Great videos. I put mine in an oryx chassis and you could park an 18 wheeler under the barrel-positively no interference. Seems to shoot well, if I can just do my part
I have this rifle in 6.5 PRC and .308. My son has 2 in 28 Nosler and 6.5 PRC. They All shoot sub moa. My 6.5 PRC shouts .25 moa 3 shot clovers. I roll my own and with each rifle finding the right nodes made all the difference. Most accurate rifles out of the box I’ve ever owned. It also takes awhile to season the barrel. I’m shooting barnes and son is shooting Hornady .
How many rounds to season the barrel?
Those stocks don't have aluminum pillers or bedding in them to keep it a light weight rig
i put a mdt xlr chassis in mine . groups went from ok to under 1/2 in group at 500 yards . the stock was the real accuracy problem with this rifle . the overtravel adjustment in the trigger was not set correctly when it left the factory too.. now i can set it real super light safely . cant believe sav let it go like that . if you set the trigger lower it would go off while closing the bolt .. BIG SAFETY PROBLEM SAVAGE !!!!!!
Well are you getting close to getting your video with the updated stock uploaded? I was considering doing the same. Thanks and please let me know!
Probably but not sure when. We just had our first baby, and I started a new job. It’s been super hectic haha.
But the new stock made a HUGE difference
I think that this gun is largely mean to run that cold bore shot with that stock. If you have the XLR, you'll have a range and hunting rig. Looking forward to the side by side
That Fusion 165 is good. Windage issues are usually from the shooter. The winchester is acceptable at both 100 and 200. I'm 99% certain it's the stock at this point
Was the XLR stock upgrade a direct bolt on? Or was there any smithing involved .
Direct bolt on, no smithing, and it increased accuracy DRAMATICALLY! I’ve had a lot of life event popping up in the past several months which is why I haven’t posted a video in a while. But once things start to settle down a bit (should be soon) then I’ll start posting more frequently again.
Just so you know Boyd‘s custom stocks now makes lightweight custom carbon fiber composite stocks for the savage 110 ultralight with custom betting blocks and all totally awesome drop in and shoot
That’s awesome! Shortly after this video, I purchased an XLR magnesium element 4.0 chasis to use. It dropped the group size significantly
Do you have a link? Can’t find anything on there site
@@bradenherle8774 I just reached out to them directly through email and ordered
Kevin Leaman do you have a link?
So your $1500 carbon barrel throws groups the size of a shotgun? I own a pencil barreled ultralight savage that groups in a quarter size before it heats up. None of their mags work very good anyway. I guess I'll keep buying Tikka and Winchester.
I doubt accuracy is affected by the stock being rested on a bag ,the forend takes a fair bit of force to make contact with barrel, the weight of the gun by itself is not near enough to flex the stock and touch barrel. I have the same rifle .
Well as soon as I changed the stock it shrunk the group size to about 1/2 moa with the same box of ammo tested in these videos
@@isaacspoon man then maybe I should change mine , haven't shot for groups yet as it's been cold as heck out , thanks .
@@motoriderguy3854 I have half of a video recorded talking about it. However we just had our first baby on 3/30 haha so I haven’t had much free time lately
@@isaacspoon well congratulations on that baby , yeah iv got the 280ai ultralight and with my suppressor on it that thing hardly has recoil , I love it . I'm waiting on another 280 ai I'm having built by alamo rifles ,so that will be exciting . Also I polished my savage bolt up inside and out ,that made it alot smoother cycling .
i think having the gun rest on the mag is why you are getting less than the usual sub moa most Savages produce
It was the stock and how flimsy it was. Once I changed the stock I saw immediate improvements
Nah bro, touching the barrel isn’t gonna throw a bullet like that. You need a more sturdy shooting rest that a single bag under the rifle. There’s a reason bench rest shooters have the setups that they do. You are doing savage a disservice with this video.
What was the outcome on this rifle? Recently purchased the same rifle and having some grouping issues also. Trying a new scope this coming weekend and hoping that’s my issue. Would like to know how yours is doing now? Thanks
My accuracy drastically improved with a stock change. The factory stock was making contact with the barrel and was super flimsy. I purchased an XLR element 4.0 to maintain the lightweight desire of the rifle. It helped substantially. I also hand loaded to further increase accuracy after I found the accuracy improved by about 50% from the stock change alone.
Thank you
Great review. I was looking closely at this rifle. Pretty unimpressive accuracy and that stock flex is abysmal. I'll look in your for your other stock review.
Did you every test the new stock yet? If so what do that turn out like?
Yes I did. Instant improvement on results. I have some footage but need to get more. My wife and I just had our first baby on 3/30 so I haven’t had a ton of free time this past month. I plan to post a video soon showing better results
@@isaacspoon congratulations on your baby man! One of the greatest gifts God ever gave me was my twin boys and my daughter. I have the same 300 wsm as you and I have definitely had issues. Even with handloading and match bullets the best I squeeze out is .85 Moa for a 5 shot group. My son's American ruger does better than that. I called savage and they said most ppl in the world would be happy with .85. I told them I'm not most ppl and a 1300 dollar rifle should be sub 1/2
@@danielforester6636 thanks!! Yea it’s been life changing for sure!!
And I agree. A 1300 gun should shoot better than that… and with a wide range of ammo. Not finicky just to even get sub MOA. I definitely saw success with the new stock. I got some other ammo as well to test out before working up a handloadb
@@isaacspoon I'm looking forward to the videos. Thanks so much for the replies bro. You and the family have a good evening.
Might also have been mild / minor barrel contact with foreend of stock.... threw off barrel harmonics or whatever thr heck lol
What are you using to measure your groups is it an app?
Yea SubMOAPro. You reference a known measurement, I try to get targets with 1inch square grids on them, so I can use that as the reference link when using the app.
My 300wsm likes federal fusions 180 gr.
How long is the barrel in the 300 wsm? Different sources say 22” and some say 24”?
I don’t remember off the top of my head and I just drove to New Mexico today. If you find me on FB and remind me to check after the 28th I can measure it for you.
@@isaacspoon Hello just wondering if you had time to measure? I am also wondering if the mag actually only holds 2 rounds?
@@bradenherle8774 I’ll measure right now. Give me 5 min. Mag holds 3 rounds if I remember right but I’ll check that too
@@bradenherle8774 it’s 22.5” from muzzle to barrel nut and 23.5” from muzzle to receiver.
I forgot I gave my stock to my father in law so I can’t check mag capacity but I’m 95% sure it’s 3rds because I had to load 2 in after when shooting 5shot groups
Make a follow up video on rifle and optic please
I plan to soon. Just had our first child and lost my job within the past 2 months. Trying to juggle everything and get settled into the new job I start on june27. Keep an eye on the channel, once I get started and the dust settles, there will be a video released
@@isaacspoon sounds good. Hope everything is going smooth man. Sending good vibes your way. So do you think you just got a lemon stock that made the gun inaccurate? I’m currently considering getting this exact model and caliber
@@gregspivak5101 yea. I got an magnesium XLR chasis and it dropped the group size drastically
I went with highcountry didn't like those groups
If a 14x leupold isn’t enough for 100-200yds then I’m sorry to tell you that 22x won’t improve your groups!
Well it did. Thanks for the concern however
Those rifles seem to take a col shots for foul shots..if you will shoot the same ammo again like three groups in a row... you will see a whole different ball game
I would super not be happy with those results
A
Get a Tikka 🤣
pass.
Just took my new Tikka 300WSM out for the first time today. Going again tomorrow. Most every Tikka I have shoots as well or better than any previous custom build
