The first one with the rear windows was a beast. An Australian Driver imported one of a very few Boss 302 Mustang. It was red & what a great looking car it was. Moffat was by he’s own admission not the fastest driver but he won a lot of races in that car over a long period of time . He was with Alan Jones the most committed driver I have seen.
Carrol the very best day of my life was the day I got to meet you in Garland at one of your houses! I won't say his name , but my and your friend brought me with him to see you. I had no idea where we were going, and when you came to the door I liked to had a heart a tack, he said do you know this man? And I said why hell yes, and Carrol just shook his hear and smiled. We were there're looking at a car you had built for my friend, and I was in all, I couldn't believe what I was looking at, and I guess I still didn't know what it was. But all in. All it was the greatest day of my life! Thank you, and my you rest in peace!
nice bullshit story, but shit imagination.....Shelby built a car for your friend at his home?... fucking awesome bullshit you came up with right there.
Carrol did not "jump" at the opportunity to hop up the Mustang, he had to be coaxed (extensively) by FOMOCO. It was only once sales confirmed the success of this new addition and all was said and done w/ the first Shelby, that Ford finally realized Carrol's design expertise and marketing savvy. America wants to have fun behind the wheel and Shelby saw that.
I drive a 67 G.T 350 all original with 45,390 miles on the clock- to school in the spring. Sunny days I take it out sometimes. Also have a 66 Mustang it’s not all original. Ice had to weld patch panels on places, patched the floorboard here and there. Took the old engine out and transmission rear axle and replaced it with a four link rear end by Strange Engineering and a Coyote 5.0. It’s gun metal grey and I love it.
I like a lot of this for the footage and quotes, but Mr. Announcer didn't know what he was talking about when he said the Mustang had lost its way on the track while showing footage of the 1970 Trans-Am series won by Parnelli Jones in a 1970 Factory Ford Boss Mustang prepared by Bud Moore Engineering in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Regarding the Hertz cars...when the rental program first started, Smart guys started renting them for the weekend, take them home, pull the K code Hipo Engine replace it with a base 289 engine and put the Shelby manifold/carb/headers/valve covers back on and return the car...in the beginning the hertz guys would just do a walk around and see that the car ran fine and no questions asked. After that happened several times Hertz was directed to check that the engine was the Hipo engine (I assume checking the K code vin on the block....which incidentally was only put on the California cars which is where all the Shelby's came from as base K code fastbacks....now that I think about it I think I read that they actually put locks on the motor mounts so they couldn't be removed, can't quite remember). p.s. If you knew what you were doing it was an easy weekend project. I. Like the old school mustang 's these new ones have a bunch of relay s, and electronic devices in them !! :-) even the manual transmission s have relay s in them !! :-),
They were going to make the mustang front wheel drive, so they changed the name of the planned next generation mustang to the probe and came out with the SN95 as the next mustang, which was what I was led to believe.
I remember reading an article I think in Hot Rod mag. named "Behold the Pale Horse" that featured a white with black strips 70 Boss 302 .The 600+ HP race 302's were winning the "Can Am" 24 hr. endurance races at that time.
From the time that enlargement started, the Mustang had lost its "Euro" look. Instead of following the Porsche model of refinement every year, there were simply enlargements and styling changes. Sales dropped. Of course the car was maintained through a number of difficult times including the gas crisis until finally the Fox body helped to save the Mustang with the 5.0 liter engines. still the origns of the Mustang were not resurrected until 1998, when the design again reminded the viewer of a sort of Euro look even though it was not exactly the same as the original.
They should have spent a little more on some Power, the reason the SN95 didn't sell well was a Camaro had a 350 while the Mustang had a weak 302! This is the same reason Mustang II was considered a flop by True Mustang Guys, Mustang was soused to be sporty. There is nothing sporty about a V8 engine with 125 hp!
It was not the z/28 or the boss 302 in 1971 of the fastest cars in the trans am series , it was amc as the car to beat. 1970 new Javelin team owner Roger Penske and driver Mark Donohue would breathe new life into the AMC team. Donohue drove the Javelin to three victories, with AMC finishing second overall in the Manufacturers' Championship. In 1971, of the ten races that the Over 2.5L Class cars participated in, Donohue won seven of them, including the final six races in a row, with AMC winning the Manufacturers' championship for the first time ever. In the final race of the season, Javelins finished in first, second and third place, with George Follmer becoming the only other Javelin driver to win besides Donohue.
