You can use a Serato box + mapping (just look for that here on YT). But officially with NHL controls (full compatibility)... from the NI side I hardly doubt they're interested on bringing a discontinued product to life (this mixer is not in production anymore since Q1 2022, according to an administrator or moderator in the official NI forums)

This is pretty awesome... I'd def like to see more Traktor controllers like the X1 and F1 supported... Or better yet... The S11 natively supported on Traktor since Traktor will always hold a special place in my heart
You can use the S11 with traktor. I use it, I had to buy a mapping for it though from traktor mappings
Thanks mojaxx for your commitment , as a long time exclusive Traktor user only this may be the reason to look into serato if they support the s4 mk3
Now THAT’s such a power move from Serato, probably not officially supported by Native Instruments though, might be just serato dipping their toes in to see if NI reacts, as a response to the new traktor software
Naw it’s a midi controller - communicates through midi. Most other dj software and even non dj software can work with NI controllers. It was more of a limitation on the serato end on not working with midi controllers until now.
@@DJPeterLo I thought the NI controllers where mostly HID, and uses the controller editor software to assign Midi-messages to the knobs and faders, which again was the reason the NI-controllers didn’t work with serato out of the box?
@@AndreSjoberg nope. It’s worked for other dj programs and other midi-accepting software in general. This was previous gatekeeping on serato.
@@DJPeterLo I know traktor controllers have worked with other dj software and midi software, but only after remapping the tractor controller signals to midi using the controller software since the signals from NI are HID-signals, not native midi signals? The S4mk1 was a proprietary heap of shit and no midi, from the mk2 they had a midi mode, but you still had to remap things to work with other software - if serato now has out of the box support for a traktor device (only the s2mk3 and one more as far as I can see) making it much easier to flip it looks like they are starting to see the value of trying to snatch traktor users
@@DJPeterLo The S2 and S3 are HID controllers, not MIDI. They have a MIDI mode, which can be activated by holding a button while turning them on, but this is not the behaviour seen in Serato DJ (meaning they mapped them with HID). You're just wrong here

The original X1 released in 2010 had official Serato support and even a Serato overlay (a plastic sheet with different labels for the buttons) in the box.

About time the closed systems open up.
That's part of the reason the recent bid by Alpha Theta to buy Serato failed. My guess is they will open it up to say that consumers from all brands will be able to use the new software and it won't be a monopoly.

will probably never happen - you can map it though. It is an obsolete piece of kit, so I doubt they will invest in it.
@@djLeBart The D2 is certainly long in the tooth, but I'm not sure its fair to call it obsolete. I believe with the wide spread adoption of stems, it now has a lot of new found life. Unfortunately, you might be right about Serato not wanting to invest the resources into them tho.

Call me old-fashioned, but there used to be mappings for practically every MIDI controller on the market for every DJ software.
DJ Tech Tools, Traktor Bible and a few others were well known for custom mappings, but the manufacturers also offered them.
Heat probably hasn’t gotten to them, it was 4 degrees overnight in Auckland, New Zealand, high of 16 today. ;-)
Good move honestly. I have older hardware so I haven't paid attention to Serato in a decade. More openness is welcome.

Seems to me like a response to the Alpha Theta situation. If they do this for all things Rekordbox and Traktor, I can see Serato being adopted by a lot more DJs.

Imagine if traktor started adding some new mappings for new hardware it would be like the good old days when there was TSI files for loads of hardware.All I need now is for faderfox the make some new controllers for traktor 4. NI need to take note here and map some new gear.

If you have a S2 MK3, the best budget controle, you have Traktor, Serato and DjayPro, the only missing one is Rekordbox. And you have the ultimate budget controler

