- Tim Duncan became the first player since Michael Jordan to win back-to-back regular season MVP honors ... ranked in the top 10 in points (seventh with 23.3), rebounds (third with 12.9), blocks (third with 2.93) and FG percentage (seventh with a .513 mark) ... of course the regular season was just a warm-up for Duncan ... in the postseason he averaged 24.7 points, 15.4 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.29 blocks in 42.5 minutes ... Duncan led the Spurs to their second NBA Championship in a five-year span and was named the 2003 Finals MVP (after averaging 24.2 points, 17.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 5.33 blocks in the Finals).
The Spurs Championship served as a perfect ending to a perfect career ... prior to the 2002-03 season David Robinson announced it would be his last ... his 14th and final season with the Spurs was a memorable one ... he finished his NBA career with 20,790 points and 10,497 rebounds making him one of just 12 players in league history in the 20,000 point, 10,000 rebound club ... a 10-time All-Star, Robinson was the 1995 NBA MVP, the 1992 NBA Defensive Player of the Year and the 1990 NBA Rookie of the Year ... he led the league in scoring in 1994, in rebounding in 1991 and in blocked shots in 1992 to join Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as one of two players in NBA history to officially accomplish the feat.
Rookie guard Manu Ginobili made an immediate impact and quickly became a fan favorite ... the Argentina native -- who the Spurs selected with the 57th pick in the 1999 NBA Draft -- joined the team after spending the previous three seasons playing in the Italian League ... he was named to the 2003 All-Rookie Second Team after averaging 7.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists during the 2002-03 campaign.
The Spurs moved into a new home for the 2002-03 campaign ... although the Spurs and their fans loved both the HemisFair Arena and the Alamodome, the SBC Center was their first home conceived, designed and built with the Spurs in mind (unlike the HemisFair Arena -- which was built for the 1968 World's Fair -- and the Dome -- which was built by the city of San Antonio as a multi-use sports and entertainment venue) ... in their first season in the SBC Center the Spurs sold out 21 games, averaging 17,950 fans per game in the 18,797-seat facility. Did anyone notice the Spurs finished off their playoff opponents (Suns, Lakers, Mavericks & Nets) in 6 games? The first 3 were on the road.
Gregg Popovich on Tim Duncan: "That's good stuff, ya know. That's Larry Bird stuff."
Is there a higher compliment a coach could give a player? It's not about the name, it's the principal of that statement. Tim Duncan really is greatness.
Oh Damn, I was starting to cry when they made that speech for David Robinson.
this team need to be in NBA 2K16
If only they were in the game
Nice video, Spurs are indeed a great franchise. 02-03 team was incredible
6:54 Tony Parker with a dunk? That's like Steve Nash going up with it.
7:30-7:33 Stephen Jackson be looking like Sean Elliot doing the Memorial Day Miracle
FIVE dislikes? Jesus..I'm no Spurs fan, never have, never will be..but C'MON..this videos are absolutely FANTASTIC!
The best roster of San Antonio Spurs history:TONY PARKER,STEPHEN JACKSON,BRUCE BOWEN,TIM DUNCAN,DAVID ROBINSON,MANU GINOBILI,SPEDDY CLAXTON,MALIK ROSE,STEVE SMITH,DANNY FERRY,STEVE KERR AND KEVIN WILLIS.
You do know those players were too old or too young none of them were in the prime years dummy,2007 maybe or 2014 was most talented top to bottom
The most comically underrated part of Duncans game that made him different was he didnt choke like Malone and Webber, and wouldnt jack up stupid 3s and dumb forced shots like barkley,he was just immaculate in the clutch
I agree with you fully!!!! Those three Kobe, Shaq and Tim are by far the best since MJ did it, Tim though like you said is unbelievable, one of a kind! He is one time a generation player, period.
I love how the Spurs have always, and probbaly always will, rely on their PF's and C's to lead their team. I would go as far as to say that they are their Admirals....
Not a bad thing, of course, this is how it should be, but the Spurs do it with such elegance, which is just beautiful.
i agree that is the classic and most consistent way of winning in basketball.
