What is SEALCOATING and why should I do it?
1. Sealcoating protects and prolongs the life expectancy of asphalt pavement by filling surface damage and providing a protective layer to keep out damaging UV rays, vehicle fluids, and water.
2. The low cost of regular sealcoating can save you money in the long run. A properly maintained and sealed asphalt surface has an extended lifetime and reduces long-term repair costs.
3. With exposure to the elements, asphalt pavement over time becomes faded in appearance. A fresh sealcoat application enhances the appearance of asphalt, making it look and wear like new.
4. Sealcoating is typically done using one of two application methods: spray or squeegee/brush.
5. Sealcoating accelerates the melting process of snow and ice on pavement surfaces. This helps to protect against water penetration, rain, frost and snow damage.
6. To correctly complete the sealcoating process, the air and pavement temperature is recommended to be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit for the duration of the application and for eight hours following the application.
7. Prior to pavement sealing, the asphalt surface should be cleared of all dirt and debris. In addition, minor repairs, like potholes and cracks, should be filled and vehicle fluids, like oil, should be properly removed.

Thats a big part of the process. Make sure the sealer stays on the driveway ONLY.
There is absolutely an art to even the most simple of tasks. They look simple when done by experts. Drywall, carpet and painting are good examples of tough jobs that look super easy when done by artisans that have years of experience.
YUP! Licensed painting contractor here, haha. Can’t tell you how often I have clients who “tried painting themselves” and the house looks like a bomb went off lol

Agreed. My dads driveway got new asphalt in the 80’s. It is still solid even though he hasn’t done shit to it. I guess some people know how to make driveways good from the beginning, and some don’t.

Protip: Prep is key, clean and remove all dirt, dust and debris. If u moisten driveway first with a mist of water so its damp (no free standing water or puddles) it the sealcoat adheres better by eliminating air voids in crevices. It spreads smoother than on a dry driveway as well.
i may be 53 yrs old now and a business owner in a diff field, but there was a time that I personally sealed 100's of driveways for 6 years from age 16-22 every Summer. ABSealers of Wayland MA back from 1984-1990 It was great money and a great experience.

I like that you take the time to edge the lawn and apply the sealant with a squeegee. I've never seen any of the "pro's" do that where I live. They all just spend a minute to blow the driveway with a leaf blower and then spray the tar. Then you see lap marks!

@@valentinaokeanova463 ни какого смысла в этом нет. Своиство укрепляет поверхность полотна от дальнейшего разрушения(откол щебня), если бы заметили то дорожное полотно светлого цвета чистично с тёмными пятнами что не очь приятно глазу. (нет эффекта монотонно ти).
Это скорее декоративное вещь
Под солнцем начнет нагреваться и запах резины будет стоять

Поверх наносится тонким слоем.

Didn't need to. It's flexible and they got under it. They didn't even get any on it...the discoloration on the bottom of the pipe goes away when he lifts it up to go under it. So all is well.
