Thanks so much for the review. It was a great video and the explanation of our story and both bourbons was spot on! Really glad you enjoyed them. Thank you again!
Just picked up the 118 proof Barrel Strength offering. $58. Really nice citrus/orange and dark chocolate notes... like a nice dessert. Drinks nice and easy... very approachable for a cask strength bourbon.
The background setting, the close up display of the bottles, the history and great explanation of the bourbons, the easy to follow presentation, is probably one of the BEST bourbon RUclips videos that I have ever seen. Great work. Awesome job and Thank You.
Excellent review, fun and honest without all the goofiness from other reviewers. Just picked up today the Penelope BS Batch 07…omgosh is it delicious!! And you’re absolutely right, it’s scary easy to drink for a 115.2 proof!!
I picked up a bottle of barrel strength in Omaha from a recommendation from the bar keep. Pleasantly surprised at the quality. Smooth and easy to sip for the proof . I'd buy again.
I was pleasantly surprised with the Penelope line. Absolutely love what they are doing and they are a great group of people as well. Great review, Cheers.
Awesome review ! I’m serving the Barrel Strength this weekend as part of a whisky tasting line up. Your notes are so on point especially the smoked orange 🍊👌🏼
Hands down the best bourbon especially the double barrel at 60% alcohol and you would never know it was so high in alcohol, the best I've ever had. It is true it great for a newbie or a hard core expert taster of bourbon whiskeys.
Thanks for the awesome review! Have a barrel strength on the way I'm excited to try. Plus, the Penelope presentation looks like pretty wine bottles....love how you paired stemmed glencairns for your tastings! Nice touch!!
I guess I was lucky. After watching this video I went to the liquor store 3 miles from my house and they happened to have the Barrel strength for $55.99. They had a Batch 4 and about 6 Batch 5's on the shelf. I grabbed one of the Batch 5's. Will probably pop it tonight to give it a try. I am located in Georgia about 15 miles west of Atlanta.
Had the four grain 80 proofer and it was solid. Def got the sweet peach and pear bites which was a unique experience but not worth 40$. I’d rather hit a daily sipper or just pay a couple more bucks for rare breed, 1792 full proof etc.
I love transparency. I also love quality and repeatability. Penelope may be too young and too new to run at such a high price. I'll look for the barrel proof at around $45 if it comes this way but there are way too many start-up distilleries that have been around longer that deserve a better shake at the market.
Frey Ranch bourbon is a four grain. Frey Ranch is now doing barrel strength barrel selects of their four grain bourbon - yum. Frey Ranch rye is 100% rye and I think it's their best product
I finally got a solid pour (open and uninterrupted with a Good pallet) and man this is really good. I mean very good. And my collection is always growing but yeah.. don’t sleep on this. It’s good. (Barrel strength)
I actually have the special release from Seelbachs and it's really good. I love what they are doing for sure from the get-go. Great review as always! Cheers Jason!🤙
Batch 5 came off a little more nutty to me than batch 4 did. I got it around the same time I first tried Smoke Wagon UCUF and prefered the Penelope. The picks are phenomenal too!
Very helpful vid, Thanks J. I needed an interesting 80pr rec for guests that can't handle higher proofs and the 4 grain sounds like a good option. (How much Basil Hayden can you force on people? : )~
Hey buddy, great review agree they are doing some cool things and remember when I reviewed the 80 proof was a really nice entry type of bourbon and the barrel strength offered a bit more complexity and was nice to sip on. Cheers from your boy Ice Man!
I have dove into the barrel proof a few times and mine is really muted. Drinks easy but not a lot of flavor. I am about 4 or 5 pours in so I’m not sure it’s gonna open up anymore, but I hope I’m wrong.
I have the 80 proofer it's nice as an easy sipper. A tad thin but nice. I did not want to become a high high proof snob but I have the JD single barrel barrel proof the Knob single barrel 120 proof the W T rare breed and I do gravitate to those so will try the barrell proof version.
I have some four grain high-rye bourbon from a brand called Coit Spirits that is sourced through MGP, and at 98 proof it's not bad,... I will certainly be looking out for this Penelope Cask Strength. I'll buy damned near anything that says "distilled in Indiana" though,...Hahaha! Love me some MGP!!!
My local store had them both in stock today for $30 and $45, so I grabbed a bottle of the 80 proofer. Not my favorite, but certainly drinkable. All citrus and spice for me, not particularly sweet at all.
Saw the barrel strength batch 8 for $85 yesterday. Prices are getting way out of hand for so many bottles. I'd love to add a bottle, but not for that price.
Sounds interesting but i think $65.00 for a 3-4 yr is just a bit overpriced. So many other great options at that price ECBP is 12 yrs old ,Russell's, rarebreed ,1920 just to name a few . I think like most people i would probably be more likely to give it a try if it was around $50.00
Yes the price can be steep for sure and I understand completely. Although a good affordable 4 grain is hard to come besides the woodford wheated but that's only 90 proof
There's a few folks that are right around that price point. You might get hit with shipping costs depending on where you live, but feel free to email at michael@penelopebourbon.com. Happy to share a few with you! Thanks
I guess I was lucky, I went to my local Liquor store in Georgia about 15 miles west of Atlanta and they had the Penelope Barrel Strength Batch 5 for $55.99. At that price and after watching this video I figured I had to get one to give it a try. Happy hunting.
Where do you find this stuff? Can't be Ohio. Wait a minute. You're a transplanted Buckeye from the Empire State. Just kidding. I'm fairly new but appreciate all of the info you provide. In Ohio, are all liquors sold in Ohio sold at MSRP?
Time to hunt that Barrel Strength! Add it to the rotation AND support the NJ native 🙌🏽 Update.. I JUST PICKED IT UP TODAY! 1month later just browsing local websites and found it 2 blocks away from my house. #SCORE
Thanks so much for the review. It was a great video and the explanation of our story and both bourbons was spot on! Really glad you enjoyed them. Thank you again!
Just opened the barrel strength batch 06 and loving it!
Just cracked my first Penelope which also happens to be my first Four Grain and it’s awesome. Great job!