Serato just put out a video announcing this. My considerations, because actually being the target group here:
I'm on a Traktor Kontrol S2 MK3 controller that came with Traktor Pro 3 DJ software included and I actually want to upgrade. Which leaves me now with the following options:
1. Go Serato DJ Lite for free. Is this really an upgrade though over Traktor Pro 3 DJ software? Sure Serato DJ Lite has a few newer features but misses out on a lot of essential Pro stuff that you already can find in Traktor Pro 3. Not to mention that the latter was purposely build to work with that software.
2. Go Traktor Pro 4. This is a single 75 euro/dollar upgrade for me that brings this software much more in line with its competition, including Serato.
3. Go Serato Pro. It still misses some Traktor Pro features that Serato only offers in its Suite version (lots of FX, DVS) but is also ahead of Traktor software in other departments. Except it's way more expensive though. Not considering even more expensive subscription options from Serato, it boils down to USD 249 for Serato Pro vs USD 75 for the Traktor Pro 4 upgrade.
4. Go Serato Suite. Feature wise this the Serato version could probably considered to be the most of a straight upgrade over what Traktor Pro can offer (still not in every department though). But it will cost you an insane USD 449 according to their website and the Traktor controller (which costs less) is still not optimal for it.
See my problem here. As much as I would be willing to take Serato in consideration with upgrading my current Traktor set up, it still really is a hard sell to switch platforms with this hardware, even with the new hardware support by Serato's latest version. Not to mention library export/import headaches and the hardware not being designed for Serato in the first place. So IMHO at best this update could be considered a move by Serato to try their Lite software on your current controller. If you really want to change platform though, you're probably better off buying a dedicated Serato controller that unlocks the Pro version of their software.
This move will probably not affect the traktor user base. Why would you quit a platform you love and you are used to. However it might increase hardware sales for NI. NI hardware is rock solid. I used to have an s4, an s8 and the D2s before i jumped to serato. I remapped the D2s for use with serato and used it for many years untill i swapped them for denon 6000s. Even after years of use and abuse on the road the NI hardware still looked very good. So for a backup controller I would choose an S2 over the pioneer ddj400 or flx4 ... the possibilities cramped in that little controller is an amazing deal
@@djLeBart Well you quit the Traktor platform to switch to Serato. And that while you can still appreciate the Traktor hardware. So maybe you are the type of user that Serato is going for with this update.
@@Drrolfski I switched to Serato for 1 reason ... soundswitch, otherwise I would still be playing with Traktor. But soundswitch is the only fire&forget lighting controller that gives me professional results with my lighting rig, without me intervening.
Besides that what I said NI controllers are top noth. I had Xone K2 controllers, but the rubber surface starts to desintegrate and becomes all sticky. The Pioneer SX2 is very sturdy, but you get wear & tear on the faders & certain knobs, which I never had on my NI controllers.
I wouldn't replace my DDJ1000 for an NI controller, but the s2mk3 is a very tempting backup solution.
NI allowed hardware to work on Serato because it unlocks an entire new market to which they can sell hardware to, beyond the existing Traktor hardware users, this simple agreement just sold them millions of more units.. my thoughts

thats my one wish. but pioneer would never because many people would go for that instead of the DDJ FLX 10 FLX 6 or even older ddj 1000 . no one uses the 4 channels that much.
@@mixx_factory hey. How have you been? Yes, you have a valid point there. They also still make the SR2. I'm not sure how much longer they will support it, but they still sell them new. One can dream, right? I tagged both companies in their post on X asking them to add this. At least make it function. it doesn't have to unlock Serato as they did with the S2 Mk3 and S3.
It's a strange move from NI after releasing Traktor Pro 4 and I was expecting new hardware from them but I'll take it !
Honestly, if Serato starts supporting the Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3, might have to bust that controller out from the storage and start using it for my mobile gigs again lol
If they could do this they should be able to make at the very least a stripped down version of serato DJ for their discontinued cards kinda like how Apple continued support for their older devices for so long with reduced features.
Hopefully Traktor will soon support the DJM S7 & S9 and the Rev 5 because there are no screens on those devices. Potentially the Rane One and the Rane 70 too.

Traktor: I’ll keep using you but give/build the sdk or whatever for other companies (Algoriddim) to give the s4 mk3 support

I wonder if Serato is going to Virtual DJ way... and try to work with more hardware. Only makes sense if you are a software only company. Also works out great for NI who can now sell more hardware too.

Pioneer ProDJ Link unlocked for all DJ software platforms! so the onboard beat FX that live in the mixer can receive beat grid info straight from the laptop! Pioneer said no to this idea at a meeting a few years ago as they wanted to keep this feature for the pro CDJ kit. I believe this wouldn't damage sales to the flagship range as clubs and festivals would still order the industry standard tech! By unlocking Pro dj Link to work with all DJ software platforms would generate tones more DJM sales to a much wider audience. Even if they just made it work with there own Rekordbox DJ software. In fact if Pioneer did this for RB DJ software they would clean up!

Unless i am missing something....I tried remapping a few basic things on a S3 with sdj 3.2.1 and it does not work.
Problem seems to be that the S3 does not show as a midi device anywhere on mac midi studio, nor on windows 11.
I found no relative info online yet.If anyone managed to map an s3, please share how and what to do
This just makes me feel like we should have had a Dj library standard and midi controller standard mapping since 2010 at least
There’s absolutely no reason for each software to have different library management and midi implementation for Dj controller should really be more simple

How about the crusial thing that misses Serato, a real quantize? You also mentioned that before. that smart cue is far from smart. How many years will take them to make something that every other software has ? A constant working sync/quantize.
Does this mean that midi mapping is now open without a serato controller plugged in? This is the biggest frustration that I have with serato.
I own a copy of serato dj pro (not just a hardware unlock) and the the midi mapping is only available if you have a serato comparable to controler plugged in, ie just to midi map a second controller.
Midi mapping needs to be enabled just work with anything.l if you have a full license.
I have to plug in a silly and toylike numark dj2go just to unlock this feature, this is ridiculous.
I don't need serato to do the mappings I can do that myself by writing an xml file. Please open up this feature serato.

I think pioneer DJ or alphateta or whatever is it called these days is hitting 2 birds with one stone here. Since they acquired serato a while ago there's no point in doing rekordbox gear only. Serato or recordbox is sold and used and monies goes to their pocket. As for Traktor controller support i believe they are going for the throat. Many will try serato on their traktor controllers and they might switch. Cost them little but they may get a new buyer in the future. And since it's done with the same update they can always say they never went after traktor as they added rekordbox controller support as well. Just my biased opinion thou. Anyone knows how's the stems on traktor now btw?
