- Welcome back! It's been awhile since we've done some Space Engineers Survival and so I think with 2021 should come a new survival series. And where better than the new planet - Pertam! In this episode of our new SE survival series, we do all of the early game stuff from gathering rocks, to exploring the landscape for possible base locations, to creating that first base structure. Episode 1 is the best time to leave comments for whatever ideas you might have for the future of the series, because the possibilities are endless!
Series settings (In case you're interested):

@@Redicule_research._ridiculous ... yes
On pertram, Ice is very very rare. Look for dark green grass, there's always ice underneath. the yellow-green grass patches are useless.
EDIT: And as people suggest underground bases, yeah - it keeps you safe from the thunderstorms.
Reminder #1: Optimal placement for Wind Turbines is 8+ blocks above the voxels and 5 blocks of unobstructed space to the sides; from the center block of the turbine (I think).
Reminder #2: Complete the front suspension on the rover. (2 Small Steel Tubes each was the bottleneck)
Reminder #3: Antennae and Decoys can be used as 'lightning rods' to focus the damage, but you can still be struck if you're in your suit and not under cover. (ground or grid above you)
Recommendation #1: Build underground in the opposite direction of the Wind Turbine to stay out of the way of your easily-drivable area. Pertam has frequent storms and lightning does damage. Having at least one protected base is pretty much requisite on this planet.
Recommendation #2: That rover is looking a bit tipsy. Yes it's ok now, but what happens when you add steering/power to the front by completing the front gear? I would move those rover wheels out at least one or two blocks and down one block. This would give you better clearance and stability. Now, this may look a bit weird length-wise, but that's where the next item comes in. (see next)
Recommendation #3: Add a Medium Cargo Container and Connector to the back of the Survival Kit. You won't need any Cobalt for the Medium CC, as it doesn't take Metal Grids (not sure about the Connector). This solves the length issue from Recommendation #2, by letting you extend the wheel base, the over-all cargo issue, AND the recharging issue. Add connector to base and POOF, you're set for a while.
It's good to see some SE survival content from you again. I was getting worried you dropped the game. I'll be looking forward to more.
Thank you so much for these recommendations! I think I need to alter my turbine setup. The idea for an underground base moving away from the turbines is also really cool. I could try to stay level while digging into that mountain so that it looks sort of natural.
Jawa Sandcrawler style mobile base, Large grid of course. Slow moving and multiple floors.
A roof for the lightnings
YES!!!
A land train would be quite fun. If you want to embrace the land based vehicle motif, you can have a monorail be and end game goal. I really think that a mod like Modular Encounters adds quite a lot to the game. You rarely have to worry about hostile people destroying your base unless you start attacking a factions ships. You get traders and more faction integration. If you want to RP being a pirate you can get a lot of resources quickly by attacking any ships that wander through.
I only discovered your content a few weeks ago and haven't finished watching it all but glad to see you making a new survival series.
If you hold “F” while you are drilling, you can pick up most of the ore/stone as you mine it
Right
Bruh
I just use the auto pickup mod, you can also use it to filter out stone so your not constantly dumping stone out of your inventory to make room for ore.
Yay! SE again! This will help me over a hard time again! :)
Maybe a nomad vehicle would be nice. so a mobile base you can travel around with and some small buggies in it to deplay for mining and so on. :D
How about a satellite in space to be able to use GPS? It would be a nice goal. And you have to build at least one above every planet to use GPS on those planets.
I like this idea very much. Basically RP-ing a functional GPS. You could even set a rule that you can only place a GPS coordinate if you have line-of-sight to the satellite (not including small hills), so you need more than one, but not more than 4-6 of them. I think going an entire series without GPS would be very annoying for everyone; including you, the player. Having a path for 'gaining access' to GPS on each planet adds to the RP/goals, and the playability.
@@ReiXor1 Exactly my thinking!
i like that idea
Oh this a great idea! Though to be accurate, you'd need 3-4 satellites to properly calibrate a GPS location.
Having said that, this would be an awesome idea for a series, where you need to launch satellites in order to gain GPS functionality.
Current day GPS requires 4 satellites to get GPS location. If you wanted to use current day technology, you'd want to place 4 satellites in space with atomic clocks for highly accurate synchronized time, and ability to broadcast over extremely long range (or line of sight).
I love how much patience you have with your world. If I were you, I'd immediately restart if I was to fall in rabbit hole like your buggy flipping.
