Wonderful performance... so well-interpreted, musically and soulfully! Clara Wieck was only 16yo when she wrote this piece, and madly in love with Robert Schumann. Several years later, he asked her by letter, what she was thinking when she wrote the Nocturne. Btw, he used the main theme, AGFED, for his Fantasy Op 17, probably as a way of representing Clara thematically.
@@trompodearrachera1284 She was actually a child star not unlike Mozart. She was a famous pianist all throughout her life. While Robert was alive, her career was stunted by being a mother and wife, but she was always more famous than him.
Thank you for you're beautiful performance. Clara Schumann was very beloved in Vienna. In the Vienna Musikverein there are several statues of men but none of women. However there is a statue of Clara Schumann just outside of the concert hall in the stairwell. There are no other statues of women in the entire place. They must have felt she deserved to be there.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece ! I would love to hear more of female composers’ pieces as they tend to be less heard and are, as this one shows, as enchanting as other pieces composed by men ^^
Hearing more women for the sake of hearing more women is only good for the fact that they have enchanting music to offer the world regardless of their gender. I don't want to see things in terms of this gender vs that, and yet maybe some gender differences make the music unique too
What I find interesting is how the absence of an audience changes the acoustics of the hall. Notice the increased resonance with the absence of the audience.
This is the very first piece I have ever loved! I've been thinking about quitting piano for a bit now as I go into college, but this is a sign to keep going, I'm sure of it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reigniting my passion.
Clara Schumann is one of my favourite composers! She was such a brilliant composer and there are so many other female composers out there that aren' t represented nearly enough as well (Fanny Mendelssohn, Barbara Strozzi, Louise Farrenc, Francesca Caccini, and 100s more)! I am so happy to hear a female composer being celebrated like this. Beautiful, well done! You would like Louise Farrenc (For example Aire Russe varié) and Fanny Mendelssohn piano pieces too, but maybe you have played them before. Excellent! Best wishes, Lily :)
Three years later I still come back to this piece. I'm learning it now and it just adds a whole new layer of appreciation to your interpretation. I love hearing different people play this and seeing what you choose to emphasize or fade into the background.
Pretty new subscriber. Went back and watched most of your old videos over the past couple years. Unbelievable the progression not only as a pianist, but as a person. Love the passion! Keep striving!
Thank you for being such an inspiration Tiffany. You are my favourite classical performer of this generation. I have been playing the piano for 5 years and I always come back to your channel since it motivates me to keep practising and one day I will play as beautifully as you do :)
Absolutely beautiful. This seems to define artistic aesthetics musically I feel like. Wonderful. First time I've heard a Clara Wieck composition also. Just hauntingly beautiful.
So beautiful as always. Thank you for bringing the music that you play to life, giving each and every one of us a wonderful, unique experience listening and watching. Thank you, Tiffany :)
I thank Tiffany Poon for exposing me to Robert and Clara Schumann. As one who loves classical music I was largely ignorant of this husband and wife. Let alone their beautiful compositions. Thank you Tiffany.
I played that nocturne last semester!! It’s beautiful!! My piano teacher want me to play more female composers, so she gave me that nocturne and the Latín Blue Partita from Graciela Agudelo, it’s a mexican female composer, you should listen her work! Also, I love how you play the piano!! Greetings from Mexico 💕💕
ana-marija nujić well its hard in the aspect that has a lot of irregular rythm figures. Also the interpretation its hard to get, it has some dificult passages that you have to study carefully with separate hands.
I don't get to understand from what universe you really are. A wonderful musician like yourself inspire in ways beyond imagination. I hear you play and I just want to be better as a human being. I can only listen, breath and carry a smile that will my companion all day. Thank you for the footage that you share with us.
Thank you for this amazing piece honoring Clara Schumann. The Resonance of your playing in the hall is amazing and the bedazzlement is real. Beautiful piece and interpretation, hope you will have a wonderful performance.
Thanks for introducing me to this great piece! I've never been a big Schumann fan (Robert or Clara) but I might have to reconsider after this. Thanks so much!
Whoaaaaaaa came here after the version on her piano that you just posted, and I can totally see what you mean in your self-criticism. The other version is so much cleaner and yet, so much more filling. Love it!!
Seeing you play in Moritzburg church in this video made me treasure last Tuesday's concert there even more! It was so nice to meet you in person and hear you play live! I was so excited I hardly knew what to say when you stood in front of me... So let me tell you here how much you inspire me with your vlog! It's fantastic to get a glimpse of what life as a concert pianist is like! You combine great art with a wonderful personality - thank you for sharing both with us! Greetings from back in Hamburg (second "home" of Steinway & Sons beside NY - come visit the factory one day!) Nicola
I have been learning this piece, so obviously I have my own ideas on interpretation; but this is a wonderful performance and I shall probably steal a few ideas of Tiffany's where they seem to me better than mine! :))
Without a doubt the most skilled pianist I've ever heard. I just want you to play everything for me. I hope you make more videos like these, and hopefully with better acoustics and sound quality.
Señorita. Estoy atrapado en su belleza, estoy enamorado del amor y la pasión que desprende por la música y el arte, usted es realmente maravillosa. Le deseo mucha prosperidad!
You're beautiful in every sense and aspect. I have self knowledge of the piano which is little to no experience. My experience is within dancing and I understand expressions between the genre of music and feelings between the dancer and type of dance correlated. Both compositions (mine and yours) reminds me of Funtasia. How portraying colors, strength, and emotion tells someone's story. In my sense of understanding that's why I think your beautiful. Yours truly.
New Concert Date!! Just official after posting this recording: September 22nd at Gilmore Festival: www.thegilmore.org/event/tiffany-poon/
Tiffany Poon cool!
Bkd! Looking forward to it:)
I wanted to go so badly, but if I go I won't catch my plane back home :,(
I love Tiffany Poon !
Великолепно....и Душевно,полет Души.
I like the atmosphere of no audience in the background, so beautiful. Is that just me?
Nope
Nope. It's a good thing. No distractions
Its disconcerting to see the sound board aimed away from the audience.
Yes, very beautiful empty church indeed!
It feels like the place is a gigantic entity with a soul.

16?!? Man, she must be a genius then lmao
do you know where can I read the letter? I'm so curious about how she expressed the emotions she conveyed through this piece

The audience was speechless.
I'll let myself out. 😂

can't agree more

Very rarely played beautiful nocturne and great performance, thanks for sharing this music!
There‘s a middle section in Schumann’s novelette op.21 no 8 which recalls this nocturne theme. Like an homage to the love of his life.

@@984francis The point is that collectivist ideology is bad. Good music is good music: Deliberately choosing female composers is sexism
