The funniest part of this is that he seemed to stop right before the end of ch 3 of the main game in his xc2 review, literally right before Mythra was introduced.
That's basically where I stopped too... lol. It's hard to pick the game back up when the characters do nothing but aggravate you the entire time you're playing.
@@BeatEmUps mythra had a stronger focus in the main game. Made pyra irrelevant after her introduction honestly. Did you even get to when Lora is introduced in the main game? How would how know how much focus they get if you didn't even play through the whole story?
It's not the fanbase that is the problem, it's overly rigid opinionated people that are the problem. People really need to open their minds a bit more and be accepting of opposing subjective tastes, you can't force someone to have the same experience you do.
While listening, and not watching your review, I had to constantly remind myself that you were talking about Torna. Because if you shift title and character names around a bit, it sounds like you are reviewing the base game. In fact, from this review, I can tell EXACTLY when you stopped playing XC2 - right before the end of Ch 3.
Juan Fernandez I know right? He was talking about the orbs which were in the original, the parts gauge, different effects, level of attacks, type effectiveness, and more. I’m pretty sure that they were in the original game right?
end of chapter three is cringe and in my opinion the game was kind of find in a storytelling perspective until vandham dies for nothing and its revealed Jin has a dumbass character motive
Yeah, not really seeing too much different between 2 and Torna. Sure, Torna is immediately more engaging, but I didn't have to play too long before I had enough blades to make combat engaging. It is not the greatest RPG in the world, not even my favorite combat, but he was really harsh on 2's combat if Torna's combat rocked his world.
Honestly, I respect you for not rating the main Xenoblade Chronicles 2 game and your reasons for not liking it. Then when you start comparing it to other games as well as this one, you just contradicted yourself. You said that you didn't have enough time to play the main XC2 game and yet, you still criticise it with other games where you have played a fair bit of time on them. This is really just you wanting to speak down on XC2 as much as you can and you lost credibility with that in my eyes.
Same. It's tiring seeing the opposite side throwing the argument on how other said it gets good after a set amount of hours trying to defend him. I like him, but if he does want to be a respectable reviewer, he needs to get professional and stop comparing games to one he refused to play more to give an actual opinion and not be half-assed. Just because this one is of the same source, doesn't mean he can without playing more of the main game. People need to think logically for once and stop defending him cause they think they will be his best friend. Again, doesn't make him a bad person in the slightest, but did lose respect to him as a reviewer a tad bit. I haven't played either version, so people can put down their idiotic comments of me being a fanboy towards Xenoblade 2.
The same reason why I unsub and stick to the other Nintendo-centric reviewers. Only went here as to see how he will "redeem" himself. Well, one thing is for sure still not subbing back and leaving a dislike for the same uniformed "button mashing" non-review. Again, if you don't want to review stuff, don't. Well, I guess that XC2 non-reviewXreview worked out for him in the end. It got views. I judt don't know if it's worth losing subscribers. Lost credibility then, still do now. Well, at least 8-bit Eric had the decency to not dip his hands on the prequel because... oh boy! you guys make an "amazing" XC2 reviewing tandem. Sticking to SpawnWave, RGT, and Happy Console Gamer.
@@amolsol I don't think he's a professional reviewer, just a dude giving his opinion. You need to beat the game for a solid review, but you only need so many hours for a solid opinion. He shouldn't have to beat a game to share his in a video. Not defending HIM, defending the idea of sharing your honest thoughts without having to be "professional". Haven't played any Xenoblade so his opinion might not do the game Justice, but if it's how he feels he doesn't owe anyone anything.
@@MattMatrixJohnson At this point, he is growing his channel and making money off the videos in different ways, he is becoming a professional at what he does. He doesn't need to be in a company to be one. Thing is, he is still reviewing games and showcasing them to an audience. Do not excuse him. He still keeps saying bad things of a game he didn't play much of and comparing. He shouldn't do that at all. Again, and have already said it many times, he doesn't need to love the game or play it completely, only long enough to make his opinion actually valid. Cause he has played long RPGs before, the length isn't the problem at all. Other reviewers that hate the game have played it a better length, too. He should have just leave it that he does not want to review the game, but always making a joke on different videos. Truly becoming annoying. He is still a reviewer, he is making money off this since he even says is his job now, so he better act serious upon it. Cause many others do, regardless of working for a review company or not. Part of the job. People shouldn't be so easy on him. He is not just a person who games on his spare time now. This is his career.
I can completly understand that you dont get into the story. You need to have played the main game to fully understand what is going on. Torna explains so much about the antagonists in the main game and Mythras behavoir, when she first appears in it.
the director of these games recently said story isn't important for rpg's, the world is. this is why the games will continue to suck, and the crappy battle system
I love a lot of your videos, but yeah... I disagreed with you on the xenoblade chronicles 2 video. Love both the main game and the prequel for its amazing combo system.
Tin Can just listen how he complains about how slow Rex swings his sword. He obviously doesn’t even know know how to cancel his auto attacks. And him complaining about tells voice acting is laughable. The characters are very memorable and a lot of character depth, sometimes it’s cheese yes. Everyone can have an opinion and that’s fine but how about play the game so you don’t like an absolute dumbass, he’s very hypocritical in this video and it hurts
I just finished xenoblade 2 last night after chipping away at it slowly over a few months... man.. it blew me away. I'm really keen to play more of the xeno series, especially Torna.
The STORY on both of them are just soooo amazing I literally shed a tear at the end of the base game and Tornas story takes you playing all of the base game to truly enjoy it
@@dsgibboney3 Shed a tear? I was crying an ocean's worth of tears and was shaking throughout the whole final cut scene and 30 mins after I finished watching it
You didn't really like the story because you didn't play much of Xenoblade 2. When you start seeing where the characters come from, that's when this TTGC story will shine
He didn't like the story because he doesn't like the story. You cannot see the inner workings of his mind, so please don't assume they will align with your perception of the world. Learn to accept that people are different and that's what makes the world interesting.
Starting a story is experiencing a story, if it doesn't grab you, interest you at the start how likely are you to continue just in case it gets good later? There is no guarantee that he will like the story if he finishes the game, why should he waste the time to find out when he has subjectively better things to do? Time is limited, he chose to prioritise his time doing something he enjoys more, end of story. And to add context, I'm a massive Tetsuya Takahashi fan and I loved these games, but that doesn't mean someone else will have the same experience.
Look at it like this... What if, the story does hooks you from the start... but then starts going down and down of quality, all because they wrote to much of a hooking beginning, instead of a overall good story just with a slow start? What do you rather? A slow start but overall a great story, or a drawing interesting start... only for the story to drop an hour in because they were worrying about an attention grabber?
Sonic, slow start does not mean a bad story. An individual's enjoyment of a story and it's characters are purely subjective. What is so hard about accepting that someone wasn't interested in a story you enjoyed? I can guarantee without any shadow of a doubt that there are stories out there that you absolutely loathe that others found incredibly enjoyable, because that's how varied the human species is. Accept it and move on.
X2 late game gameplay is better than Torna's. But Torna has a MUCH better early game. But the main characters of Torn (Lora/Jin) is way better than Rex and Pyra.
