I love watching Mikey’s progress, I fell in love with a blue & gold macaw called Casper age 3 and a half when we bought him from someone at our local pet shop in 2016. Such a beautiful bird in a cage all day was so sad and whilst it caused a few creeping sessions with my partner to let me get him, it was all worth it. The first 6 months were filled with temper tantrums from Casper and my arms looked like battle zones with bite bruises but it was all worth it! I was almost at my wits end, it was 4am and I was trying to get Casper in his cage for the night and he point blank refused, I slumped in my chair and started to cry not noticing that Casper had come to sit next to me until I heard the words”I Love You” I know we have a hard job ahead but we are macaw & human forever!
Thanks so much. Well that’s why we made this video, to show people it is achievable, it wasn’t easy, and it’s definitely not fun waiting under trees for hours but it’s so worth it and so rewarding.

Jana Shabes Awww what a lovely comment. Thank you very much. We really enjoy giving Mikey the best life we can, sometimes it’s not easy but it really is so so rewarding.
Mickey is a Free Flighter, sounds like some cool warrior class... The video really showed how everything can be overcome even if it isn't the ideal situation, Mickey and his owner trained to fly when they have less than optimal conditions and they made it. It's the same with so many of us, we are all from less than optimal backgrounds yet we made it to where we were. Birds are truly such a unique gift, it's really the impossible made possible. Since we have so little information of them and their ability to fly with companions, we deem it impossible but there are so many of these free flighters out there in the world, and no one may know about them, but they are putting their all with their birds and reaching up to the skies. If you give your all, the impossible will be made possible. With much love...
nothing melts my heart than a free animal, doing what they are supposed to do. Fly high Mikey! you have great people taking great care of you.. Love from Philippines
What a hilarious narration . Well done Mikey i' m proud of you & the humans around u 😆😆😆😅😅😅😂😂 .Congrats to u guys it' s amazing as always. I almost cried of joy after watching this video . Keep it up , ❤❤ u all . Nimal & beautiful Claire u r just amazing guys 👍👍👍👌👌
Oh god them flying over those fields made me so nervous. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a snake jump up and snatch a bird flying over a feild, I'm from the US in the south though so I don't know if this is as a big of a problem in other places.
@@MikeyTheMacaw I believe there is one snake species in England, but is very shy and small (hence why lots of people don't know they are even there) compared to other snakes so it won't be a problem.
I love this so much. I work in an outdoor place right next to a HUGE zoo that holds free-flight shows with their macaws in summer. They fly so far away from the zoo that we can see them fly all over our property all the time, and it's a beautiful sight!
We have a quaker parrot and your videos truly inspire us as parents. I just sat here cheering Mikey on like I was there. Your videos are truly a teaching tool. We are so happy for Mikey and we hope Mia is doing well too. Congratulations to you all for being blessed with 2 gorgeous Macaws that love you with their entire being. We have learned so much as birdie parents from your videos and appreciate you sharing your experience. ❤️
Renee Pitts Awww thanks so much. We do love them both dearly and love giving them the best life we can. It makes us so happy that you enjoy the videos and also have learnt stuff from us, give your Quaker a little cuddle from us. Thanks again.
Wow. You guys are so dedicated to his proper care. I don't normally approve of birds as pets, but he is clearly a very happy guy who has a fulfilled life.
I have tears of joy running down my face for Mikey! He is absolutely beautiful and is so lucky to have a mom and dad who love him so much! He is incredible!
What an amazing achievement ..you both have gave your birds ... I was brought up with parrots all my childhood now in my 50s maybe one day I will return to my love of parrots once again ... thankyou for sharing your passion for your birds ...
I cried so hard when I saw his happy Mikey was on his first flight. It was really sweet to watch. I am so happy for you guys you are really awesome bird parents and Mikey is the cutest thing I ever saw. Mikey and Jinxy are my two favorite macaws.
I love your commentary and your love for Mikey. I wanted one but as a full time nursing student and working part time I would not be able to care for one like you do. I will enjoy from afar by watching your channel! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
wonderful to see these beautiful birds flying around free cuz a bird MUST fly even in captivity. mikey is lucky to have such a good dad and mom. take good care of him!
