I've had great success handloading Barnes bullets. I loaded my friends 30-06 with the 168 gr TTSX at 2940 FPS and we easily get sub MOA. We use this load for elk hunting. My 300 WBY loves the 175 gr LRX, it's sub half MOA at 3360 FPS. I also have loaded the 101 gr LRX in my 257 WBY at 3814 FPS... talk about laser beam. Recently I've been loading the newer 155 gr LRX in my friends 6.8 Western. So far his gun likes the bullet.
That's awesome, thank you for posting the information about your 30-06 load. What powder are you using? I get similar velocity from my 30-06 with the same bullet and IMR-4350. It has made me nervous, because I am using over 2 grains less than Barnes published max charge , but my velocity is exceeding Barnes published max velocity by at least 100 fps. Full disclosure, I'm using a basic Caldwell chronograph, and I am not certain how reliably accurate they are. Hearing you get similar velocity is a nice data point to realize I'm not crazy.
@@cobjread You have to a be a green horn at reloading when you don't know to look at the fired primers to tell you about pressure. When you see fired primers showing flat and firing pin indent very defined No smooth rounded edge you know that is where to stop with powder charge.
@@lurebenson7722as a general rule of thumb sure, but it really depends on your rifle and the load. I had a Howa in .243 that did this, but my 300 PRC absolutely flattens primers well below book max with very low velocity. All factory ammo also flattens the primers in this rifle.

I think I had a pretty good day. I set out hoping to shoot a spike and got a big 9 point. I switched to TTSX in his 25-06, and my 308 and 30-06.
I'm also a Barnes fan boy. My 168gr ttsx load in my 308 is nothing short of AMAZING. You talked throughout this podcast about how important it is to understand the envelope each bullet is designed for. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE publish this data on your website! At least publish the min expansion velocity. Keep up the great work!
I've been a Barnes X bullet believer since 89 or 90. My favorite were the blue coated 140 gr from a 7 Mag. Currently using 150 gr TTSX. Amazing performance! I keep telling my friends: "Barnes X bullets make your gun bigger!"

The LRX and TTSX are without any doubt in my mind the top 2 hunting bullets available today. I have so much confidence pulling the trigger, not just for terminal performance, but for incredible accuracy. I was lead core only for years, buddy put me on to Barnes when I started reloading and I was blown away first by accuracy, then by performance on game. Cannot recommend any higher.
Gregg Sloan is legit the most knowledgeable person around when it comes to ballistics and shooting in general. A lifetime of experience and knowledge and has been with Barnes forever. Hollywood!!!
I can tell you that the 130 TTSX over a full case of TAC in 308 has been a universal load in all seven of my 308s, some factory some full custom rifles. All less than MOA, all over 3200fps. All barrels are 22-24". I've got 5 deer in the freezer from this past season that fell to this combination. For distances 450 yards and under I have no need for anything else. Right now it's tax free week here in Ohio and I've been cleaning off the sales shelves for these and many other Barnes LRX, TSX, TTSX bullets.

I really enjoyed this bullet talk, I was really excited to hear that Barnes was going to be introducing a reduced recoil line, (greater performance at slower velocities) I have 6 grandkids that I want to introduce to hunting, shooting and reloading. I hunt primarily in the north ga mtns. And have very few shot opportunities past 100 yards. Thanks again !