As a Lakers fan through and through, I just can't hate the Spurs as much as I feel I maybe should. Duncan is the greatest PF ever to play the game and is just an incredible professional who's not interested in personal glory or fame, but simply wants to win. Then you have Pop, arguably the best coach currently in the NBA and when it's all said and done he will be in the Hall of Fame (so will Duncan) and up there with, Phil Jackson. It's unheard of in any sport to coach one club for 16 years+ where loyalty isn't a part of sport as it use to be, but the Spurs are a great example of believing in consistency and if you give people time they will deliver the goods. In a lot of ways they are the equivalent of Arsenal under Wenger or even Man Utd during the Ferguson era (sorry I'm a football fan). Just an excellent franchise top to bottom. The way they completely dominated and dismantled the Heat in this year's finals was not only impressive but what impressed me more than anything was their style of play, total 'team basketball'.
Five-Oooo - David Robinson!!!
Thx for this LakersDynasty42!
this is the year i became a san antonio fan...
Lakers vs. Spurs 2003 series was the best for me Robert Horry miss the 3 was one of the reason he left LA for SA.
He left because the lakers picked up Karl Malone and didnt even offer him a 2 million dollar deal
I'm not a Laker fan by any means, but seeing one post this up is very cool. Many thanks. I only hope the Spurs make it to the NBA Finals again and put on a whupping. I want that 5th ring for Timmy badly lol
Very first NBA championship season recap video I ever got - for my birthday in 2004
Great players...with heart!! Dnt cause drama...dnt showboat...not greedy! Total class act frm the bench...to the coaches to the players on that floor!! Still holds true yo this very day. Love my Spurs!!! True fan for life!! Ill see u in san antonio on march 31st!!!
Thank you Laker ;) i watched all your playlists and it's awesome
Thanks for the upload, I love watching these Championship DVDs and I sadly haven't found those for 99, 03-07, and you seem to have some of them!
The 2011 Spurs could be as special as those famous '03, '05 championship teams - Great veterans combined with up-and coming young stars. Boston-San Antonio will be a finale to remember...
I love these vids
I'm a born and bread Spurs fan and have great respect for the Lakers, but that would freakin' awesome if Shaq, Kobe, and Timmy D were on the same team. that would be the most unstoppable team in this decade.
I find myself the opposite. Lakers fan but I find it that I cannot hate the spurs, lol. Too much respect after all those years, especially for TD. I'd love to have seen that happen.
This is my fave Spurs team ever! PERIOD.
Pj Carlisimo, Mike Brown, Mike Budenholzer, Mike D'antoni man spurs produces some great coaches!
David Robinson the best. I'll be reppin' your jersey tomorrow at Game 2 against Golden State! We're going for number 5! GO SPURS GO!!
holy fuck, they had, a prime Duncan? a young Parker, a prime genobli, and a experienced Robinson!!! all these stars? wow, can u guys imagine if they had Lenoerd to, they would never loose lol
I love the spurs!!!
Ginoboli was far from prime. Both him and parker were not great this season, they were still learning. Duncan was the only allstar on the team....this year was very impressive for Duncan as he really put the team on his back and carried rookies and over the hill vets to a championship. Plus he won mvp, and finals mvp.
Tony and TD dont seem to age. They still look exactly the way they did 11 years ago...
im not a spurs fan......but duncan has always been one of my favorite players
The lakers and spurs had some epic battles. Kobe used to kill us lol, I hated him. But I always respected him as the greatest of all time. These new young fans are all about lebron and dont appreciate kobes greatness.
This brings tears to my eyes
This year's Finals will be Spurs vs Celtics. That would be so epic. I don't care who wins but it will go down as one of the greatest Finals series ever! :))))
" this guys are not team, they are family... if u r fan of spurs . your part of the family"
Mad respect to the Spurs 4 beating my Lakers in 2003
+Franklin Clinton yeah the spurs were were awesome that year. Too bad Tim Duncan has to retire in the future, and Kobe!
Darien Quinones i know
real recognizes real! spurs 2012 champs!!!!
