    I love seeing the bond that bird owners have with their feathered companions. I briefly had a Pionus in my life (she left with my ex), and it was definitely a special kind of bond.

    this is the way to keep a bird :) so beautiful to see good people that take care of their animal companion so well. so glad to see there are people that don`t clip the wings

      You learn about birds there meant to fly, there some of the only animals on the planet that can fly and you would take that ability away from them?

      Ethan Because a home is not a rainforest and especially big birds might kill or injure themselves.

      I don't think they were putting down clipping wings. Sounded more like they figured most people were clipping and were just glad to see it's not everyone. There are many things to factor whether or not. The personality of the bird, do they even try to fly much, are they able to safely do so where they live etc.. Also some may feel anxious without their instinctive form of escape. Even if they don't need it when they realize they can only glide, some may start plucking for example. It's really more individual than a cut and dry issue.

      It is so much time. When I had a baby you change diaper, give them a bottle and put them to bed. A baby bird has to eat every 2 hours. Then if the died early it kills you😞

      Had mine since 2019 18th of May, it's really rough to just take care of one when your family gets bothered by the sound they make and sadly I only get to see mine on a weekend these days far away from home with Indian maids taking care of it. Bought a bigger cage and plenty of toys yesterday so that the macaw won't get depressed.

      Hello Brad, as I understand it, Buckle is fine. She doesn't do as much flying as before but she does do some for a few weeks in the summer. In 2013 a judge gave all my birds to my ex, so I don't know first hand about Buckle. I have moved on, of course, and am training a new crew of birds.

    I love the name you gave him. That’s as unique as I’ve ever heard and a great name.
    My brother used to raise cockatoo’s, cockatiels, and Rosella’s. But he suddenly died unexpectedly in his sleep, leaving the remainder of the family with this huge responsibility. Luckily we found a wonderful bird vet that helped us relocate the birds to rescue facility.

    @finalsundragon The head bobbing is part of their natural feeding response. It can be quite vigorous, thus the finger in the beak to help keep the formula and the beak in the same area at the same time.

    Thanks for the comments. I believe most species of parrots can be trained to fly outdoors. Some will be better students than others, some will be inherently more safe than others. With the smaller birds, it seems they have more predators to worry about than do the larger macaws. The smaller birds also use larger numbers to help keep them safe. Most people do not fly a flock of conures so great care needs to be taken in selecting when and where you chose to fly a conure. Chris

      Well any time you have an unleashed animal outside there are risks. But this was pretty safe, they mitigated risks by being in a large open area, and a parrot that is bonded to people like this is less likely to fly away than a dog is to run away.

    • @panasonic7023

      Deborah L Conroy you can train your bird to fly. Look up flight training groups near where you live. You start out with a steel cable tied to the foot of the bird and a long sharp whistle. Try it. It's fun both for the bird and you.

    Is the risk of the bird flying away reduced because they were hand raised? I read some comments that stated that the birds dont fly off because they are welll cared for and loved, but I bet if you were to get an adult bird from a rescue or pet store, no matter how much love you have it, it probably would fly away if brought outside.

      +Line katrine Naley I take my cockatoo outside all the time, but only on harness, never loose. there's about four different raptor species living in my area. literally I can see nests from my front yard. people need to be aware of predators in their vicinity before trying to free fly their birds.

      I had customer at my last job that had 3 macaws. 1 would always fly off, but would return in a day or 2.. The customer had a big outdoor cage and she would open the door every morning. They would come out, fly around and go back in, but like I said, one would go exploring for days at a time.

      Parrots are not just about food that's why cats come back not birds

    • @flychomperfly
      @flychomperfly 8 лет назад +1

      the main reasons parrots don't come back is... they fly off without knowing how to fly...or they get lost...or they land on another human being who takes them and is mean enough to not return them. in fact, it often is about food. if the bird is found in a tree, the most popular way to get the bird back is to eat their fave food in front of them, or to bring a picnic table and have the family sit and eat in front of the bird...many lost birds recovered that way. lol

      Melissa0774 i sad not really it could of been really hungry they do that when they there hungry but they mostly go for small bird or animals and that macaw is pretty big so it might think is a hawk

    • @scottrichter341
      @scottrichter341 7 лет назад +4

      Not entirely true. Your coopers hawks and sharp shinned hawks would probably be going after your small, conure size, maybe even up to your gray and amazon sized birds.
      But a goshawk, prairie, peregrine and gyr falcons take pheasant, duck and sometimes even geese. I've seen videos of red tailed hawks even grabbing wild turkeys.
      Falconers sometimes lose their small kestrel falcons to wild sharpy and coopers attacks. Be careful flying small birds.
      Source: am a falconer

    • @scottrichter341
      @scottrichter341 7 лет назад +3

      Also, hawks and falcons will attack each other, eagles and owls. So a large bird isn't going to make them think it's another raptor and leave it alone.

    I agree. I think it is way cool how they grow up from such tiny blobs of silly putty looking things to these beautiful flying machines that you can take for a hike up a canyon or to the top of a cliff. And after you toss them into the air from the edge of the cliff they soar on the wind so gracefully and return to land on your arm for a quick cuddle. Doing this with a kitten is just not the same... The bird isn't biting down. Her finger is just a spacer to keep the beak from shutting while feeding.

    I have an Alexandrine Parakeet, and I remember seeing two baby Hyacinths at the breeder we got her from. They just sat on their butts making honking sounds; it was incredibly cute. And there's no denying that Macaws look stunning in flight. You and your partner [wife? girlfriend? fiance?] have a beautiful set of friends!

    Sorry to hear of your loss. We fed Buckle Zupreem or Katee hand feeding formula. We then also fed soaked pellets. Some are intended to be weaning pellets, as seen in the video. But we also use regular Zupreem pellets soaked in water. For their adult diet we feed mainly Foundation Formula Pellets.

    What nice things to say. We are having a lot of fun with each new bird we raise and train and we continue to learn more each time also. Learning to use the camera technology available today has also be fun. I am so glad you enjoy our efforts also. Chris

    It's so funny watching the different "feed me" dances that different species of birds will do. :P

    The pinky is all about holding the hand and syringe so the food goes into the beak. At this age you do not need to worry about them biting too hard. And they will learn about proper beak pressure once they leave the nest. Nature has a pretty good system designed for us to take advantage of. Chris

    It was great having you and Kelly join us. We really enjoyed flying the birds with you. It was fun to see your reactions to them and the landscape. Your interest in learning to do some training with your bird was a delightful bonus. Chris

    Buckle is awesome! My Shamrock would love to do this and maybe some day she will. Shammy had a very different life from Buckle and lived for 8 years in a bird store. Her personality has changed and she is now more like Buckle. I'm really impressed at the trust that both Buckle and you have in each other.

    Nice video and it's hard work from baby to older. Not as easy as I can see. Compliments for taking good care and even let them fly outside. That's why it is important to make a huge band with birds, so that they not flying away. Amazing

    Great to see you flying this wonderful creature.
    I used to fly my B&G however, where we lived there were a pair of Falcons and they came close to breaking my buddy "Jasper's" neck. A tree saved him and I caught him as he crashed down. End of the free flying, although he has had some unplanned adventures in the wild since then. The last time he was caught in the ocean winds and got carried far, Jasper needed all day to get close to home, where we found him, calling out!

    What a beautiful colour mix -- it's like a Blue and Gold mated with a Scarlet macaw.