Tyler Mitchell Nothing. While it’s normally immature to assume things like this, I’m pretty sure most people hating on the game (on this channel at least) haven’t actually played it.
Nero Biblios and even if it was a review, bad reviews for good games doesn't make someone a bad reviewer. Now let's leave aside the argument that xenoblade 2 is good is highly debatable, a reviewer is just giving their opinions away, unpopular or popular, they are just opinions. Maybe if you weren't so passionate about this game you would see that. But the fanboy glasses are blocking the view I suppose.
I mean, I get that some people will have a hard time getting invested. I also had a very hard time learning the game mechanics and needed to look it up on the internet. And I had some misgivings about how Pyra/Mythra are basically stereotypes of waifu/tsundere with skint clothing. I get that. It's just that he seems to be reviewing the whole game based upon his intial hours of gameplay. It's fine to not want to spend 100+ hours of your life being forced to play XC2 for the sake of reviewing it, but imo he should've just left it as "a game he didn't feel like finishing" instead of trying to make a point about the entire game if he hasn't gotten to know thoroughly and making it basically a meme for his channel.
@@Navarchil he said multiple times that he didn't want to make a review. The video he did on the base game was purely "I didn't like it" not "this game is bad don't play it" After that, the xenoblade jokes were just to ride the meme, and it worked because apparently a lot of people were affected by it.
Maybe I am a slow player but after 10 hours I wasn't even done with Gormott. Maybe if you just take your time and don't rush, you take 20hrs to unlock everything.
It's called different tastes my boi. That being said, what do like about the games? I've been considering picking them up but been on the fence since it came out.
Panpatoes until I discovered just how in depth the combat of the base game was with chaining elemental orbs, I wasn’t too into it either. But the narrative alone in XC2 kept me playing that game nonstop.
Xenoblade 2 is certainly not a game for everyone, but I think people who say the game sucks are people who shouldn't be playing JRPGs in the first place. If you don't like stories, don't like the battle system, go play another game. This game is not for you. For the demographic Xenoblade 2 does target, it does its job as a JRPG very well, and I know most JRPG fans really enjoyed the game. Most RPGs start real slow and Xenoblade 1 was just as guilty on that front, yet you hear nobody complain about that game's battle system. If anything, Xenoblade 1's battle system is very clunky and outdated, yet everyone still thinks it's a masterpiece. In most RPGs, you can't do more than a few things during battle when you start off. The game rewards you greatly for grinding and exploring and makes the combat way more fun and smooth when you put in the efford to do that. If you don't like doing that, then the game is not for you. Do I think the game could have started off faster? Yes, definitely, and Torna Golden Country proves as much. I personally like both battle systems but I agree TGC starts off much faster and feels more refined. There is room for improvement, but from my subjective standpoint, Xenoblade 2 is a good game with a few flaws.
I liked Xenoblade 2 from slow start to end. The start for me lastest probably about 80hours for never could figure out Chain attack (I ended up googling a bit then steam rolled the game from there.) Spent about 450 hours in total (Including XC2 and The golden Country). My fav game I played on the switch so far.
215h in Xenoblade 2. Level 99, still completing missions and affinity charts, enjoying the dlc extra content (specially the blades). I have already finished Torna (35h), but I'm still level 67 or something similar and my affinity charts suck, so I have many things to do yet!
I don't understand how you can compare 2 combat systems without actually fully playing both. Please do full research before you influence the masses on your opinion. Love the content though!
Just button mashing? Sounds like you spend 10 hours in Xenoblade 2 and didn’t even learn how to cancel auto attacking, actually it just sounds like you didn’t even play the game. You LITERALLY CAN NOT just auto your way through the game. You understand that the first area in any video game is usually idk easy? I appreciate your videos but you’re complaining about things that you didn’t even figure out. It’s pretty tilting that you play the DLC but you couldn’t get past 20 hours in the vanilla game.
@@aleph7056 do you mean how can you not auto your way through the game? Simple, the game continuously ramps up challenge over the course of the game and a ton of bosses, field bosses, and even just normal enemies have extremely dangerous arts, unique abilities that can be very problematic, and when they reach their rage state they will absolutely destroy you if you aren't careful. Using arts wisely, setting up special combos quickly, using those special combos to seal enemy abilities, and reaching a Full Burst chain attack quickly become very important. The game gives you time to learn all of this in a safer environment before dumping all of this on you. And in the base game there are also no fixed roles. Each character can be any class or blend of classes and that also effects how you play. All of this is in Torna, but in a different way. The best way to look at it is that Torna is more reactionary, it's about making snap decisions. The base game is about strategizing ahead, it requires more forethought. Both have their charms but in NEITHER game can you auto attack your way to victory for much of the game. Torna, however, is much shorter - around one third the time needed to beat the base game - and thus is forced to teach faster.
Like it or not, Torna is much more approachable and faster paced than Xenoblade 2. I love both games, though I like the base game considerably more. I actually like the slow build. It allows for great character moments and it helps you get attached to the story. However, I greatly appreciate what Torna did by expanding the lore though. Or, not expanding, just giving you the chance to play through everything that led up to Xenoblade 2. And the nuanced combat system is really great as well. Thanks for giving Torna a chance, glad it was more up your alley. And sorry Xenoblade 2 wasn't fast enough for you. I can understand that, though I cannot fathom myself feeling that way about it. Also, I absolutely adore the English dub in both games. No joke. I tried playing it with Japanese audio, but it felt so wrong. I just love how wacky and over-the-top it is, while at the same time being full of heart. Nia, Morag, and Pyra/Mythra were my favorite voices in the base game, and Lora, Addam, and Mythra were great in Torna, in my opinion.
@@danielfielke3895 dude the guy brought up all the hatred on himself if didn't like xenoblade 2 and just ended it none of this would be happening but the guy keeps bringing it up
Shadow, how is comparing his personal experience a reason for hatred? Why can't some people just accept a different opinion on something that has no tangible effect on them? Why must people spread their misery and disappointment in such an abusive manner? Why can't we all be a bit more like BCT Alicorn here?
@@danielfielke3895 if he had just ended with the first none of the hatred would be happening but he didn't and brought all this on himself, you can't defend him because he compared games he really shouldn't have if he never compared Xenoblade 2 to Ys 8 none of this would be happening the fact he did he's brought all this on himself, the fact that this isn't the first time "xenoblade 2 should have" videos. It doesn't matter about his personal experiences he compared two games that should have never been compared and while saying xenoblade should not be xenoblade but every other generic action rpg and has never gone back to xenoblade 2 even after all the quality of life upgrades and is now comparing it to another dlc. The dude brought all the hatred on himself
It would never have started if people didn't overreact to meaningless things. The comparison is valid because they're both Japanese action RPGs on the Switch and he has been very clear on his experience with the game. You have to take his comparison in context with his experience, XenoChron made him want to stop playing Ys made him want to keep going, that a perfectly acceptable personal comparison. Personally I'd switch it the other way around but we're different people so that's to be expected. No one deserves to be hated for a differing opinion on their subjective enjoyment of a piece of media. Disagreeing respectfully and being hateful are two very different things. Do you honestly feel that resorting to hatred all the time is the best thing to be doing on social networks? Do you like hating things?
