Let me tell you, channels like yours helps a lot of newer techs get through a bad call. 4 years ago I went through the ringer. Was beyond stressed and depressed. I relied on RUclips to educate me. Now I know more than a lot of senior technicians. You're definitely making a difference. God bless.

I’ll add from my experience right now sometimes you can work for a good company but you have a lot to co workers who don’t care to show you anything. If you’re not careful they will box you in and leave you at a pm tech type level. It’s a shame how people forget where they came from. We all started from the bottom somebody gave us all a chance

I have been in the trade for a little over 2 years now. I got hired with zero experience in anything like this. I got very little training before they threw me in my own truck doing service. I have learned a LOT from RUclips channels like yours and feel comfortable and confident going to most service calls now. I appreciate the hell out of you Taddy and everything you do for the HVAC trade.

I been watching a lot of videos myself. Started working for a company just installing dishwashers, refrigerators and gas stoves. That was easy, but we lost the contract. So I got two weeks of training in hvac and sent out on my own. Boss barely answers my calls or any questions I have and most the guys just belittle me instead of train me. It’s been a rough 5months. I haven’t severely damaged anything and have diagnosed several units and repaired them thanks to these videos.

I'm in the field. I can tell you 85% of the techs don't know what they are doing or don't care to know. 10% that know what they are doing don't care or are hacks, then there's the 5% who are knowledgeable and care. Good luck getting that guy. I feel bad for home owners who pay for poor service or worse.

  • @jeffflowers3645

Here's my story. I will say here I am an above average DIY guy from electrical to plumbing to rebuilding a manual transmission. My GF bought a home in sept. She had a home inspection and the HVAC was working fine. But Murphy's law, the first time she needed heat, it would short cycle on/off. The inducer would kick in but not the blower. I crossed the wires to make it run and it just hummed. Ah! Capacitor. Put a new one on, crossed the wires and fired up. Put it all back together and still short cycled. The igniter/flame sensor was not coming on. Bought a new one (have since learned you can sometimes clean them) and it didn't come on either. As I checked the connection, it popped like a light bulb. So I got a new igniter and it would not come on. Checked and there was no power to it. Removed the circuit board and found a black scorch mark behind it. Apparently the first igniter burned it out. Found the "upgraded" replacement model and installed it. It was flashing false flame sensor. Thinking it was defective ordered another one. Same flashing code. Two bad circuit boards?? I went searching for the original part number and found one but when the box arrived it had the upgrade model number on it so I didn't even open it. GGRRRRRRR!!!!! I'm in over my head so I call in an HVAC company. To make the story short, 3 HVAC companies later, none of which charged me because the couldn't figure it out. One was there 3 hours calling tech support and verifying?? the upgraded circuit board should work. They very nicely offered to replace the entire system for $14k! NO THANK YOU!
Out of frustration I opened the third circuit board and the number printed on the board itself was the original part number I needed! plugged it in and the furnace fired up and is working as it should.

Problem with me is I got a dui when I started hvac school and finding a company was HARD. Well, I finally found a job as a hospital maintenance tech/ hvac tech. The problem again I had was I had 0 maintenance experience and 0 hvac experience. The guy that was supposed to help train quite after 2 or 3 months after being there 16 years. The problem again for me is that if we have a major problem I won’t do it we contract that. I’m more for pms and that stuff. I can figure out some problems now and understand a lot more I just feel like I’m lacking in service up until this dui falls off at the end of the year and I can get a real service company to hopefully hire me. I want the be THE guy whether it’s for refrigeration, boilers, chiller or whatever I’m working with.

And to add to this video here , unfortunately there's a mindset that you find in the trades I only been in this one and plumbing but that mindset is that you shouldn't have to have somebody hold your hand even to learn which is flat out wrong. My first apprentice our first job together, I told him to get in the attic, and to pull the line set as I was feeding it through long story short, but I went up in the attic to check on him. He was kneeling/crouch down on the drywall between the studs pulling the lineset .
Luckily he was a light / little guy and by some miracle did not fall through the ceiling .
Always be aware just how green the new guy is . Untrained people don’t know until they know .
    Stay safe

I rely so much on RUclips as the only Tec/Maintenfe on a property of 88 units. All with older r22 heat pump units i sometimes get very overwhelmed. All I can say is being thrown in the fire is undoubtedly the only way I’m going to learn. It is embarrassing and stressful but it’s okay we have to give ourselves grace.

I had a friend that was an electrical contractor. He has a brother that was a new dad and maybe a not so great A/C tech. I don't know the entire story but I assume he didn't check power after pulling a disco. He got zapped pretty bad and was never the same. I also think he left the field.

I was in the biz for 35 years and was Senior tech at a large Lennox company and trained hundreds of apprentices. You are correct in that a good company will send the Senior tech to help a Junior tech or help him over the phone. I could diagnose most problems in 15 mins to 30 mins maximum and most of the time could help them over the phone.

I came home to a high dollar HVAC company guy working on my unit that my wife had hired while I was at work without talking to me about it first. He was on the phone with his boss about it. Then he sees me and says that it’s going to cost $15,000 dollars to fix it and I can finance it through my house mortgage. I walked over and juggled the wires and it sparked an came on. I remade the connection and it worked fine after that. I paid the guy $100 for his time (he said he was there for an hour) and told him to never come back.

I love your comment on what to expect from an employer or contractor who really values you. Like yourself, I got into this trade, because I wanted to help protect people and protect our environment. I also care about performing quality work and prolonging the longevity of equipment. I agree with you, when you said: “It shouldn’t be about the money.” Unfortunately, I had to quit my job working for a contractor as a technician, because he was nothing more than a parts seller and only cared about the money. He would actually get mad at me for trying to help the customer. Every thing he did went against what I believed in, so I quit just as of two days ago. Your video confirmed my beliefs and I want to say thank you. I’m going to find another employer who actually believes in the work that they do and cares about people. Thank you Taddy.
