend. If he wanted to bite for real, you would have lost a finger by now. He's just playing. It still amazes me how wild cockies are so outgoing and friendly to people. There is nothing like the feeling of a parrot holding your finger with his foot though. I do that with my African Grey every chance I get. Feel the love!
Sulfur crested cockatoo's are like that naturally. In captivity they actually hate to be away from their owners. They love attention and that is mainly why they are friendly to humans. Mine flies to a perch by the door about the time I come home (From school that is). He is always waiting there when I walk through the door.
They certainly seem unusually friendly to humans. Especially in Australia and New Zealand, where their populations are large in the wild. Many national parks have them landing on visitors. It's quite a site to see in many youtube videos. I myself have an African Grey and she ALWAYS wants to be by my side. The problem is she doesn't give me ANY space. It's a smothering kind of relationship and I find that I must give her time out in her cage for part of the day so I can get productive work done.
This is where these cockatoos belong, not in little indoor cages where they can barely stretch a wing, never mind flying.. This Sulphur look a lot healthier than any I ever saw in the U.S. and you're a very lucky guy to have this beauty visit your balcony to play. I hope at least some people feed them somewhat healthy, but I'm sure they get a lot of junk food on their daily rounds of favorite balconies.. Very, very cool:)
LadyDynamitez It was years ago at Discovery Island at DisneyWorld. Birds love me for some reason. I had a macaw just waddle over and "Ask" me to pick him up. I did and he sat on my shoulder and he wouldn't go back to the handler!
'stronger than vice grips' is correct. and this cocky is of the smaller variety. with moluccans or lager white cockatoos, their grip is 4-X stronger. but i love the entire ... hmmm ... 'genus'. so much.
The best way to enjoy a cage free bird, without clipped wings and making them neurotic from caging. How lovely to see this interaction! Thanks a lot for sharing, mate!
Looks like one of Sydney's inner northern suburbs. The bird life in Australia is pretty amazing. Several bird species are easy 'train' with food, but you can make a burden for yourself - they get to expect it everyday. I have a butcher bird that flies into my window every morning. Thump & a big call, then thump & thump, as it deliberately flies into the glass to wake me. Then there's the magpies who are really smart brave & friendly who also although wild, will sit on & eat out of your hand.
Interesting how friendly these wild cockatoos are. I guess they're used to getting treats from humans, and most people don't go out of their way to injure or capture them. But, having parrots myself I know that even the "friendly" nips from larger beaks can hurt.
That was amazing mate you aussys definitely have balls . I have two umbrella cockatoos and the only ones we see out here are in cages so sad .I wish they could fly free . but truly the darlings will do anything to provoke a response. Mine love to bite me in the rear every time I turn around. This is Sherry Bailey. Good video
If the cockatoo was really attempting to hurt you, it would’ve hit your finger off. Every time it bit you, you made funny noises, making it think it was a fun game.
Pretty cool....would love to have a Cockatoo come to my house and play...although it is a bit disturbing how the man sounds more like the bird than the actual bird does...lol
Great Video...I have a pet Galah and am scared to handle him as he attacked me years ago when he lost his mate...you have given me confidence...trying to emulate the caaaww . It will be better now the 2 doggies have gone to doggie heaven and Joey will be totally spoilt and will have the run of the place .. : ) They are fantastic Birds..Australian Parrots. Thank You.
Great video... "break the skill a little?" yea, he could have flown away with your finger if he would have wanted. That is hard to believe that guy is wild. Awesome!
on one hand... there are a lot of spiders in Australia which scare the shit out of me... but on the other hand there are wild parrots that don't mind playing with you :3
I have only ever been swooped by a magpie once and that was years ago but I have seen many people on bikes with things on their helmets to deter magpies. Its the plovers I hate since they never shut uo when you're near their eggs and of course they swoop, nasty things.
Wild cockatoos, our Sulphurs, will respond in a friendly manner if habituated to people but still remain completely wild. Sulphurs are the equivalent to a temperamental 4 year old child but still adorable. Wild or tame.

Reid McAllister 😂😂😂😂
lol
@MadeAUsername maybe in the past a cockatoo bit him, now he have his powers haha
Thanks for that comment!
Haig Gilly 10 years later and you still reply to comments, you legend.