For those who complain about the combat in the first game and call it boring. Did you try to equip accessories and pouch items (especially narcipear jelly)? did you try auto attack cancelling? Are you aiming to get fusion combos? It’s easy to complain to battle system if you’re playing it with one hand tied behind your back.
Literally everything he said was good is in the base game after chapter 3. I'm at 250 hours, I have every blade, I'm level 99. Rex is not slow. He's only slow in like, the first five or so hours. Do the merc missions, buy stuff, get the deeds. He speeds up. I can do that in under 5 hours in NG+. USE YOUR EXPANSION PASS DUDE. You can customize the settings to make the healthbar of the enemies go down. If you haven't participated in the grind to get Kos Mos, you have no right to say anything bad about Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Just say "I haven't played that game yet." Because there are LEGITIMATE criticisms when it comes to this game... like... the gachapon system. I wish you'd talk about that, because right now, beating the gachapon system was the majority of my playthrough. Instead of going deep into the systems and describing the REAL flaws of this game, you're just a filthy causal complaining about balancing that you could literally change on your own with the expansion pass that comes FREE with Torna. I'm deep into this game... that's true and I do enjoy it. It's one of my favorite games. But I'm also saying there are DEEP deep flaws with it that you are missing entirely because you didn't actually play the game. I just want better and deeper reviews. There aren't enough videos complaining about the Kos Mos grind.
Benjamin Woodham I agree with you completely It’s my favourite game of all time. The only reason he says it’s bad is because of the long wait for things to get going and yes that could get annoying but some of the best RPGS of all time have it way worse There’s no way someone could say the wait for this to get going is worse then kingdom hearts 2
I've said this already in his last video but I'll say it again. To say, "it gets better at ____" when you have been playing for 15 hours is not a good argument. Especially for players who like to/only play in small sessions or play for quick immediate fun. If a game is not to your liking at 15 hours in then it is clearly not a game for you. Many people aren't going to be spending hours on end on their console, in fact a large group of people don't, and so 15+ hours is a long time to "wait until chapter 5". This argument does not apply to every context. I mean just imagine that in a different context. "You don't like the book? But that's just the first book. The third book in the series and onwards is when it really get better." You know what your response would be right? If you didn't like it first hand, why on earth would you push yourself through something you know you will dislike just to get to a point where you may or may not like it? And really, by the time he had gotten to the point people were so adamant on him getting to, he wouldn't have been so enthusiastic about the game, which would have ultimately negatively affected his enjoyment and thus lead to a negative review on the game as a whole (something fans in the comments clearly do not want).
It's funny. I agree with this statement even though when I first started playing the game, I was meh with it. Really the only reason I continued was because I just sank $60 into it, and I'm not rich. I kept playing it hoping I would get into more as the plot continued, and by the end, I loved it. If you're the kinda person who hates slow starts to games, this is a horrible game for you and I wouldn't recommend it unless the concept sounds interesting to you. I dont blame people who say they hated it for that reason.
Dunno if this is just to make up for the your previous hated xenoblade video, but everything on this game is about the exact same as the original, except for its slow start. Thats like me saying I hate skyrim, because it takes 20+ hours into the game before I could get all the dragonborn abilities and other strong abilities, while the beginning I'm stuck with weak weapons and abilities. Like wut? Lol idk man something about that bugs me.
It's, like, the exact same pacing. It's just proportional to the overall playtime. It took 10 hours to get to the main part of the combat in xc2, a 100 hour game, so it takes 4 hours to get the the main part of torna, a 40 hour game. I've seen your replies to a lot of different comments, and it seems more and more like you're just a fanboy of his who is just regurgitating his opinion without making your own. XC2 was my goty 2017, but that doesn't mean I don't recognize that the voice actor for Rex was rather annoying and that there were too many customization options for me to be willing to take advantage of them. With Torna, the game's quick pace is at the detriment of the story, character building, and world building. You really have not said anything of substance in almost any of your comments, it's almost pathetic. Make your own opinions and compare them with other peoples opinions, don't just latch on to someone else's thoughts and say that they're your own without backing them up at all.
@jesus barrera the pacing in this game was due to complaints from Xenoblade X of having to many systems thrown at once. So in this game, they use ch 1 for introducing basic auto attacks and arts. Ch 2 they introduce blade combos along with coordinating with ai along with blade switching. Ch 3 they introduce driver combos and chain attacks. And special mechanics are added throughout the game. Xenoblade X condensed it into less chapters but a lot of casuals felt lost and overwhelmed.
Huongxeng Chang His biggest point was after 20 hours of gameplay, he was not having fun and the story was not engaging him. Did you actually watch the video? Everyone kept telling him to play more and it gets good but if he’s not even feeling it in the slightest after 20 hours then what’s the point? JRPGS are long games I would know myself, I’v played many and it does take time to hit that peak but from my knowledge all of my favorites I can for sure say I was into them within 20+ hours. So for him to say in all that time he didn’t like it at all? Let him be.
Literally all the combat features u are talking about outside the health switching thing is in the the regular game. U just barely played it and have whined about it every since
@Astral it depends what you mean by gets good. I wouldn't say the story ever gets great in this game. Especially compared to the first xenoblade chronicles. But the depth in the combat system is there from the start. You just have to figure out how to set up your party to take advantage of it. Thats the strategy of the game. The combat is only slow if you don't use the systems to your full advantage
@@BeatEmUps No it's true. When Mythra first appears in Xenoblade 2 that's when the "Tutorial" ends. It's about 10 hours into the Game. If you take into consideration that it takes around 100 hours to finish it that's adequate. They wanted to make it easier for newcomers because in the last xenoblade games many players dropped the game because there where overwhelmed by the battle system. Xenoblade 2 Torna the Golden Country is a lot faster because it expects you to have played the first game. But it's actually missing some features in the battle system from the main game. Therefore you can play as the blades.
Dragon Anime yeah he complained that the game was boring but never got past chapter 2. If he play xenoblade 2 till like chapter 4-5 then it would’ve more understating but he hate on a game he didn’t even get into
Maaaaaan, I have about 200 hours in XC2, and am almost to a full 100%, but I havent played in 8 weeks because of school, but Ill be done this week, and I really lookforward to finishing, and moving on the Golden Country, thanks for you input! I am even more hyped now!
I think I understand now. When Beatem enjoys a game like octopath, I will tend to dislike it.(Too easy, fragmented story). When he dislikes a game, (xb2) my kids and I love it. Customizations, driver setups, hunting drops, interesting combat are what we enjoy.
I actually just started playing XC2 yesterday and although I'm only 6 hrs in, I'm actually liking it a lot. The battle system is fun but there are way too many tutorials in this game and it's tough to retain everything being thrown at me at this point but I see myself finishing XC2 and then moving on to Torna. Nice review, it was definitely a surprise to see you liked it!
When XC3 comes out... I hope they include a sidequest with a bunch of soldiers that repeat that phrase. It went from annoying to meme/iconic for me. When I hear them say it now it brings a smile to my face. •sniffs• "Its Cryin Time!"