Tenjio79 Awww thanks. He did so well with this training. It took a while for him to get it but all that work has finally paid off and now he flys happy every day.
Hi dear! This video was absolutely beautiful. Well done Mikey, and well done to you both for training and production! It’s videos like these that help people see what majestic creatures parrots really are; not just a pretty bird to sit in your living room as decor or bragging rights. Taking on a parrot (especially a Macaw!) is like committing to a child for the rest of your life, and it seriously warms my heart to see how hard you two have worked to give him the best and happiest life he could ever dream of. Seriously, hats off to you both!! One tiny thing I saw though, and I’m sure you know so please know I’m not trying to speak down to you-this I guess is mostly for people watching who don’t know much about bird law. Stroking or rubbing or petting a bird anywhere but his head and neck is an intimate act in bird language: only their mates touch them there (back, under wings, etc). It’s so hard to resist petting a bird from head to tail (especially with all their soft feathers!) but continually stroking or touching a bird anywhere other than his neck and head will lead to hormonal behavior...which not only sexually frustrates your bird emotionally but can then cause them to lash out and bite, become more territorial of the person who is petting them the most (who they now view as their partner), and be more difficult to handle in general. It’s a bad position for you to be in and it’s a bad position for your bird to be in. Obviously the last thing anyone would want to do is hurt their bird and cause them to feel frustrated in a way that can’t really be fixed! Like I said, I’m sure you guys are already fully aware of bird hormones and all the (sometimes weird, like blowing air in their face) sexual triggers that can cause a bird to become stimulated. I just saw in the video a couple times where Mikey was stroked head to tail in celebration and I wanted to point out to anyone watching that while I totally get the almost instinct to reach out and pet him as we are conditioned to do with dogs and cats, it’s a totally different meaning for the birbs! Keep on keepin on, I look forward to more videos!!
This video is absouletly beautiful. After watching this video, there's tear of happenies in my eyes. So good to know that there's such warm-hearted person like you exists. Have a happy days with Mikey 🐦💕
I love what you’ve accomplished with Mikey and the great bond you have. There’s nothing like it when a Macaw bonds with their human. I cherish my Blue and Gold Macaw. Please be careful when birds of prey are near.
It's so nice to see birds like Mikey flying, I dislike it when people modify animals for their convenience. To see you put the effort into getting him flying, not grounding such a beautiful bird, is heartwarming.
thank you, yes we know what you mean, clipping really shouldn’t even be legal, of course something like this takes a stupid amount of time and effort but the rewards you feel from seeing it happen is priceless.
That is so awesome to watch! When I was in Bolivia, I saw whole flocks of Macaws come in to roost for the night (and scream us to sleep....) and they were so beautiful. It's wonderful that you decided to stay so dedicated.
I love all of your videos so much. My husband and I used to have a really negative view of bird owners. We imagined unhappy birds in cramped cages with clipped wings. I love birds and hope to have one someday and seeing your videos has helped both of us see that birds can be INCREDIBLY happy with their homes in captivity and has inspired me to the type of bird parent I want to be! Thanks for sharing your journey!
This is beautiful to hearts, I can understand how happy you must be when he flew freely and that warms my heart, I have two wonderful cockatiels which I had for two years, one’s trained and the other was abused from other people which made him afraid of humans, but I am working on it!, but seeing Mikey here gave me some ideas on training my cockatiels so I give you my thanks.
Late to the comments here but I had to let you know how beautiful it was to see him fly. I could see a legit parrot smile on his face when he returned after his flights❣😍 from what I understand 4 1/2 months is a pretty darn good time frame, especially considering you had a few setbacks. Well done and way to be the best parrot friend/family you can!👏👏👏👏💯
The video brought a tear to my eye while the kids were running with your bird. That's awesome to see some good things happening in the world. Keep it up my friend!!
Awesome video! I'm really glad you made the longer version. Mikey looks so happy, and I hope you guys have decades to have fun together. Congratulations!
This is amazing! ☺ You are amazing for making this possible for him and taking such good care of this gorgeous little creature. They are so beautiful when they are flying... I get teary-eyed every time I see them... So touching. So beautiful. Thanks for sharing this journey! Go Mikey! ☺
Your narration is top notch! haha. I have an 8 y/o female B&G that I rescued and it's obvious she was caged and never allowed to fly. I hope to change that very soon! We're working on target training and changing her diet now. Mikey is her inspiration!!