I had previously avoided Barnes bullets because of what I had heard other, more experienced, deer-hunters here in the UK say about them. Basically they were accused of being "too tough for British deer, they just pencil through and all you get is runners and lost deer. Good for African plains game but not our deer". One friend of mine still avoids copper bullets to this day because of that line of thinking. BUT A few good friends tried TTSX & LRX bullets in various cartridges from .243Winchester through 6.5x55 to 308w/30-06sprg and up to 7mmRM & 300WM. They all raved about them! Based on that I got hold of 127grain LRX for my 6.5PRC and all I can say is WOW! Accuracy is great and performance is perfect, even on our smallest species like Muntjac & Chinese Water Deer. Great bullets and, even though it's irrelevant, absolutely beautiful bullets too. I'm going to give TSX & TTSX a try in my 375H&H magnum, I reckon it'll be perfect for Eastern European Wild Boar - and bigger :) Thanks and another great podcast from the Vortex team.
I will tell you how to tell someone is a liar about Barns bullets. How many is us professional guided use nonexpanding FMJ bullets including by self on Alaskan brown bear and Yukon Moose with not one animal lost so debunk that lie of bullets penciling through animals and won't kill the animal. Next the large holes in game is caused by lead core bullets either exploding or near blowing up on traveling through game and as small as Roe Buck are a lead core bullet will blast a massive hole in those little deer but a copper expanding bullets stays together on a controlled expansion so holes in and out are small.
This video made me so happy. I have been sitting on a tikka action that I've been wanting to build into a 300wsm. And the only thing keeping me from buying a 280ai rifle is the lack of factory ammo. ttsx, lrx, and terminal ascent are the only 3 bullets I like to shoot. So excited they are building bullets for specific cartridges and applications!!!

I just loaded the 130gr ttsx for my Rrm 600 moghawk in 308 for deer season in northern Michigan. I'm also loading the 95gr lrx in the 6mm arc, and I can't wait see how the 6mm arc performs.
Great interview guys. I look forward to an in studio podcast going over bullet selection(weight and product line) for cartridge. A lot of guys default to the heaviest grain and they mentioned that, thats isn’t always the greatest choice.
Great show guys! I've been hearing the praises of the 280 AI for many years. However, I've had a Browning A Bolt in 280 Remington since 1985. I haven't found anything from Red Stag on down that my 280 Remington couldn't handle. I just don't feel the need to change something that ain't broke.
I'm very glad that barnes paved the way for the commercial success of copper bullets. I'm definitely not done killing game with barnes bullets, but man some of the smaller companies like Lehigh defense, hawk bullets, McGuire, and up until George's passing Badlands precision are making really awesome bullets
Since 1978 I have as one job been a professional hunting guide working the Pacific NW and Alaska. Since the days of the Barns X bullet, I have only used Barns bullets for taking of game and I require the client to bring Barns ammo or reloads with Barns bullets so not to have animals wounded by crap lead core bullets. The Barns Blue X bullets I still have in 8 mm 200 grain are loaded into the 8mm -378 Weatherby magnum and leaving a 30-inch Douglas barrel @ 3800 FPS this load hammers all game dead on the spot. I load for my rifles in 300 Wby - 7 mm Rem mag - 338 win mag - 6mm - 284 win - 9.3x62 Mauser all of these rifles when game hunting all shoot the Barns X - TSX - TTSX - LRX bullets.
Although Ryan briefly mentioned it, the lower density of copper makes copper/copper-alloy bullets of a given weight physically larger than a. normal cup and core. A copper monolithic bullet is physically the size of a cup and core that is 20-25% heavier. That 130 grain barnes bullet, like Ryan said, is larger than a 150 grain cup and core. It is closer to a 160grain cup and core.
Had great success with 180g Barnes in a 300wm on African plains game. Always consistent expansion. Had a frontal shot on a blue wildebeest. Dug the bullet out of its back end. Put it on my powder scales when I got home. Still weighed 178g.