Yeah. Some people just have preferences. Although he said in his stream that Loras voice didn't fit her age, he didnt know that Lora was 27. She was meant to look younger than she is. I personally didn't like her JP va at all. He does. At least he enjoyed it in some form
To be fair, I’m sure Monolith Soft was hoping to make the Xenoblade 2 main game what Torna is. They improved the gameplay for Torna based on feedback for XC2. But a huge chunk of their team was taken during development to work on Breath of the Wild. All I can say is thank you XC2 for sacrificing your own potential so that Breath of the Wild can exist as it is 🙏
It is odd, cause half the things he mentioned that he likes are in the base game (Chain Attacks, Element Orbs, Driver Combos (Topple)). Just tells you what to think about Woods oppinions about this game.
The criticisms of the base game are fair, Torna is a lot better at introducing its combat system quickly. However even with XC2’s slow introduction once the game kicks off around Chapter 3 it becomes one of the most rewarding game play experiences I’ve had on the Switch. Also having the experience of the base game makes Torna hit like a truck.
It's incredible until you realize your blade is not being honest with you, still cares deeply for her past driver, and wants to die. The game's story could have been so much better. Pyra and Mythra deserved a much better ending that that!! Much better! It pisses me off how we can't decide what ending we want ourselves and are shackled to the game's auto-plot!
I find it very very hard to believe somebody would like Torna and not the base game. That just indicates the need to give the base game another chance and play way more than a couple hours into it...
Got xb2 after you railed on it so much to check it out. Being from the UK I love the voice acting. It's b grade voice acting and super cheesy but love that the regional UK accents are there it's so funny. Hope to play more if and when I can. Great video as always man
Great review, just wish he stopped hating on the voice acting so much. Like, outside of Rex who only gets better a 1/3 into the campaign, both games have some pretty great voice acting for any non-nopon characters. Haven’t heard that many people say otherwise for that, guess it could be subjective tho
I always find English dubs sounding very forced and it's not just this game. A lot of English dubs are pretty "bad" due to the fact that the voice actors lack the right emotions when acting as compared to the JP actors. Imo it's largely due to the fact that the pool of JP voice actors are largely working in anime/games while the English voice actors are mostly from.. movies/films etc. The style of acting is different. I played the game in Japanese voice and can confirm while some terms and context were changed for.. who knows why, like why Poppi's name is actually Hana(flower) why was there a need to even change that. There are some that are simply sound way dumb in English, like in the early part vs Morag and Rex says the "So together they are like.. ULTRA powerful". It's actually the exact translation from the JP voice without any changes but sounds extremely stupid in English for some reason. The emotions just don't get carried over
TGC is a much shorter game as a result tries to give you most of it's combat possibilities at the start of the game. XC2 is a very long rpg and just like any good rpg is constantly rewarding you for learning the intricacies of its combat and giving you plenty of upgrades and improvements to look forward to. Once you figure out blade combos, it gives you driver combos. Then chain attacks orb bursts. You unlock new and unique blades that all have their own special weapons and abilities. Affinity charts, pouches, aux cores, blade chips. There's so much to manage and improve on and once you get the ability that allows you to chain arts the combat really gets going. There's also endless possibilities based on which character you use not to mention "Just Positioning" which was a hidden mechanic no one even knew about til over a year after the games release which takes your characters distance from the enemy into account for added damage. Yes, XC2 is a slow grind at first, but with an inquisitive interest in it's combat it is endlessly rewarding and there are plenty of fights that rely on strategy that you can't just walk away from and must consider which items you're using and which enemies to focus on and switch. I've put almost 300 hours into the game and can honestly say I'm still learning about how to best use my characters. TGC is a great game for those who want a quick fun, more traditional rpg experience, but XC2 with a little patience is worth the time invested. Also, I can say XC2 doesn't take 20-30 hours to figure out. It throws a little bit at you at a time. I was pretty comfortable with everything I had access to within the first 5 hours of the game. TL;DR- doesn't apply here, just like xenoblade chronicles 2 you'll have to take your time to understand it's greatness
Thanks for giving the expansion a second go. The slow beginning of the base game has been what I tell people who want to play to watch out for. The game is pretty slow for 20 hours, but the game has hundreds of hours of content so they wanted to take their time. Combat definitely is very complex that even after a couple hundred hours you still learn something new.
Basically, what Wood didnt like in the base game, was the first 30 hours. Torna is quite different on its own, but the base game did have the Driver combos (break-topple-launch-smash) and the elemental tiers (i believe theyre called blade combos?) which keeps the fingers busy all throughout. :) I do see how XC2 was starting out way too slow, as i though back in my first 20 hours that XC2 was feeling a bit of a mediocre JRPG, until it opened up waaaay better options in customization and gameplay mechanics.
I agree that the combat is slightly better in torna but everything that you said you liked about it is in the main game (apart from the health recovering from switching but then there's items/blades that have effects from switching such as Ursula- heals [40% hp on a blade switch] and the World Tree Drop [increases damage by 12% on each blade switch]) Liking Mythra in torna but not even seeing how she changed and developed in XC2 and saying that you didn't 'like' the characters in the base game is just so bleh to me, i can't understand. I really like your videos but until you actually finish xenoblade chronicles 2, you're just gonna seem like a tool to me. If you finish the main game and then tell me you don't like the characters, story or combat then fair enough.
When I first played it, the battle system was a turn off, and basically kept playing it for the story. As the game progressed I started to like the battle system more and more...but as you said, it always left you with the senes of something needing to be tweked to make it REALLY enjoyable. I still loved the game, tho.
Actually i think the only reason why golden country clicked and XC2 didn't is that golden country is a little harder at the start forcing you to get good with the combat. XC2 for various reasons such as having Nia a dedicated healer made the game easier and that you didn't have to understand the combat fully to win at fights. This is probably the main reason why XC2 takes longer to get into while golden country is faster to get into. As if you learn the combat of either they are fun to play.
Wow, we are the complete opposite when it comes to the characters. I loved all the characters in the base game so much, which is why this is the only game that made me cry at the end and legit start shaking at the final cutscenes. While In Torna I didn't like the characters as much because I was so used to my fav's
I am outraged that your opinion differs from mine! You should agree with me because both games are amazing! Your complaints on Xenoblade chronicles 2 are valid. I almost put it down for good but then I got sucked in. Torna is streamlined and improved and doesn't have the same issues
I think part of the issue with your disconnect with the story is that yes, it's pretty bland until chapter 5, and even then, its only really considered amazing if you've played Xenoblade Chronicles 1. So I do think you have a valid arguement there.
I've played the game for 500+ hours with NG+ and to be honest Torna has a less "brain dead" combat. I love the base game for it's story and how not only engaging it is but how everyone plays an important role but Rex was just an insufferable Mary Sue and the combat is extremely slow at the beginning and stupidly broken in late game. Healers and Tanks were pointless in late game because you only need damage and sustain. Mythra can be a Tank just because insane crit healing, no, everyone can be a tank just because of that and even the "real tanks" such as Shield Hammers were stupidly bad to a point that is considered the worst weapon class in the game. Bit Balls just had to much cooldown and with a 99999 HP Cap and Enemies that can hit harder than that, healing was pointless and the Gacha System was literally the worst system they could use for RNG and some of the Not RNG Blades were just a GG such as Poppi QTpi and Herald. The game is not bad, it's just not as polished nor balanced as Torna and if they polished the game just as they did with Torna XC2 could had been a Masterpiece.
