Hi Barry, a great informative video and I agree with you on Flieshman locomotives. I bought new the Class 94 a 0-10-0T ( nick named the black buffalo ) forty years ago and it even had working lights then. I unfortunately sold it off with a large amount of my stock in order to fund my passion for ‘O’ gauge, It was the one I really missed. Five years ago A & H models had an ‘O’ gauge Class 94 by LENZ that I purchased for
£ 1,125.00 ( with 10% off ) it included 29 DCC sound functions and smoke. I normally build all my models like Brittania and Princess but the 94 has so much detail and it’s a brilliant model. Regards from Ron 👍✔️😃

    Many thanks for this Barrie.
I've often wondered what Fleischmann locos are like in comparison to some of the UK stuff (some of which is excellent but some is at the other end of the scale - eg my Sir William Stanier which lost 3 bits as I took it out of the box!), so your recent videos of Fleischmann locos are very useful. I'm now tempted to buy one!
Also nice to see the appearance of Alfie and Holly, too.
Thank you - and I wish you much health and happiness.
    Best wishes
    Peter

Apparently the white rings painted on the German buffers was a hang over from a wartime black-out practice where the headlights were cowelled and less visible, just like we used to paint white lines on the front of cars in the blackout. It became a habit to continue to paint the buffers, even unofficially, as a tradition up to the 70s. There is a story, maybe a myth, that when the practice was officially stopped, workers would sneak into the engine sheds at night to paint the buffers!

These are 4 cylinder compound locomotives with a massive one piece cast cylinder block. That is why the counter weights are so small.
The driving rods are visible through the wheels if you know where they move. They are often done on 01.10's and 03.10'stoo but not on a 44, as that last one has way smaller wheels that makes anything below the boiler invisible.
For the weight... the whole boiler is practically filled with metal. As this one has a decoder there is a weight in the firebox that doubles as a heatsink.
Price levels are in the 600 euro range for a brand new one
There is one Br18 currently operating, that one is based in Nordlingen and is painted in the original Bavarian green.

Hello Barrie I have taken the leap and ordered a Fleischmann Class 78 74075 I see it takes traction tyres are these likely to be a problem to get ?

No problem; 'Gaugemaster' are Fleischmann Agents and can get spares. But trust me you won't need them.
