If you play Pickleball and are looking for a paddle check out the NEW KoBo paddles by clicking on this link davek.kobopick... which will take you to their website.
I have had the opportunity to try these paddles and have had the privilege of meeting and playing with the owner of KOBO and his wife who actually designed these paddles from the ground up and worked with a manufacturing plant to produce them. They are all in and committed to hitting the ground running and I am pretty darn certain you will be seeing these paddles across the country very very soon.
And in return if you click on the link above and happen to make a purchase, we will get a small reward which in turn will help our channel. Feel free to share that link with others.
At this point I will also be doing demo days at Pickleball courts as we travel. Hey we like the product and love the story of a small family-owned company starting a new journey and we hope you do to.

A simple comment really helps our channel. Even if you have nothing to say if you just say "This comment is for RUclips" it helps our channel more than you think. And simply hitting the thumbs up is another simple way to show support. Thanks everyone!!
I do miss that about RAM. The exhaust brake in the RAM is the best. Thank you for sharing.
The exhaust brake on the Ram is second to know I feel safe saying. Thanks Greg!! Have a great week.
We appreciate you videoing our little town of South Fork and the beautiful wolf creek pass.
We enjoy South Fork and of course Wolf Creek Pass, well it has so much to offer . Thanks for taking time to watch and comment.
I’ve watched this video multiple times. Thank you for sharing the beautiful scenery. I have a 23 Ram 3500. I would be happy with a Ram 5500 too.
I bet your 23 Ram 3500 is a darn nice machine. If we were not pulling the weight that we do it would be something I would consider for sure. Hey thanks for watching and the comment.
Thank you for taking the time to share the scenery. When you see majestic photos of the Rockies, you don't ordinarilly see a photo of the closeup view too. This is that closeup view. Very nice. Very pretty.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!! Thanks for stopping in and taking time to comment. .
Loved driving with you friend, scenery was beautiful, thankyou.
👍🙂♥️♥️
Glad you rode along!! It really is a pretty area.
Great video guys. Looked like a great drive with all that scenery. Thats the type of traveling I like. No drama. Take care. Kent and Tami
Thanks for riding along.
Real world data is always encouraging. Bring it on! More, please . . . .
Glad you enjoyed it. I certainly hope to bring a lot more content like it as we go along.
Such a perfect rig.
Thanks, we really enjoy it.
What beautiful views. Glad the truck is working so well. 👍#66
Thanks, that is a great area for sure. Thanks for the support.
Great video! My neck of the woods.
Thanks, Thats pretty country!!
Great scenery 😎 trucks working well 👍
Thanks, yes, the truck is really working out well.
Very impressive Dave. Good info particularly for those who have not yet experienced that downhill side of Wolf Creek Pass. Hope to see you guys before too long.
Glad you enjoyed it Skip. Get on over here and we can run the pass together as we head back for the rally.
That 4.88 gear really helps on those grades too . Good job .
Oh yes, the 4:88 gears sure make a difference when pulling something this heavy. Thanks for the comment!!
I chose a Ram 5500 to tow our 42 foot Sandpiper. Love both units, but really appreciate the Dodge. Great no drama towing for sure.
Great!!! Yes, the no drama part with towing is HUGE. Thanks for stopping in and taking the time to comment.
Congratulations on hitting the 500 subscriber mark!!! Happy for you Dave! Love your Ram Truck. Thanks for showing its capabilities on Wolf Creek Pass.
Thanks MR G!!! It was a long haul to 500 I must say. And thanks on the truck, it's a joy to drive.
thx for sharing. stay safe
You're welcome. And thank you for watching and leaving a comment.
You made the right call on the Ram 5500! I see a lot of people trying to tow a big 5th wheel with a 2500. I worry about them, when I see it. I love Pagosa Springs! You will love it!
Thanks, I have always been a numbers and a overkill guy. There are sooo many rigs running around over weight and it's amazing how many people have no clue what their rig even weighs for sure..
I enjoyed this video. Great tips on the speed. Love my 4.88 gear ration and larger brakes as well. Wish I had the exhaust brake though but usually my tow haul mode keeps me in check going down hills. Congrats on the 500 mark as well. 👍🏼
Yes, those 4:88 gears are a dream in the hills, actually I like them all around. Thanks on the congats!!! And thanks for the support.