130 barnes Vs 178 cupncore...? Gel test!!? I wanna see doplar readings on the bullet speed compared AFTER it hits the gel? The decending energy reading.... No speed or energy readings means anything at a certain distance.. The ratio and no I m not talkn just b.c. It would be a contiously changing number.... Maybe there s always such thing
Very interesting about the 280 having a specific bullet @152gr. I've been trying to get the 168gr LRX loaded up in 7PRC and haven't been getting best accuracy - they need a long jump and are set way back of the lands. 145in the 7PRC seems light so that 152 option in the middle would be great but - where does that leave us as handloaders if it will only be released in boxed ammo and not available as a component? Bought my 7PRC specifically for the Barnes solids and as a handloader knowing i can't get the optimal bullet weight to handload for it kinda sucks.
Hornady 160gr cx might work? I'm about to start loading the 168s for my new 7prc. Hoping it'll work in my rifle 🤞. I'll be loading up the hornady 160gr cx and barnes 145 lrx as well just to have options and see what it likes.
@AussieInCA11 it should work, all of the custom box loads online so far are using the 168lrx, but then they also use rl26 or h1000 and if you've got those you're set for pretty much every type of bullet in the 7prc chambering. After digging lrx and cx out of the berm I much perfer the performance out of the lrx at that speed range.

Much like Ryan, I always love converting people over to The Copper Cult! @VortexNation, I was wondering if y’all could go over the concept and perhaps even geo ballistic testing of minimal terminal velocity needed for proper expansion between the TTSX and LRX series of bullets or with copper/monolithic bullets in general. It’s my understanding that the LRX line is better suited to expand at lower velocity thus making it more ideal for longer range shooting or using shorter barrels (decreased muzzle velocity). As always, I LOVE you guys and all the great work you do. My wife and bank account hate it when I head to bass pros because I’m always finding an excuse to buy another Razor LHT 🙈
Can you guys talk about shot placement on game? I've heard some people say bread basket, and others go for the shoulder. What factors contribute to making that decision in the field?

150 grain TTSX in my Tikka T3X 7Rem Mag groups less than 1” at a hundred with H4831. Hits an 8”steel plate at 500 yards consistently. Comfortable with the terminal performance at the range. Not sure what else you could want… maybe a bullet the same cost as an ELD-X but let’s not get too picky. Ha ha ha
We don't get to pick the distance our game shows itself. The 127lrx is the only bullet ive found that works from 50yd to 500yds. My 264 win mag just pushes cup and core bullets too fast to depend on them at closer ranges.
I lived at a big game guiding lodge in WY for a summer a couple years ago. Asked the owner if there were any bullets he recommended... He said they've had success with a veriety of bullets but I should do what I can to always avoid Barnes bullets. Always hesitated to pick them since then but all Ryan's data is making me potentially reconsider!
Hey y’all! You and the Barnes fellas have given me a lot to think about for this upcoming deer season. I run 143gr ELDX out of my Bergara 6.5 Creed for regular season affairs. For alternative season here in MO, I’m running a 12.5” Grendel AR pistol. This, is where I’ve come to my crossroads. Ryan, everything I’ve heard from you the last few years of listening to the podcast says a Hornady or Barnes offering should do the trick. I’m trying to decide between the Barnes TTSX 115gr and Hornady 123gr SST for said gun. I haven’t ran either, but from data gathered from the wonderful folks online, I should be expecting around 2200-2300 fps in that setup. That said, for shots from 0-300 yards, which would you prefer?

