Shit genuinely pales in comparison IMO but that's just me.
Samwise Gamjesus the only reason it sounds “poppy” is because of the studio quality sound and backing track. The first part where jaskier/dandelion was actually singing live while playing has this authentic feel mostly due to it, well, being “live”. Imo, the transition was natural. Yeah it kinda loses that “authentic vibe” due to it, but you can’t just let that raw “live” audio play all throughout the episode. This is still a tv show. Now, if it’s a theater play on the other hand, then that’s when I’ll wholeheartedly agree with you. But I do get where you’re coming from. Maybe I’m just a bit lax on critiquing this show that’s why it didn’t bother me as much.
I always found this song SUPER endearing. like, on the surface, it's clearly just "hey the witcher killed this beast, pay him" but underneath it, it's Jaskier's way of getting people to stop being afraid of the witcher and hating him everywhere he goes. And in the show, they captured Geralt's reaction perfectly. geralt doesn't want to admit it, but somewhere deep down he does care, at least a little bit, about what people think of him. but he'd never openly admit it. so he just gives this satisfied nod of approval. it's perfect..

Oh man you're a genius. I could start using this whenever I need to wash the dishes, pay the bills, clean the house or do some other stupid-ass adult things what I don't want to do.
Well, what really happened is he got kicked by a ragged band of elves. Almost got killed by it, though he's not afraid when the blade kisses his throat.
I always get chills at this exchange. We start seeing that the grumpy Geralt is actually kind of an idealist, and the flamboyant Jaskier a realist. The exact opposite of how they choose to appear to the world. Thus a friendship is born. It's really not hard to see why the characters in The Witcher are so instantly iconic.
This makes me think about just how many history books could very well be fabricated and a bunch of old goons just sitting back, watching students study fake shit til 3 am to get a grade, whilst sipping on wine saying "Yes you dumb mortals" -giving me frontman from Squid Game vibes. Fucking hell bro I would be so mad if that were the case...maybe it is ....JUST.MAYBE.
The meta part about this song is that the point of Dandelion's songs was to improve the image of Geralt. Which is exactly what this song is doing for the show as well. Well done Dandelion!
I forget the exact words, but the first time Geralt hears the tune in the show is my personal favourite (and saddest) scene in the series. He stops and they say (something like) "That isn't what happened" "It doesn't matter" And Geralt looks more hurt in that moment than any other moment I can remember in the whole damn season. That was a goddamn scene.
@@andreboden1437 I heard that he got hired because the director saw him singing and playing the lute online. also apparently he was the only audition who brought his own lute.
If you wanna hear more by him (I loved him in The Witcher so googled) listen to his band The Amazing Devil. He plays guitar and sings. For the series, he sang and LEARNT TO PLAY THE LUTE! He said in interviews (search for him Joey Batey) that he comes from a musical household. He was with the Shakespeare Company for a while.
A rare pearl in the midst of this ocean of music. The hot and calm voice, the intensity of the lyrics and the sweet melody come straight to the heart!! Masterpiece 🔝

I found my way back to this song, and I continue to be astounded by the range. Going from the falsetto on 'valley of plenty' to a growl on 'pour him some ale' is really incredible.
if you mean emotional range, yeah, it sounds nice... but if you mean high of falsetto to low of growl then it's not a range thing - they are totally different techniques being used, to get totally different sounds. Like a person whistling and then whispering is not moving along a vocal range, those are noises made in totally different ways.

@@Raven_Nivhaar yes but all witchers choose to go through with becoming a witcher, i suppose he didnt really have a chose tho if he didnt have anywhere else to go so i guess you're right.
@@lucabiesse9937 Also if he was abandoned to them they'd probably bring him up with every intention of him choosing to go through the trails. Children are very impressionable and easily puck up their parents or gaurdians opinions or prejudices whether it's intended or not so there could be a subconscious brainwashing that influences them to go through the trails making the point that there wasn't really that much choice. You can also think about it as them being isolated from other possibilities which would also influence them and of course as mentioned they might have no where else to turn.
Throughout the song the background adds more and more orchestral music. This gradual increase in tone signifies the popularity of Jaskier's song. The more the orchestral music rises the more popular his tale becomes in the lore. Who else noticed ?
I didn't notice. I'm a little confused maybe. I thought the song built up because it's song - that's what many many songs do, in general. Not all, but it's a pretty standard arrangement, cuz it works. And I think an easier conceptual match up is - it builds along with the addition of Witcher adventures described, and as the case for why the Witcher should be praised grows - from "Hey, this guy does a few things, give him a coin", to "Hey look! This guy saves you all, all the time! Give him praise and drink and everything you have!". It's not the popularity of the tale that increases (I'm pretty sure the song doesn't mention anywhere that the tale becomes more popular), it's the size of the feats, the number of them, and the awe and gratitude the listener should feel as they become aware of how much the Witcher does for them. But hey, just my 2 cents.
I mean, the tone increased as it went through more and more dramatic scenes of the shows. If you watched the show, you'll probably realize the orchestral additions were done for dramatic addition. They really kicked into gear when Yennifer started coming into frame and going through her shit. Specifically, it begins to pick up when it reaches the scene of her sacrificing her colleagues for power.
To be honest that would make it seem like a real 90s show. Imagine this song, with the characters tilting their heads towards the screen one by one and having the actors name underneath, as the same time as this song plays in the background. That is a thing of the past my dude (EDIT) It seems like somebody was way ahead of me. There is a video with that exact thing on youtube. And also a friends version.
yep. no hate to the other actors, or the new geralt, but its lost its charm. how can you switch the MAIN character? thats like calling a movie harry potter but removing the main trio, its no longer harry potter is it? might be the same world but call it something different (hence fantastical beasts was born). Geralt: That's not how it happened. Where's your newfound respect?
Jaskier: Respect doesn't make history.
OR MONEY!
Why do I feel like Jaskier can be strong like Gerald

I forget the exact words, but the first time Geralt hears the tune in the show is my personal favourite (and saddest) scene in the series. He stops and they say (something like)
"That isn't what happened"
"It doesn't matter"
And Geralt looks more hurt in that moment than any other moment I can remember in the whole damn season. That was a goddamn scene.
I know the name dandelion is the correct name but Jaskier just sounds so much better and so much more Witchery.
ive seen no one praise Jaskiers voice so far. so props to the actor, AWESOME voice.
Agreed. Do you know if he got any musical training or just sang for this part?
@@andreboden1437 I heard that he got hired because the director saw him singing and playing the lute online. also apparently he was the only audition who brought his own lute.
I read he does sing professionally and has a band actually.
Was literally the first thing I said when you first hear him singing in the tavern. He's really good.

Words can’t describe how much i love this song especially the part when it goes like toss a coin to your witcher
I love how jaskier created this song to raise awareness for the shit that witchers have to go through. Like geralt didn’t choose to become a Witcher
The witchers are a fascinating concept; to what ends are we willing to go to for protection?
he literally did choose to become a witcher. (he was a kid tho i guess)
@@lucabiesse9937 Didn't his mom basically sell him to the Witchers? Did he really have a choice? I'm not familiar with the books or games, but in the show it was shown that he was essentially abandoned.

Perfection!
Jaskier: "When a humble bard"
Geralt: "Thats not what happened"
Specifically, it begins to pick up when it reaches the scene of her sacrificing her colleagues for power.
i agree. i got that feeling too. good spot :)
So with the story of the Witcher Dandelion(,Jaskier) is telling the story so he'll be bound to make his music more orchestra esk.