Beautiful drive …. nice scenery while letting that Cummins do it’s thing! I have a Ram 3.0 eco diesel and love it for light towing. It’s works well on the downhill grades as well. Have fun in Colorado! Thanks for sharing! Steve and Hiromi
Thanks for stopping in and the comment!!
Nothing like the Cummins exhaust brake
It's a great thing for sure.
Thanks for watching, we hope you enjoyed it. Don't forget to hit that thumbs up and consider subscribing if you haven't already.
Love the scenery. Absolutely beautiful and the truck is doing great!! The camera seems to be doing a great job...with the filters you get I'm sure it will be amazing. Enjoy your time there in Colorado. It sure is beautiful. (Emilie and Tito)
Hi guys!!! Thanks for the compliments, we sure love the truck. And the filters are due in today so another learning curve to toss into the mix LOL!!! Thanks for stopping in.
We have a 2019 3500 RAM HD hauling a 40 New Horizon Summit. I enjoyed your video. The 3500 hauls the Summit just awesome. Again, thanks for the video.
Very beautiful, scenic drive! That is one heck of a truck! Those exhaust brakes appear to be the answer to steep downgrade driving. It appears you barely exceeded 2500 rpm. I'd like to look into having them installed on my Ford F150. Great video. Thanks for sharing this with us. Have a great summer.
Thanks, yup, the exhaust brakes make mountain driving a whole lot les eventful. And even running around empty they sure are nice when rolling off a offramp or just coming up to a stop sign. Thanks for stopping in.
Great view I enjoyed ur videos 👍33
Happy to see u friend and want to see ur videos more & more
Thanks, we appreciate the support.
Thank you.
You are certainly welcome. Glad you enjoyed it.
How does your rig do coming down sisco mountains from Oregon to California? That's one steep and long hill. My cousin lived in Jacksonville Oregon al drove up and down that hill in my 1989 12 valve wd 250 4x4 with the 5 speed getrag transmission with 354 gears did not use 5th gear because it was overdrive. Going up the hill i used all 5 gears but going down that hill only used 4 gears and they didn't have any exhaust brakes for that truck .its not how fast you get there it's the getting there in one piece. Another awesome video take care and be safe on your journeys. Denis from Santa Rosa CA.
Are you talking about on I-5? If so no drama at all going down that. And you are so correct, it's not about how fast but how safe when you are rving like this. I don't think everyone thinks the same way at times however.
AMAZING VIDEO
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!!
Hi Dave, enjoyed the fantastic sunny mountain views and your exhaust braking demonstration 👍. Question 🙋 To test my understanding, in order to comply with the speed restriction👮♂️you are holding the Ram in 2nd gear and this is because speed control / cruise Control would only operated above 25 mph?
That is correct. I have used cruise going downhill on lesser grades where the speed limit was higher but for me the cruise control lets it run a bit farther beyond the speed I want to be at and I just don't feel like I have the control that I do by using gears and exhaust brake combo. Glad you enjoyed the views.
Yes great views. The kettle is boiling so I’m off to find out what ‘pickleball’ is now. 😊
@@pawlhart3950 I just got home from the Pickleball courts in fact. Got in 3 hours of play before the wind picked up. Great sport. It's actually funny that I play so often yet have notreally talked about it on our channel lol.
I’ve watched a few of your videos. I think you have around 4300lb pin weight.
I custom ordered a 45’ Sundowner Living Quarters toy hauler. Dual axle, with gross trailer weight of 18.500lb. With all toys loaded, it’s right at 16,500. That’s easy work for my 2017 dually F-350 with the 6.7 diesel.
However, the pin weight is really high, over 5000lb when loaded. I’m well within my GVWR, towing capacity, front axle, and just barely under the rear axle rating. Not much I can change about loading the trailer. The tires, like most gooseneck style horse trailers, are way back.
I’ve got a couple issues. Issue 1, I get some bad harmonic vibrations when braking hard, this is my big concern. If I ever need to make an emergency stop, it’s gonna be rough. No vibrations if using only trailer brakes, or just truck brakes.
