Excellent video. I live in the greater NYC area and started my club DJ career in 1984. It's funny to think of it, but there were no fader mixers being used in clubs back then. All we had were Bozak & Urei mixers back in the day. The first fader based mixers hit circa 1985-ish. Most notably, the GLI 9000 & Rane MP 22 and clubs weren't quick to switch🙂.

Great video. Very interesting on the Condesa and definitely makes me want one. The layout and audio interface in the Euphonia were some of the biggest selling points as to why I bought one. Only mixer I've done an instant AB on compared to my Euphonia was with the Xone 96. And the Euphonia smashes it out of the park. I'd love to do an instant AB with a Condesa.

And before anyone comments my comment, my dream mixer is a mastersounds radius 4...

@@mk-421 yeah its just awesome, Ive had a lot of mixers in the past 30 years, and there are loads of other rotaries where I really love the sound, but they're just your typical 3x ISO, a 3-band EQ per chan and thats it.....the versatility of the MP2015 i'm yet to find in another rotary mixer, nowhere near it... set your eq on your sub channel and your ISO and just punch in and out per channel like a fully eq'd kill switch... nothing else gives you full EQ kill switch control per channel...96khz spdif if you want it, AND your classic rotary controls, AND it looks gorgeous. totally underrated I think.

    • @Reticuli
      @Reticuli 8 месяцев назад

@@DillioSmithers Could be just a bad IEC cable ground path. Change the power cable or instead ground the turntable to something else, like one of the other mixers plugged into power right next to it. If it's a ground loop, then it's on purpose, because you'd have to intentionally find another circuit in the room to plug it into. They shouldn't have been comparing vinyl like that, anyway. Pointless. Turntable wasn't even isolated, meaning the mixer with the tightest & loudest bass will get the most rumble unless the mixer has a high-pass filter.

Great vid Mojaxx. What I'd really like to see you do in the lab is a comparison between, say, the Alpha Theta and the Mastersounds valve mixer, or the Condessa when you get it... BUT... playing digital sources and playing dance music, and comparing the summing quality.. Since this is my (and most people's) use case. Can the Alpha Theta really hang with the analogue desks? Can these boutique desks bring extra magic to the still slightly sterile world of digital audio?

This test is like reviewing a LG G4 TV while watching A New Hope on VHS. Yes, I get the "vinyl sounds better than digital argument" back in early 2000's with low res DAC's and 16 bit processors. But come on, Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon on CD at 16bit / 44.100 is unparalleled in sound quality, even to a brand new vinyl pressing. 32bit float - 96khz is just ridiculous it terms of perceived audio clarity compared to 16/24 bit because at this point I don't believe anyone could hear the difference. But in short, vinyl records are absolutely mind blowing! I mean, it must be more amazing now (in 2024) to the younger generations to hear a piece of music carved into a vinyl disc.

A UREI 1620 of course, an old Numark 1750, Vestax etc. Would be your biggest video yet. Also suggest three to five records.. not just dance music. Set the standard upon which all others compare to. DJSTUFF has some comparison recordings available for some of these mixers (Warm, Model X, MS 2V, Euphonia, DJR400) which clearly highlights some of the differences; the Warm4 and 2V being the most natural, the Model X clearly lacking a lot of dynamic range, the Euphonia lacking some high end detail with the DJR400 being very crisp, a little harsh and unnatural -- just like Ortofon cartridges. If you're interested to hear some of this I'd suggest checking them out.

the omnitronic TRM -222 will be released in early June.
I've been waiting for it for a long time now, it's a very very beautiful rotary vfm mixer but I've already identified a very big negative, the crossfader doesn't turn off!
very negative thing and very annoying I don't like having a crossfader on a rotary mixer at all, it doesn't fit, the fact that you don't have the option to turn it off is terribly annoying.
      just for this issue I haven't decided, I'm between the trm-222 & the 422.
mojaxx we are anxiously awaiting a review of the new omnitronic TRM -222!

Yes I know some purists will balk at switch boxes as adding another level of flavouring on the signal. They do make life much easier if you own multiple amps/preamps.
RCF newer lines would've been a better speaker to use. Art 9 series shits over the 7's.

If you don't mind isolators in the signal path, the X1700 and especially the MP2015 sound way better, and the DB4 sounds a lot more analog than any digital DJ mixer Pioneer has ever produced. I think as a different flavor, though, all the Pioneer digital DJ mixers have a valid, alternative tonality. Even the DJM800, especially if you bypass the ADC and DAC stages on it, is a valid, hifi voicing, even if it's not quite as reference as some others. The first 900Nexus had a slightly different voicing, and then the NXS2, Tour1, and A9 have yet another voicing, and the V10 & Euphonia have yet another. All interesting flavors, but, yes, you're paying the Pioneer DJ vig.

It's easier to just compare the mixer in the path to the mixer not in the path to check its sound, not comparing mixer to mixer over some questionable setup. Better to use the CDJ as the source rather than vinyl, because the record wears as it plays on each mixer, the phono preamps have different capacitance loading, and because of rumble.
I'm surprised they didn't resolve the hum on the MP2015. Probably just a bad IEC cable. Change the cable or move the phono ground to one of the other mixers that's plugged into power. Unless someone plugged it into another power circuit, which would be sus.

Good video, but! The speakers used are good but hardly the best there is! And our ears are easily fooled especially in a room with sub par acoustics! And if five people listen to different mixers they probably often believe that the one that has the loudest output sounds the best even if its audio quality isnt the highest!

If only the Euphonia had a crossfader.

when you've a rotary mixer in front of you a crossfader shows itself as 'an unwelcome guest' ;)