Agreed. Something for us to rise to.
I honestly believe that Jason has created the best channel on the "WhiskeyTube".

Penelope is a great pour!! Architect is my favorite
I was pleasantly surprised with the Penelope line. Absolutely love what they are doing and they are a great group of people as well. Great review, Cheers.
Jason, the barrel strength is such a nice delicate bourbon. This barrel strength is one of the most drinkable for sure.

J...picked up the batch 11 (BS) in the Pittsburgh area a few wks. ago. Does not disappoint. Def worth the 65 considering its unique 4 grain mashbill.
Great review Jason! I really enjoyed the barrel strength as well, great alternative to the standard options at that price point like you said
Thanks for the awesome review! Have a barrel strength on the way I'm excited to try. Plus, the Penelope presentation looks like pretty wine bottles....love how you paired stemmed glencairns for your tastings! Nice touch!!
Absolutely dig the tunes on all the episodes Jason! Man, I'd have to say you are my favorite bourb'tuber. Keep up the good work, brother. 🤜
Just opened batch #8 and it very good, I like it for a young bourbon cast strength.

Thanks Jason C, enjoyed the review and the intro music. Will look for barrel strength version...cheers.
Old elk has a nice 4 grain 🌾 as well for a decent price

I loved both the BP and the Rosé finished!!
Great job Jason. Love your videos and tastings. Thanks
Would love to see a review of the Barrel Strength Batch 7!

I enjoyed the barrel strength. I got crazy peppered grapefruit on the nose. It was interesting

Awesome reviews,and great beats.Too cool man.Keep it up.Ooh 160?that is 🥃
I am a beginner to bourbon so the 80 proof intrigues me. At $40, seems like it’s worth a try especially because it is so different
The double strength is the best bourbon I've ever had and at the price point I bought it at at $55 was a steal.

Huh... a Rose finish is something I haven't heard about before! Hope that plus the CS gets to Ohio.
The Rosé is so good

Yay....yet another bottle I’ll never be able to find in South Carolina! 😕😢
Seelbachs
Ive heard good things about the Rose.

Who else sees PooP? Am I the only trash person here?
Lol