The issue is definitely a trailer issue as it’s way over the max recommended pin weight percentage of 25% or so.
Do you think a 4500, or 5500 with the much stiffer suspension would help?
Great channel
George
First off thanks for taking time to watch our video's and commenting. It sounds like you have a nice toy hauler for sure but yup, that braking issue would concern me to. I don't know that the stiffer suspension would solve your problem BUT the 4500's and 5500's do have larger brakes thank the F350's and 3500's and that certainly would be an improvement. Of course having the higher rear axle weight carrying capabilities of the 5500 couldn't hurt for sure.
Thanks
I’ve been looking at a 4500 Limited with a Western Hauler bed. 4:10 gears and the de-rated Cummings
It’s an 84” CA truck. But with the 4500, it still seems like the rear axle will be pretty maxed out. The rated capacity is right around 8000, but the hauler bed weight is not accounted for.
Given, that I’ll be towing that high pin weight trailer, should I be looking at a 5500
Cool video! We did the wolf last year and so beautiful scenery. Where are you staying?
It is a great drive and the lakes on both sides are very nice as well you you find the time. We stayed at Mountain Landing.
Just a question. Why didn't you use the auto brake option? It would keep you from slowing down below your desired speed but wouldn't let you go faster.
Going down hills like Wolf Creek I don't like the lag of Auto mode. I want it to come on when I want it to. Plus this was more of a demo. Maybe I should do a demo of auto mode also. Thanks for the question.
Why didn't you get an hdt truck 🤔good video 😀
Thats simple,,, didn't want one.
Hey Dave - Great video
As a thought could Diane get some video of the bikes in the back of the 5th wheel with the cover on.
Thanks
Dang I should have had her get closer as she followed me over Wolf Creek Pass. We won't be moving again for 1.5 months but will be headed back over the pass. Is there anything in particular you want to see?
Just wanted to see how the bike cover handled the trip. We have our new bikes and bike cover , just curious
Thanks
@@jimlookabaugh9208 Sure. Well that cover has gone from roughly 3000 miles behind the RV and is perfect condition. It shows no wear at all.
I figured if you purchased the bike cover it would work for us.
So thanks for doing the research, it’s much appreciated.
We are basically home till 10-31-21 then the big trip starts
Tank you
You are welcome, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping in.
How is the quality of the Classy Chassis hauler bed? I've been looking at them and Utility Bodywerks. Both in northern Indiana. Looking at the Kelderman 4-link rear suspension and possibly the Kelderman air ride front suspension. No trailer yet so it would be a daily driver for a while.
We are very happy with the quality of the bed, no issue there. I wouldn't however recommend the hard tire cover from Classy and I can't say that I'm overly happy with customer service after the sale from Classy. The Kelderman upgrade sure makes it a pleasure to drive.
Very nice
Thanks Ron!!
Wow did the camper have brakes also if not good job RAM ! It doesn’t take that much power once you get it headed off over there quitters would be my biggest concern 😟😧 gad the camera didn’t do the leading !it would of messed the beautiful view up! Thanks 😊 much
Well the RV does have brakes however they were applied only once near the bottom when we came into that hairpin curve I mentioned, the truck did a great job! Thanks for stopping in and watching.
Hey Dave 👊
Ron!!
Hey Dave, I looked at all the RAM colors that the 5500 was offered in and cannot find that color, did you repaint the truck?
Walnut Brown was offered that year, It sounds like it has been taken off the list then, bummer, I think it's a great color.
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707 What a perfect color for a New Horizons Champagne!
Great video. Do you have the air ride suspension on the front too? What GPS do you use?
No air up front and we use the Garmin rv gps.
i currently live in a class a motor home with a 460 gas engine 1994 newmar and a tag axle and it does not like hills we have to stay at gas stations sometimes or walmarts
Well I guess that comes with having a gasser at times. Hey, as long as it get you there at the end of the day thats what counts right?
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707 yeah.
You should do Monarch pass
We have done that on motorcycle rides but not in the RV's yet.
Can you put your cruise control on with the exhaust brake on automatic. My 2021 3500 i can put the cruise control on with my automatic exhaust brake when it goes 2 miles per hour over set speed exhaust brake comes on at 3 miles per hour it down shifts one or more gears .
