Love the talk, and I will personally say I do believe the people who got into S in the beginning got there because the meta was not defined yet, and anyone who found it early, basically slaughtered everyone on their way up - Now, you find meta builds even in lower ranks, and you "have" to be the better player to make it through most of the time. I think the main problem online could be fixed if any "insta-stagger" weapon was switched to defender side netcode. Like, really - JUST that change would do so much. Also, I wish there was ranked teams with your friends, that would really help the community have some more fun and make squads you could practice with normally -
I did encounter one hacker who was doing something cool, their name was just "I SEE YOU", and they spawned in with an exact copy of my AC, but all black. It was crazy, like a dark link fight.
There are 4 major problems in the game for me which made playing PvP in general not fun and I think this is why Ranked feels broken. - The Stagger multiplier which ended up making the game "Who gets the stagger first" 90% of the time. Not only did the game punish you by stopping your movements, you also got punished further by eating an absurd amount of damage. not to mention stagger can be extended too, punishing you further. I would rather die from trying to evade stuff rather than get a 1 hit KO or knuckle combo'd to death because I got staggered once and can't break free. - Parts that can alter damage incentivize players to use the same parts with drawbacks that can be easily rectified by another part (i.e. Basho arms and Ocellus etc) - High-damaging weapons (especially dual-wielded) are piss easy to use and spammable (add net code issues and it's even worse). I like the 1.01 Karasawa ammo count because it makes the user have to deliberately choose between each charge and missing a full charge can have a chance for the user to lose a lot of firepower if the ammo runs out. now you can spam them willy-nilly without much thinking. Laser rifles, for example (will bleed from problem 2), get 25% buff with 20B gen and add the stagger multiplier, which is absurd. With a general health pool of 9KAP, getting hit with two 800-damage shots is very significant. - Ricochet mechanic is by far the biggest offender for this game, especially when it's tied to part's defense value. With the Bornis legs as an example, Hutasa said at 43:00 that the stats are ridiculous, and add the fact that the optimal range for most weapons in the game got cut significantly. Pretty much makes the lighter player have to go in and hope to god whatever high-damaging weapons the heavies carry never hit or like what was mentioned in the video, never engage and pepper with missiles.
Tonk is absolutely op lmao. Needs a defense nerf more than anything. There’s still a lot wrong with the game balance wise, despite it being in a better spot than launch. Still love the game though
We need custom lobbies. Not 1v1 and 3v3. We need 2v2. 1v5. Free for all. Etc. like we had in Gen 4. Thats what kept the community going. Ranked is whatever. Only way to fix it is with a different value system for the scoring

You want the opposite of what I want for a tank, nerf flight capability, increase ground speed, if they nerf the tanks legs again defense they won't feel like a tanks at all.
Hard agree with most of this, cannot wait for things like seamless co-op, and whatever fromsoft does with Armored Core in the future. Been taking a bit of a break from AC lately, I'll definitely get back into it soon.
Same I got into A rank and quickly realized my builds were gonna need changing. Used to playing like it's AC4. Just been work/sleep/work last month or so.
Players were banned. The ban hammer has been swung. It was also applied to those who had a purchased save file or a copied file from their friends. From back when some had their file corrupted. But the ban can be lifted for those with copy files, if a ticket is submitted to FROMSOFT, directly.
Any ranking system that uses cumulative points for wins/losses is still going to tier players based on total games played. As someone who doesn’t have much time to play, it sucks to know that even if I have a long undefeated streak, I’m still not going to have a chance to move up in rank.
I've ran into that Harris "one shot stun" cheat so many times. There is one specific player in the top 30 that I've seen use it. The other common cheat is increasing movement speed on tanks, I've seen bornemizza tanks moving at 400-500 speed fully decked out with heaviest parts on it. Copying their build doesn't get me anywhere near as fast.
I think that's less of a cheat and more of a movement exploit. From what I've heard it's a technique popularised by player Takefumi Arisawa. He explains stuff in this video: ruclips.net/video/F5k_dni9ars/видео.html
Im aware of this technique, what I saw was just regular air thrust, didnt seem to assault boost or strafe at the time. I'll have to record my games next time. I really wish Fromsoft would introduce a replay mechanic right after the match just to review my mistakes and such. Would be a huge help to players trying to get better
Haven't watched the video yet, but from my experience being that this ranked season was my first time doing PvP, I believe the biggest problem regardless of meta or non-meta builds is that LW pilots such as myself are punished for trying to be agile. Lightweight AC's have no real advantage, our one and only defining trait is agility which is made redundant thanks to hit registration. Going up against a heavyweight AC puts me in a difficult position to begin with as I have to put in three times the amount of effort than them to win, the challenge is not just the difference in armour but the weapons as well meaning that I can only win by outmanoeuvring the opponent. I have taken a break from PvP for the last couple weeks and I am hesitant to return, all I wanted was to get to S-rank just once and then I would be satisfied, but I got locked in A-rank because no matter how well I pilot, outmanoeuvre or evade I will lose most of my matches. It is a bit demoralising to lose match after match because my AC is being damaged and staggered by projectiles that are not even close. This is my only real gripe with the current state of PvP, personally, I don't think it will ever be "balanced". There are too many components to consider, and there will always be someone who dislikes what they are up against.