This video was beautifully made and done with such heartfelt enthusiasm. I love it. Thank you so much for sharing Mikey’s journey with us. I couldn’t help but feel so much pride for him and I kept saying out loud, “oh how cute! Look at him! He’s such a sweet boy.” And no one is in the room with me lol!
Hello Friends! I have had a african grey parrot in the family for most of my life, almost 40 years. It's quite a queasy feeling when such a medium-sized bird heads towards you with momentum for a landing approach. With a macaw, it's certainly even more intense. It's not for the faint-hearted, but the feeling when such an animal trusts you and vice versa is overwhelming. Thanks for showing us this videos! Greetings from Germany.
Loved this video and encouraged me to work on my 10 months old IRN. Now I know how to train my lovely bird to flight. Thank you so much for the detailed video. Mikey ❤❤❤
You are so amazing! People need to be educated on how much these sweet babies need and require. I have 6 and love everyone of them!! A ton of work but so rewarding 🥰
I love watching your videos! The only thing I don’t like about them is................. I can’t stop watching them🥰. Absolutely precious! Mommy and Daddy human are just as adorable 💗
Good job Mikey. I'm glad u did it and so happy for u and I'm glad that u did. Now u are hope for other macaws that had trouble getting into free flight. U did it and u earned every so gle moment.
Wonderful tale! So well narrated! Mickey has got himself some awesome humans there ( as you say!!) Freedom (hence free-flying) is what life is all about !
Such a gorgeous, heart warming video! I teared up a little! I love birds so much and seeing how happy they are when they can free fly is priceless. So proud of Mikey! ❤
its good how a sense of community can be created with the free flighted birds and the owners that makes both the birds and humans less alone in what they do
This is amazing! He is sooooo happy ❤❤❤ love this! You guys did an amazing job and now other parrot trainers will see your videos and think oh darn they are experts just like u did in the beginning! 😂❤
Go Mighty Mikey! What an amazing personality. Love that he enjoys kids so much ... they have the energy to run and run! Very well done filming and narration. Keep on videoing and I'll keep on watching and sharing!
Thank you for this amazing video. Watching this gave me a lot of joy. The dedication you show, teaching him to fly is awesome. Thank you for that. Until now I had no idea there are parrot free flight groups, that's how it should always be, clipping appears even more cruel after watching this. Keep on taking such great care, so others like I with less time and patience can still enjoy being a part of this without having a unhappy parrot at home.
Awww thanks so much, really appreciate your comment, free flight is so important for birds and we are so happy we discovered it and there are so many people that want to achieve it, not enough but in time hopefully clipping comes to a complete end
The look of pride in his eyes when he lands❤️

I noticed that too Sherwyn! He is amazing!!
I’m jealous of those kids at that park! What a great community. That’s so absolutely wonderful what you’ve done for Mikey. Top notch pet care!!

Aww such a lovely comment. It wasn’t easy but it’s the best thing we have done.
This just made my heart swell with love and pride!! Well Done on all the training! To see a bird that happy is something else. Just a joy to watch!
He did so well right. Still soaring the skies daily.
I'M CRYINB this is too beautiful
As always mad jealous or everyone in the video haha :)
Also that last comment made me feel SUPER GUILTY HA
mmelanoma Haha what comment, and thank you, maybe one day you can be in a Mikey video.
Im not crying somethings in both my eyes!
That's one happy bird! Thank you for making him feel that way
Roman Soldier We do our best to give him the best life we can.
nothing melts my heart than a free animal, doing what they are supposed to do. Fly high Mikey! you have great people taking great care of you.. Love from Philippines
Awww thanks. We are so proud on how well he did.
I can’t get over how much this man loves his bird. It’s so pure
Happygirl1355 He’s such a lovely bird. There’s just so much to love.
Awww thanks again. We are so proud on how well Mikey has done and how far he has come. Thanks again for watching.