140 hours in the game and still playing it. One of the best games of the console, and also one of the best of this generation. The story is awesome. At the beginning you dont give much for it, but as you approach the end, all pieces start to match and make a lot of sense. Its fantastic, even more if you are a fan of sci-fi.
9:12... I mean to be fair to both sides of the arguement, I think the issue with the original game isn't the early game combat but rather how it was tutorialised making the early game feel worse than it had too. For example it doesn't really point out well enough that in the early game if you just stand and auto attack it is like "whack, wait 1 second, whack, wait 1 second, hit slightly harder, wait 1 second, hit slightly harder, wait 1 second go back to swing one and repeat" but if you make a minor movement between swings you can cancel the stronger swings and instead swing much quicker allowing you to build arts quicker since they charge via auto attack amount and not damage done, so quicker more interactive combat would be "whack, studder step, wait 9.5 seconds whack, studder step wait 0.5 seconds, repeat generating arts to use much faster. It is an issue with the game yes, but it is not an issue with the combat, it is an issue with how well the game explains the combat. The difference between your first experience and second experience probably isn't so much entirely that they "fixed the combat", but rather if you got use to mid game combat and having to move more you probably took that habit back to the start of the game and so it made the game feel quicker because of that poorly explained mechanic which you probably didn't notice the explanation, heck that mechanic returns in 3 and I only just now found out looking at a lets play for 2 to see if I wanted to buy 2 or not because I was having good fun with 3 and wanted to know if the predicessor was worth it or not. So honestly I think both sides are correct because on one side if you do the combat the way it was intended it is much faster than if you stand around doing nothing, but at the same time you can not be blamed for the games poor explanation, heck I was 9 hours into 3 before finding out I was doing combat wrong and only found it out because of watching a video for an entirely different game, and if that is the case then that is poor tutorialization and not an issue with the player.
When designing a game, its common to try to make the first level the best, most interesting level that you can because it sets the player's expectation for the rest of the game (some games like metroidvanias invert this to surprise the player later). But when an rpg starts out as tedious, uninteresting, limited, and unfair, it really doesnt make you want to keep playing.
That's always has been a major problem with jrpgs and mmorpgs. You get few skills and systems. And after at least a dozen hours, THEN they dump the rest of the gameplay loop on you. If you ain't into the story they are presenting, then it's gonna be a bad time.
I’m gonna have to disagree with most of the points brought up as to why Torna is better. While Xenoblade 2 has a slow start that will be a turn off for many people, I would much rather have that then the story coming to almost a complete stop near the end in Torna. I won’t spoil anything story wise, but the 2 community gates locking you out of progress being so close to each other and the final area before the final boss were flat out annoying. I turned off enemy aggression just so I could get through it without loosing my mind. And Lora’s story also had a weird ending, even from someone who beat the base game. As for the combat, it’s not very different from the base game. The only new additions really were that your other 2 team mates do their own specials when you do your level 3, which is something I doubt many causal players even notice, and the fact that an attack goes off when you switch from driver to blade. Yeah, talent arts are back but those got little use from me and most of them are kinda bad except for Hugo and Minoth’s. The rest of the “new” additions such as healing on a switch in and orbs being put on an enemy after only one special aren’t really new, other blades had the ability to do those things in the base game as well. I will say that the characters in Torna are infinitely better than the ones in Xenoblade 2 and I will take them over the cast in 2 any day. Torna is still a great game and I loved almost every minute of it, but I still have to give my vote to XC2.
I've actually watched a few people stream Torna before playing the main game. What I found was that they were all very confused because unlike the main game, Torna has very little focus on world building (it's relying on your knowledge of the world already). As for me, I found the combat in Torna far too easy. I had to play it on Bringer of Chaos mode to even approach the challenge I had early on in X2 (which I loved). And the sidequest block is just ridiculous, I disliked it immensely...it was unnecessary and completely stops the story at critical times. I really do love this DLC, but I wish they had made it more challenging instead of padding it out with constant fetch quests. I think the main game is better overall, even if I do really enjoy the story of Torna.
sj4iy I totally agree. Some moments are made infinitely better with knowledge of the base game and others are flat out confusing without said knowledge, Like the first gort scene and literally everything in the end cutscene. I like community system, but the gates totally killed it for me. I would have done all the side quests anyways, don’t force me to do it when I want to see how the story ends. Also gating off the only super boss in the game behind some obscure stone tablet fetch quest is just dumb and unnecessary. I didn’t mention this earlier, but the crafting is basically pointless aside from Hugo and Addams and I kinda hate it.
So what you're saying is.... you're going to go back to XB2 because you know it got better.... because literally everything you're mentioning for the DLC is mechanics from it. Nothing is new mechanic wise, you just didnt give XB2 the proper chance it deserved
Did you really play Xenoblade Chronicles 2? From what you are saying, it seems like you didn’t even make it past the tutorial...90% of the things you like about the combat in the expansion are in the original game....
Also the auto attacks are notably faster in the base game. Jin for example, he is much faster for the brief time you control him in the base game than he is in torna
@@AAA-vf2qr he can do whatever he wants.he's not a journalist, he's just a dude. He has no obligation to thoroughly play through every game he plays to talk about it.
Hi all, reading all the positive comments here re XB2 base game makes me very happy. I've really enjoyed XB2 and especially the battle system with driver/blade combos etc, affinity charts, various blades, blade quests. You need to learn it as it is a bit complex or might be a bit complex for some people. The art is amazing and way beyond any other game I've played in my 35 years of extensive gaming. Walking through Temperantia is amazingly beautiful and exciting, especially when you are at a low level :)
wood, i love you, i really do, and i love that you love the prequel. but please, please, PLEASE at least try to finish the base game, PLEASE and then see if your opinion changes on it.
I'm glad to see that you actually liked this one. I love Xenoblade 2's combat and even still seeing your anti-review made me really respect your opinion and in turn subscribe. I very well did notice the improvements but still wasn't sure if you'd enjoy it. It's nice to see you enjoy a game many have been wanting you to like.
Thank you Beat Em Ups for the honest review, no matter what others think, ultimately, it's your opinion, and respect that about you, keep up the good work!
You see it was the other way around for me, I absolutely loved xenoblade however really didn't find much entertainment in octopath traveler as it felt very repetitive.