Not to take anything away from the Roger Penske/Mark Donohue Javelin-AMX, but all the other manufacturers dropped out. Chevy, Pontiac, Dodge, Plymouth and Ford all pulled their factory support. Only AMC stayed in the game. It was a shame, because that 1971 Javelin-AMX was the ultimate Trans Am car. It was so well developed and prepared, it was in a class by itself.
Britt's talking about a purely American icon. The black Mustang "Cobra" they kept calling a 78 Mustang 2 was in fact a new Fox body. Lots of wrong info here.
+Fitness Guru it’s quite amusing how many things are wrong with this documentary. I don’t know a lot about the Mustangs but I read the comments and it’s clear that there’s loads of mistakes!
Fitness Guru ; Look no further than what "JJJ" stands for and having a cheeky, snobby Limey narrator. The Limey forgot to mention Ford's involvement resurrecting Volvo, Mazda,Jaguar, Aston Martin, Land Rover for 20+yrs. If I remember correctly, Ford dropped $1billion in Jaguar.
Not edited and sure as hell not written researched or produced by a motorhead. They talk about GM and the 67 camaro and show a gen 3 firebird. Enough 4 me...
The story was nice ford man all the way my first car my dad gave me 1989 grada for door . the got a 88 fox then 2008 bullit body nice but that 4.6 at 170.00 timing chain setup 3 times still have it pass to my son i have 2015 gt 5.0 not impressed with the engineering car got lots of power but that timing chain is part of the service
Lots of inaccurate statements made in this piece and some of the cars aren't even correct. King Cobra, '66 Mustang, GT500 with Cobra Jet engine just to name a few. Easy facts to find and verify...got them wrong.
It was like the narrative was made at a different time than the video. Then they had a British accent describe an American icon. Threw it together like a salad and said fuck it, it's good enough.
Some of the editing is lousy. There are clips showing the wrong years in crucial spots! The firebird shown early on was the second generation, not the first. The cobra shown was the fox body, not the first cobra from the second generation, much maligned mustang 2.
"BIG" cars not doing well....' That doesn't explain the Plymouth Roadrunner success story... In 1968 Roadrunner sales expectations were about 8000, but over 40,000 were sold. In 1969 it DOUBLED, over 81,000 were sold... Fords, Mustangs were under powered. A bone stock 1970 Mustang 302 had about 210 horsepower, 300 pf torque, and bone stock 1970 Roadrunner, 330 HP and 425 torque. There is not much competition there.
Hey cmscms, thank you for you reply. I read all of them.! I don't know a massive amount about American Muscle, though I do love the 70's cars, the Mustangs, Camaros Chargers etc. So great to hear people comments and views!
Roadrunner was billed as a muscle car, was bigger, and came std. with a 383 4 bl. Mustang appealed to a different and wider range of customer, and standard equipment doesn't matter much as long as the other options including bigger engines are easily available and on the lot. I will concede, however, that Ford was late in producing the BOSS 351, which would have positioned it above BOSS 302, but below 428 CJ, 428 SCJ, and BOSS 429. Additionally, I could say the same thing you are. If you walked into a Ford showroom in 1969 and wanted a Cobra with Formal Roof Line, or SportsRoof (fastback) you only had two engine choices, the std. 428 CJ, or 428 SCJ. It's neither a Torino GT or Fairlane, but it's still based on the Fairlane platform, looks exactly like a Fairlane (minus the hood scoop), and is loaded up with all the necessary high performance parts underneath, with almost no limit of high end interior options available. My favorite sleeper car, especially with Formal Roof Line, and with a much more powerful std. engine than the 69' Roadrunner.
Jackson almost all 80s car were crap in one way or another! I agree with you on this, 90s Mustangs aren't that impressive and from what I see they don't seem to be popular with collectors. All the current muscle cars are bloated and full of plastic. The current Mustang is a fantastic car and the best selling muscle car on the road. It's for sure a lot better then the poorly made Camaro and Challenger.
