this is my favourite bucket hat tutorial ever. it is literally the only one that fits me and all my friends properly!!! i’ve made at least 10 of these. if i could marry you i would!
Thank you so much for the tutorial! At first, it's a little bit hard for me to understand because the color look-alike, maybe it's gonna be cooler if you use contrast color. Thanks again btw, can't wait to see more of your tutorials, love it! ❤
Hi. Your tutorial is very simple and easy to understand but i have a question with body of the hat. Before changing the color you close the DC with the next color right? Like basically the same you did with the top of the hat 3:27?
Thanks so much for a great tutorial! I’m just trying with one colour first, but I wanted to ask why you don’t crochet into the front loop only when starting the brim as I’ve seen some patterns suggest that - would it make it look really different? Love the way your hats turn out!
Hi! Thank you, you’re very kind😊 Crocheting in the front loop only when starting the brim would make it fan out more. Personally, I like my brim dropping down a little so I crochet through both loops. Also it’s easier! I tend to drop my loops easily when I crochet in the front loops. The look would depend on how structured your yarn is (if it’s loose like mine there won’t be much of a difference). You can always try out both looks to see what you like! I hope this helps!
Thanks for the speedy reply :)! That’s really helpful, and yeh, I’ve tried it and not so sure I like the look as much as yours, so will stick to your method for the checkers one I try next. Thanks again!
Hi! I have a two ideas you could try. 1) use a thinner yarn and smaller hook with the same pattern. 2) make less increasing rows for the top of the hat. For example, try 4-6 rows instead of 7. If you can, try checking the size of the toddlers head with the top part of the hat. I hope one the hat works out for you!
It depends! I made 7 increasing rows so that the hat would fit my head. Please reference the measurements I talk about around 9:03 in the video! I hope this helps.
Hi!! If you use the same hook size and make sure the tension isn’t too tight, the hat should turn out the same size (albeit a bit looser). If you want your hat to be nicely structured I would recommend using a hook size that fits you hat and just making sure the the top of the hat matches up to the one I mentioned in the video. I hope this helps!
hiii, I'm going to make a shop to sell my crocheted things this summer and i was wondering if i could sell this hat and credit you as the designer? i just want to make sure you're okay with it before i do anything
Hi! I recommend making sure that you slip stitch and chain two at the end of a row to start a new row! This keeps the seam from tilting. I also recommend looking at the last row as you are crocheting a new row. Make sure that each stitch/color lines up with the row before. I hope this helps!!
Hi! I used a 4 ply, medium weight cotton yarn! For the hat in the thumbnail, the yarn was slightly thinner, but I would still consider it a medium/worsted weight yarn. I hope this helps!
Can we do the hat in half double crochet stitch instead of double crochet? If yes then how do I join the two color in hdc stutch I'm just confused how to join color in half double crochet stitch
Hi! Yes, you can make the hat in half double crochets. Make sure that the top of the hat (the increasing part) is between 5.25-6.25 inches and that the hat is long enough (just try it on to see). For changing colors with hdcs: - Start the row by chaining two. Hdc until the stitch before you need to switch colors. - Then yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, and pull up a loop through the stitch (you should have 3 loops on your hook). - At this point, change the color of yarn you are holding and use that strand to complete the stitch (use it to pull through the 3 loops). I hope this helps!
Hi! The increase part is made up of double crochets but there are 2 double crochets in the stitch at the end of each checker. The part of the hat where we build the length of the hat is made up of double crochets with no increases. Then the brim follows the same increase pattern as the top of the hat. I hope this helps!
I made two bucket hats for myself and i think my size was medium-large the first one took 70 grams and the second one was 76 grams, i used two different kinds of yarn tbh i dont know what kinds were they😂 but just in case you can buy 100 grams, if you eant me to measure the sizes you can tell me
Hi, I’m so sorry the instruction seem impossible. Is there anything I can do to help? It is one of my earlier videos so I might be able to explain some parts better now!
This is by far the best, clearest, and simplest tutorial on youtube for this type of hat. Thank you for making it!
Thank you so much, that means a lot!😻

Yes, exactly! The color changing is the same throughout and “closing the DC” is a great way to put it.
my favorite youtuber!!
thanks bestie😻
Same !!
omg what I love thisss!

Thanks you explained it well, nice work.
Thank you so much!
Hi!
What’s the best way to convert this for smaller heads like toddlers?
Thx xx

Do i chain two at the end when I’m at the non-Increase part?
Yes, whenever you start a new row make sure to chain two.
For rows 5 to row 9 is there any increase as I beginner... Please advise me...
It depends! I made 7 increasing rows so that the hat would fit my head. Please reference the measurements I talk about around 9:03 in the video! I hope this helps.
If I use 3ply yarn what hook size should I use ? And will it small?

That’s totally fine! Thank you for enjoying the pattern!
do you have any tips on how to keep the checkers straight once you stop doing the increase rows?
Hi! I recommend making sure that you slip stitch and chain two at the end of a row to start a new row! This keeps the seam from tilting. I also recommend looking at the last row as you are crocheting a new row. Make sure that each stitch/color lines up with the row before. I hope this helps!!

@@joymakes Thank you! This is very helpful
For bigger size what do I have to do?
Hi!! You can use a bigger hook, thicker yarn, or you can make the top of your hat larger to be 6 or so inches! I hope this helps!
I wished she used a darker color to demonstrate.
I’ve gotten this same request from a couple of people, and I’ll keep it in mind for the future. Sorry about the troubles!
is the increase same as the double crochet part?
Hi! The increase part is made up of double crochets but there are 2 double crochets in the stitch at the end of each checker. The part of the hat where we build the length of the hat is made up of double crochets with no increases. Then the brim follows the same increase pattern as the top of the hat. I hope this helps!
@@joymakes thanks for the explanation, it helps me a lot!!
no problem!!
how many grams of yarn did you use for this project?
I’m not 100% sure, but I didn’t use a full ball of yarn!
I made two bucket hats for myself and i think my size was medium-large the first one took 70 grams and the second one was 76 grams, i used two different kinds of yarn tbh i dont know what kinds were they😂 but just in case you can buy 100 grams, if you eant me to measure the sizes you can tell me
What’s the size of this hat (in centimeters)
It’s 22 cm from the top to the brim and 56 cm around the hat!

Your bear video was too difficult for me. I have 2 years of experience with the crochet club, so I’m pretty sure the instructions are impossible.

@@joymakes my fault bro I was kidding