A past me might have, but with the battery technique, it's not too difficult to flip things back over
Ohhh yeah. This is my new sleep aid for the foreseeable future.
I like your Stone efficiency test. Others have done the same thing in the past but including the WHY of doing something in Survival is cool to me.
Since you've turned off progression on your world. People using this as a Survival guide will be blindsided by it.There is an easy sequence of parts you can grind to hack, and weld back the Pod to get through a lot of it. I wish more of the SE videos featured that. If you want to join an official Keen server, you can't turn that off. Thanks for the video!
That's a good point. I am actually using progression but some of the earlier things are already done due to multiple takes of episode 1.
For the markers, do a battery, a beacon, and a wind turbine on planet and solar panels in space. Since the gravity will make welding ships harder to use, you try a rover that uses the classic Build-&-Repair system (BoB) for building. A good name for it could ‘The BoB Cat’. The BoB’s on your rovers could also keep the wheels in good repair so that they wont need replacing as often. For oxygen, you could probably hook up a vent set to depressurization to an O2 tank.
Yayyy new series gonna be epic!
Its perfect how you found cobalt right away when i never find any ever😂
There is always something in every playthrough that takes ages to find. Sometimes it's silver, other times it's magnesium. Funny enough, later in this series, I totally forget about this cobalt and spend a good deal of time trying to find some XD
Towers as markers is good idea. Since you have the Mod added, What I did was make a tower with one windmill and then add the Exhaust stack with sparks/electric arc next to it. those things let off sparks you can see from 8 kilometers away. never get lost, lol.
If u have a refinery at a mine site, You can also set them to ignite while your refinery is using power. That way when it stops u can go pick up a full run of ore.
If you REALLY want a more complicated game requiring more manufacturing set up options (as well as new mining mechanics), try the Industrial Overhaul Mod. its VERY VERY cool.
Awesome stuff man! I’m looking forward for more! Cheers!
Nice video! I would love to see you create a huge place for lots of rovers with different purposes. You could use rusty colors to give it a Mad Max kind of aesthetic. I think it would fit the planet really well!
That's a great idea! The rust would look pretty awesome!
Excited for your new series!
I haven't tried Pertam yet, I'll be following along to see how it plays out.
Andrewman: Rock, get it?
Me: That's metal, though.
Accidentally found your channel. Im gonna follow this series for sure. You gave me an idea, I'm gonna start a truly nomadic playthrough without building a single land establishment. Hope that works.
Same
Probably
Wow that’s nice how you see all 3 planets.
Here's an idea. Underground base with a rover hanger
Edit: I saw someone else say a mobile base so maybe this can be a place for you to recharge the mobile base
A mobile base on pertram is a gamble due to thunderstorms, though.
I second and third the underground base approach. Pertam has regular storms and yes, the lightning can hurt/kill you as well as damage/destroy your grids. I've been told that Antennae and Decoys can be used to work as 'lightning rods', but I strongly recommend building at least one decent-sized base underground to start from. You can still do mobile base later, and keep the underground one as backup; in case your mobile base re-spawn gets destroyed/loses power. If you do build underground, I strongly recommend building in the more prominent part of the hill; in the opposite direction of the Wind Turbine.
I think he did an underground base last season.
@@samgill1287 I don't think that's a good enough reason not to, and on Pertam it's kinda necessary to have at least one base that's protected from the weather to start with.
Love the pertram planet has a very desolate but beautiful vibe to it. Reminds me of Australia but more forgiving and less dangerous.
It's fun seeing people discover stuff for the first time 😀
Looking forward to this
You convinced me to not only play this game but also subscribe, thank you for the content! :)
Enjoy SE! It's great fun XD
Yeah truck would be good for hauling all the ore and everything you need.
Would be cool to make an under ground base.
This game looks like alot of fun.
Glad to see you back on SE 😃
Lol Pertam reminds me of tatooine so maybe build a Jawa sandcrawler and go exploring 😀. Good vid, like the content so far 😊
You can process stone into Iron, Nickel and Silicon in the survival kit!! You can actually make MOST stuff from regular stone... only the more advanced stuff like thrusters, superconductors, and things like that require the exotic ores. The only one you need to find asap, other than ice of course, is Cobalt, which is needed early for large grid cargo containers. You can make a BATTERY purely out of rock, and you can make win generators with only rocks... You can make conveyors, drills, pistons, advanced rotors... purely out of stone again. with 3-4 drills, a few pistons and an advanced rotor or two... you can make a cheap stationary drill that will mine you hundreds of thousand stone VERY ealy game!
