    despite me personally being sceptical about religion in general, i am extremely educated on islam. being raised in a muslim household by arabic parents and being arabic myself, in my opinion the move on juns part to incorporate burqas in his show isn't necessarily offense in any way. in the muslim religion the purpose of hijabs and burqas is primarily to promote modesty, and perhaps jun was making a statement about modesty within the world of fashion and western culture in general. on the other hand this move on juns part couldve been done with the intention of publicity to bring attention towards 9/11 and push forward his name and brand in the world of fashion. personally i think it's a statement of the duality of culture. And how the perspective of western culture in general opposes that of the ideologies of middle eastern culture in terms of how women are perceived and valued. jus my opinion, but what do i know im like 15 and i jus like fashion, its fun. curious what u think?

    great video! you definitely achieve your goal of
    making digestible, interesting, and educational fashion videos.
    i find it fascinating whenever people say that sadness inherently has more depth than happiness or that cuteness is shallow. it’s such a different way of seeing things. from my point of view, happiness and sadness are both present on a huge spectrum of emotion and can occur simultaneously, which is inherently complex. it’s not just that the dark things make the bright things brighter. it’s that happy and bright things can crop up during sad or difficult times and vise versa. there is no natural container separating happiness and sadness, so reality is often bittersweet or uncanny.
    i have had a tendency towards dark emotions for most of my life, and i’ve loved cute things for all of my life. there’s something about cute things that feel like a rush to me, when my brain is naturally prone to picking out the negative. i think cute things can be quite vulnerable and people respond quite strongly to the juxtaposition of the cute and the dark, to the extent that people seem to consider it morally wrong to portray the two together. as much as i hate heavy-handed edits of hello kitty with drugs and weapons, i do think that a subtle hand can make good use of the contrast between wholesome/neotenous elements and the sadness of life. i think an obvious example of this for me in fine art is yoshitomo nara.
    that said, cuteness in terms of mascots and other cartoonish symbols meant to drive consumption without other merits can be frustrating. i like thinking about the manipulativeness of shallow cute things like that from a design perspective, but it’s obviously something i wouldn’t buy into myself.
    my rant isn’t a criticism or argument against the anti-cute artists of the world. some of my favorite art came from people who i think would agree with the idea that sadness is more complex. i just personally don’t hold that viewpoint because for me there is no natural categorical or temporal distinction between sadness and happiness. life is an uncomfortable emotional soup where not every shade of emotional color has yet been catalogued by language or art. obviously, it makes it more interesting to me when people see things differently.
    anyway, i always look forward to seeing more videos by you, researching the things you mention, and reading interesting discussions in the comments.

    When speaking On the subject of things You have gripes with, I think the first 2 outfits to the left and right while not extravagant fit nicely and easily provide flair to an otherwise mundane outfit if worn right, but I agree with you in that second slew of photos he downright missed the mark with the skirt styling and his recent heavy use of logos

    What does jun care about islam? True Islam is the religion of conform or die, That seems completely what he's against.

    • @davespriter
      @davespriter Год назад

      idk what jun’s interest in islam is, but i think it’s interesting to examine how cultures and religions contain multitudes. to some people, both today and throughout history, “true” christianity is conform or die. but people continue to refuse to conform, both within the christian faith and within christian-dominated cultures but outside of the faith. in countries where christianity’s dominance and strictness has waxed and waned, the fact that “true” (or strict or fundamentalist or whatever) christianity is not the only kind of response that one can have to/within christian culture/influence seems self-evident. and clearly not all muslims are jihadist, so why not allow the examination of those non-fundamentalist grey areas in islam as well? or even, why not examine fundamentalism from a non-fundamentalist point of view? when someone refers to an idea in art or on the runway, they are not always endorsing or protesting that idea. sometimes they are trying to explore the idea and to find (or push!) the boundaries where that idea begins and ends.
      thus, eye-catching and transluscent niquabs that follow the physical structure of niquabs but that arguably fly in the face of the intention of niquabs through material and color alone, without a cheaply scandalous tact.
