    I want to share the story of my mother. She has had breast cancer in 1985, when she was 44. Her own mother died from breast cancer in the age of around 60. So she decided against chemo and radioactive treatment. Let amputate her breast and then she was fasting for 40 days with water, teas and vegetable juices, lost nearly 40 pounds. And afterwards every year, she was fasting two times a year, for one or two weeks, except the last 10 years. Now she is 81 and still healthy and fit. She was working till she was 78 and is my inspiration.

    This man is a gift to humanity. I got hooked on too much processed /sugary/salty/dairy foods and too much vino during COVID and couldn’t muster the willpower to break my “pleasure trap”. My husband has been a stage 2, insulin dependent diabetic for years, with stents and on statin drugs.
    His medically supervised water-fasting facility transformed both of us in no short order.
    I’ve kept those extra 15 pounds off for six months now, became 90% vegan and reduced wine consumption to about 3 glasses/week.
    My husband lost 35 pounds, is off insulin and statins and feels full of energy and stamina.
    While it’s a high bar to consistently live as clean as Dr. G espouses, even modest, gradual improvements and dietary changes yield noticeable results with benefits that vastly outweigh the pleasure trap addictions. Plus, I taste food more and eat more mindfully.

    Obesity and being overweight is the "new norm." I've noticed TV producers now feature more and more shows with overweight actors; commercials pushing their meds feature overweight people singing and dancing, showing that you don't have to lose weight to feel good - just take the meds. They know that putting heavy actors on our TV screen better represents society today. On the reverse side, putting extremely thin and "perfect" bodies on TV isn't the right answer either.

      All my childhood I suffered acne without dairy or cheese consumption but due to heavy consumption or ultra processed plant foods and refined stuff.
      Finally glad I introduced dairy as vegetarian instead of B12 supplements but again different people have different triggers who knows and most do t want to find a solution before they end up blaming one food group. My grandmothers not just one grandmother all their life they consumed good amounts of dairy as they kept their own cows had not one acne on their skin but again I am sure when they were young they were not exposed to processed food industry outside either.
      But not one mark on any of their faces all their lives even when they moved to big cities in old age. And literally all of them. They also did not have too much facial hair growth at all which is becoming common in many today.
      I wonder how pure compared to today was the quality of food and food produced then. God knows.

    The point on infant mortality is excellent. Most people miss that point and end up having an exaggerated view of our progress in life extension.
    To recap: The life expectancy chart is skewed because it includes infant mortality. If you remove infant mortality the chart dramatically improves the life expectancy for earlier historical periods. In the past, you had to live past early childhood to live an extended lifetime. People died in their 70's. Just look at the age of death for many famous early leaders. Many had several siblings that died shortly after being born. Including those infant and childhood deaths averages the life expectancy way down and does not accurately describe the heath experiences of those who made it to adulthood.

    I have done a lot of intermittent fasts and water only for several 24hrs, 3 days, 7 days, 10 days, 20 days, and 38 days genuinely water only, while exercising btw. Never felt tired, or like I had to work less or rest at all. The 38 day was supposed to be 40, but body hit a healing crisis and I panicked and started eating again. I am fully aware many people go well over 40 days and not all hit what is called or recognised as a "healing crisis". I would however consider a vitamin suppliment if attempting again.

    If fasting seems difficult for you it can take time to work up to longer water only fasts. You can start with intermittent fasting, limiting eating window to 4, 6 or 8hrs, and work towards one meal a day. Start doing that for 1 day. Then 3, then more. Next try a juice fast the same way. Then when you feel ready, try water only, first for a day, then as you realise you can easily do it with no actual hunger, do two or three days, then a week, or as long as you like. Start with whatever you feel is realistically achievable for you personally. It's progressively easier to extend a fast when you are confident you can do it with only benefits to your wellness, which is a journey you can explore for yourself.

      I don't know your issue, but i've had hair loss since very young. It's not always because of nutrient deficient, sometimes it can be androgenic alopecia, or telogen efluvium those sort of things. Of course having enough nutrient is important, but treating the cause of androgenic alopecia if you have it will get your hair back more than anything else.
      Treatement that worked for me are dermarolling + minoxidil + some massage that treat the root cause of your hair thinning.

    Do you think that juice fasting is a good alternative to water fasting if one needs to remain active?

    • @aclassmedicine3306
      @aclassmedicine3306 2 года назад +2

      As the good doctor explained it is not a true fast if someone is ingesting anything other than water. Even herb teas are full of compounds with physiological effects. Juice is usually just devoid of the pulp, unless you use a blender, and end up consuming the whole food(s). Lastly, say you’re drinking a glass of fruit juice. Would you eat that much food without juicing it? The doctor mentioned the importance of even having leafy 🥬 greens when eating fruit to slow and or reduce the insulin spikes. A glass of apple juice needs several apples. Would you eat several apples in one sitting? Choose days you don’t have to be too active to do a water fast. If you’re getting dizzy it’s a bad sign. Rest, or break the real fast, with whole food.

    My husband had a triple-by-pass, he has dropped down to 130 lbs and you see his ribs under the skin, if he fast, he would starve to death. He needs to get healthy, but it's hard to gain weight with vegetables. He feels worse now than before the bypass.

    • @HemlockHollow
      @HemlockHollow 2 года назад +10

      Why is he only eating vegetables? He should be eating starches! Potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, oats, barley, farro, plus lentils and beans, ect. If he needs to gain weight he can eat low/no sodium breads without oil, whole grain pasta and other plant other foods that are higher in caloric density. He should also include 1-2 tablespoons of milled flaxseed every day. Zero reason to ever just live off vegetables. That's not healthy or sustainable.

    I fasted 80.5hrs. But had symptoms of electrolyte imbalance. I ate real salt, drank water, coffee, and herbal teas. No sweeteners. Why did I feel like my body had no strength to talk or move??? I am easily 30lbs over weight and just turned 38 if that means anything.🤷🏼‍♀️ thanks for any useful help.

      I don't know the answer unfortunately. I would look at a few things: how is your diet when not fasting. Is kidney function OK? Coffee can be pretty hard on the system, including adrenals. Maybe substitute black or green tea if really need caffeine. If you can't do complete rest, could you get some extra help for fasting days? Too much salt can instigate imbalances too, consider using electrolytes on non-fasting days and avoiding on fasting days. Good luck.

    If fasting is difficult for you, you consume too much sugar/carbs overall. Try eating greens, beans and nuts instead of fruits and grains.

      That's wise advice. We hear how important grains & fruits are, however, both elevate insulin levels and thus increase hunger. I'm normal weight and am able to go long periods without eating since I abstain from these two food groups. I'm hoping it makes a difference in my triglycerides as well. Thank you for your comment.

    Genetics plays a big part in life expectancy. On my father’s side, his mother died at age 96, his Dad died at age 103 and he died at age 90 only because he chose to starve himself after my mother died. For the large part of their lives they lived on a farm without eating processed foods.

      careful with units ...
      You just suggested that on a diet of 2000kcal you can safely eat 2000g of salt instead of 2g which you probably meant. Which is still very high for an SOS free diet.
      2000kcal = 8374kj so more than 8g of Salt if you would take that serious which is definitely too much.

    What causes the facial structure changes I see in some vegans? I'm not trying to be mean, but I see it in several vegans I follow. I am interested in more plant based whole foods and eat less and less animal products as I go, but I'm not sure about transitioning completely. This is a big red flag for me intuitively and I'd like it to be addressed honestly and realistically without defensiveness or anger please.