Ford did the same thing to the T-Bird, was a small car and it ended up being a land yacht. The only Mustangs were the original 3 yrs. It started the pony car era. Then they just got to big. Seems like their living on the name. I seen and article on ford making an all electric mustang, no way, to me that would be sacrilege, lol
@@jamesmoore3346 Yeah they have the Mech E which isn't really a Mustang coming out later in the year and I think they are planning a regular electric Mustang as well. I agree with you, no thanks.
What do you expect, it's an infringed copyright Limey copy of the History Channel video. Britain couldn't win WWII without help, so it's no surprise that this video is screwed up inaccurate. If you want to see the original accurate version of this video, get the "History Channel: Automobiles- Mustang" video.
I like this but you got sooo much info wrong and scenes wrong and people wrong and dates wrong... Of note, Iaccoca oversaw the development of the 79 mustang but was fired therefore could not launch so instead Phil Cardwell did the launch (but was not responsible for design etc..). lots more unfortunately.
This vid was "Ok" until minute 15:25 when it talks about the 78 "King Cobra" model. That is NOT a 78 King Cobra... That is NOT a 1978... it's a 79 !!! Get it right or we can't believe ANY of the vid ! The 78 looks exactly like the 74 except the stripes.... Our family had both years. They failed to mention what a DOG the 74 Four banger was ! My Mother in law HAD to have a NEW 74, and it only took a week of driving it till she heard Ford was coming out with a 302 in 75, and she put her order in for one. The 74 couldn't beat my 69 VW Bug when I challenged my future wife to a drag race !
Seems like for a long time the Mustang got uglier and uglier....they had some great looking models orly on...especially around 1967, the fastback was so nice. For some reason they thought those ugly decals were gonna make it run better? The wacky colors didn't help either. Now finally I'm starting to see a few great looking models but then a year comes around and it's back to ugly again. So inconsistent. I couldn't believe the sales pitch for one of the newest Mustang...GOES 165 mph. Listen dummies, I'm just going to the store and can't afford any more tickets; get real FORD.
79-93 they looked like blown out Escorts...glad they got rid of the fox body..but the '15- present models look way too Euro and have ugliest back ends of mustangs ever....they are just really powerful.
ford ant the smartest just look at parts non interchange its a art to be that confounded .n i am a ford guy but use a ls gm n a 460 ford no newer trucks ford to pricy it just a truck n a engine 5.4l was last straw
Yet the 1990's mustang and its development saving 200 million dollars still does not make your job secure at all, while a ford owners is at the wheel, you would have to have Photos of a ford president or ford relative in compromising position to make your job save for all time ?
Now you learn so much ,the issues is that the USA and FORD are the type of people that they think they are right, but if shelby had his way of design and suspension ways ford would have made so many its not funny, but as always internal politics always gets in the way and thus the design and end products always suffers and when you look at chrysler and GM they had no problems at all, compared to FORD ?
Not even watching this doc, anyone who knows the history of Ford knows that it is amazing the motor company even survived to exist under Henry Ford II. Case in point of someone who got the job through inheritance, not qualification. Now, history is repeating itself, especially with the Mustang. An electric Mustang is cool (BMW and others have made some freaky e-sports cars). When you make the Mustang a 4 door sedan, you just ruined the best thing you have. As far as me, so long Ford, you finally ruined everything you had ever going for you.
This could have been done so much better, the mistakes in years, models, voice over to cars displayed were a total failure. Lots of good content, just a lack of knowledge.

Lots of inaccuracies in this documentary.
No kidding!!!
Man you americans are lucky with all the classic american cars in my country its nearly impossible to find any classic cars inspecialy american :D
what country are you in ?
From the time that enlargement started, the Mustang had lost its "Euro" look. Instead of following the Porsche model of refinement every year, there were simply enlargements and styling changes. Sales dropped. Of course the car was maintained through a number of difficult times including the gas crisis until finally the Fox body helped to save the Mustang with the 5.0 liter engines. still the origns of the Mustang were not resurrected until 1998, when the design again reminded the viewer of a sort of Euro look even though it was not exactly the same as the original.
Gas scarcity is a government scam
Pontiac T1000... now THERE'S a turd of a car!
I think the Pontiac Aztec was the longest turd on the sidewalk!
"for 200 million less than budget" that explains the crappy interior on the 94-04 mustang
The Boss 302!
I about lost it 23:30 “the Bruce Jenner” with soft lines, trim
Is this the Full documentary? only 27 minutes long? wish I could find the full documentary!