Behavior analysis is beautiful, isn't it? :)
that's the spoil sport comment I need to mute ya so I don't c ya again
It is a wild bird guys, do you need to speel this shit now?
if it wanted to it would just legit injure him but it disnt cause it is a play fight no blood
He I was just playing if he really wanted to hurt him he could bite his finger off the have very strong beaks
If he really meant to hurt him he would have drawn blood or broken it. He was just playing.
Yeah. Also the head didn't flare up. Cockatoos are very powerful and you need to watch for the signs of distress
Yeah true
He was literally trying to play the human like an instrument.
This wild bird acts more tame than my pet birds o:
All birds are different

And to think we almost destroyed they're habitat, thank god they're now a protected species. 👍

Those birds are very smart but their beaks have enough muscle to snap your thumb bone in half.
TheCoolProfessor Worth it.
LadyDynamitez I held a black palm cockatoo once. He was so beautiful!
TheCoolProfessor Woah, I am so jealous! Where'd you get to hold it?! Lucky!
LadyDynamitez It was years ago at Discovery Island at DisneyWorld. Birds love me for some reason. I had a macaw just waddle over and "Ask" me to pick him up. I did and he sat on my shoulder and he wouldn't go back to the handler!
TheCoolProfessor Hahaha, how cute! That must have been incredible experience.
Australia will forever be awesome ✌️
We also get beautiful black cockatoos In Australia
:(

This is beautiful. This parrot is free in the wild but still has an owner who loves the parrot.
it's a COCKATOO.
X a Cockatoo is a parrot dummy.
The parrot does not have an owner but a friend
If he really wanted to hurt you - you would be minus a finger by now. Playful and curious they are amazing birds thanks for sharing.

I could not decide who was more handsome - Cocky or Aussie! A land of good-looking men and birds!
Too funny! You know this bird well. How fun to play with a wild bird. You do sound more like a cocky than the bird.
I want to hang out with both of these guys! The bird and the human! Awesome!
These Cockies are found in Australia. Sometimes so many Cockatoos are a pest but they are a really smart and funny bird and make good pets
Interesting how friendly these wild cockatoos are. I guess they're used to getting treats from humans, and most people don't go out of their way to injure or capture them.

Haha mate your cockatoo noises are spot-on! Fantastic video
That's unbelievably tame for a wild one! Awesome
YOu should be honored to be beaked like that. I think it really likes you
I commented this very thing. I myself would be honoured lol
I am a mature human being.
“Hello, cocky!”
*sweats nervously*
oh my, that is so adorable!
You live in a beautiful place!
Give it some food, man!
Never change, Australia.
Flea, is that you?
Actually no, the bird is doing it because he likes the sound. He's not hurting him at all.
Brittany Owens a mild bite but sometimes a little strong.
He might be wild & free now but that was once a pet bird.. I would bite the guy for making those stupid noises if I was the cockatoo . LOL
hahaha he's cute. amazing how they'll interact being wild.

Haig gilly: omg it's working. Now he's more calm and more friendly.
Cocky: bites with unstoppable appetite lol
You've been around them enough to know they can a lot more damage than that if they really want to.

Very beautiful video !

I wish we had them flying wild in the uk, i love my cockatoo she is my baby :-)

it must be amazing to live in an area where your wild birds are cockatoos!!!
I think that cockatoo is someone’s escaped cockatoo because wild birds never act like that but it don’t know much
how do you squawk like that?
How not even my pet cockatoo is that friendly
That bird is only playing if it was serious that guys hand would be bleeding like a tap
I love how he looks up every time you scream like, "PROBLEM? BD"
0:03 - Roy Batty from Blade Runner?? hahaha :P
YOU TOUGHT THAT WILD COCKATOO TO STEP UP In 10 seconds
it probably had already been messed with so it couldve previously known how
Your living a dream my friend!
Never pull your hand away it will hold on tighter than you could ever imagine possible.
Awesome video, I love the bird life we have in Australia. 😉❤👍
Yes!!! Thank you for posting this!
so cute. where do cockatoos usually fly around? i dont think i ever in my life saw a cockatoo.

True! Thanks for the sane words about birds, I agree!

SQUAK You're lucky I didn't take your hand off SQUAK
You can tell the cockatoo really likes him when he started preening his hair
OMG 😀😆 so beautiful
2:39 nice view , where is this?
Is that why there were bloody gashes and holes in the guy's hand???
He thought you were just making cockatoo sounds
We have cockatoos fly on to our porch everyday! So tempted to pet them it’s been a year now but am still nervous on how to approach. Any help?
I have a question. How do you still have your hand in one piece?
How long did it take you for him to trust you
I think he's/she's been someone's pet and escaped. The bird likes to be handled. Wild ones wouldn't act like that.
if wild birds get fed enough they do behave like that

Haig Gilly Is there any way you could catch a wild one and keep it?
+Anthony Beaumont yes, as you can see you could probably just let it into your house but why would you want to... they belong in the wild
people actually do that, but don't it's a horrible thing you shouldn't take an animal from the wild.
It seems to me that these amazing ancient creatures "belong" anywhere they decide to go. But of course they should never be kept against their will.
I like the sound.... :)
Just give it some fruit or toast or something , that's all it's after is a treat.
yvonneost12 That's what i was thinking.
arent you suppose to make sounds when birds bite you because its just like a dog biting a squeky ball, the dog will keep doing it to hear the sound
