The tops were removable, just like the jeep cj hardtop. It was just the back half.

I had a 1990 XL. Manual transmission. Did not have pushbutton 4x4 thankfully. When you're young and not much money that's what you can afford. Loved that thing, drove all over the 4x4 tracks of WA. Got hit by a semi while driving to work one day. Saved my life. Unfortunately was trashed after that.

@@bobbybrandnew3277 Being young and not as experienced as I am today (ha), I did get stuck once and needed to get towed out. For the most part pretty solid for what it was. Having a differential lock on the rear, different tires, etc, would have boosted the capabilities significantly as you would imagine.

I have to disagree with you, the fiberglass top does comes off the Bronco. In '92 and later it was discouraged, the taking off of the top because of the backseat seat belt configuration and safety concerns. But you could still take it off. I owned a '91 and drove around a lot with the top off. Now I have an '89 and and still drive around without the top. It's AWESOME!!

I drove a number of Broncos from that era, Customs and XLTs. They were fleet vehicles. The 90-91s were vinyl with rubber mats. 302s under the hood with automatics. We got manual hubs - might have been auto hubs by the time the 95s came around. The 302 was adequate for most driving but a 351 would have been nice. That’s a nice specimen.

They had auto hubs in 1990. I had one. 302 v8. 5 speed manual. Lever 4x4 shift on floor. XL model. No floor mats and cloth seats. First new car I owned. $20k off the lot

Perfect sized Bronco. Also the 60s Scouts seemed even more industrial than the 60s Bronco to me. Always banged elbows and things on exposed metal all over.

I know the Ranger used an 85 MPH Speedometer up until 1994.

I’ve got a 1990 Eddie Bauer with the 351. The top is a pain to get off by myself, just due to the weight, but I do it all the time. Wait for a decent 1-2 week stretch of weather forecast and take the top off. I keep a tarp in a storage box in the back just in case there is a surprise rain shower. And putting it back on by yourself is much easier than taking it off.

Yup, 1990 model year with the VIN (from the HOC website) for the win:
1FM for US made Ford MPV, E for 6,001 to 7,000 # GVWR, U15 for Bronco, N for 5.0L (302 CID) V8 with fuel injection, 4 is a check digit, L for the 1990 model year, L for Michigan Truck Assembly (Michigan) and the rest is the production sequence. The Michigan Truck plant opened in 1957 and still operates today as Michigan Assembly.
We got the tag, we can brag: YC for Black exterior paint, 105 for the wheelbase of the truck in inches, U15 for Bronco, NJ for Bronco MPV, T for four speed automatic overdrive transmission, 19 for 3.55:1 rear axle ratio, locking type, Ford manufactured, and DSO of 11 for Boston, MA sales office.
No, the Bronco II was a three door, not a four door. The Explorer that replaced it in 1991 came as a four and two door over the course of time.

W for Raven Black delamination, T for review mirror delete, F for B.F. Goodrich wannabe tires

The Bronco II was a two door, unless your counting the rear hatch as a door. If that's the case then the Explorer came as a five and three door.

I solved the muddy look by buying a beige 4x4 back in the 80's.
The paint just looked lumpy once the swamp mud dried.

Always lock the hubs before you get into trouble. If you wait as he says its usually to late. And you won't get dirty. And people complaining about getting out of the truck to lock the hubs are lazy.

Front end styling of that generation not my favourite but certainly better looking than any late-model truck.

Ummm Mr. Magnante! 6:16 That top is held on with some easy to remove bolts and the top come right off. Takes a few minutes and a friend and your topless. Only in 93 did Ford add safety torques but those can be removed just as easy.
