- This is a quick video on how to install lawn edging, I am using a product called bend-a-board that I bought from home depot. There are many different ways to install an edger and this is the method that I prefer. It’s pretty simple to do, so give it a try and let me know on the comment section below.

Did you find any pieces smaller than 16 or 20 ft for transport?
My soil is rock hard. I’m trying to remove the turf and start this process, but it’s proving impossible. Any tips on making the dirt easier to work with?
You can water it really good 16-24hrs prior to working. That should soften the dirt.
In North Fort Worth it's nothing but rocky dry soil. A pick axe is a great tool to use standing over the trench and digging as well as SCLs suggestion of watering. It's taking me forever to dig. I also used a flat shovel sideways to just remove the grass. SLCs comes up easy, mine would not. But it worked. I am thinking of perhaps getting a soaker hose and lay over where I need to dig to get a deep soak. That should work if the ground is just dry. I noticed where my sprinkler heads are located it's easy--er! I only have about 40'. LOL. BUT I WILL GET IT DONE! One rock was about 14"x 8" that I had to dig up. It's going to look great once done, but I knew it was going to be laborous too going in.
It wont fix it 100% but some liquid soil conditioner will help you get further down
This video is very satisfying. Thanks and looks great 👍
You did a great job. I liked the tip regarding placing a depth mark on the spade.
Wow man so simple and looks great I’m definitely doing that.
Love your yard, just wish my soil was that easy to dig tho
Thanks 👍🏼
Looks great. Only problem I see with it is you now have a place for weeds to one in. Might have been better to fill it with landscape rock or bark.
Thanks 👍🏼 the key to a good yard/lawn is maintenance, weeds will grow in the middle of a perfect lawn if you let it. Weeds have grown on that area and I just simply pluck it as I see it.
So, in retrospect, how do you feel about pushing the board 1/2" _below_ grade? Did it work out as you anticipated or do you wish you would have had it project up above grade a little?
Works great for me. I mow over the edge with my reel mower, I won’t be able to do it if the board is sticking above grade. 👍🏼
@@ShortCutLawn Thanks!
Also depends on the height you cut your lawn at
@@ShortCutLawn Great! so if I keep my zoysia lawn at 2 inches high and I want it to look like your lawn how much of the board should be above ground? 1 1/2 inches or 1 inch?
Where did you by the bend-a-board?
Home Depot and Lowes carries it.
This is by far the smartest way to do it thanks for sharing your expertise
The grass looked fine....
How well does it bend? Wondering how I can get it home form the store in my 5' truck bed.
It bends pretty well, I think I was able to coil it to a 4’ diameter.
Excellent job kind sir ! :)
What’s up with the seat wall block?
It’s a work in progress, still have to cut it to shape and glue it on.
Need to install myself so I watched. Where did you get the stakes you used. I need to get them. Wonderful video
Lowes and HomeDepot 👍🏼
nice, thanks
Do you have a link for the board kit?
I just added it on the video description.
I would have to add nice color rock, baby tears, or flowers, to make life difficult LOL
You would have a heart attack with my extremely rocky soil. It sure isn't pristine the way your dirt came out and how you blow the dirt out of the grass afterward. What a pain for rocky soil.
where online I can purchase this board? is this HP Bender board? also, how high is this board? 4 inches or 6 inches? thank you!
Thank you! Here in suburban Colorado, everyone seems to use metal edges. The metal is now bent, slightly deformed in a hundred different places every 20-50 feet. It also has a tendency to sink easily if pressed by stepping or mowing, and I think the sunken metal then cooks the grass in the summer. The thin, metal edging solution would also seem a hazard for playing. Either way, it's not a good-looking, long-term solution. This is perfect!
Thank you, it is indeed simple but the technique is there and the materials made everything easy to install. Thank you.
I have done very similar with Woodglut designs.
Wish I had you around my house, but I'm sure you are far away !! thanks for video
Great instructional video. Thanks
Damn you are a perfectionist! Love it!
Great idea ! Now get my husband to do these things !😄he says I’m a slave to my house lol
Your lawn and project look great! So if I keep my zoysia lawn at 2 inches high and I want it to look like your lawn how much of the board should be above ground? 1 1/2 inches or 1 inch? or I have to place the board below the turf, maybe 1/2 inch so I can mow over it?
Yes 1/2” if you want to mow over it.
The more you have this board buried the less chance of it warping in hot days.
I personally never experienced it warping but others have, I think they are setting it too high.
Thank you that looks clean.
Superb edging.. but, I think you should have coveted the blank area with some flowering plants...
It’s coming my friend, i’m thinking annuals will do the trick.
Excellent work.
Beautiful.
Thanks Brett 👍🏼
Nicely done!
Love this!
Great job 👍👍👍
Here in missouri i would have had to blast through all the damn rocks after taking the grass out lol
I tilled the crap out of it last year when I prepped the soil for seeding, luckily no big rocks 👍🏼
Very lucky! I wish my soil was nice...id have a super nice yard too. But i dont lol
A big visual (and functional) improvement. I've haven't heard of Bend A Board. Good stuff sir!
Thanks Koven 👍🏼
Looks like its just composite decking like the Trex stuff.
@@Brettsgrasscapades oh yeah, it does seems almost identical. I know that stuff doesn't mind being in the dirt, I found some the must have been buried for 10 years and it was fine.
Yeah it’s exactly like the one for decking but this one is a lot thinner and flexible.
@@ShortCutLawn hmm that's cool man!
Nice work!
Is that deck board or what type of board are you using. Thank you I just like and subscribed!
It’s made out of recycled plastics, it’s called bend a board from HomeDepot. Thanks for the sub Tom 👍🏼
Its similar like the deck sometimes i used them. 😆
Where did you buy this boards at? Home depot?
Yessir 👍🏼
Thanks! Enjoyed your channels a lot!
looks amazing
Thanks Vaughn 👍🏽
Attention to details nice work I’m a DIY guy always looking for good ideas n different ways 🤙🏽
👍🏼
Sure looks easy when you have pure cow manure for soil. Looks great!
It’s all native soil, neighborhood was an old swamp i was told.
So did you ever finish this project?
The "flat shovel" referred to in the video is actually not a shovel at all. It's properly referred to as a 'spade,' sometimes also called a 'garden spade' because it's been a favored tool of gardeners for centuries. Also, I would have used a sacrificial scrap piece of one-inch pine (or whatever) over the plastic to keep from damaging it with the hammer. I know, I know -- "Another comments section know-it-all." Hah! Thanks for the video. Have never heard of this product. It's on my list to check out next time I'm at The Home Depot. And you do know it's correctly written with the definite article -- THE Home Depot --- don't you?
