Chevy Chase uninterested involvement in the series turned out to be such a great character in community. Dan Harmon is genius
From the second season they turned him into a very hateful character, when in the first season he was a kind of father figure. I wonder how much of that had to do with the disputes with Chevy Chase and how much with the character's natural development.
@@Ratchet2431 Yeah, it's a shame. He went from a hilarious oblivious, harmless accidental racist to a complete jerk. I don't like the direction they took with his character.

@Conn Benn Agreed. Him trying to destroy Vicky in the election because she wouldn't borrow him a pencil for example is one of the funniest examples of him being petty
from what small info ive gathered regarding how the drama went down, ive come to conclude the opposite of what most of everyone in the fanbase believes.
i believe chevy came into the project knowing his character is one of the gang, but as episodes went on the character of pierce progressively became less a part of the group and more of an annoyance or outright hindrance. he then got upset and harmon for turning his protagonist character into an antagonist which just triggered him into writing pierce even more as a villain. because in interviews dan really does talk like he is one to hold a grudge. and of course this escalation ended up with them going from misunderstanding to full hostility
The animosity in every Chevy Chase scene is almost palpable, lmao
It really is. He clearly hated being there and they all couldn't stand his shitty attitude and negative bullshit.

Donald glovers script had a lot of “Troy says something funny” he’s so good at improvising. If you watch community and specifically look for Donald improvising there’s so much. It’s one of my favorite parts of the show because he’s genuinely so funny.

So 99 percent of Chevy's outtakes were him being grouchy and angry. Also you can see Donald Glover having enough of his shit progressively as the show went on.

it's good to see that despite the oft-documented troubles with Chevy, he and the cast still had moments of laughter and fun while filming
It's not that they hated him at first. He's just a jerk and it's not just this shows cast that says so. Even bill Murray is being outed as a jerk now.
I've watched this before, but this time "Look at me while you're suffering" just made me laugh hysterically. I hope JO can find time to cameo in the upcoming movie.

I do wonder if he injured himself several times and left the show before he got seriously injured. Or worse, have an entire career based on falling down.
Alison's expression at 21:12 right after Chevy laughs shows there was some tension with Chevy on that scene.
