Doctor: Look at how special I am!
Clara: No, fuck that. I have a leaf.
+Envy Shiny Hunter Surprisingly accurate XD
+Envy Shiny Hunter 1,000 years of history of time and space, impossible things, regenerating, the entire universe vs. a leaf that brought 2 people together
The leaf won
Doctor Who is a little strange...
+Kittykatsmiles it was the shear power of what could have been. The doctors past was absolute but the power that the leaf held was infinite, the things that could of happened because of it.

10 & 11 (Tennant & Smith) were the PEAK of Doctor Who. I cried with them more than any other Lonely Man and his Blue Box. Words can't explain how these 2 crept into my heart and have left such a legacy and impact on everyone who watched the series revival. Also, don't listen to Song Of Captivity/Freedom and Long Song right after one another, I did & it broke me.
I honestly agree and now with them having a woman and now a black man for the sake of societies weakness and to conform with political correctness it's truly a sad world we live in surrounded by such sensitive people who can't take a joke
@@lilyfurley9833 I agree
@@lilyfurley9833 Nothing wrong with having a black doctor (woman is debatable given how Time Lords had been established to work) but the writing is what ruined it.
@@lilyfurley9833 I mean I think it doesn't matter that much... Jodie Whittaker should have had a better showrunner and Ncuti Gatwa hasn't even started. It's got nothing to do with them being doctor or not, since timelords are gender and race fluid. Personally Ncuti Gatwa is a great actor so I'm looking forward to it. He's qualified.

This song will never fail to bring a tear to my eyes, it's purely beautiful. 'Rings of Akhaten' may have not been the best episode in the world, but with that powerful impassioned speech by Matt Smith accompanied with one of the most delicate and beautiful tunes I have ever heard - that episode will be one I shall never ever forget and for all the right reasons

''Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgement...all these people whose ancestors devoted themselves, sacrificed themselves, to you...can you hear them singing?''
You can see and hear the warm reverence in the Doctor's smile and voice. You can feel the dignity and courage that he's both drawing from the people and summoning from within himself as they stand against a seemingly insurmountable threat staring down at them. That little precursor is just as powerful to me as the epic speech that followed.

@@ladyselin35 really? my favorite ever episode is remembrance of the daleks. and while it is not a masterpiece, i really liked doctor who and the dinosaurs.
I have a theory about this song. I know that it is unlikely but it's pretty interesting. At the beggining it says "Rest now, my warrior" I don't think that they were speaking about the God, I think that it is for the Doctor. The Doctor didn't die, he regenerates into another man and then the previous Doctor goes to sleep, to rest. He is a warrior, he saves the entirely Universe a lot of times, including Akhaten, because he has already been there. Then, the next Doctor wakes up, he lives.
Pretty interesting... I want to add the fact that an instrumental version of this is playing while Eleven regenerates, just quietly but it's there...
Dr Who has layers upon layers, which makes it rich and enticing. Always. I've wept more over this show than any other show or book or tale.
It's a story the never ends because it's still going on.
Thanks. That makes much more sense than singing it to the god. I always found it weird that they sing "wake up", when they want the god to keep sleeping.
I thought I was the only one thinking this song applies directly to the Doctor, especially when we think about what River told him in Demon's Run, that the world "doctor" means warrior in the Gama Forest's language so maybe in other languages too. The Doctor is the old man resting, his time is over and another Doctor will come to take is place, he can rest
Murray Gold is REALLY underrated, he should have WAY more recognition for Doctor Who alone, hell this song is BEAUTIFUL. So much power! And that's with the rest of the soundtrack, he's a genius.
I couldn't agree more with you. Absolutely right.
when he leaves or steps down or retires or whatever . who will have died for me because Murray , has the best things to give every episode and nail it

I love that sound of multiple people singing in unison, for it sounds like the voice of humanity.

Which is funny because none of them are human

First time reading the lyrics, and holy SHIT. All this time I thought the song was referring to the parasite, but it wasn't. It's to the Doctor. No wonder it was played during his regeneration into 12.
"Let the cloak of life cling to your bones." Fitting, considering how old, and well, bone-y 12 appears. :D
Oh wow! I thought so too....OMG! I have the chills now, I just cant stop listening to this song!
I've always thought this song was about The Doctor, and it's one of my favorite songs in the show!
I interpreted it as the dr but his next chance where he was given another regen (now 2) and accepted the life he was given after he was ready to give it up
I only just realized how suiting this is for a regeneration theme. The dying Timelord/Doctor is resting now, but the new Timelord/Doctor is waking up to a new age.

