I agree with the dude asking for more info on Suppressors! We need more suppressor info! I have too much hearing loss as it is. I've made a new rule for myself. No new rifles if it does not have a threaded barrel! My ears (and that of my son who is my hunting buddy) are thanking me for that. Suppressors are a vital part of our hunting equipment! It is so much safer on the ears of those around and it causes less disturbance on game and neighbors! Lets see what you've got Ron!
Please keep doing a whole hour Ron. We love the in depth discussions. Plenty of other channels doing short videos but not nearly enough doing long form. Keep it up. Thanks!
I like the 1 hour format. I appreciate the knowledge and experience you share. I'm also very glad that you got a real chronograph! I ordered up the labradar lx. It's so much better than the original labradar.
For the guy who drew the Utah elk tag, Norma bondstrike ammo has been unbelievably good in my experience. For the guy that was asking about the 264 load data. I think it is the way it is because those were the available powders when it came out. It fell off in popularity before a lot of the slow magnum powders hit the market, so there was never any new data worked up with them. This is just my opinion, but it is the only reason I can think of. As for loading the 264, the book data leaves a lot of performance on the table. I won’t give any of my personal charge weights, but it takes some of the slowest burning powders to get the best results. Reloader 33, US869, and VV24N41 are all in the burn rate I’m talking about. Work the load up like it’s a wildcat. It’s fairly easy to get 140 grain bullets going 3200+ FPS by doing this. Use caution and go slowly.
12:05 this is an interesting use of the term ‘circle of confusion’ which is actually a term to describe the resolving power of a lens. I’m not surprised by your use of this term, though, as you are also an avid photographer. Although I don’t think this is the correct use of the term, it does seem to work well to get the point across.
Donald Gambler in Maryland has made my sheaths for my leatherman, he makes phenomenal products and is very rugged. I’ve gifted them to my family members who also have knifes and leatherman on their hip. My first one lasted 15 years or so with heavy use and is still good today but I liked the supple texture and look of his bison leather ones.
I like 1st focal plane for the exact reason of your hunting example. For me 1 mil is 1 mil no matter the power settings. So im always on and will hit. Once going through sniper school and getting familiar with this type of scope thiers no turning back. Much easier to hit and less chance of mistakes
For the 264 win mag I would assume the lower volume of the barrel compared to a wider caliber would lend to pressure sooner. Case shape and how deep the bullet is designed to sit into the case are additional factors with both powder type and also how much.
First focal plane or second? Each have their place. I recommend a first focal plane for long range such as competition or long range varmints. Second focal plane for most other hunting applications such as whitetail.
Ready to have your mind blown? Straight pull bolt actions are actually the predecessor to the most common semi-auto rifles, the AR-15. In fact, if you shut the gasblock off, an AR becomes a straight-pull bolt action.
... having Remington under Federals guidance in ammo making is a good thing as is having Marlin rifle manufacturing under Ruger guidance ... the recently produced Remington brand ammo does seem to be of consistently higher quality and accuracy than the pre-bankruptcy Remington ammo
I think its funny that some people want very short videos. I'm sure they have very valid reasons for it, however, can't you just pause the video at any time and return to it later? I genuinely feel like a longer run time fills the need of more listeners. At any rate, we all appreciate the experience and insight and we thank you for putting the videos together. Cheers from Idaho!
Shooting while standing..... Get a copy of the United States Army Marksmanship Unit manual. I believe you can order it through the Civilian Marksmanship Program. It has very good advice about standing position shooting.
i’m trying to find the 8.6 blackout video he teased in an FB post just today July 17. Is it not uploaded yet? I can’t find it. Does he have another channel? Maybe it was a patreons only video?
I feel like your rational for three shot groups being sufficient for a hunting rifle doesn’t really make sense. Appropriate group size to assess realistic MOA capability has nothing to do with how many shots you are anticipating putting on target (setting aside concerns for barrel heating). The point is that three shot groups just don’t provide enough statistical significance to determine whether or not the gun is truly MOA. You went on to note that multiple three shot groups would probably be sufficient, which sure, it probably is, as that’s giving you the equivalent of a 10-15 shot group. Hornady’s video series on this does a good job explaining why individual three shot groups can really steer people in the wrong direction about the capability of their rifle.
Yes. Let’s talk Copper. First off understand I like copper bullets for hunting. However while we’re talking let’s talk expensive. While it’s true that the person who only shoots a handful of rounds per year, it’s no big deal but, how about when the anti-gunners and PETA types get all lead outlawed and every shot from every rifle and pistol “must” be copper? How much will that add to the cost of shooting sports.
Well, that could increase ammo costs significantly. But I'm not sure what raw material demand means to all this. Lead is becoming harder and harder to source. Is copper? I'm not sure. Would more demand for copper in bulk lower prices? But I'm judging my copper preference by what works for me while hunting. That's my main point. And I don't see evidence that anti-hunting groups are a significant driver of a lead bullet ban. They want an all bullet ban, arrow ban, shotshell ban, slingshot ban, spear ban...
10 shot groups test the consistency of MATCH ammo where every point counts. 3 shot groups provide a quick confirmation of what the rifle and ammo can do, but are NOT an accurate representation of what you should expect. 5 shot groups do a much better job of showing the variation you can expect from a specific load out of your rifle.
I lost my first Leatherman to a ladyfriend who needed a screwdriver in the kitchen the next Morning. She remembered I had one in a pouch on my pants belt and, lightly fingered it out while I was still sleeping. Later I woke up and smelled the coffee, dressed and wandered into the kitchen where I actually saw it laying on the counter and remarked I one just like it. And she replied, "That is yours. I borrowed it." And then I wandered away without it.
I like the longer podcasts, enables a few more rabbitholes to be explored better. 1 hour plus please