Spurs for life, even when TD retires
as a SPURS fan i have a big respect to lakers
Magic was a Great one of a player
good luck in that up-coming season
Tony Parker with the slam dunk! lololol
Funny how they say its a rebuilding season from 99 to 02 and not mention it was a 50 win season
the finals for the season was really the Spurs-Lakers series
Im the kid at 1:07 with the shirt down to my knees and the hat haha
I just really wish we could give duncan a final title for his last season like we did to DRob
We may not like u guys and u guys don`t like us but we respect u guys will this laker fan here
That time has hungry vets: Kerr, Willis, Ferry, Steve Smith
i hope this come again this 2013
This is LeBron's nightmare, he just got lucky everyone in the Spurs wasnt in their prime, some still unexperienced, some gets weakened by age and injuries... some really misses David Robinson in their team....
How about the coaching staff, Pop had Budenholzer, Brown and P.J all as his assistants
San Antonio Spurs vs Boston Celtics... aka Tim Duncan vs Kevin Garnett
That will be The Finals we all will never forget.
BALL SOOOOOOOO HARD... make me have to find part 2...
Shaq is also apart of that 3 man conversations. Shaq, Kobe and Tim Duncan three that you can put in the top 10 greatest players of all time. Lebrons coming there too soon.
Damn gonna miss Coach Bud good luck in ATL.
Tony Parker dunked ... damn I ain't kno he could do that
I'd love to see that. Too bad it'll never happen -___-
Duncan and Ginobili are two of my favorite players of all time (Robinson is really amazing aswell, of course, just not my personal favorite). Ginobili really was at his absolute peak, in my opinion, in the 2004 Olympics, this amount of clutch plays, team effort, grace and just feeling for the ball and the court is outstanding.
I still think the Spurs should've had this last title...just a few more bouts of effort here and there and the Spurs could have closed out game 6 and brought #5 home
5:32 G.O.A.T.
Funny how we're 8-0 in the Playoffs and on an 18 game winstreak.
12:12 lol Pop, had to play them again 3 more times
.... When did this happen? Im basically a die hard, know it all Spurs fan. I dont remember Timmy D having a Nike shoe in all his years in the league.
Spurs in my opinion are the best all rounder team and not showboats. we work with our players not buy them ( lakers heat). Hey look it Robert Horry 14:17
6:56 Tony dunkin'!!!
Go spurs go the real big 3 finna get dat 5 th title i can feep it
Spurs always has a great defensive small forward lol
Back when Ginobili had hair ! :-)
he posts all the seasons from 1980 to 2004, not because hes a spurs fan
That shot shouldn't have gone in!!! -__- clock started late! D:
minuto 6,56 la primera vez que veo a Tony Parker, clavar la pelota
Man if Robert horry would have hit that shot the lakers probably win the championship that year and shaq and Kobe stick together they probably end up with like 8 rings
as a Laker fans in terms of rivalry i HATE the Celtics but for the last 13 years the Spurs have always pushed the Lakers and vice versa Tim Duncan got rings at Kobe's expense and vice versa i have respect for San Antonio as a rival, i wanted one more Spurs-Lakers showdown in the West but the Spurs will dispose of the overrated Thunder
best rivals spurs vs lakers
a dynasty is if you win 3 in a row or 3 out of 4 or 3 out of 5 yrs
11:14 full headed manu this is how he would wna be remembered ... u can see it starting tho fukd up
10:35 Bang!
Like Phil Jackson said "The San Antonio Spurs aren't a dynasty BUT they're a force."
no way...he had his own nike shoe
6:03 most Timmy showboating I've ever seen, well except for the three on the suns in 08.
Welcome back Stephen Jackson.
6:55 Parker dunking? ????
6:55 just the important parts
@amare1cro These 2012 Spurs can be even better than the 2011
Anyone notice Parker blew past MJ @5:50?
Mike Brown lol
Giiinnnooobbbiillliiii (shaq voice)..like if you saw game 1 vs. Golden state warriors for the win in double OT...
lol the spurs always kills the suns except in 2009-2010 playoffs
i don't like the thunder but overrated ? man , they made their way to the NBA finals ...
they got to be great
@videomaker74 lol yeh, i dunno what i wazz thinkin. i guessed veteranship will prevail over young teams. guess not! go heat!
nike total air foamposite max, im a die hard sneakerhead
5:37
Funny how they got knocked outta the first round in last year's playoffs XD
