"We are all going to die!"
This either appeals to the RPG player, or it doesn't. It is also what sets games like RQ at odds with other games like DND. For me, the comparison metaphor is that one is like Greek tragedy while the other is more akin to superhero comic books. It seems little wonder that each will attract its own audience of loyal enthusiasts.
May I suggest the Upland Marsh and Devil's Swamp for honourable mentions?
Devil's Marsh is a good choice.
Dorastor?........ run screaming from the video... ( silent scream).
The Shadow Plateau would be one of my choices.
Good eating.
"THE SURGEON IMPERIAL'S WARNING: Visitors to Dorastor have been determined to provide nourishment and amusement for big, rude, ugly disgusting things." 😀
"Men, some of you may not be coming back; the rest of you definitely won't."
The thing I always struggle with when running RuneQuest is getting the balance right between the game being too deadly and the PCs all arming up with Regrow Limb (if you'll excuse the pun) when the danger all starts to feel a little Deadpool-y with PCs just going off to gain a new arm after every fight.
What about the far, northern pole with its huge glaciers or the far, south pole with literal deserts of fire? Is there life in either of those places?
Not mortal life, but there are lots of spirits and demigods there. They're both on the edge, or beyond, the middle world, and so exist sorta in the god plane/godtime.
and I though Ogre island was harsh.
