we have had our M340d touring for a year now and absolutely love it, your MPG figure isnt salesman's BS either we get mid to high 40s most of the time and if we just tootle along we get above that. It is a car built for so many things, we have dogs and go camping, we go to the shops, we stuff it full of all sorts of things but when we want a bit of fun and we put our foot down the power is there instantly. We drive in the comfort mode all the time and there is still so much torque that we dont feel the need to go into the sports modes. My only gripe is why did BMW get rid of the gear lever? it was so easy to knock the lever across for an instant surge of extra power and also somewhere to rest your hand too. To swap that out for a tiny little switch was IMO a retrograde step
Matt. You are absolutely right... PERFECTION! The only car ( anyone) would ever need. Okay, it is a diesel and we know where that is going. However don't write diesel off ... Just yet! Design, practicality, day to day driving.. Driving like no other. Agree with your comments, not least it could be argued as the best designed current BMW. Well done, Matt for bringing this incredible machine to our attention.
Totally agree and a great review. I've just picked up my second, and sadly my last M340D. It was the last the dealer was to ever see. They are an amazing car! The demonization of diesel especially from Governments is so short sighted and I agree with Owen MacDonald - what is going on with BMW! Before I ordered the M340D I actually tried ordering a new E Class 450D AMG - the 'Agent' or 'Dealer' (if they are still called that?) was not interested in getting a £90K factory order into the country, and I think Audi (other than SUV) are restricted to 2.0 litre. Good good luck to anyone looking for a fast diesel!
I really think I want this car. I've a 320d MSport Touring currently which I've had for 8 years and really really like it - it does everything. .... thinking of changing - had a test drive in a 320i Touring very recently... liked it, lovely car and will no doubt do 'everything' as well ....but it didn't make me smile, which my 320d still does as I love the torque ...it was just a bit dull. I think I want a 330d actually, or a 330i ...but unfortunately they don't make 'em anymore, and the M340D sounds like it fits ... I see you can still get a recent one...
Probably better than the M3 touring in the real world. BMW UK, what are you thinking? No diesel in the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8. I'm sure Audi and Mercedes are happy to pick up the customers that you're letting go.
It’s not going out of production; BMW U.K. have chosen not to offer it for sale. You can still buy one abroad. Lovely cars, a great shame.
big mistake from the presenter :(

Thanks as always Keith!
I love it so much, I bought one and shipped it to NZ (we only ever had the 330D Touring…briefly).

Really love bmw touring cars it's so sexy
Missing the M sport seats which sets it of proper.
Alpina D3 may be better?
That’s not a bad shout.
Way over priced though. I've yet to see one outside the Sytner Sheffield showroom!
I enjoyed watching the Video Review, still one of my favourite Sporty Estate Cars 😊
It’s a brilliant thing! Thank you for your kind words.

Can we see the less sexy the new 2024 X1 SDrive 20i
We will see what we can do.
Having just picked up a brand new M340i estate - I’d say it’s better than the M340d.. Don’t get me wrong M340d is a great car..
