The primary armament againt MBT tanks are the Maverick missiles. The GAU-8 is no longer reliable against modern MBTs. However, teh GAU-8 would be still be expremely effective against LAVs, light bunkers, and infantry, especially in Danger Close situations. Can teh A-10 carry an EW/ECM pod?
In my opinion, the A-10 is massively outdated. However, I do believe the US military needs something like an A-10, a specialized long-endurance, Danger Close CAS aircraft with modern built in avionics. I do not believe the A-10 can be further upgrade in its current plane form (aka fuselage). We should have a New Thunderbolt III with possibly a bigger gun (not sure how feasible it will be, upgraded avionics to include organic ECM and all-weather day-night capbilities, and Link-16 with network centric systems.
Maverick and Hellfire missiles have a substantial stand off range. The A-10 wouldn't be totally outclassed using these. Both missiles have fire and forget capability allowing the A-10 to get down low. Obviously using its guns to strafe in the presence of man-pads is a problem. .

Why the US not give a A10 warthog to Ukraine instead F16 ?
These things are practically indestructible, that’s why. Plus, they already have stingers to shoot down aircraft and the German “Gepard” armored self propelled anti air battery. They also have their own jets from when they were a part of the Soviet Union, like the (forgive me if I’m wrong) SU-37, the MiG-29, and the SU-24.. that probably isn’t all of their jets but they are the most notable.
