For swingcopters, I strongly recommend adding something to make sure both balls dont go in the blue orb corridor, as it can lead to skips. Edit: Not thanking anyone for the likes, I just want to add context. In 2.1 people would create ball duals where one ball was stuck in a corridor with blue orbs and it made the other ball act like the swing.
People underestimate layouts, its really hard to make a good one. It can really carry levels with mid decoration. I do struggle when making layouts, thank you very much for this tutorial!
I see so many people that ONLY make gameplay lol The majority of creators I see are layout creators, so I'm not really sure what youre talking about tbh But I do agree, good gameplay could carry bad deco
Before reading - building only demon layouts is not a good idea to start learning making good gameplay, instead, start making easy gameplay, and if you feel comfortable, move on to making harder stuff only if you feel doing that. Pretty good video for begginers. The thing that I would personally recommend is that to play most recent featured and epic rated levels to indicate what mechanics are common these days. Checking levels from top creator's leaderboard is also a very good idea as it shows a ton of creators that are very familiar with most of the things about simple and fun gameplay (as well as decorations). The last thing, but likely most important one is to see how gameplay in levels is made - check what speed the part has, what structures it uses, what gameplay it uses, etc... For that, I recommend checking less difficult levels (nothing above hard demon for the beginning), to see all mentioned above things. Addictional help would also be to check some uploaded layouts or videos on RUclips, layouts that are not complex and uses small amount of movements. These are very inspiring and probably helped me the most.
yo guys I had the same issue but when registering for an account, make sure the password doesn’t have characters other than letters and numbers. Example: ! or # Hope this helps u bros
11:00 If you want to make a harder/more open swing copter, make a cube go into a one block gap and set a green orb to follow your X and Y position with a Move trigger (put the Green orb and the move trigger on the same Y axis). if you want to stop, use a Toggle trigger. this will delete the orb unless you use an activating Toggle trigger on the same group.
That’s what I did with my levels ball part, I put some platforms and just put spikes on them but some are fake and some are real. I even need the player to PHASE through the platform and hit a invisible orb since I wanted it to be a demon level
This video was made before 2.2 released, back then, that mode didn't exist as a seperate gamemode and creators had to use that dual ball trick to make swing parts.
Now overall, making good layouts is from experience, Testing out gameplay, Testing out effects, Asking yourself "Does this look good, is this sighreadable, is it synced, is it Fun, is it not bland, is it fit to the theme" if not. Fix it. Takes weeks, be patient. Thats it lol.
You forgot the most notable mistake that people always commit: Trying to make their levels like RobTop's. Main levels are supposed to introduce and showcase mechanics, but when making custom levels you should assume that the people who are gonna play them are already familiar with the game.
Nice video, it teaches well the new creators. And a Word from my point of the view. Dont make layouts for be hard or eazyer, do it for express your creativity and your skills
Fascinating, great advice, personally i build a level separately of gameplay (split up) e.g first part 5s then i deco that same 5s and move on to the next parts gameplay, so i don't make the full layout at once so this was helpful, thank you.
Thanks for this! If at all possible, could you make something like this, but more focused on Insane and Extreme Demons? I’m working on an Extreme right now that’s largely timing-based, but I also want to incorporate all types of gameplay (except memory and 2-player). I’m not great at making Extreme Demon gameplay, so something like that would help tremendously. Thanks again!
My gameplay for my lvl "ClubDeath" that's in progress the lights are off but they will flicker before gameplay so you have to remember what the gameplay is then do it completely blind.
I remember this mechanic from that first level in the shadow gaunlet but in inverse You should make light with the area fade trigger that way you have to memorize but can still see just a little bit
I can imagine an extreme demon but with fun song and really fun decoration and not look too intimidating but hard as f, tho like for me slow paced song with fast paced gameplay doesn't feel to work much imo

the layout is essentially the gameplay of your level, when it comes to decoration, you will often make your layout invisible and then add block design. a lot of block designs end up having no hitbox, so adding an invisible layout over it means that it functions

Nah just make them die if they don't go to a portal outside of the orb area
Also, make the orbs multi-activate, or just have one multi-activate orb move through the track
Or make it so both balls don't go into the swing section *ahem* Subsystem Scramble

For swingcopters, I strongly recommend adding a yellow portal to make sure that you are using the proper game mechanic, as it can lead to confusion.
This video was made before 2.2 released, back then, that mode didn't exist as a seperate gamemode and creators had to use that dual ball trick to make swing parts.
