Starting a story is experiencing a story, if it doesn't grab you, interest you at the start how likely are you to continue just in case it gets good later?
There is no guarantee that he will like the story if he finishes the game, why should he waste the time to find out when he has subjectively better things to do?
Time is limited, he chose to prioritise his time doing something he enjoys more, end of story.
And to add context, I'm a massive Tetsuya Takahashi fan and I loved these games, but that doesn't mean someone else will have the same experience.

    • @SonicMaster211

Look at it like this... What if, the story does hooks you from the start... but then starts going down and down of quality, all because they wrote to much of a hooking beginning, instead of a overall good story just with a slow start? What do you rather? A slow start but overall a great story, or a drawing interesting start... only for the story to drop an hour in because they were worrying about an attention grabber?

    • @danielfielke3895
      @danielfielke3895 5 лет назад +3

Sonic, slow start does not mean a bad story. An individual's enjoyment of a story and it's characters are purely subjective.
What is so hard about accepting that someone wasn't interested in a story you enjoyed?
I can guarantee without any shadow of a doubt that there are stories out there that you absolutely loathe that others found incredibly enjoyable, because that's how varied the human species is.
      Accept it and move on.

I like him, but if he does want to be a respectable reviewer, he needs to get professional and stop comparing games to one he refused to play more to give an actual opinion and not be half-assed. Just because this one is of the same source, doesn't mean he can without playing more of the main game. People need to think logically for once and stop defending him cause they think they will be his best friend. Again, doesn't make him a bad person in the slightest, but did lose respect to him as a reviewer a tad bit. I haven't played either version, so people can put down their idiotic comments of me being a fanboy towards Xenoblade 2.

Xenoblade 2 is certainly not a game for everyone, but I think people who say the game sucks are people who shouldn't be playing JRPGs in the first place. If you don't like stories, don't like the battle system, go play another game. This game is not for you. For the demographic Xenoblade 2 does target, it does its job as a JRPG very well, and I know most JRPG fans really enjoyed the game. Most RPGs start real slow and Xenoblade 1 was just as guilty on that front, yet you hear nobody complain about that game's battle system. If anything, Xenoblade 1's battle system is very clunky and outdated, yet everyone still thinks it's a masterpiece. In most RPGs, you can't do more than a few things during battle when you start off. The game rewards you greatly for grinding and exploring and makes the combat way more fun and smooth when you put in the efford to do that. If you don't like doing that, then the game is not for you. Do I think the game could have started off faster? Yes, definitely, and Torna Golden Country proves as much. I personally like both battle systems but I agree TGC starts off much faster and feels more refined. There is room for improvement, but from my subjective standpoint, Xenoblade 2 is a good game with a few flaws.

Like it or not, Torna is much more approachable and faster paced than Xenoblade 2.
I love both games, though I like the base game considerably more. I actually like the slow build. It allows for great character moments and it helps you get attached to the story. However, I greatly appreciate what Torna did by expanding the lore though. Or, not expanding, just giving you the chance to play through everything that led up to Xenoblade 2. And the nuanced combat system is really great as well.
Thanks for giving Torna a chance, glad it was more up your alley. And sorry Xenoblade 2 wasn't fast enough for you. I can understand that, though I cannot fathom myself feeling that way about it.
Also, I absolutely adore the English dub in both games. No joke. I tried playing it with Japanese audio, but it felt so wrong. I just love how wacky and over-the-top it is, while at the same time being full of heart. Nia, Morag, and Pyra/Mythra were my favorite voices in the base game, and Lora, Addam, and Mythra were great in Torna, in my opinion.

You have to take his comparison in context with his experience, XenoChron made him want to stop playing Ys made him want to keep going, that a perfectly acceptable personal comparison. Personally I'd switch it the other way around but we're different people so that's to be expected.

It's, like, the exact same pacing. It's just proportional to the overall playtime. It took 10 hours to get to the main part of the combat in xc2, a 100 hour game, so it takes 4 hours to get the the main part of torna, a 40 hour game. I've seen your replies to a lot of different comments, and it seems more and more like you're just a fanboy of his who is just regurgitating his opinion without making your own. XC2 was my goty 2017, but that doesn't mean I don't recognize that the voice actor for Rex was rather annoying and that there were too many customization options for me to be willing to take advantage of them. With Torna, the game's quick pace is at the detriment of the story, character building, and world building. You really have not said anything of substance in almost any of your comments, it's almost pathetic. Make your own opinions and compare them with other peoples opinions, don't just latch on to someone else's thoughts and say that they're your own without backing them up at all.

@jesus barrera the pacing in this game was due to complaints from Xenoblade X of having to many systems thrown at once. So in this game, they use ch 1 for introducing basic auto attacks and arts. Ch 2 they introduce blade combos along with coordinating with ai along with blade switching. Ch 3 they introduce driver combos and chain attacks. And special mechanics are added throughout the game. Xenoblade X condensed it into less chapters but a lot of casuals felt lost and overwhelmed.

