Lovely! I felt like I was watching hands from another era! I think I'm going to go with pounded rivets, as my [chewed] leash is thick and stiff....but thanks for posting! I'll keep this technique in mind.
Aparently it's called a bleed or blood knot. It's simply two, two or three inch cuts length-ways in the lead two or three inch apart. Then you thread the lead through and into itself a few times in the right order, which I can't remember the sequence to unless I'm actually doing it. Not very helpful, I'm sorry.

What is the knot you are using? I want to replace the clip on a leather leash.