ah man, lance tank, back in the 1.01 days in custom lobbies when tanks were super strong compared to lightweights and mediums we'd do some boss fight scenarios where someone runs a heavy tank with a lance and a scutum and a couple other big weapons and the other player uses a lightweight in cqc trying to fight it. The lance would miss a lot and the scutum shuts down after an attack for an opening, it was neat seeing the big telegraphed attacks that would just delete you if you get hit by them. Had some matches where the lightweight ran out of ammo against the scutum tank too.
As huge of a fan of this gane as i am, shadow of the erdtree definitely needs to be fromsofts maim focuse. Im a life long fan of tgis game now, but elden ring is what gave them the weight to be able to really bring this game into a new light. And i think there's a bit of a symbiotic relationship between the 2 games
Update melee PA interference stat against shields from ~145 to 250. Rebalance PS and PB shield y swapping their heat deploy stat, speed up SEVERAL melee weapons animations. Lower large laser weapon damage, And here is the big one.... rebalance weight to speed formula to allow midweights to kite heavies and catch up to lightweights. This should also slow heavy bipeds vertical kite, slow lamm kite even further or severely increase en usage,
@@charlestalbotrice2007 part of the lightweight issue may just be the over dominance of nach/alula pairing. The alula taking a boost nerf would go a long way to encouraging the bst for kiting. As it stands the alula is too dominant in too many areas and completely shutting out so many other boosters.
Before I even listen, these are the things that I would like to see come to PvP: Cross-Platform, have small maps only for singles and large maps only for 3v3, tanks shouldn't be able to equip pulse/assault/terminal as the already have an inflated defense/stability to compensate and adding an extra 3k to their health poor. These are just some of the changes I would like to see. Edit: I forgot about quitters because I haven't had that happened to me all much.
Tanks should be restricted to no weapons, kicks only. WTF are you on about lmao they just need ap/stability readjustments and I don't think they're that far off from what they should be
I like the changes Colton mentioned except for the tank having no expansions. If you hate it that much, just have a pulse gun. It's not even the tank probably that's messing you up, it's just unbalanced weapons they have
they need to fix hit boxes on all the back lasers and energy weapons. the constantly swapping laser builds are broken and impossible to dodge even on super light builds
Idk if anyone else has this problem, but I try playing ranked and cant ever get a lobby? At least in ranked 3v3 I literally never get placed in a match
It really does kinda blow that they are kinda slowing down with the balance patches on top of being left with glaring issues. Like the laser swap shenanigans build is pretty obnoxious. Nerfing vientos was justified but not buffing other pistols kinda hurts seeing close range lightweights overall. They nerfed jvln beta but it’s still seen everywhere cuz it’s still weird with it’s tracking. I really hope the next patch in May has less misses in it.
I would just like to be able to play team ranked without having to wait an hour+ for a match. I play custom games but unfortunately when I play them people leave or there's more waiting for people to join. I enjoy the game. The campaign is good and I would definitely welcome some dlc. I just want some ranked team. Also give a quit match option that allows people to leave a match but provides the non quitting players all the benefits of a victory but if you choose to quit with this option you don't have the penalty of a loss. The exception being promotion phases where it would count as a loss regardless.
I played against the player on pc with the "irregular" nameplate a few weeks ago hah. They were using a mlt04 lcb tank, and safe to say, I didn't stand a chance

With regard to builds and navigating offmeta vs meta parts, some of the most frustrating discussions I've had across a variety of games have been with people who are so deeply committed to avoiding anything "meta" that they end up making themselves miserable. At some point you cross the boundary from "not following the crowd" into "insisting on making only bad build decisions" and it's tragic but completely unsurprising when people who trap themselves in that kind of a headspace end up angry at others and the game. IMO the healthy way to go about finding a build that is *yours* is what's described a couple times in your podcast - work from a certain piece of equipment or a concept that defines your playstyle, and then take the best options available to help make that happen. If you think a certain thing is cool, even if it's arguably bad, you can still figure out a way to play to its strengths and try to make it work. It might still be suboptimal, but if you strive to make it as strong as possible while focusing on the element you like, you have good chances of ending up with something you'll enjoy piloting and holds its own decently to boot.
For a good example my favorite melee weapon is the stun baton. Yes its a bad melee weapon and worse then almost every other melee weapon however i make it work. Sure sampus arent meta but i make it work with a much more meta classic BVO frame but mind alpha core and internals are very standard for the style.