I think I normally use full exhaust. Next time we tow I will try to remember to check.
Dave, I am a recent viewer and really enjoy your content. I have noticed in a couple of your videos you have mention your experience in Classy Chassie. If you had to do it all over again would you deal with Tom or would you give BWerks a try. Fell free to reach out to me privately if you would rather. I am going to make my choice in the next 6 months. My 350 Ford is just not large enough for my Luxe.
Hi Robin, First off thanks for stopping in and following along. To begin with I spoke with Utility a couple weeks ago because I had heard a rumor that I wanted to make sure was true, Utility is actually making the beds for Classy Chassis at this point to Classy Chassis specs which I guess has no real meaning but I figured I would toss that in. Regardless of who you have make the bed the truck itself will of course still do the work and regardless of who you have make the bed you will have a darn nice setup. And I will say that I do love our truck. But to answer your question as you asked it,,, I can NOT reward poor customer service so IF we were to have another unit built I would give Utility a shot. To this date Tom from Classy Chassis has not responded to any of my issues and that type of service will not allow me to spend one more cent with them. In fact when we get down south for the winter I am going to look into having any and all of their badging removed from the ruck because I will not promote or back them. Again I love the truck, just not the customer service. Keep in mind we are not talking about a money issue because at this point we are talking about under $1000 out of pocket and if he would have stepped up and even offered any help or concern at all it would be a different story . This is pure and simple a customer service after the sale issue with me. . .
I will also add that Tom from Utility just retired and that company is owed by Luxe so it could be interesting in the near future to see how that all unfolds. If Luxe tells Tom from Classy that they are not going to make his beds any longer it could end up being one less company to choose from. Time will tell and I am not wishing that to happen at all. But, just be aware. But I guess if you buy from Classy and Utility stops making his beds and he gets out of that part of the business it wouldn't really matter because he doesn't stand behind his product anyway. Sorry, that wasn't very professional to say but it is what it is.
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707 thanks but my decision is already made. I will be going with Utility Bodywerks. Your reply was enough to turn me off to him.
@Dave and Diane Throwing Caution to the Wind - Really appreciate your content and calm, common sense approach to the lifestyle, as well as the thought and work you put into the videos. But, have to say it does not seem to be safety common sense to be hand-holding camera while driving; especially doing shots that take your eyes off the road etc.. Please get a couple of fixed cameras so you can keep both hands on the wheel as our safety example.
Point well taken. Thanks for stopping in and the comment.
In Low & Down Slow. Textbook.
Yes sir, mountain towing 101.
What dash cam are you now using? Thanks, Dave
I don't us a actual dash cam. I do at times run with a Gopro in the window and now the DJI Pocket 2.
Dave, what RPM are you turning when climbing up that pass? We have the same truck as you pulling the same weight camper and will be coming out that way. Thanks!
I just don't remember and it's not something I caught on video. I had going down info on my mind I guess.
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707 no problem and thanks. We just went up a 7 degree grade and I had to lock it in 3rd and climb at about 35 mph turning almost 3k rpm. Do you do about the same?
@@budjackson2175 pretty close.
The original 6.7 VGT could provide 130 retarding horsepower. The newer smaller VGT in the later trucks can provide 175 retarding horsepower. Ford and GM do not have that sort of capability with just a variable vane turbo. And 37000 pounds going down that 7 % grade pushes with 172 horsepower. Nice balance.
Good info Gerald, thanks for that. I know we are very happy with the performance in our rig.
Your Garmin will show the grade and altitude.
I knew about the altitude but not the grade. I will look for that, thanks.
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707 also, have you thought about using your cruise control when going UP AND DOWN those grades. I noticed you kept saying you had to speed up when going gown the grade. If you set the cruise on 30 MPH with the tow haul mode on and no engine brake, I'm certain that would be enough and be very safe going down. Almost like tow haul and the engine brake was to much... I use cruise control probably 95% of the time when towing. Love it.
If you drive in the UK waving a camera around like that and police saw you your next vehicle would be a bicycle😂. Just spotted the throw caution to the wind reference! That explains a lot!