Look up History of the Mustang on the History channel.
That was not a King Cobra. It was the later Fox Body Cobra.....
Britt's talking about a purely American icon.
The black Mustang "Cobra" they kept calling a 78 Mustang 2 was in fact a new Fox body.
Lots of wrong info here.
Bruce Jenner mustang!Thank god they didn’t pick that one, because you have to put a bra on it!
Steven Steven ....do you have to work at being a total dickhead, or does it come naturally to you?
Why did they repeatedly show a visual that was NOT the car being talked about...not even the same body or year?!
@@JJJ_JapaneseJamJars ; Yep, and you still posted it. British/Japanese propaganda.
Not edited and sure as hell not written researched or produced by a motorhead. They talk about GM and the 67 camaro and show a gen 3 firebird. Enough 4 me...
@@cobracharmer6178The narrator is American, so you are wrong about the propaganda.
not enough foxbody documentation
Because they were by far the ugliest style
The 86-93 mustang did very well lol those things were all over the streets gtf out of here
Yea buddy
Finnegan? ^^
Wish I could find an 86 LX 5 Liter coupe.
Shelby didn't leave in 69 because of his heart, it was because of bucky
The story was nice ford man all the way my first car my dad gave me 1989 grada for door . the got a 88 fox then 2008 bullit body nice but that 4.6 at 170.00 timing chain setup 3 times still have it pass to my son i have 2015 gt 5.0 not impressed with the engineering car got lots of power but that timing chain is part of the service
A very mixed up era timing . Good content , just messed up .
It would take GM 40 yrs to sell 1 million Vettes wow
Who is doing the narration? It sounds like a Temo version of Vincent Price.
Threw it together like a salad and said fuck it, it's good enough.
ace
they foreshadowed that jenner car didnt they....lol
Anyone else bugged by having a video about the greatest AMERICAN pony car narrated by a Brit?
I know this JYard...
No, with shelby's help for made a car.
@ 11:11 mark, looks like the ass end of that car had different primer or painted wrong, lol :)
👍👍👍
The 80’s mushtangs were crap.
The 90’s were a yawnfest
The current ones are bloated and full of plastic.
If you want to see the original accurate version of this video, get the "History Channel: Automobiles- Mustang" video.
i love the 78 king cobra that is clearly a 79 fox chassis. at least my fairmont is 78 lol
3:57 All those guys were married though.
This documentary is so bad at showing the cars, wrong year, wrong model almost every time! And it cut out the best generation, the S197!
The Kaitlin Jennifer
I like this but you got sooo much info wrong and scenes wrong and people wrong and dates wrong... Of note, Iaccoca oversaw the development of the 79 mustang but was fired therefore could not launch so instead Phil Cardwell did the launch (but was not responsible for design etc..). lots more unfortunately.
That is not a 1978 King Cobra at 15:29 c'mon!!.. Completely different body style
a lot missing ?
The mach 1 killed the Shelby ,Ford was tired of Shelby stealing there thunder sad but true ,after 66 they got heavier and heavier
@7:50 why show a fake Boss 302 with a Boss 429 hoodscoop? wow... done with this now.
The mach 1killed the Shelby mustang
ford ant the smartest just look at parts non interchange its a art to be that confounded .n i am a ford guy but use a ls gm n a 460 ford no newer trucks ford to pricy it just a truck n a engine 5.4l was last straw
This doc is so full of errors that it's a joke.
Yep...at 15:30 they show a '78' Cobra, that is in fact, the newer Fox body from 79.
I wonder if in FORD HQ, they still have hitler's medal given to Henry FORD for manufacturing, lol :)
23:30... the bruce jenner
So many mistakes in this documentary, many facts are all wrong
Could have done without the background crap music
its the way Americans love to do things, add shit music in the background.
No wonder Americans are so stupid.
The Mustang's what now? Wtf is a "day-boo"? ....lmao 😅😂🤣🤘🏻🇺🇸
SN95 are hideous, long live the SCJ
Get your facts straight. This video is all messed up.
This could have been done so much better, the mistakes in years, models, voice over to cars displayed were a total failure. Lots of good content, just a lack of knowledge.
It was just as bad as the mustang two they sucked
Gerry Wood no doubt, as a Ford guy, I hated the Mustang II, what a turd
This documentary =🐒💨💨💨💨💨