I have tried the Barnes 120 grain TTSX driven to 3168 fps in my 6.5x55. This would be my recommendation for the 6.5 Creedmore over anything heavier,, as these projectiles perform best at high velocities.
The only time I used a Barnes was a 165tsx in 3006and the bear I shot how I found it was luck at best. I stepped on it in the dark in a corn field. On my way out and said I missed. Then when I gutted it was a 30cal hole through heart lungs and liver. I hit every vital organ that animal had. So a fmj would have done the same thing I think. Since I have been told the bullet was to heavy and the tipped version is a much better bullet but I am having a hard time getting that out of my head.
I shot a black bear with my 338 Edge and a 250gr LRX last year at 300 yards. Impact velocity was about 2500fps. Would cavity was quite devastating. Bear didn’t even twitch
I found 168gr ttsx very acurate however the only deer ive lost was last year on a lung shot on a white tail at 150m. Im sure it was a bullet failure because i shot a doe later that week at 100m in the chest (frontal shot). It penciled throuh the vitals changing direction to the left shoulder and then changed direction again penciled through the guts and landed on the right hip joint. The deer dropped and then got up and ran 200m, the internal damage was equivalent to a field point on an arrow. The nose of the bullet was gone with 1 small pedal still retained and the rest gone. Complete failure. Ill never hunt with them again. The concept of saving meat and full penetration is stupid if the animal doesnt die. Id take jacket/core seperation over that if it means a quick clean kill. Also idk why everyone is obsessed with penetration these days, most of the sst's ive shot moose, elk and large mule deer with either landed on the off side hide or fully penetrate after exploding in vitals.
That is one of my loads in my 7mm-08. We've had the gun for 3 hunting seasons, and it killed a small mule deer that my son shot. If I remember right, it was about 150 yds, down hill, in a stiff wind. He hit the deer in the throat and dropped it where it was. Not a big data set, but I do like the load. I'm also testing 140gr partitions for elk and am curious about the LRX.
Sounds like Barnes dont build just what the media and shooters ask for or demand. they build what is necessary and required. but the 156 grain 6.5 bullet in a long barrel PRC sounds an elk round to me. so carry the 127 grain Barnes LRX and a Berger bullet 156 grain round in both loads with you, maybe one mag preloaded in separate mags. so much science, engineering and manufacturing processes more than a simple lead tip.
130 TTSX for all but the biggest NA game in .308; I'm using Varget, lightly compressed. 115 tac-tx in the Grendel has but two deer down deer down for my daughter. Load work up was easy in both of them. Note that the Grendel is a bolt gun that I am pushing hard with RL 15. I don't have a load worked up for the AR platform with it.
Barnes bullets are accurate. However, in my experience, bonded or cup and core are FAR more lethal and reliable. Multiple animals at multiple yardages from 50-600 with a .300 win mag pencil holed leaving long tracking jobs and 3-5 rounds for each animal to dispatch them. Went back to accubonds and problem gone. Will never use them again. Not to mention they would foul the rifle every 9-10 rounds.
Really if you hunt long range go with something like an eldx. If you hunt close range copper, bonded and even tough non tipped cup and core. If you want the best of both go bonded. Terminal assent, accubond, fusion etc.
80 grain projectiles, with a moderate powder charge is a surprisingly light recoiling rifle. If the rifle happens to be threaded, a decent brake will turn it into a complete pussycat...loud, but near .223 levels of recoil.
Poorly, the recommended twist rate is 1:8 and it’s meant to pushed by the top of the 30 cal baddies like the 300 prc, 300 weatherby and custom 300 win mags. Don’t get me wrong the 30-06 is a great cartridge, but this bullet is made to operate past its capabilities.
Any company where 16 years is still a bit “new” has to be special. “I run the ballistics lab and new product development.” Well OK then. He is the guy I want to hear from…
I have a few boxes of ttsx. Yes I have the same issue and it did really worry me so I shot a couple groups and got .5 inches both times so I don't think it's a big issue, but I do wish they were centred as it wouldn't hurt, and I do think it's lousy quality control. That said, I love everything else about the ttsx and will continue to buy them. Oh and that was handloads btw not factory
@@italian_badger1660 In CA we're restricted to Lead Free bullets so I'm limited on my options. I'm pretty frustrated with the inconsistent accuracy I'm experiencing with copper from Barnes, Hornady, and Nosler. I have an older Mod 70 300 Win Mag that back then came with a chamber cut for a 220gr round nose lead so even at my max magazine length of 3.400 I still have .270" of jump so that's one challenge. Barrel is free floated and action is fully bedded. It shoots 168/175gr Sierra MKs under an inch consistently so I have confidence in the rifle/optics. I've had the most success with 79.1-79.4gr H4831SC, Win LRM Primer and the 165gr TSX. So with that I'll get 4 shots under and 1/2" (one ragged hole) then a flyer at 1". IMHO that's good for an old rifle, however I'll go back to the range the next day and with the same exact load and conditions and it will shoot 2 1/2". Bought a box of Barnes Vor-tx 180gr TTSX. Shots 1(CB), 3, 4, 5 were within .675" but that 2nd shot was 1.750" M77 in 7mm Rem Mag. Shoots 139LRX 68.0gr of H1000 Rem 9 1/2 Primer at .905" then go back the next day with the same load and is 2 1/2" now. M77 in .243 Win with 80gr TTSX and 85gr TSX I've had a few loadings just over an inch. One 80grTTSX loading of 47.3gr Superformance Fed 210M primer that was .870" but that's pretty slow for a 243.
You should try the 175 grain LRX they work great in a 300 win mag a good balance between BC and speed they have been pretty accurate out of four different rifles I load for but that being said You're rifle might not like monolithics
@@carlpreston1680 I've tried the 190 LRX with mediocre results. Oddly the 168TTSX is drastically worse than the 165TSX. The 175 LRX has a good BC so I'll give that a shot. Time for another deep cleaning on it. My SAKO 300WM brass is done so now I'm starting over again with 50 new Petersen 300WM Long brass. Feeding these beasts with 70-80grs of powder is getting pretty expensive.
@@angusmotorsports4715 I've never tried the 190s only the 175s but the 500 plus BC at 3000 to 3100 per second I figured it was hard to beat The rifles we use them in weren't very high end and they still did pretty good probably more human factor than anything they were all loaded too published over all length