You know she was a great mother when you see a old guy acting like a little boy when he talks about her❤

Im pretty sure Tikka make an affordable 9.3x62🤔
For off hand shooting, I strongly recommend a monopod, bipod, or better yet a tripod. Not useful for fast running shots, but great otherwise.

Fairbanks AK gun shops have lots of big bore used rifles , & they hardly have been used.

Please try a Danish Schultz and Larsen rifle 🙂. All the best from Denmark 🇩🇰

I would really like to buy a predator book from you
Great. You can do so at ronspomeroutdoors.com. Thanks!
For the guy who drew the walk tag look at the federal terminal assent
Ready to have your mind blown? Straight pull bolt actions are actually the predecessor to the most common semi-auto rifles, the AR-15. In fact, if you shut the gasblock off, an AR becomes a straight-pull bolt action.
I was always more concerned with achieving first shot accuracy than with shrinking group size.

Ron, do you have a Rumble channel?
😮 velocity " Ouch ! " 💔 😢
Shooting while standing.....
Get a copy of the United States Army Marksmanship Unit manual. I believe you can order it through the Civilian Marksmanship Program. It has very good advice about standing position shooting.
Just keep talking till you run out of relevant information .. I like listening to you and your guests
Please try the Danish Schultz and Larsen rifle. They are outstanding 🇩🇰😀
If my rifle scope does not have the parallax dial do I have to worry about it?
You asked about time it usually takes me two tries to finish an episode but I get it done
Love your show and humor especially with the cranky haters 🤣😂🤣
Ron.... what do you think about the Speer Grand Slam in 30 cal for heavy game?
I like lead, i like lead, i like lead.
i’m trying to find the 8.6 blackout video he teased in an FB post just today July 17. Is it not uploaded yet? I can’t find it. Does he have another channel? Maybe it was a patreons only video?
The new video review of the 8.6 Blackout, 1:3 twist barrel, and Fix bolt action rifle are coming to Ron Spomer Outdoors YT channel soon.

It says it's about bullet where is the bullet
half hour max / were busy also !

A 3 shot group doesn't tell you about the accuracy of a rifle... don't tell Mark LaRue
3 shot group doesn’t prove accuracy but it dose prove inaccuracy
The run time is a bit long. If you could have an editor divide them up into 10 or 20 minute segments that would be awesome
... I have a Leupold VX-3 1.75-6x32mm scope on my BLR '81 stainless lightweight takedown in 308 win that is an excellent bush scope
Not a chance. If you can't make it a short sharp and insightful video in 13/18 mins your wasting my time.