In 11th's regeneration, if you listen closely to the background music there is a moment where you hear a section of this song.
PresidentSnow To be honest I have a feeling this song is actually a prelude to the doctors regeneration. The bit about let the cloak of life cling to your bones seems reminiscent of how 11 (or as he actually was 12... or 13 in regenerations) got the gift of a new regeneration cycle from the time lords. 11 can rest now, but the life still clings to his old body.
PresidentSnow Yes - that piece of music is called Infinite Potential. Separate track on the album.

I'm Clara Oswald, I was born to save the Doctor." "When you love the Doctor, it's like loving the stars themselves, you don't expect a sunset to admire you back." ; "... time can be re-written." "Not those times, not one moment. Don't you dare." ; "You, me, time and space- you watch us run!" Who else didn't realise that this song was really about the Doctor until that tiny trace of it they put into his regeneration scene? Mind - blown.
When I heard the song the first time I was like "yep, this is the one they are using.."
People loved this song, it's appropriate and they made it subtle. Loved it.
NewFormofSilence The words describe the last episode perfectly too.
Indeed mind blown.. i just remember the lyrics "live, wake up wake up" from the song and fit perfectly there.. (though took me a while to realise which song it was) :)
"Rest now my warrior. Rest now, your hardship is over." From the centuries he spent fighting the Cybermen and Daleks defending Gallifrey and Christmas.

I swear, the more I learn about this episode, the more incredible it is. Mat Smith's era may have had it's share of horrible episodes but this one is definitely not among them. One of the few episodes that lets us look past the front he puts up for the people around him. We finally get to see why he's been acting the way he has since he regenerated. He views life as a burden, each loss pushing him closer to the edge. Lets not forget that this episode happens relatively close to when Amy and Rory died. It's the closest to suicide the Doctor has come since the relaunch and if not for Clara, it would have succeeded. Meanwhile the lyrics of the song are constantly prompting him to take a hold of life instead of throwing it away. How fitting that this song should also play at his regeneration, when he is finally ready to take the good with the bad in life and fully embrace it. THIS is where Matt Smith's Doctor truly shines.
Shurue That's a very good point! I think he already made the choice to accept the bad as well as the good, though, when he married River knowing how she would end and came back for Amy and Rory.
Shurue
And then all that character development was stolen by a leaf.
Honestly it should have ended with him regenerating right here to the next doctor. Hm?
meepo44fromroblox That would have been awesome, I won't deny that. However, I also can't deny that I like the fact that he got the chance to learn to enjoy life again over the course of this season by having a companion who has literally been with him through all his adventures. Clara saving him in that moment is actually pretty symbolic when you get down to it.
+Shurue I dunno. The Doctor seemed pretty close to suicide after losing Rose. Remember how there was an entire episode about what would have happened if Donna didn't get him away from the Racnoss?
@@CabbageSandwichgenuinely what was wrong woth the leaf
1:35--The sound of the choir singing as an image of the Doctor pointing his sonic screwdriver fades in gives me chills. The look on Matt's face is beautiful. It says, "I've been around for centuries and I'm going to defend all that is good in the universe no matter what". Powerful.
One of the most beautiful five minutes in TV history
"Okay then. That’s what I’ll do. I’ll tell you a story. Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgment. All these people whose ancestors devoted themselves - sacrificed themselves - to you. Can you hear them singing? Oh, you like to think you’re a God. Well, you’re not a God - you’re just a parasite, eaten out with jealous, envy, and longing for the lives of others. You feed on them. On the memory of love, and loss, and birth, and death, and joy, and sorrow…so…SO…come on then, take mine. Take. My. Memories. But I hope you’ve got a big appetite. Because I have lived a LONG life, and I have seen a few things. I walked away from the last Great Time War. I marked the passing of the Time Lords. I saw the *birth* of the universe and I watched as time RAN OUT, moment by moment, until NOTHING remained - NO TIME, NO SPACE, JUST ME! I walked in universes where the laws of physics were devised by the mind of a mad man. And I’ve watched universes freeze, and creation burn - I have seen things you WOULDN’T BELIEVE AND I HAVE LOST THINGS YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND - and I know things. Secrets that must never be told. Knowledge that must NEVER be *SPOKEN*! KNOWLEDGE THAT WILL MAKE. PARASITE.GODS. BLAZE! SO COME ON, THEN!!! TAKE IT!!!! TAKE IT ALL, BABY!!!!! HAVE IT! YOU. HAVE. IT. ALL!!!!!!!!!!"