I had previously avoided Barnes bullets because of what I had heard other, more experienced, deer-hunters here in the UK say about them. Basically they were accused of being "too tough for British deer, they just pencil through and all you get is runners and lost deer. Good for African plains game but not our deer". One friend of mine still avoids copper bullets to this day because of that line of thinking.
BUT
A few good friends tried TTSX & LRX bullets in various cartridges from .243Winchester through 6.5x55 to 308w/30-06sprg and up to 7mmRM & 300WM. They all raved about them! Based on that I got hold of 127grain LRX for my 6.5PRC and all I can say is WOW! Accuracy is great and performance is perfect, even on our smallest species like Muntjac & Chinese Water Deer. Great bullets and, even though it's irrelevant, absolutely beautiful bullets too.
I'm going to give TSX & TTSX a try in my 375H&H magnum, I reckon it'll be perfect for Eastern European Wild Boar - and bigger :)

I will tell you how to tell someone is a liar about Barns bullets.
How many is us professional guided use nonexpanding FMJ bullets including by self on Alaskan brown bear and Yukon Moose with not one animal lost so debunk that lie of bullets penciling through animals and won't kill the animal.
Next the large holes in game is caused by lead core bullets either exploding or near blowing up on traveling through game and as small as Roe Buck are a lead core bullet will blast a massive hole in those little deer but a copper expanding bullets stays together on a controlled expansion so holes in and out are small.
This video made me so happy. I have been sitting on a tikka action that I've been wanting to build into a 300wsm. And the only thing keeping me from buying a 280ai rifle is the lack of factory ammo. ttsx, lrx, and terminal ascent are the only 3 bullets I like to shoot. So excited they are building bullets for specific cartridges and applications!!!
If you like the AR 10 do you know you can buy AR 10 uppers in all the WSM and the 300 WSM in AR 10 is the most common made and sold.

