1980s - Class 58s at work in the Midlands

  • The Class 58 loco represented something of a significant departure from the previous designs of British locomotives. Introduced into serviced in 1983, these locomotives (50 in total) were designed primalily for heavy freight yet at times worked a wider variety of turns. Here are a handful of examples of workings in and around Coventry and Coalville in Leicestershire taken in the late 1980s.

      @@foretrak I think they haven’t over done the styling: girder frames supporting easy access to the equipment compartment, engine, cooler group etc and nice big plain cabs. I wonder why they didn’t last longer?