I plan on having this played at my funeral. This song is so powerful and so moving. I remember this episode and it still brings tears to my eyes.
A week ago we had to put my dog to sleep, when my parents had left to take him to the vet to have him put to sleep, I couldn't cry but I wanted to so I thought music might help and I thought what better music to cry to than music from Doctor Who so I put the audio on headphones on full and I listened to this song and I cried and I thought of fond memories of that faithful stupid dog of mine, long may he rest!
This melody would really cut deep to the Depressed after going through a great deal of pain and suffering, coaxing them to look up and see that there is more to life than the past, and the future will always be there to hope for.
damn, you put into words why this song is so meaningful to me. I also feel like this is what it means when used for the Doctor's regeneration - coaxing him to keep living, even when he has seen and done so much and is so tired. Because there is so much more to do, so much more to see, and a universe full of hope to explore. Including, and worth, all the heart(s)break that comes with it.
As someone who understands The Doctor, all the guilt, pain and self-loathing, it honestly does.
Yes it makes people realize how hedonism is meaningless. Self indulgence does nothing for the betterment of mankind
Matt Smith was one AWESOME Doctor :)!

The Rings of Akhatan is one of my favorite Doctor Who episode for this song alone.
That's what I love about the doctor and this tune. Despite us always seeing him/her as the mad one running about eccentrically doing things and saving people, this song helps those of us that know of them, see him and all his incarnations as that singular extremely old, long lived and tired figure that has done so soo much endlessly, and countless times saved so many from enormous catastrophise and been worn out through so much emotional joys and devastation, that he isn't just a single figure anymore but an entity that can, as small as it is, face even a planet sized being and still over shadow it.
Ya know, as much as a leaf does.
This is the most beautiful song out of Doctor Who imo :)