Keep on the lookout for two main geological features for ice: The badlands (very rough surface, looks like a dried swamp with tiny sharp peaks) where ice doesn't cause dark grass to grow, and any valley with greenery where you'll find the dark grass spots.
Thanks for the tip! I'm actually now very curious to see what these badlands look like. They sound really cool!
@@AndrewmanGaming When you find a place that looks like it's a bad place to drive a rover, the ice is in the blue-gray splotches. I don't know how they pulled off making that place unique, but they sure did! I want to add that when you can build yourself a fast, flying ship, I'd love to see you go full speed through the narrow, deep chasm that crosses half the planet. That would be very fun!
9:21 getting Ace Ventura flashbacks 😁

Space Engineer in a fucking Alberqueque Plains. So original.
very nice
it's been a long time since you last uploaded a survival series video
i can see your Respawn Ship Rover (RSR) will treat you well for these first few episodes of the series
also, i am in favor of introducing exactly one enemy ship
this will make it so you don't just have to manage your resources, but also have to repel enemy attacks occasionally
although you should probably introduce it once you have built weapon systems on your vehicles so you are not totally defenseless
Yeah that's a good idea. Something to keep me on my toes.
About F@+#&$g time man.... Dang!!!
A mobile base with a boring mechanism built in, so where ever you go, if you find ores like iron, you can mine it instantly and if you have some refinaries on it, you can refine it as well
Sometimes, I think I am dumb... As I have never played survival on Space Engineers till the other day, and I decided to try it on Pertam, and my days it is fun, but also so hard.... Hahahaha, especially when the Spiders start coming out the ground hahaha
Mmmm engineer brains.. *orders brains via door dash*
Nice!
Good luck i miss your planet coasters videos
This planet really gives me Pandora vibes
"Don't wanna waste the daylight here" - someone during nighttime probably
I usually use small grid markers. A landing gear a battery a beacon and a solar panel will usually be enough to mark locations. If you wanna get fancy: a programmable block running Isy's Solar Alignment script and put the solar panel on a rotor/hinge combo. It's a net gain in power for running the program and rotor/hinge.
Oooo that's a good idea! I haven't decided if I want to use beacons and antenna markers yet. Even still, I could mark things with lights that are powered the way you describe.
You could also use the compass mod, so you know for example "iron is south of the base" or whatever it happens to be
man I missed these episodes
A pun in just over 2:00 in, this’ll be fun
Put in Reavers! :)
BURNIN DAYLIGHT !!! HEAD-EM UP, MOVE-EM UP RAWHIDE!!!
This is Sandbox eksploration game? Very cool when first saw itu, and looking people play itu then i found this video, very great
I love the way this game plays out. But, I kinda wish there was potential danger from something other than drones or other players. Some creatures would be nice. Even if aesthetic...
I believe storms affect your suits power, due to the cold you use more energy.
You can use remote control blocks to let the trucks patrol and automatically collect the ores
love to see anothe SE series!
Few things;
1; hold F when drilling to collect all the ores.
2: there is lightning in the game and it is awfull, in theory beacons and antenas should act like lightning rods.
In practice it is god damn orbital bombardment shreding heavy armor like paper, highly recommend "No lightning damage" mod.
3 As for mobile bases, this size is stil able to move without problems steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2403211191
4 i hope you disabled trash cleanup or those markers are going to be deleted.
5 Iron silicon and nickel deposits are more or less useless since you can process stone into those metals, it is best in my opinion to place your base over cobalt and create huge strip mining piston powered contraption to get all the metal you will ever want.
Thank you for these tips! I'll keep lightning damage on for now because I've never seen this destruction you speak of and it might be fun to witness it first hand :D The base you showed is huge! I cant believe you can drive with something that large. The trash cleanup was a really good tip. I'll have to look into it. I think as long as I power the markers, they wont get smited but idk for sure.
@@AndrewmanGaming Just go into trash clean up settings and uncheck "stations" this will stop markers from being deleted and bloks anchored to the ground have minimal performance hit anyway.
Alt F10 ,trash clean up Apply settings
This mobile drill drives totaly fine thanks to bank of atmo thrusters on the back but I admit it lacks some wheels, second version will have aditional row of wheels and at least one pair of wheels more in each row.
nice
i have watching this series in reverse
"cobalt is pretty common isn't it?"