Everyone kept telling him to play more and it gets good but if he’s not even feeling it in the slightest after 20 hours then what’s the point? JRPGS are long games I would know myself, I’v played many and it does take time to hit that peak but from my knowledge all of my favorites I can for sure say I was into them within 20+ hours. • @Nuvendil
      @Nuvendil 5 лет назад +18

@@aleph7056 do you mean how can you not auto your way through the game? Simple, the game continuously ramps up challenge over the course of the game and a ton of bosses, field bosses, and even just normal enemies have extremely dangerous arts, unique abilities that can be very problematic, and when they reach their rage state they will absolutely destroy you if you aren't careful. Using arts wisely, setting up special combos quickly, using those special combos to seal enemy abilities, and reaching a Full Burst chain attack quickly become very important. The game gives you time to learn all of this in a safer environment before dumping all of this on you. And in the base game there are also no fixed roles. Each character can be any class or blend of classes and that also effects how you play.
All of this is in Torna, but in a different way. The best way to look at it is that Torna is more reactionary, it's about making snap decisions. The base game is about strategizing ahead, it requires more forethought. Both have their charms but in NEITHER game can you auto attack your way to victory for much of the game. Torna, however, is much shorter - around one third the time needed to beat the base game - and thus is forced to teach faster.

9:12... I mean to be fair to both sides of the arguement, I think the issue with the original game isn't the early game combat but rather how it was tutorialised making the early game feel worse than it had too. For example it doesn't really point out well enough that in the early game if you just stand and auto attack it is like "whack, wait 1 second, whack, wait 1 second, hit slightly harder, wait 1 second, hit slightly harder, wait 1 second go back to swing one and repeat" but if you make a minor movement between swings you can cancel the stronger swings and instead swing much quicker allowing you to build arts quicker since they charge via auto attack amount and not damage done, so quicker more interactive combat would be "whack, studder step, wait 9.5 seconds whack, studder step wait 0.5 seconds, repeat generating arts to use much faster. It is an issue with the game yes, but it is not an issue with the combat, it is an issue with how well the game explains the combat. The difference between your first experience and second experience probably isn't so much entirely that they "fixed the combat", but rather if you got use to mid game combat and having to move more you probably took that habit back to the start of the game and so it made the game feel quicker because of that poorly explained mechanic which you probably didn't notice the explanation, heck that mechanic returns in 3 and I only just now found out looking at a lets play for 2 to see if I wanted to buy 2 or not because I was having good fun with 3 and wanted to know if the predicessor was worth it or not.
So honestly I think both sides are correct because on one side if you do the combat the way it was intended it is much faster than if you stand around doing nothing, but at the same time you can not be blamed for the games poor explanation, heck I was 9 hours into 3 before finding out I was doing combat wrong and only found it out because of watching a video for an entirely different game, and if that is the case then that is poor tutorialization and not an issue with the player.

I felt the same way @BeatEmUps did, though I actually played the game for 100 hours despite not really enjoying it.
What I find funny about this video though is, 90% of what was discussed about what made the combat interesting is just late-game combat from the original base game. So, when people said "it gets good 40 hours in", yeah, what you get in Torna is mostly what you got when you put the time into the base game.
I'm probably going to avoid Torna myself though. I didn't enjoy the base game after 100 hours, so it's pretty hard for me to believe that I would enjoy Torna that much more.

@@lpsoldin3162What makes Xenoblade amazing Is the story, I think If the person cant enjoy the story It Is better playing another game. I played 60 hours of Xenoblade 2 and I love It, there are some things I dont like about the gameplay, like how the game makes you use Field Skills to keep moving on in the Story, or some Bosses at the end that are a few overleveld and I had to grind. It Is not like If I dont like the gameplay, I like walking in the titans, feel the atmosphere, fighting against some enemies, kill the Unique enemies and etc, but what really make me love this game is its story, Zelda Botw is a game I love because of its gameplay. Xenoblade makes the mistake of forcing you to battle countless enemies to get XP or taking away the immersion with the game by forcing you to use field skills when it's a game wanting to tell a story, but I think Xenoblade 3 fixed that, It Is what people say, I havent played but I hope It Is true.
Next time I'll play Ng+ and most of my issues will be gone I think, I will can enjoy the story while I can enjoy the world too and only fight when I want, Although I will be overleveld in most of the Titans, If I could manipulate my levels...

