    Stuff like this makes me proud to gate keep(or at least see who’s genuine or not). All memes aside I feel like the idea of gatekeeping is more important than ever, especially for little things you enjoy in life which eventually morphs into a mess due to people missing the point(In fashion or entertainment industry). I’m sure we both know that movie/gaming IPs get screwed out and not bearable to keep up yet with fashion you can still spot the genuine creator(s)/brands more than ever. I never indulge into social media because of how toxic and stupid it can be to “be popular” or show off your pieces, instead I enjoy talking about why i get my piece with my friends and family which makes me proud of what I own and even see if they like the creative vision from the creator(which is why I love undercover). Always happy to explain the brands and what they do, never about “oh you like this? Stay away”. It’s the random people that I don’t care at all, most of the time they’re not going to be in that landscape(especially since I live in LA where it’s more of a “vintage” minefield) so I just stay away lol. But seeing that whole ignorant comments section of the undercovies 85s just makes me appreciate that I’m away from that shit. Also seeing how quick people were able to shoot down “howcole” fans *Thanos voice* does put a smile on my face. That’s the side of gatekeeping doing its thing, making sure mfs don’t get the wrong ideas or try to start shit.

Not long time a go this also happened to JPG as some random clueless people accused the brand stealing the body print motifs which Gaultier originally created long time ago from a recent small designer. This also happened to Yeezy Shades as people adding fuel to accused Kanye stealing from random small designer, but the truth is Kanye steals from Margiela. In the future most likely same things gonna happen again, small unoriginal designer that blows up in the net getting credits and follower from an act of stealing smh.

    Hot take: understanding and appreciating culture is always something I'll try to do, but I really don't want to do that when capitalism gets in the way. So many "high fashion" enjoyers are lying to themselves when they gatekeep archive fashion and hate on reps when at the end of the day we're all just insignificant individuals being influenced by a subculture ultimately built on financial incentive and not true art or self-expression. It's about time people stop kidding themselves when they feel special shopping at a designer brand; you're just making another corporation richer under the guise of belonging to a collective of left-field fashion connoisseurs.
    Replica bros cannot dress to save their lives though. No argument there.

    • @mow5808
      @mow5808 2 года назад +2

      Been saying this. We kinda argue among ourselves about whos cooler, whos more unique whatever. But the real divider of class and what creates this pretentious snooty attitude is capitalism and this bunk ass consumer economy we live in. Let people enjoy what they enjoy and wear what they wanna wear, so what if theyre not spending 3000 dollars for a pair of jeans.

    rep culture is constantly justifying mass consumption and its so effed up. where's the individuality. if they rly liked something, they'd save up and buy it & likely end up keeping it for longer bc they worked to get that piece, rather than buying a cheap rep & wearing it once til it falls apart then dumping it into landfills. it hurts to see this happening smh.

      @fhtv  2 года назад +1

    • @mow5808
      @mow5808 2 года назад +3

      "if they really liked something theyd save up and buy something often indiscernible from replica for no reason but to spend more money". Appreciation of a piece has nothing to do with how much you buy it for, and individuality comes from how you use that piece in an outfit. There are a lot of rep clones out there that see "balenciaga" and nut all over themselves and then wear the same outfit. But to say that not buying a pair of pants worth the same as a used toyota camry is hurtful to fashion is, in my opinion, ridiculous. Now I don't wanna insult you or nun because i do respect ur opinion, a lot of stuff gets played out because of rep culture, that is definitely true.

    • @escapejudgement
      @escapejudgement 2 года назад

      @@mow5808 hey man do whatever you want. i'm not saying buying a piece of clothing is worth more than buying a car. obviously you should buy what you can afford. this is relative. whatever your financial situation is, make the best of what you got. that doesn't mean dropping racks on clothes. but saving a little bit at a time over a long enough time can help get you that piece on grailed or another platform for a fraction of retail. there's plenty of steals out there if you look hard enough. start small. at the end of the day its just clothes. prioritize according to your situation. but remember voting with your $ is real. if you support reps & ripping intellectual property from someone's art form, that is your choice. i'm not here to change your mind. i'm just voicing my own thoughts on the matter. in the end, i get why you wouldn't wana drop $200 for a pair of sneakers from a shitty company, & maybe thats enough for you to look to reps. that is up to you to justify. personally, i wouldn't even want a rep from that brand, bc even the reps would be promoting their brand. i'd rather save a little bit & buy secondhand from grailed or another platform. that way you're supporting sustainability & promoting a brand you like when you wear it. this way at least you can sell it if you end up not liking it anymore, but the expectation is that you buy with the intention of keeping it for as long as possible. buying @ retail is a luxury & privilege most ppl can't afford -- including me, its just not practical for my lifestyle & financial situation. but i'm okay with that.

    there's a pretentious feel of superiority when it comes to people preaching only buying real clothes. I been into reps for a few years and I've seen all the trends go by and I see that factories are only really replicating the super popular trendy pieces (raver denim, ricks, that OBNOXIOUS VETEMENTS HOODIE WITH THE R RATING IK YOU KNOW IT) and that combined with the predisposition of a follower mentality that a lot of these trend hoppers have kind of ruin those pieces for everyone. I shouldn't have to think so hard about buying a pair of rep miharas if its too popular or whatever. I'm just a broke mf who likes clothes that happen to be expensive. 99% of people buying mass amount of rep clothing are absolute donkeys. the fits on /r/qualityreps are so atrocious it's insane.
    also, don't dare to ever mention how their consumption behaviour might be unsustainable. they have never wasted even just a single thought on that and don't see the issue

    tiktok turned everything they overshare into cheap feeling trash tbh, art and fashion should remain exclusive to a certain extent, at least exclusive to those who make the effort in developing a personal style and in finding good pieces, we all know most tiktok consumers are jus photocopies of each other + there is nothing less ''fashion'' than speaking to a camera and being ''relatable'' which is the main tiktok thing, so, in my opinion fashion and tiktok (being relatable, speaking to an audience, saying where u get ur stuff (wtf) etc,) can't go together.

    As someone who is probably only surface level interested in fashion i dont know if i should give a fuck about this story (nothing against this video tho, it's very well made).
    It seems archive has the same amount of gate keepers, replica preachers and waste spitting people as any other area related to fashion.
    The "elitist" of fashion having the same problems as some "sneakerheads" is almost a bit comedic to me.

    Ironically everyone here fails to see themselves when they’re a 40 year old with actual responsibilities thinking back about how much mindless bullshit they spent their money and energy on such as caring about what fashion dudes online are wearing and if it’s real or not lmao grow tf up guys and look at it for what it is.
    If you think spending $5k on an archive raf sweater makes you realer than the guy who got the identical rep I think it says more about how insecure you are that you think senseless knowledge about a material item puts you above someone who probably has the same taste as you. Most of these fashion talks are drenched in elitist thinking coming from people who lack the most self awareness and fail to realize how corny they sound spending thousands on used clothes with holes in them but still can’t even properly talk to a girl just to be accepted by other dudes who can’t get girls while the dude in the reps just puts that shit on and moves on with his life and if his clothes gets ruined at some point guess what, he could care less.