*me wasting a whole day searching it*: yeah sure 🙂.....
There is always atleast 1 material that should be common but takes forever to find! :D
@@AndrewmanGaming just started a new game, but still I can't find that damn cobalt :(
lessss gooooo
Yeah you don't have pistons cause you need to do things in order lol For me proper order is GPS/base/rover/ship
Keep a look out for droids
you should got some that Cobalt, you need it for Building grids.
Welcome to the wasteland!
Suggestion: Clang drive on all manned vehicles
can't believe that was his 3rd or 4th time recording
Rock.
Rock!
Put a connection for your vehicle to get powered up.
PvE would be badass
New Sub, nice series, love survival engineers... you want a new idea for a series or a event, Space Engineers Hunger Games... or 2 teams in a little moon with the objective of ending each other. That should be fun, any opinions?
Are there any videos of that second idea?
I would use beacons for some of the more important ores and your base location
I'll consider it a little later into the game. I thought it might be fun to try to memorize the environment and really get a feel for where everything is. As I venture out farther, this may turn out to be more difficult than I thought, but we'll see!
I look forward to seeing how things development in the series. And best of luck
please use nano's at some point. also enemies would be fine and then take their stuffs!!
Or canyons a thing on this world if so it'd be real cool to have a base inside
flying drones wouldn't be able to hurt you as easy and ground drones couldn't
even get to you without crashing and burning just my thoughts
finally.
Hold F while drilling to pick up as the rocks spawn
the......... seat.......... isnt........... CENTERED
Pertam looks like arrakis
For PVE, assertive cargo ships and reavers are good.
Assertive cargo ships might be better for the start, I think they are pretty chill if you leave them alone and your tech score is low. Or something like that.
@@orvishana1210 I like them because they don’t just throw you resources. I was thinking the reavers would be there for when he gets to space.
Yeah that makes sense
is there a way to set it up the same way it is here?
hold "f" when mining to collect as you drill.
I have an idea, what U think about mobile base, some kind of a big truck or something like a train
That's a pretty cool idea! If I want to move later in the series, I might build a mobile base.
..... Was that Rammstein?
There is a auto pickup mod if you play with those
Next time you flip that little vehicle could you try a rotor with an arm to rotate and flip you back would that work
Hey, what mods do you use? I noticed you had one that was sucking up the stones, also what do you have your inventory capacity set to?
Just started watching this and was wondering is building a base underground feasible?
It is definitely feasible! In the series before this, I did an entire season just underground. It's a lot of digging for sure, but it can be done!
Co-Op Survival , Lost Colony
did you fine that ship on the orbit base and flew it down? or did you make it?
Edit: I figured it out
This is like one of those questions on Reddit where the person asked a question but then figured it out and didn’t write what they figured out. 😂
use left click to mine but not get any rock and get below the stone layer mine the stone layer it will be better for getting as much rock as posibel
why leave the rover so far away that you have to keep running back ad forth?
Is the PC and the Xbox Series X/S version the same?
There are definitely a few differences like control schemes, menu views, and mod availability, but the core gameplay should be the same.
@@AndrewmanGaming Thanks for your response, I bought the game and just started playing can confidently day console players will be satisfied as everything looks works and sounds the same as on your vids!
Me on pertam
Lightning ⚡️ fucking kills me every time
How did you get tubes?
if you are playing without gps might wanna add the compas mod
Not a bad idea. For now, I will try to use the planets above me to navigate, but if that becomes too difficult, I might add on the compass :D
? Is night vision a thing if not could it be
and I don't mean like everything is visible
just a little bit further than your lights max range
I started out on Pertam and Zeus kept destroying my wind generation towers. Lightning storms are annoying as hell.
Comment for algorithm
The one thing about this planet I don't like is the difficulty finding ice.
Also, couldn't you have just manufactured small steel tubes in the survival kit?
I've gotten a few tips that there is some underneath the green areas that have trees.
@@AndrewmanGaming Oh yeah! Now I remember hearing about that.
how do you make the pcu unlimited?
You need sneeky sounds, it quiets down the tool and weather sounds oh and sandworms....
Or zombies I can provide zombies 😁
I will definitely add the sounds mod. Those drills are sooo loud. Now what's this about zombies?
I’d watch you do a survival