I just loaded the 130gr ttsx for my Rrm 600 moghawk in 308 for deer season in northern Michigan. I'm also loading the 95gr lrx in the 6mm arc, and I can't wait see how the 6mm arc performs.
Great interview guys. I look forward to an in studio podcast going over bullet selection(weight and product line) for cartridge. A lot of guys default to the heaviest grain and they mentioned that, thats isn’t always the greatest choice.
Great show guys! I've been hearing the praises of the 280 AI for many years. However, I've had a Browning A Bolt in 280 Remington since 1985. I haven't found anything from Red Stag on down that my 280 Remington couldn't handle. I just don't feel the need to change something that ain't broke.
I'm very glad that barnes paved the way for the commercial success of copper bullets. I'm definitely not done killing game with barnes bullets, but man some of the smaller companies like Lehigh defense, hawk bullets, McGuire, and up until George's passing Badlands precision are making really awesome bullets

Since 1978 I have as one job been a professional hunting guide working the Pacific NW and Alaska.
Since the days of the Barns X bullet, I have only used Barns bullets for taking of game and I require the client to bring Barns ammo or reloads with Barns bullets so not to have animals wounded by crap lead core bullets.
The Barns Blue X bullets I still have in 8 mm 200 grain are loaded into the 8mm -378 Weatherby magnum and leaving a 30-inch Douglas barrel @ 3800 FPS this load hammers all game dead on the spot.
I load for my rifles in 300 Wby - 7 mm Rem mag - 338 win mag - 6mm - 284 win - 9.3x62 Mauser all of these rifles when game hunting all shoot the Barns X - TSX - TTSX - LRX bullets.

Although Ryan briefly mentioned it, the lower density of copper makes copper/copper-alloy bullets of a given weight physically larger than a. normal cup and core. A copper monolithic bullet is physically the size of a cup and core that is 20-25% heavier. That 130 grain barnes bullet, like Ryan said, is larger than a 150 grain cup and core. It is closer to a 160grain cup and core.
Had great success with 180g Barnes in a 300wm on African plains game. Always consistent expansion. Had a frontal shot on a blue wildebeest. Dug the bullet out of its back end. Put it on my powder scales when I got home. Still weighed 178g.

Very interesting about the 280 having a specific bullet @152gr. I've been trying to get the 168gr LRX loaded up in 7PRC and haven't been getting best accuracy - they need a long jump and are set way back of the lands. 145in the 7PRC seems light so that 152 option in the middle would be great but - where does that leave us as handloaders if it will only be released in boxed ammo and not available as a component? Bought my 7PRC specifically for the Barnes solids and as a handloader knowing i can't get the optimal bullet weight to handload for it kinda sucks.
Hornady 160gr cx might work? I'm about to start loading the 168s for my new 7prc. Hoping it'll work in my rifle 🤞. I'll be loading up the hornady 160gr cx and barnes 145 lrx as well just to have options and see what it likes.
@AussieInCA11 it should work, all of the custom box loads online so far are using the 168lrx, but then they also use rl26 or h1000 and if you've got those you're set for pretty much every type of bullet in the 7prc chambering. After digging lrx and cx out of the berm I much perfer the performance out of the lrx at that speed range.

Much like Ryan, I always love converting people over to The Copper Cult! @VortexNation, I was wondering if y’all could go over the concept and perhaps even geo ballistic testing of minimal terminal velocity needed for proper expansion between the TTSX and LRX series of bullets or with copper/monolithic bullets in general. It’s my understanding that the LRX line is better suited to expand at lower velocity thus making it more ideal for longer range shooting or using shorter barrels (decreased muzzle velocity).
As always, I LOVE you guys and all the great work you do. My wife and bank account hate it when I head to bass pros because I’m always finding an excuse to buy another Razor LHT 🙈
The Barnes ttsx polymer tip bugs me, it's off center. I don't know if it affects accuracy much but it's consistently off center.
Can you guys talk about shot placement on game? I've heard some people say bread basket, and others go for the shoulder. What factors contribute to making that decision in the field?

