You are a gentlemen and a scholar sir! My friend and I saw all of your uploads last Saturday morning and LITTERALLY declared a hobby day ALL day while watching all your awesome new vids for Horus Heresy! My gaming group and I (roughly 10 bros) are all getting into HH now that it is coming out in plastic, already have 2 boxes and both rulebooks pre-ordered at my local gaming store!
I can actually see the best defense being useful. So listening to the video again it seems like the counterattack takes place once the triggering unit has completed its move which means that ideally it would be in response to something crashing into your line. If that’s the case it’s going to be fairly close which is perfect for a counter assault unit mixed in amongst your line to intercept
In several games with the leaked playtest rules, it's been a gamechanger: Shut down a big squad getting close to shoot, take away the incoming unit's charge bonuses, get really close and use it to charge without risk of overwatch, etc.
I’m really liking this rule. This rule kinda approximates a great scene in The Solar War where some breachers hold the line against the Sons of Horus before the templars countercharge just as the Sons are closing in.
Hey I’m I reading that right it says any model that can take a heavy flamer that is infantry that’s is a Imperial fist can take the unique assault cannon sooo legion heavy weapon squad?
'The Stone Gauntlet' Rite of War is slightly disappointing now. In Horus Heresy 1.0, this rule used to apply to units equipped with Boarding Shields (Breachers & Phalanx Warders), as well as those equipped with Storm Shields & Terminator Armour (Legion Terminator Squads & Independent Characters such as Centurions, Consuls & Praetors). In addition, the aforementioned squads also benefited from an additional +1 Toughness. The same limitations as the current rules apply, had to be met, in order to receive all these benefits. Losing the +1 Toughness bonus really changes the dynamics of this Rite of War, as before you had Breachers & Terminators who were all Toughness 5, meaning that Instant Death only applied to Strength 10 weapons. Having units that ignored Instant Death from Krak Missiles & Battle Cannons was great, especially with the addition of an Apothecary, who's Feel No Pain save could be rolled against all but the heaviest weapons!
I thought so too and for the most part it is nerfed, but with phalanx warders they have a 5++ with is increased to a 4++ because of their rule and in stone gauntlet that is now rerollable. Mathematically speaking that improves it to a 75% pass right which is even better that the 66.66% pass rate of a 3++. In addition to that they gain heart of the legion so they will get a 5+ fnp within 6" of an objective which, if you have an apothecary in the unit is improved to a 4+ fnp (as heart of the legion says it improves the fnp by one if they would already have it). Meaning that Phalanx warders will have a 4++ rerollable followed by a 4+ fnp which is an 87.5% pass rate. Now they wont get their fnp against anything S8 or higher, or insta death but it's really good. Add on to it that they are a perfect body guard unit for Dorn or other characters as if they get charged the whole unit, not just the boarding shield models get +1 ws provided they meet the requirements, and the whole unit in general gets that +1 invuln save mentioned earlier, not just the boarding shields, meaning that Dorn will have a 3++, and on the turn he is charged be WS9, plus charging Dorn means you have to take a disordered charge. So you DO NOT want to charge Dorn while he is in a unit of Phalanx warders with stone gauntlet, especially within 6" of an objective. You can also modify it even more if you wanna play around with some stuff like adding fafnir rann to make them suffer auto hits when they charge or a model with rad grenades to lower their T on that first turn. Personally I plan on getting in people's faces, especially if I can do it within 6" of an objective, and dare them to charge me.
Anthony Saul’s has the right if this and, judging by the community response, players are really struggling going up against the stone gauntlet. The RoW is by no means unbeatable but, right now, it’s still one of best RoWs in the game.
@@andykopach4718 I didn't even think about that. I was thinking that the reroll is only for phalanx warders but it isn't it is for models with boarding shields. Yo, ouch that is mean lol
That consul that gives line to heavy support sounds like a sick allied detachment leader. Just a buncha fists with big bolters supporting an assault legion. Is that legal?
One of the reasons why Huiscarls aren't in Liber Astartes is to do with the fact that they don't have 'official' miniatures yet. Liber Astartes & Liber Hereticus only cover units which have currently existing models. GW have stated that they will be releasing rules for them, as was mentioned earlier in this thread.
Yeah they used to be amazing. But in this edition they're pretty shit. At least they became compulsory in stone gauntlet now, not that that rite of war is any good.
@@GIGroundNPound yeah they're not looking to good from this initial look. Dorn got good, polux got worse, rann remained the same but is nerfed because of stone gauntlet nerf. Warders are kind boring objective campers. Templar brethren still suck, even more so now with no ap2 melee weapons or ID melee weapons outside of the sarge. The solarite gauntlet kind got buffed. Assault cannons got a slight buff but are too expensive. The castellan is great. The warlord traits look alright. Our reaction is fucking garbage. Stone gauntlet looks pretty boring and meh. Templar assault is meh/crap and hammerfall is even worse. Oh and due to the challenge changes sig is fucking trash.
@@jackcordiner6879 Hopefully, these issues will get addressed soon....I'm excited for the 2.0 release as a whole, but a bit bummed out by the VIIth's rules...
Phalanx Wardens use to have to be upgraded to take power axes as they can wide range of options really looks like GW is stripping those options away. Such a shame. I mean I legit can not use any more my Reavers for my Sons of Horus in the new edition. Great video thou, it is just a shame that GW has gutted Horus Heresy.
@@glenDLGV so my reavers are armed with chain axes, volkite chargers and jump packs. And the other squad is armed with bolters, options that are no longer allowed. Alot of units in 2.0 lost options from 1.0
some units, yes. But as the other guy mentioned: instead of having to give up your gun for the axe, warders just get it now, plus they kept every other option they had from 1.0. GW generally just got rid of options that didn't exist model-wise.
From how I'm understanding it will best be used to keep your gunline alive. Hide a pretty good cqc killy unit near your line, when enemy approaches pounce on them and hopefully kill them before they damage your gun line.
Slowly making my way through all of these videos, in no particular order. Just wanted to say, nice job! Thanks for doing this...

Not much makes senses but I do love painting yellow
First Captain Sigismund is a total beat-stick when it comes to hunting enemy Characters & Independent Characters!
I like the flavor of ignoring the army building and victory point rules

It still applies to all models with boarding shields? unless i'm misunderstanding.

Any way to use or ally Sigismund into an Ultramarines army?

Has a red fist
Kills things with said fist extremely easily

So sad phalanx wardens are not 2 wounds and dont have 2 attacks. Seems pretty bad compared to veterans.