I don't want to sound depressing but I want this song sung at my funeral in the same way with the slow singing and small pauses
Same like me bro.Its just too good and sad.
I feel the same way, actually.
I died when they resued it in the Christmas special....
Same
good night raggady man
This is my alarm for whenever I get up. Makes me feel like a badass getting up
cool
ME TOO OMG
lol this made me laugh when im crying props that hard to do...
Mine is ‘I am the doctor’ there’s a lot of hate for it because it was used to often but I still like it. Unlike everyone else I don’t get bord of things that easy
i could never do that because i would end up hating the song for waking me up and i love it too much
Rest in peace, John Hurt.
Evilgidgit4Ever He was the best Actor in Doctor Who
I hope one day he will come back. Maybe just as a mistake like the 10th but please. The time with him was too short and I can't stand the 12th Doctor (might be because I barely understand him). But then we need the Ponds back again as well. The girl who waited and the last centurion, the boy who waited 2000 years for his love to come. It broke my heart when they died.
I agree that season 8 did not give very much character to the new Doctor. However his character did start to develop at the time of season 9.
Lucas The PK Master Hmm okay but a whole season without a proper Doctor? Meh...
JacktheRah The good storytelling, funny jokes and a good companion made it good.
Lucas The PK Master Hmm... okay maybe I'll give it a try. But I still have a hard time understanding him whilst I haven't had this problem with any Doctor Who character so far.
JacktheRah Trust me.It took some time to get used to Tennant after Eccleston left for me as well.Oh and if you do not think what i said about season 8 is true , keep in mind it is my oppinion.
Take mine. Take my memories. But I hope you're got a big a big appetite. Because I've lived a long life. And I've seen a few things. I walked away from the last great Time War. I marked the passing of the Time Lords. I saw the birth of the universe and watched as time ran out, moment by moment, until nothing remained. No time, no space. Just me! I walked in universes where the laws of physics were devised by the mind of a madman! And I watched universes freeze and creation burn! I have seen things you wouldn't believe! I have lost things you will never understand! And I know things, secrets that must never be told, knowledge that must never be spoken! Knowledge that will make parasite gods blaze! So come on then! Take it! Take it all, baby! Have it! You have it all!
I read it exactly how he said it XD
:3
I never thought I could love Matt more than David but oh dear this scene THIS SCENE
edajflow Wait a minute... he didn't say "killed the Time Lords"... after Day of the Doctor this becomes very significant.
***** But there is so much more that should have happened but did not than that did actually happen- a look through human history should tell you that! The protesters in Baltimore have this fact as their banner, and so do environmentalists and people who visit war memorials and, yes, even people who hold cultural grudges we think are stupid about things that happened hundreds of years ago, and dammit, sometimes I don't know what the Doctor sees in the human race!
Now I must come to terms with my past... My many mistakes, my many regrets, I must face my past... and wake up.
feels
Crazy how a show can affect you like this. Make you think, make you cry, and get you so attached to the characters that you really feel hurt when they're gone...
When Matt was regenerating that time in the background this song was being played
I believe this will be played in the christmas special... like Vale Decem. More sorrowful though. Prepare those tears people!
I realize this was playing while the the doctor was regenerating in the tardis with Clara
However many years since I first watched The Rings of Akhaten and this still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Yes, it was a great speech and one if the best from Matt Smith as 'The Doctor' however in this episode, I also have to give props for the speech given from Clara when she holds the leaf. To me, that was just as meaningful and beautiful as she was talking about time that never was due to tragedy. The whole two episodes was so impactful all across the board that not one scene or word didn't..it was just..awesome.
If BBC would makes an episode where the Doctor actually dies, BUT after he dies, all the people that he saved, they will all sing this song and while they are singing, he slowly rises off the ground with light particles covering his entire body, and after the song is halfway over, the light particles will slowly disappear, and the Doctor's body will be set standing up and his head slowly rises and when he opens his eyes, he will regenerate (like David Tennant's regeneration) into a new Doctor. Like if you like this idea 😃
I would cry over an episode like that.
+Kyle Weaver That would be beautiful.
+Kyle Weaver I think it'd be nice if all his companions were shown through a compilation while this song is playing...
Also, it'd be maybe better if instead of purely this song, a medley of songs stretching across all his adventures.
Side note, maybe all the light particles scatter in the wind, but in the end credits you see the TARDIS flying through space hinting that the Doctor even ran from Death.
I don't know about the particles and regeneration and stuff, but everyone he's saved singing the song would be beautiful.
+Russell Kostal that would be, just , beautiful. I think everyone who has working tear ducts would cry like hell and start a massive flood.
This is so good that it's not useful to notice the lyrics go "rest now... WAKE UP"
2020 I still came here to hear.
We miss you, you madman
We're all stories in the end, just make it a good one. Because it was, you know -11th Doctor
Raggedy Man, Goodnight.
Raggedy Man
2010-----------------2013
Also in memory of Amy pond and Rory Williams. also handless
Elder Dev YOU ARE FORGETTING SOMEBODY
was it river song
Elder Dev YES
I'm not a warrior Rory, I'm a nurse.
Oh my handless..i miss his more
It's so moving. A haunting melody that is releasing fear and defying it. It's beautiful, and nothing I expected to find in Doctor Who
Why is that?
This song would be beautiful at the funeral of a great person, imagine a beloved person is dying and hundreds or thousands of people singing "wake up". It would make a fantastic ending to a story
Is it bad that I'm tearing up? Can't wait for 12th doctor
nope - not at all
me too! :-)
No....... Not again im not watching the 12th for me it ended with matt smith
The true doctor
TheTrueHeroOfOlympus dude u probably arent a real fan if you were you would be looking forward to the new doctor because the doctor will always be the doctor no matter who he is

Yep, grown man here shedding tears.. Only show to ever bring out the feels for me has been Doctor Who...
brenden619 I have nothing but respect for you :-)
When the show was actually good, i wish hearing this song would bring our old doctor back 😔😔😔 oh how he is missed.......
Yep
In my opinion, it was good until the 13th era. Plus season 7 was trash.
beautiful just beautiful!!! everyone who watched this is a Whovian and Proud
This and Vale Decem are just brilliant. All the memories of my two favorite Doctor's, David and Matt in two songs.
This is my alarm now "LIIIIIIIIIIVE! WAKE UP!"
Inspires yah to get trough the day, I guess.
hahahaha, pure genius.
HAHAHAHAHA thankyou i will now be waking up to that too
Oh thank you so much. I was going mad watching the scene itself over and over. Thank you! This song gives me chills and makes me weep EVERY time I listen to it.
They're all different people all throughout their lives, but that's good, so long as we remember who they used to be.
Rest in peace Doctor
this song makes me cry when i hear it. it is truly beautiful ..
me too