150 grain TTSX in my Tikka T3X 7Rem Mag groups less than 1” at a hundred with H4831. Hits an 8”steel plate at 500 yards consistently. Comfortable with the terminal performance at the range. Not sure what else you could want… maybe a bullet the same cost as an ELD-X but let’s not get too picky. Ha ha ha
We don't get to pick the distance our game shows itself. The 127lrx is the only bullet ive found that works from 50yd to 500yds. My 264 win mag just pushes cup and core bullets too fast to depend on them at closer ranges.
I lived at a big game guiding lodge in WY for a summer a couple years ago. Asked the owner if there were any bullets he recommended... He said they've had success with a veriety of bullets but I should do what I can to always avoid Barnes bullets. Always hesitated to pick them since then but all Ryan's data is making me potentially reconsider!
You should tell them to make a 6mm 110gr tac tx for the 6mm arc, like they did the 115gr for the 6.5 Grendel.

Hey y’all! You and the Barnes fellas have given me a lot to think about for this upcoming deer season. I run 143gr ELDX out of my Bergara 6.5 Creed for regular season affairs. For alternative season here in MO, I’m running a 12.5” Grendel AR pistol. This, is where I’ve come to my crossroads.
Ryan, everything I’ve heard from you the last few years of listening to the podcast says a Hornady or Barnes offering should do the trick. I’m trying to decide between the Barnes TTSX 115gr and Hornady 123gr SST for said gun. I haven’t ran either, but from data gathered from the wonderful folks online, I should be expecting around 2200-2300 fps in that setup. That said, for shots from 0-300 yards, which would you prefer?

I have tried the Barnes 120 grain TTSX driven to 3168 fps in my 6.5x55. This would be my recommendation for the 6.5 Creedmore over anything heavier,, as these projectiles perform best at high velocities.

I've been told a tsx or ttsx penetrates like a lead core about 30% larger?
The only time I used a Barnes was a 165tsx in 3006and the bear I shot how I found it was luck at best. I stepped on it in the dark in a corn field. On my way out and said I missed. Then when I gutted it was a 30cal hole through heart lungs and liver. I hit every vital organ that animal had. So a fmj would have done the same thing I think. Since I have been told the bullet was to heavy and the tipped version is a much better bullet but I am having a hard time getting that out of my head.

I shot a black bear with my 338 Edge and a 250gr LRX last year at 300 yards. Impact velocity was about 2500fps. Would cavity was quite devastating. Bear didn’t even twitch
I found 168gr ttsx very acurate however the only deer ive lost was last year on a lung shot on a white tail at 150m. Im sure it was a bullet failure because i shot a doe later that week at 100m in the chest (frontal shot). It penciled throuh the vitals changing direction to the left shoulder and then changed direction again penciled through the guts and landed on the right hip joint. The deer dropped and then got up and ran 200m, the internal damage was equivalent to a field point on an arrow. The nose of the bullet was gone with 1 small pedal still retained and the rest gone. Complete failure. Ill never hunt with them again. The concept of saving meat and full penetration is stupid if the animal doesnt die. Id take jacket/core seperation over that if it means a quick clean kill. Also idk why everyone is obsessed with penetration these days, most of the sst's ive shot moose, elk and large mule deer with either landed on the off side hide or fully penetrate after exploding in vitals.
I load the 120 tac/tx in my 300 Weatherby moving at 3793 for whitetail. I couldn’t ask for a better bullet

The reason people think the bullet didn't expand is because the skin stretched when the bullet went out the other side.

Does anyone have experience with the 7mm-08 TTSX 120 grain on whitetails? I have some and they shoot well, but I have never used them on game.
That is one of my loads in my 7mm-08. We've had the gun for 3 hunting seasons, and it killed a small mule deer that my son shot. If I remember right, it was about 150 yds, down hill, in a stiff wind. He hit the deer in the throat and dropped it where it was. Not a big data set, but I do like the load. I'm also testing 140gr partitions for elk and am curious about the LRX.
Sounds like Barnes dont build just what the media and shooters ask for or demand. they build what is necessary and required. but the 156 grain 6.5 bullet in a long barrel PRC sounds an elk round to me. so carry the 127 grain Barnes LRX and a Berger bullet 156 grain round in both loads with you, maybe one mag preloaded in separate mags. so much science, engineering and manufacturing processes more than a simple lead tip.

