The outfit turned out so cute! And yeah most vintage isn't super rare, although a lot of the vintage we get exposed to on the internet is pricey and rare.
Absolutely girl. Yes. Couldn’t have said it better myself but that is exactly what makes vintage so interesting. It’s just a peek into the everyday of the past
I love vintage pieces because there is such attention to detail and are often made really well. As is materials and such. I don’t care if I’m the only one wearing it or one of many. The little details make me feel special. Do I think it’s really cool to own a unique piece? Yes of course! But I also love the pieces that aren’t as ‘unique’ or ‘rare’ because it means nothing if I don’t feel good in it! 😄
I think a lot of people fail to realize that the vintage that’s survived has done so because of people like you and your family. Those pieces were loved and used and maintained. Stored in closets or put away.
Times I find vintage that trickles across from west to east is a cherished find as I love taking inspiration from the past to either make inspired designs or make the same version yet in durable fabrics to be worn comfortably ❤
Right ! I sell vtg clothing & hardgoods and if a friend is out shopping with me they grab ANYTHING old and think it's worth soooo much JUST because it's OLD. I remember thinking the same many moons ago
Yes! I love vintage for the look and the history, not the monetary value. I don't want musuem pieces, cuz then i can't wear them. And this goes beyond clothes too. My grandma gave me one of her old dolls, it was really special to her, and i love it so much, she told me from the beginning that it might be worth a lot of money and if we ever needed it, she would be fine with me selling it. (she might have thought i was getting to old for dolls lol. Even tho i was only a year older then her when she got the doll) i did eventually look up what the doll was called, (Little Miss Reading Fashion Doll) because she kept wnatong me to look it up. The doll usually only sells for about $300 and my cat chewed one of the toes off, so mine probably isn't even worth that. And I've had to repair a lot of the clothes. When i told my grandmother, she was really surprised, but i was happy, cuz i didn't wnat to sell the doll anyway. ❤ To me she looks a lot like my imagined version of the Trixie Belden character from the old mystery series, so thats what i named her. I love her! ❤❤❤
I agree!! I have a lot of my grandma and great grandma’s dresses, and while it would be cool for them to be rare, nothing is cooler than knowing that these pieces were absolutely loved and saw life through many decades, and that my great grandma was, and grandma still is, fashionable as hell.
I got to pick up a secondhand vintage American Shirt Dress recently, and even though there’s a lot of them out there I still just feel cool wearing it for its 70s-80s origin :)
My favorite thing about buying vintage is thinking what could've happened. I have one dress that I think Simeon in the 60s got engaged in and had her first kiss in. I have one that I think someone wore to war protests. I love thinking these dresses have been on wild magical adventures and now they hold memories of me as well
This is very true! I’m an antique book collector, I usually buy books very cheap because there’s a shop I regular that has good prices (usually under five euro for a nineteenth century book). Some books are technically rare, as in there aren’t many of them around these days, but that doesn’t necessarily equate monetary value. And that’s fine! Every book in my collection is valuable to me, I love studying their history even if it’s not anything super ‘exciting’.
Some of my favorite vintage pieces are... someone's beautiful home sewing project - I have a 60's courthouse wedding bridal gown (or a really bold mod bride - blue satin liner under white eyelet lace in a cute mid-60's jam) that was homemade, a red velveteen bubble skirt dress that makes me look *so fancy* a like 70's European cheap and cheerful polyester Halston knockoff in sunshine yellow, a mystery 80's dress in yhe most insane sparkle rainbow on pink sheer office dress, and when I style it it makes me look like a 9-5 character on acid. I love my King Kamehameha's (I i have a weak spot for weird silhouettes big pockets bows and huge crasy prints ans souvenir wear from the 50's hits all the spots!) but these cheaper ubiquitous finds are also really really fun!
i actually inherited some old austrian coin buttons from my grandma and i looked them up and they're not worth much, but they certainly are neat little trinkets to have
Also! Most of what we lose to time is all the items people consider mundane because it's "not valuable enough to keep". As a result the most precious and rare items survive the longest, while the most used common items are worn down, thrown away, and lost to time
i have a pair of earrings that if they arent true 60s ones, they look at least old enough to be like from the 80s maybe?? basing it on the fact that clip on earrings seemed to be quite common a while back?? (im 20 so yes the 80s were a while back, but its not ancestral by all means haha) either way im glad to have them, as a staple simple pair that probably every girl from the 60s (or 80s) had, which will go well with my project of making 60s dresses for myself (ofc motivated by me having these earrings in the 1rst place)
I think there are similar buttons made by the Dritz brand that you can buy at a fabric store. I have a pack at home now. Does this happen to be a hand made garment? It’s cute either way
You see that all the time on antiques road show! Unless the vintage piece is very rare, or it has a designer named attached, the likelihood that it's worth a lot of money is slim. If you maybe have a couture Dior new look dress or something like that, obviously yes! Bookoo money right there. But if you just have a 1950s prom dress in the style of the new look, maybe a couple hundred bucks at best.
My favourite vintage dress has a label 'Made in West Germany'. It is not worth a fortune but that is a piece of history embodied in a dress label. And that makes it priceless to me.
Ahh! I had a pair of vintage horn rim glasses (I loved them so but.. Ancient frame components = bad time for a clumsy person) with a huge "Made in WEST Germany" on the inside of one arm and it's super funny/weird that glasses made long before an event I saw as a kid (I'm a "cold Milenneal " aka "was alive or of viewing aga of the Berlin wall teardown") was still out there and completely usable! Also the writing was so big and white you could see it if I was wearing them down my nose and my dad thought the huge "Don't worry no commie touched these glasses!" Was the funniest shit ever.
The real difference in vintage clothing is that they commonly used much higher quality fabric, and a lot of modern styles, well, just show too much, and if you're not young and beautiful, like our host, that's not a good thing.

I appreciate this take!
Ordinary can be special too 😊❤
Love that dress. Been looking for something similar.
The shapes on that dress are perfect. I’m obsessed with denim dresses and vintage. This piece is staple!
Such a CUTE but simple outfit

One day the stuff we wear today will be considered “vintage”
I wanna find Vintage clothes so bad I have two that I love sosos much but i struggle so hard to find any 😭

I typed that in to Google to see what I could see and I notice someone selling shorts with that on it from Sears. Probably just an old brand name.
ROSIE THE RIVETER A LA FRANCAISE
Nice job I always say there was only one emperor the rest were just people

Where do you buy your scarves? I have been looking at many donation stores, local and goodwill, and I can never find any like them!
Ok nice
Everyday clothes!

Hi Gabi ❤
I have the same button 😂😂😂😂
Here before 10k view hi gabi it’s Alisha:)
You are very cute 😊
❤❤❤
Will people 50 years from now say the same thing about clothes from out time?
What we wear today, but made to last

I thought Alex was gay?
Gabi, nothing you wear looks mundane.