Well I just impulse bought Torna when I saw it for cheap in Game (honestly £25 second-hand being "cheap" still hurts as a PC gamer) and this review is making me feel a lot more confident in my new purchase. I wanted XC2 but will wait till I can get it for less than £30..
i really like your channel and the way you are doing videos, but honestly, as i viewed this, i couldn't help myself to constantly think "play more of the original game and you will like it because the things xou point out here are all in the original game (mostly)". But on the other hand i appreciate you being as honest as saying that you somewhat know of the stuff but don't want to play 40 hours until it all opens up... true about that. In the end, i decided to name XBlade2 my all time favourite RPG (even over terranigma, suikoden 2 and final fantasy 7, which i never thought would happen)... keep it up, dude
I think the only things they changed in the combat are they added vanguard switch, talent art, and made elemental orbs happen at any blade combo level instead of just at the last level. Otherwise it really is just base game but way smaller tutorial section and no gacha blade pulling
Pretty sure the reason the first game took so long to get these features due to people getting confused from X and 1 having little to no explanations of the combat system. Then people can't wait long enough to get to meat of the game despite them having asked for the opposite so Torna happened. Yeah. Its all our fault.
When I first got XC2, I wasnt a big fan of it. I really only kept playing because I didnt want the $60 I dropped for it to be wasted. However, by the end, I was hooked. It does have a very slow start, so I dont blame anybody who says they dropped or dont like the game because it was slow plot-wise. As for the combat, in the beginning it is very slow. Endgame bosses though are a nice challenge. You actually need to prepare and pay a lot of attention during those fights. Basically everything about this game kinda sucks towards the beginning, but I think they do get better by the end. Except voice acting. I never got to like Rex and Toras voices. Again, I still dont think somebody should suffer through boring parts of a game just to get to the good stuff. All the people saying "____ gets a lot better after 20 hours" need to keep in mind that this game really isnt for everyone, and you need to be really patient with this it sometimes.
I felt the same as woods at first but there is a barrier to break before things click and i think its when the combo arts fully open up the game becomes great
I feel like your comparing essentially the same thing against each other. XC2 and Torna are essentially the same game the only difference is XC2 is a 200+ hour content game while Torna caps at 40~50hours. They are both good it's just that you didn't XC2 long enough to make accurate comparisons.
I remember the original review of XC2, being a huge Xeno fan, I originally thought he was way off base, putting 250 hrs, lv. 99 and taking down the superbosses post game. I had no issue with it...then I played Torna. It's funny, as I didn't notice the original's flaws until playing Torna, and I can say that this "fanboy" can see his gripes about the original game as valid; except for subjective opinions on story, etc. Actually, not sure if he touched on this, but my least favorite part of XC2 is the skill roadblocks (where you had to level up stuff like Forestry, Botany, etc.) required to advance the story...
Also the “dugeons” in XB2 were a slog. The old factory and spirit crucible were parts where I straight up quit the game on 2nd and 3rd play throughs. I couldn’t mentally handle fighting the same chickens for 2 hours again
I felt the same way @BeatEmUps did, though I actually played the game for 100 hours despite not really enjoying it. What I find funny about this video though is, 90% of what was discussed about what made the combat interesting is just late-game combat from the original base game. So, when people said "it gets good 40 hours in", yeah, what you get in Torna is mostly what you got when you put the time into the base game. I'm probably going to avoid Torna myself though. I didn't enjoy the base game after 100 hours, so it's pretty hard for me to believe that I would enjoy Torna that much more.
@@casualtap1794 I didn't have much new to play at the time and I kept hoping maybe it would get more enjoyable. It also has it's moments, some of the stories I enjoyed a bit, and mechanics do change over time. But overall I find it was leaning far too heavily on anime tropes for me to enjoy the main plot or most of the side stories. It has far less charm in my opinion than the original Xenoblade Chronicles.
@@lpsoldin3162 as im observing, if someone plays xc2 first, he would say it’s better than xc1. But for someone else playing xc1 first, then xc1 would be better for him. U seem to like xc1 more. So is this the case?
@@lpsoldin3162What makes Xenoblade amazing Is the story, I think If the person cant enjoy the story It Is better playing another game. I played 60 hours of Xenoblade 2 and I love It, there are some things I dont like about the gameplay, like how the game makes you use Field Skills to keep moving on in the Story, or some Bosses at the end that are a few overleveld and I had to grind. It Is not like If I dont like the gameplay, I like walking in the titans, feel the atmosphere, fighting against some enemies, kill the Unique enemies and etc, but what really make me love this game is its story, Zelda Botw is a game I love because of its gameplay. Xenoblade makes the mistake of forcing you to battle countless enemies to get XP or taking away the immersion with the game by forcing you to use field skills when it's a game wanting to tell a story, but I think Xenoblade 3 fixed that, It Is what people say, I havent played but I hope It Is true. Next time I'll play Ng+ and most of my issues will be gone I think, I will can enjoy the story while I can enjoy the world too and only fight when I want, Although I will be overleveld in most of the Titans, If I could manipulate my levels...
Why people hate the voices on this game? I like the voice acting, it is not the best but it is good. I do which to change it to japanese but Rex English accent and Nia Scott-ish accent and Pyras indifference voice has grown on me. Ok you don't find the story interesting.... Man I respect your opinion but I am done with this video... Mythra is on the first game. Around 12 hours in she gets introduce....
I like the overall improvements in Torna for the most part. It's mostly what is missing that I dislike. I feel like combat is a struggle unless I'm stronger than the enemy and that is precisely for one reason. The Attacker/Healer/Tank mechanic is gone. Haze is the only healer and the AI constantly switches the vanguard or swaps blades and you have no way of controlling it. If you want a healer you are forced to control Haze. A couple people have a Art with draw aggro but that's it. There is no dedicated Tank. I was forced to grind on weak enemies and spam all the sidequests asap so I wouldn't wipe out everytime on the bosses because of it. It's these two things that ruined Torna's combat for me.
I needed the slow battle progression in the base game. It took a while to figure it out. But the battle system between the two games is almost identical.
Oh boy, here we go.
Nicely done again man! Love the videos
Are you happy HBK is back
Do they call you wood because you're a block head?

will you give a new try to the base game now that you have a small idea of what the gameplay will become futher on in the game? :3
@@MrServantRider yeah i was just noting how much he loved mythra and stopped before her introduction in the main game
I stopped the game right before Mythra then one year later I decided to play the game. After chapter 3 I was sooo hooked lol
Mythra in the main game is kinda dull. In Torna she has more charisma. She doesn't really add anything in the game for me
It’s easy to see how little you played the original game, when you say that you love the new characters in Torna and mentions Mythra.
I didn't say Mythra was a new character. Both Mythra and Lora have a stronger presence in this game and are more of the focus.
riperino OP
Smh salty fanboy
Eliman8 III yeah you didn’t get past there. There is so much more to everything there
what's funny is everything you love in the combat in the expansion is pretty much unlock in the base game at chapter 3 which is pretty early on ^^
Im 130 hours in the main game and dont see that anywhere.
TTGC is way faster and engaging than 2s.
I would say Chapter 3/4. Chapter 3 = unlock Chain attack. Chapter 4 = unlock switch from Pyra & Mytha and poppi upgrade.
yes, that switching blades start from Chapter 4. Well, he did not spend the 20hours in the beginning. ..LOL
Well guess what? I could topple right from the get go in Xenoblade Chronicles.
Unpopular opinion:
I love xenoblade chronicles 2 more than breath of the wild.
Same!
Mythra is in the main game lmao
He said it focused more on them
He didnt get that far. He played like an hour
Wall Chicken he played 53 hours. He showed his save in his newest video.

