It really enhances the stereo spread of the drums and mix. It almost feels like a maximiser with subtle saturation thrown on it. And I loved the calibration and noise sounds. But the delay was BEAUTIFUL. It sounded like actual tape loop delay and not like how tape delay plugins claim they sound like. But then again, their previous lo-fi tape emulator is one of the best sounding ones ever, so this doesn't surprise me they hit this one out of the park
I really wanted to like it, but after placing it across every track in my session, it sounded lo-fi and grainy, felt the same-ish way about Chow Tape. IK Tape Machine 80, on the other hand, blew my mind. UAD Studer is a close second.
@@flavmusicman Hey I'm back. I'm using AD drums 2.5 as I said, starting from the Studio Prog kit, Rocker preset, but changed the snare to a 14x5 DW Collector's Copper, it has that smashing sound. To build the tone I like I use many things, I can make a video explaining in detail, but here we go: Kick: FG-Stress, or any distressor compressor, followed by a pultec and an API EQ, always smiley face Snare: This one is the most heavy processed, the dry signal sounds very different to what you heard. I use the Purple Audio MC77 first, slow attack and fast release, getting around -5 of GR. I went CLA then with an SSL E, boosting 15db on 8khz, 9db on 200hz and 3db around 4.5khz. Finally I used the Tape J37 to reduce the dynamic range of the snare, and to add subtle color. Finally, the whole drums go through a Fairchild 670 emulation, very heavy compression, almost -7 db of GR, but it's on parallel, around 45% wet. All that goes to a Bass/Drums bus, where I get a SSL 4000 G summing plugin, and the Avalon 747sp without compression, but with a smiley face EQ on the graphical. It seems a lot, but if I just told you the presets of AD the sound won't even be close Hope this helps!
@AlexReidStudios Wow Alex really apreciate the time you took to lay down how you got that sound I do have that kit and yes the presets sounds nothing like the sound you got, I am sure viewers will apreciate a video on that , one will come to see your take on the J37 and will get hooked on that drums sound ,will definitely try it out ,have a great one my friend and keep on the great channel 🔥🔥🔥
@flavmusicman Lol yeah, and tbh I'm pretty proud of the tone I acgieve, it was a long process. I figured I explain in detail as the processing is big part of the sound, specially on the snare. I've used similar process on other drums and got nice results. I love smashing drums. Gonna make something :)
ok it's a Studer.. like Universal Audio's with different tape options (again like AU's) ...but I guess cheaper? I mean nowadays we have so many emulations of the same stuff it's unbelievable...
Very different machine. A tube based studer from the 1950’s. The UAD studer is much more hifi, being a solid state machine from the 1980’s that is one of the highest fidelity multitrack machines ever made.
As RUclips's encoding doesn't respect too much of audio, I suggest you demo both, but tbh maybe it's not that much better. I do like the Arturia one better
Waves’ analog emulations were once all that was out there, but other manufacturers have since significantly surpassed their quality. I’ve no doubt this is worth the extra cash if you are specifically comparing the two to find your go-to tape machine emulation.
first of all the mask makes me cringe. maybe thats my autism. and why would giving accurate information ruin the review? it makes the review much more interesting. and also it's pronounced stoo- der

@@buckycore Agree! The delay sounds beautiful
It certainly sounds very nice on the examples you showed.
How does it compare to Airwindows ToTape8 though? Because that one's not only frikken amazing, but also free...
ToTape keeps being on my top 3 for sure

@@NovianLeVanMusic Well, tastes differ, and that's okay! I find that ToTape8 tends to make, well, everything sound better...
@@matthijsheblyYou’ve inspired me to play around with it some more!
Very nice drums sound, what drums you are using?
Addictive Drums :). I can check the specific kits if you want
Yes please, that would be greatly appreciated 🙏been looking for that type of drums sound, also the Arturia tape is 🔥

It would be cool to see an Arturia Studer A800 emulation, the king of tapes.
@@maxterwel The one from UAD is pretty affordable when on sale
Does this offer the 20 minute demos ?
It should, I think yes
Cool review and dig the mask 👊
Thank you :)
This is cool because I do not want to have anything to do with Waves
Por que você não gosta da waves?

50 bucks ? there tausend tape plug in out 😂😂😂 snoking there weed
Check out the Fuse Audio Labs TCS-68 sometime if you like tape flavours
Will do
I like the mask, keep doing your thing.
Thank you :) that means a lot
Ok Batman
Could it really be $50 better than the Waves version?
anything to get away from waves

@@NovianLeVanMusic I hate Waves but that plugin is highly regarded.
Being 12 years newer, yes.
50 bucks and I already have FX 5. Hard pass for me.
@@SUNKINGME Better to wait for FX 6 and see what else they add
Yeah, I think 50 bucks as a promo for existing FX5 users is too much. 30 to 40 as an intro price would be more in the impulse buy area.
I think i tend to prefer the kind of tape plugins that arent trying quite as hard to perfectly match anything in particular.
Just saying: it is pronounced Studer like in "Studio". Not like in "Study".
Thanks
not by me^^.... I don't care about tape
No one cares about you not caring