I think Claire dances beautifully but Mikey really got the moves
Haha yup, Mikey is the def a better dancer haha
Oh god them flying over those fields made me so nervous. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a snake jump up and snatch a bird flying over a feild, I'm from the US in the south though so I don't know if this is as a big of a problem in other places.
We are in England, no snakes there so it’s pretty safe.
@@MikeyTheMacaw I believe there is one snake species in England, but is very shy and small (hence why lots of people don't know they are even there) compared to other snakes so it won't be a problem.
Gordon Ramsay's chin oh wow, never seen it but will keep an eye out. We usually fly at populated parks so I don’t think they will be there
Cottonmouths would, I remember that from living in Georgia. I don't think any of the snakes in Iowa would care, though.
Uk has the adder but I don’t know if they hunt birds in flight.
So beautiful. Well done Mikey's people.
Spacey Chapman Thank you, we are very happy with him
Narrator: Pick a flower if he wanted 😌
Me: that’s so wholesome 😂❤️
Haha awwww he does love his flowers.
Awww Mikey i'm so proud of you and your humans 😉
Kath Linke Awww thanks.
best macaw channel .i just did my first free fly in the garden .learnt alot from you guys .keep up the good work
Wow. You guys are so dedicated to his proper care. I don't normally approve of birds as pets, but he is clearly a very happy guy who has a fulfilled life.
Awww thanks. The least we can do is our best to give him the best life we can.
Aw I love this video so adorable and cute
Melody Mackey Thanks, was a lot of work to make this happen but so happy we did it
Omg I can’t believe you replied 😮 yay 😁
I'm late. But I love this! Why would you clip your birds wings, when you can train your bird to this instead! 👍👍😭😭💗💗❤️❤️
Gia 102 Thanks for watching. And omg we know right. It’s so frustrating.
I love BIRDS
Georgia Cope Yay. So do we.
I have tears of joy running down my face for Mikey! He is absolutely beautiful and is so lucky to have a mom and dad who love him so much! He is incredible!
Lori W We are all so proud of him
What an amazing achievement ..you both have gave your birds ... I was brought up with parrots all my childhood now in my 50s maybe one day I will return to my love of parrots once again ... thankyou for sharing your passion for your birds ...

Amber Moon Awww don’t cry
Mikey The Macaw & Friends I'm just so proud XD
Amber Moon so are we
Amber Moon me too Mikey did it
Ah here come the tears
Crispy Corn Haha oh no, sorry...
Awww thanks. Hopefully this channel gives you the fix you need.
wonderful to see these beautiful birds flying around free cuz a bird MUST fly even in captivity. mikey is lucky to have such a good dad and mom. take good care of him!
Tenjio79 Awww thanks. He did so well with this training. It took a while for him to get it but all that work has finally paid off and now he flys happy every day.
Why does Mikey’s success make me so happy? Love how good you guys have helped him learn to be independent!
Michele White We are so proud of him too. He did so well.
Hey. Thanks so much for the comment yes we are aware of this and very rarely stroke him on his back. Thanks for putting this out there
This video is absouletly beautiful. After watching this video, there's tear of happenies in my eyes.
So good to know that there's such warm-hearted person like you exists.
Have a happy days with Mikey 🐦💕
hw plant Awww thanks. We just want the best life for him and are so proud of how well he did.
I love what you’ve accomplished with Mikey and the great bond you have. There’s nothing like it when a Macaw bonds with their human. I cherish my Blue and Gold Macaw. Please be careful when birds of prey are near.
diane montuori Thanks. Yea of course, we always keep an eye on the sky now, Mikey always sees them before us though haha
It's wonderful that you decided to stay so dedicated.
maarakailet1 Awww we would love to see that. Of course. We want to give him the best life we can.
Thanks so much.
The narrator really makes these videos even more enjoyable.
Awww thanks.
Mojaster Awww thanks, so happy we could help with ideas. We are so proud on how well he did.
Mikey is lucky to be with these owners. This video had me crying tears of happiness. Congrats Mikey and your wonderful owners❤❤❤❤
We do our best to keep them happy.
Aww thanks.
Awesome video! I'm really glad you made the longer version. Mikey looks so happy, and I hope you guys have decades to have fun together. Congratulations!