Solcrailtis thank you
The same reason why I unsub and stick to the other Nintendo-centric reviewers.
I didn't really care for the story in the first one either.
The story in the first game was amazing. I really loved the peaks about xenoblade X in the old human world!
the director of these games recently said story isn't important for rpg's, the world is. this is why the games will continue to suck, and the crappy battle system
I'm pretty sure he just said he wasn't into the story, not that he didn't understand it. You can understand a story and not like it.
KH in a nutshell, do you have the post link?
I love a lot of your videos, but yeah... I disagreed with you on the xenoblade chronicles 2 video. Love both the main game and the prequel for its amazing combo system.
I too, love it when combat turns into watching a loading screen.

I agree
He doesn't know how to play this game decently at all, going by the gameplay
Tin Can just listen how he complains about how slow Rex swings his sword. He obviously doesn’t even know know how to cancel his auto attacks. And him complaining about tells voice acting is laughable. The characters are very memorable and a lot of character depth, sometimes it’s cheese yes.

The STORY on both of them are just soooo amazing I literally shed a tear at the end of the base game and Tornas story takes you playing all of the base game to truly enjoy it
Base the base game gets similarily enhanced by playing Torna, the scene with Jin and Fan in Temperantia especially.
For sure. I also shed a tear at the ending cut scene.
Really? The story's pretty generic to me.

He doesn't likes story because he never saw the story, so how can he know he doesn't likes a story... IF HE NEVER EXPERIENCE SAID STORY!?
You can switch which character you want to control in X2 unless you were just talking storywise.
Rex and pyra absolutely SUCK
What’s wrong with Pyra?
Tyler Mitchell Nothing. While it’s normally immature to assume things like this, I’m pretty sure most people hating on the game (on this channel at least) haven’t actually played it.
100% agree
Torna is easier to pick up early, but once you get to the endgame in XC2 with blades like Poppi QT Pi, it gets much better.
Completely disagree on both videos, but as long as this means you'll stop using XBC2 as the butt of jokes because you didn't enjoy it, I'm happy.

and even if it was a review, bad reviews for good games doesn't make someone a bad reviewer.

Literally everything you like about this game is in the first if you play for long enough
Yeah, but waiting 40 hours to enjoy it isn't fun
@@Peltonimo you have all of that after 10hours Not 40
nah it does take like... 20-25 hours, and then you have another 100hrs+ with the fun combat system soo.... still worth the wait
@@Eredom for what do you need 20 hours?
Maybe I am a slow player but after 10 hours I wasn't even done with Gormott. Maybe if you just take your time and don't rush, you take 20hrs to unlock everything.
How excited you got about the Torna combat is pretty much what happens mid way in the base game.
Jacob Stephens but he stated that you shouldn’t have to wait so long playing a game you’re not really enjoying for it to finally get good
@@ill_luck that's literally every JRPG though
Ram it’s really not. Like Octopath Traveler. That game IMO is really fun through your the entire game
@@ill_luck hard disagree. Only 2 characters prologs are anything more than menial
Ram well that’s your opinion. I personally thought all the stories and characters were interesting except parts of Olberics and Ophilias
I don’t understand how someone cannot enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I’ve never found a game that’s pulled me in as much as Xenoblade 2 has.
MushaGundamMKIII i feel the same way
MushaGundamMKIII I don’t like the combat, imo it’s boring
It's called different tastes my boi. That being said, what do like about the games? I've been considering picking them up but been on the fence since it came out.
Panpatoes until I discovered just how in depth the combat of the base game was with chaining elemental orbs, I wasn’t too into it either. But the narrative alone in XC2 kept me playing that game nonstop.
I loved the first Xenoblade and X, and I thought XC2 was just ok.
SoulFire I like the XENOBLADE Chronicles 2 I beat it I think it’s the best game I’ve ever played I love All the characters
Xenoblade 1's combat was amazing though. The gimmick of being able to see the future and change it is really cool as well.
Hollandia I complain about blade 1 all the time, felt like gears was better
I liked Xenoblade 2 from slow start to end. The start for me lastest probably about 80hours for never could figure out Chain attack (I ended up googling a bit then steam rolled the game from there.) Spent about 450 hours in total (Including XC2 and The golden Country). My fav game I played on the switch so far.
215h in Xenoblade 2. Level 99, still completing missions and affinity charts, enjoying the dlc extra content (specially the blades). I have already finished Torna (35h), but I'm still level 67 or something similar and my affinity charts suck, so I have many things to do yet!
You can switch blades?
You can do chain attacks?
Yo! I bet you can’t do that in the base game!
I don't understand how you can compare 2 combat systems without actually fully playing both. Please do full research before you influence the masses on your opinion. Love the content though!
After 15 hours you still hate then its not for you.... why should he do it more
Just button mashing? Sounds like you spend 10 hours in Xenoblade 2 and didn’t even learn how to cancel auto attacking, actually it just sounds like you didn’t even play the game. You LITERALLY CAN NOT just auto your way through the game. You understand that the first area in any video game is usually idk easy? I appreciate your videos but you’re complaining about things that you didn’t even figure out. It’s pretty tilting that you play the DLC but you couldn’t get past 20 hours in the vanilla game.
Mimu Mi honestly can’t even tell if that’s sarcasm
I prefer my reviewers to finish the game too.
How can you not?
Torna, however, is much shorter - around one third the time needed to beat the base game - and thus is forced to teach faster.
jesus barrera the whole I won’t review Xenoblade 2 was a basically a review
This is a great comment, thank you for being respectful, this is an example of what all pioneers of the information age should strive for.
Do you like hating things?
half of the things you said are better in torna the goldan country are in xenoblade chronicles 2
yes, but its introduced early on instead of unlockable
How could anyone say Xenoblade 2 is a bad game? I just don't get it.
long story short, just about everything mentioned is in the main game :)
Just say "I haven't played that game yet."
Because there are LEGITIMATE criticisms when it comes to this game... like... the gachapon system.
@Elite Gamer Bro that grind for the Giant Robot is so long though.
@Blake Nasternak I raise a cow thing, and beat it to death like 50 times.
@Blake Nasternak you can farm common wind blades to increase your chances of getting her
Benjamin Woodham I agree with you completely
It’s my favourite game of all time.
The only reason he says it’s bad is because of the long wait for things to get going and yes that could get annoying but some of the best RPGS of all time have it way worse
There’s no way someone could say the wait for this to get going is worse then kingdom hearts 2
I got Kos Mos on accident as my second rare blade without even knowing he was that hard to get...
Its a jrpg tho like what do yall expect?
I like your comment. Pretty much sums up why I haven't gotten XBC2 yet (and the waypoint system too)
You obviously have never played a xenoblade game...they all take 100 hours. Just stick to madden I guess.
Ya will a reviewer is SUPPOSD to play the ENTIRE game first
Dunno if this is just to make up for the your previous hated xenoblade video, but everything on this game is about the exact same as the original, except for its slow start.
U just barely played it and have whined about it every since
Incorrect
really? I've put 230 hr into xenoblade 2. tell me where I'm wrong
It most likely takes a LONG time for it to get good, and even if it is just 10 hours that is way too long. The combat just looks slow to me.