Great review, just wish he stopped hating on the voice acting so much. Like, outside of Rex who only gets better a 1/3 into the campaign, both games have some pretty great voice acting for any non-nopon characters. Haven’t heard that many people say otherwise for that, guess it could be subjective tho

I always find English dubs sounding very forced and it's not just this game. A lot of English dubs are pretty "bad" due to the fact that the voice actors lack the right emotions when acting as compared to the JP actors. Imo it's largely due to the fact that the pool of JP voice actors are largely working in anime/games while the English voice actors are mostly from.. movies/films etc. The style of acting is different.
I played the game in Japanese voice and can confirm while some terms and context were changed for.. who knows why, like why Poppi's name is actually Hana(flower) why was there a need to even change that. There are some that are simply sound way dumb in English, like in the early part vs Morag and Rex says the "So together they are like.. ULTRA powerful". It's actually the exact translation from the JP voice without any changes but sounds extremely stupid in English for some reason. The emotions just don't get carried over

When designing a game, its common to try to make the first level the best, most interesting level that you can because it sets the player's expectation for the rest of the game (some games like metroidvanias invert this to surprise the player later). But when an rpg starts out as tedious, uninteresting, limited, and unfair, it really doesnt make you want to keep playing.

I like the overall improvements in Torna for the most part. It's mostly what is missing that I dislike. I feel like combat is a struggle unless I'm stronger than the enemy and that is precisely for one reason. The Attacker/Healer/Tank mechanic is gone. Haze is the only healer and the AI constantly switches the vanguard or swaps blades and you have no way of controlling it. If you want a healer you are forced to control Haze. A couple people have a Art with draw aggro but that's it. There is no dedicated Tank. I was forced to grind on weak enemies and spam all the sidequests asap so I wouldn't wipe out everytime on the bosses because of it. It's these two things that ruined Torna's combat for me.

This video is old but still will leave a comment in case you read it:
I fell in love with Xenoblade when I saw Xenoblade X exploration and fight trailer at E3 some year. All 4 games and loved them all. Combat IS indeed more fluid in Torna than in XC2, you can get orbs with every special and not just a 3 proper which makes dealing with harder enemies faster and easier to execute a full burst in chain attack. However, it still is pushing buttons like XC2 that does not change. (And in any of both games if you leave your switch and let the fight be decided by mere auto attacks you will die fighting enemies your own level and below).
Anyways I'm kind of new to your channel, love it, keep it up!

I'm at 250 hours, I have every blade, I'm level 99. Rex is not slow. He's only slow in like, the first five or so hours.
Do the merc missions, buy stuff, get the deeds. He speeds up. I can do that in under 5 hours in NG+. USE YOUR EXPANSION PASS DUDE. You can customize the settings to make the healthbar of the enemies go down.
If you haven't participated in the grind to get Kos Mos, you have no right to say anything bad about Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Just say "I haven't played that game yet."
Because there are LEGITIMATE criticisms when it comes to this game... like... the gachapon system. I wish you'd talk about that, because right now, beating the gachapon system was the majority of my playthrough.
Instead of going deep into the systems and describing the REAL flaws of this game, you're just a filthy causal complaining about balancing that you could literally change on your own with the expansion pass that comes FREE with Torna.
I'm deep into this game... that's true and I do enjoy it. It's one of my favorite games. But I'm also saying there are DEEP deep flaws with it that you are missing entirely because you didn't actually play the game.

Actually i think the only reason why golden country clicked and XC2 didn't is that golden country is a little harder at the start forcing you to get good with the combat. XC2 for various reasons such as having Nia a dedicated healer made the game easier and that you didn't have to understand the combat fully to win at fights.
This is probably the main reason why XC2 takes longer to get into while golden country is faster to get into. As if you learn the combat of either they are fun to play.

TGC is a much shorter game as a result tries to give you most of it's combat possibilities at the start of the game. XC2 is a very long rpg and just like any good rpg is constantly rewarding you for learning the intricacies of its combat and giving you plenty of upgrades and improvements to look forward to. Once you figure out blade combos, it gives you driver combos. Then chain attacks orb bursts. You unlock new and unique blades that all have their own special weapons and abilities. Affinity charts, pouches, aux cores, blade chips. There's so much to manage and improve on and once you get the ability that allows you to chain arts the combat really gets going. There's also endless possibilities based on which character you use not to mention "Just Positioning" which was a hidden mechanic no one even knew about til over a year after the games release which takes your characters distance from the enemy into account for added damage.
Yes, XC2 is a slow grind at first, but with an inquisitive interest in it's combat it is endlessly rewarding and there are plenty of fights that rely on strategy that you can't just walk away from and must consider which items you're using and which enemies to focus on and switch. I've put almost 300 hours into the game and can honestly say I'm still learning about how to best use my characters. TGC is a great game for those who want a quick fun, more traditional rpg experience, but XC2 with a little patience is worth the time invested. Also, I can say XC2 doesn't take 20-30 hours to figure out. It throws a little bit at you at a time. I was pretty comfortable with everything I had access to within the first 5 hours of the game.
TL;DR- doesn't apply here, just like xenoblade chronicles 2 you'll have to take your time to understand it's greatness