130 TTSX for all but the biggest NA game in .308; I'm using Varget, lightly compressed.
115 tac-tx in the Grendel has but two deer down deer down for my daughter. Load work up was easy in both of them. Note that the Grendel is a bolt gun that I am pushing hard with RL 15. I don't have a load worked up for the AR platform with it.

Barnes bullets are accurate. However, in my experience, bonded or cup and core are FAR more lethal and reliable. Multiple animals at multiple yardages from 50-600 with a .300 win mag pencil holed leaving long tracking jobs and 3-5 rounds for each animal to dispatch them. Went back to accubonds and problem gone. Will never use them again. Not to mention they would foul the rifle every 9-10 rounds.
Really if you hunt long range go with something like an eldx. If you hunt close range copper, bonded and even tough non tipped cup and core. If you want the best of both go bonded. Terminal assent, accubond, fusion etc.

80 grain projectiles, with a moderate powder charge is a surprisingly light recoiling rifle. If the rifle happens to be threaded, a decent brake will turn it into a complete pussycat...loud, but near .223 levels of recoil.
How do Y'all think the 212gr. they talked about would do in a 30-06?
Poorly, the recommended twist rate is 1:8 and it’s meant to pushed by the top of the 30 cal baddies like the 300 prc, 300 weatherby and custom 300 win mags. Don’t get me wrong the 30-06 is a great cartridge, but this bullet is made to operate past its capabilities.

I have a few boxes of ttsx. Yes I have the same issue and it did really worry me so I shot a couple groups and got .5 inches both times so I don't think it's a big issue, but I do wish they were centred as it wouldn't hurt, and I do think it's lousy quality control. That said, I love everything else about the ttsx and will continue to buy them. Oh and that was handloads btw not factory
@@italian_badger1660 In CA we're restricted to Lead Free bullets so I'm limited on my options. I'm pretty frustrated with the inconsistent accuracy I'm experiencing with copper from Barnes, Hornady, and Nosler. I have an older Mod 70 300 Win Mag that back then came with a chamber cut for a 220gr round nose lead so even at my max magazine length of 3.400 I still have .270" of jump so that's one challenge. Barrel is free floated and action is fully bedded. It shoots 168/175gr Sierra MKs under an inch consistently so I have confidence in the rifle/optics. I've had the most success with 79.1-79.4gr H4831SC, Win LRM Primer and the 165gr TSX. So with that I'll get 4 shots under and 1/2" (one ragged hole) then a flyer at 1". IMHO that's good for an old rifle, however I'll go back to the range the next day and with the same exact load and conditions and it will shoot 2 1/2".
Bought a box of Barnes Vor-tx 180gr TTSX. Shots 1(CB), 3, 4, 5 were within .675" but that 2nd shot was 1.750"
M77 in 7mm Rem Mag. Shoots 139LRX 68.0gr of H1000 Rem 9 1/2 Primer at .905" then go back the next day with the same load and is 2 1/2" now.
M77 in .243 Win with 80gr TTSX and 85gr TSX I've had a few loadings just over an inch. One 80grTTSX loading of 47.3gr Superformance Fed 210M primer that was .870" but that's pretty slow for a 243.
You should try the 175 grain LRX they work great in a 300 win mag a good balance between BC and speed they have been pretty accurate out of four different rifles I load for but that being said You're rifle might not like monolithics
@@carlpreston1680 I've tried the 190 LRX with mediocre results. Oddly the 168TTSX is drastically worse than the 165TSX. The 175 LRX has a good BC so I'll give that a shot.
Time for another deep cleaning on it.
My SAKO 300WM brass is done so now I'm starting over again with 50 new Petersen 300WM Long brass. Feeding these beasts with 70-80grs of powder is getting pretty expensive.

Align your tips better I've bought 4 boxes of the ttsx and lrx and the tips are misaligned really bad like ur bullets but QC could be better