LOL,,, copy that.
did you set the gear in manual mode? That helps to keep the speed down.
Yes I did, I wanted to do it the way it should be done to see how it would perform. Thanks for popping in!!
Do you have to get CDL licenses for your Truck ??
The truck itself does not require a CDL.
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707
Cool ! THANK YOU ... I saw a video If you are 26k lbs with truck and trailer then you need a CDL , I think it was On Big trucks , Big RVs .
To be clear I said the truck itself does not require a CDL. Whether or not you might require something else to haul what you have hooked up could be a different story. I make it a point to not talk politics, religion or law on my site so I suggest you contact your local DMV. Sorry but in todays world we all need to cover our own asses LOL!!
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707
That's for sure 💯 ..Yeah I was only interested in if the 5500 Ram required a CDL and you answered that well .. I only said the other part about the haul and Truck weight being 26k just incase someone read our comments so they would be aware on the 26k weight laws . Even if your state doesn't have the 26k laws and you drive in another state that could be something to know ... thanks again for your help and the videos ... stay safe out there . 🙏
Fun! .....
Thanks for stopping in.
How does the truck ride unloaded? I have a 3500 and it rides rough.
I have owned a number of trucks in the F350 type range and I would put the ride a little better than them. But for it being a 5500 thats pretty darn good.
Got a 3500 too. What makes a helluva difference is I air down the fronts to 53 PSI and the backs to 55 PSI. I also have the factory air bags, so doing these 2 things makes a huge difference.
Several times we have disconnected and I have forgotten to air down from 65 and 80 to my non towing pressure, and it is very noticeable!! But is is a 1 ton dooly, so she aint gonna ride like a half-ton truck.
Hope this helps!
👍😃🍻
Since your trailer is over 26k what special license do you have?
No special license required in Oregon. Each state is different however so everyone should check in the state they are licensed.
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707 Great, I thought the 26k was a requirement from the USDOT.
@@historicspencernc9698 that might be so with commercial use. I guess if that held true for private use we would drop 100lbs and not worry about it lol. Easy enough.
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707 I am glad we are having this discussion. There are lots of ideas on this subject. My research on this... USDOT... They do not require true RVers to weigh camper. But tow rig total weight can be weighed. Any rig (RV) (Trailer) with 26,001#GVW MUST have CDL. Just for thought.
Danny
@@historicspencernc9698 You need to check your state, most states have an RV exclusion. We can register an RV right up to gross combined of 80K and not need a special license. CDL is for commercial though so not likely you need to become commercial some states do have rated drivers license though. When you look at the place you are reading the 26,001 from remember to read the entire line including the "any commercial vehicle over etc." People miss that all the time and some people openly lie on purpose to scare others about the license.
Is a CDL required for this
No, we are a few hundred pounds under at this point.
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707 even with the gvwr combination of both rigs.
@@tomintemann7844 I always tell people to check with the DMV for the state they are licensed in for their individual requirements. It's just safer that way for everyone.
@@daveanddianethrowingcautio5707 ya my state isn’t very clear on the matter.
Just like where you live allthe trees that's God's country.
I tell ya, everything out west fits us very well.
What sucks about wolf creek. Is the stupid bicyclists who ride jn the lane around a bend and you got to try and avoid them as they re going slower then the speed limit
I guess we have been lucky, we have never come across any bicyclists on any of our runs over it.
Pretty boring video...........but thats just what you want when crossing Wolf Creek pass!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol!!! It really was pretty boring wasn't it Tim!! But like you said, boring is just fine when doing mountain passes. Thanks for the comment Tim.
"Detuned" to 800 ft. lbs? Cummins 6 good for at least 500k miles fully loaded. Personally, I could never own a v8 Diesel with aluminum cylinder heads. Aisin 6 speed MUCH better than all of this new 10 speed junk!
That transmission is garbage. I have a 2022 same transmission it blew the seal in a drum at 10,600 miles.
Sorry to here you had issues but really happy with mine so far.
@Dave and Diane Throwing Caution to the Wind they had 5 2022 with same problem
@@Youmommacallsme that's a bummer for sure. I guess I should be happy mine is a 2018 and still going strong.