NeutralGenericUser Awww thanks. So glad you liked it. He really did so well
that"s excactly how people should treat their parrots, Mickey is soo lucky to have such a wonderful family
Hailey Q thanks. Hopefully more people will start doing the same.
This is amazing! ☺ You are amazing for making this possible for him and taking such good care of this gorgeous little creature. They are so beautiful when they are flying... I get teary-eyed every time I see them... So touching. So beautiful. Thanks for sharing this journey!
Go Mikey! ☺
Aww thanks. It wasn’t easy but so worth it. We are so proud on how well he did.
I don’t even have words to explain how happy and proud I am for Mikey and the owners!!!!! Well done 👍 ❤️
EvePlayz MSP awww thanks. We are still so proud of how well he has done.
I cried so hard when I saw his happy Mikey was on his first flight. It was really sweet to watch.
Your narration is top notch! haha. I have an 8 y/o female B&G that I rescued and it's obvious she was caged and never allowed to fly. I hope to change that very soon! We're working on target training and changing her diet now. Mikey is her inspiration!!
Awww thanks so much. We wish you the best with your baby
Great to see Mikey out and enjoying a free flighted life style! Teaching him skills like this will set him up for life
Yup, no more tree sleep overs for Mikey haha
this is the best thing i’ve seen in my entire life. i’m so proud of Mikey and you.
Awwww thanks so much. We are so proud on how well he did.
SurferGirl Haha awww. Glad you really enjoyed the video.
Mikey ❤❤❤
Great but this is by no means a tutorial. Please book with a professional trainer.
You are so amazing! People need to be educated on how much these sweet babies need and require. I have 6 and love everyone of them!! A ton of work but so rewarding 🥰
Exactly.
Didnt realize i could get emotional of watching a bird fly. Great work for all the people and pets involved of making mikey a bird of flight
b145701s Awww thanks so much. We are so proud on how well he did.
I love watching your videos! The only thing I don’t like about them is.................
I can’t stop watching them🥰. Absolutely precious! Mommy and Daddy human are just as adorable 💗
Awww thanks. New one coming on Saturday. It’s a goodie too
Good job Mikey. I'm glad u did it and so happy for u and I'm glad that u did. Now u are hope for other macaws that had trouble getting into free flight. U did it and u earned every so gle moment.
Awesome! This brought me so much joy! 👏💖🦜💖
Wow. Lots of love and hard work with Mikey's family and Mikey The Macaw for working diligently. Respect for all this love for Mikey The Macaw. 😁
Thank You Awww thanks so much. We are so proud on how well he did.
It’s like your narrating a Disney movie and Mikey is the princess 👑.
I wish I could give a thousand likes. What a beautiful, touching and inspirational video. I admire your commitment and humanity.
Arthur Djahani Aww thanks so much. It was totally worth it.
My bird and I almost cried watching this. It might be the quarantine booze, but we loved this.. congrats Mikey.
This is a wonderful video. Thank you for being so dedicated to him. He obviously loves you as you love him. ❤
Wonderful tale! So well narrated! Mickey has got himself some awesome humans there ( as you say!!)
Freedom (hence free-flying) is what life is all about !
Such a gorgeous, heart warming video! I teared up a little! I love birds so much and seeing how happy they are when they can free fly is priceless. So proud of Mikey! ❤
Peach Awww thanks so much. We are so proud on how well he did.
its good how a sense of community can be created with the free flighted birds and the owners that makes both the birds and humans less alone in what they do
This is amazing! He is sooooo happy ❤❤❤ love this! You guys did an amazing job and now other parrot trainers will see your videos and think oh darn they are experts just like u did in the beginning! 😂❤
Haha thanks. Yea we think that now, do people with birds who don’t free fly think we are pros haha, it took a lot of work, but it’s so rewarding.
I loved this story. It was so heartwarming. Thank you for sharing and for loving him so much to let him have such a beautiful life.
He did so well right. It’s the best thing we have done.
Go Mighty Mikey! What an amazing personality. Love that he enjoys kids so much ... they have the energy to run and run! Very well done filming and narration. Keep on videoing and I'll keep on watching and sharing!
NA suzy Q Aww thanks. Glad you enjoyed the vid. And yes, we are so happy those kids are their, we definitely couldn’t be running like that daily haha