They literally changed nothing with the combat... it's genuinely exactly the same as XC2. Sounds like you finally got the concept of blade swapping.
The problem is he didn't play long enough to find that out
Dragon Anime yeah he complained that the game was boring but never got past chapter 2.

I'm a fan of the slow build, personally. Leaves time to get immersed in the world before the plot really takes hold. Just my opinion, though.
Bombchu i agree
What the heck? The Xenoblade Chronicles 2 voice acting is ART
Yeah. Some people just have preferences. Although he said in his stream that Loras voice didn't fit her age, he didnt know that Lora was 27. She was meant to look younger than she is. I personally didn't like her JP va at all. He does. At least he enjoyed it in some form
The combat in the base game felt weird at first. Then I learned auto attack canceling.
**YOU CAN MANUALLY ATTACK IN THE GAME??**
THIS MIGHT MAKE THE GAME GOOD
To be fair, I’m sure Monolith Soft was hoping to make the Xenoblade 2 main game what Torna is. They improved the gameplay for Torna based on feedback for XC2. But a huge chunk of their team was taken during development to work on Breath of the Wild. All I can say is thank you XC2 for sacrificing your own potential so that Breath of the Wild can exist as it is 🙏
Wait so you like the combat of Torna, but not of base Xeno 2? Wut
He does explain why, to be fair. He even says he still doesn't think it's for him even after the improvements.
Everyone seems to be like that. What's so odd about that? It's odd that you can't understand why!
It is odd, cause half the things he mentioned that he likes are in the base game (Chain Attacks, Element Orbs, Driver Combos (Topple)). Just tells you what to think about Woods oppinions about this game.
8:16
It's funny how he praises Torna's combat when in reality it has less complexity than the base game!
The intro to XenobladeChronicles 2 was horrible. I felt the game wasn't fun until I was like 8 or so hours in.
10:28 Lol his reaction to Xenoblade 3 said otherwise
The criticisms of the base game are fair, Torna is a lot better at introducing its combat system quickly.
However even with XC2’s slow introduction once the game kicks off around Chapter 3 it becomes one of the most rewarding game play experiences I’ve had on the Switch. Also having the experience of the base game makes Torna hit like a truck.
The Story on XC2 main game is incredible regardless of the way you look at it
It's incredible until you realize your blade is not being honest with you, still cares deeply for her past driver, and wants to die. The game's story could have been so much better. Pyra and Mythra deserved a much better ending that that!! Much better! It pisses me off how we can't decide what ending we want ourselves and are shackled to the game's auto-plot!
imagine a xenoblade 3 with torna's refined combat and xenoblade 2's waifu pokemon system. Pure ecstasy
here it is. september 2022
The emotions just don't get carried over
I think he just didn't play enough of XC2. I learned about that tree thing in the corner when i was in the middle of the game
I do see how XC2 was starting out way too slow, as i though back in my first 20 hours that XC2 was feeling a bit of a mediocre JRPG, until it opened up waaaay better options in customization and gameplay mechanics.
I agree that the combat is slightly better in torna but everything that you said you liked about it is in the main game (apart from the health recovering from switching but then there's items/blades that have effects from switching such as Ursula- heals [40% hp on a blade switch] and the World Tree Drop [increases damage by 12% on each blade switch])
Liking Mythra in torna but not even seeing how she changed and developed in XC2 and saying that you didn't 'like' the characters in the base game is just so bleh to me, i can't understand. I really like your videos but until you actually finish xenoblade chronicles 2, you're just gonna seem like a tool to me. If you finish the main game and then tell me you don't like the characters, story or combat then fair enough.
So rude for no reason man he was really respectful when giving his opinion and even humbled it by saying he knows he didn't finish the game. Chill out
Obviously he didnt pay much attention to the main game because you rarely fight humans.
_"It's time...let's talk about the combat."_
*_[Preroll add immediatley begins playing.]_*
They probably learned from their mistakes from your review of Xenoblade Chronicles 2
M
So what you're saying is.... you're going to go back to XB2 because you know it got better.... because literally everything you're mentioning for the DLC is mechanics from it. Nothing is new mechanic wise, you just didnt give XB2 the proper chance it deserved
Did you really play Xenoblade Chronicles 2? From what you are saying, it seems like you didn’t even make it past the tutorial...90% of the things you like about the combat in the expansion are in the original game....

The game wasn't missing any of this. Shows how much you played
Also the auto attacks are notably faster in the base game. Jin for example, he is much faster for the brief time you control him in the base game than he is in torna
he already addressed that. no he didn't play much of the original. because it was too boring for him
@@WiiFan20XX then he shouldn't have "reviewed" it.

@@AAA-vf2qr he can do whatever he wants.he's not a journalist, he's just a dude. He has no obligation to thoroughly play through every game he plays to talk about it.
WiiFan20XX yeah, but now other people are gonna be turned off from the game because of his "review"
Its almost like they tricked him into liking the original xenoblade chronicles 2 by telling him to play Torna and he doesn't realize it.
Lol there's only a small selection of sections with human soldiers. they leave in like literally the next chapter
i really like your channel and the way you are doing videos, but honestly, as i viewed this, i couldn't help myself to constantly think "play more of the original game and you will like it because the things xou point out here are all in the original game (mostly)".
"The combat was just button pressing" isn't that.....literally every game?
I think the only things they changed in the combat are they added vanguard switch, talent art, and made elemental orbs happen at any blade combo level instead of just at the last level.
Otherwise it really is just base game but way smaller tutorial section and no gacha blade pulling
Dude your videos keep me sane and happy whenever im sad XD
All the people saying "____ gets a lot better after 20 hours" need to keep in mind that this game really isnt for everyone, and you need to be really patient with this it sometimes.
muffinz I know I’m so late but towards the end I actually kinda liked Rex’s voice I think it just grew on me but for Tora it was just funny
The fast combat of torna is what the end game of xenonlade chronicles 2 was like. It just happened a lot faster.
2:12 I really like Mthrya in this one Mthrya in the first game: I’m I a joke to you?!?!
I felt the same as woods at first but there is a barrier to break before things click and i think its when the combo arts fully open up the game becomes great
You also cant just autobattle and put the switch down in xenoblade 2's base game you will get wasted
I couldn’t mentally handle fighting the same chickens for 2 hours again
dunno, torna combat is too much simplified, there is no fun anymore
I felt the same way @BeatEmUps did, though I actually played the game for 100 hours despite not really enjoying it.
What I find funny about this video though is, 90% of what was discussed about what made the combat interesting is just late-game combat from the original base game. So, when people said "it gets good 40 hours in", yeah, what you get in Torna is mostly what you got when you put the time into the base game.
I'm probably going to avoid Torna myself though. I didn't enjoy the base game after 100 hours, so it's pretty hard for me to believe that I would enjoy Torna that much more.
@@Emily848 that's what I thought too
It is supposed to be fun and entertaining. Why tortured yourself 100hrs?
The biggest thing that's missing from Torna tho...
Nia.
I needed the slow battle progression in the base game. It took a while to figure it out. But the battle system between the two games is almost identical.
