Thanks for doing this TITLEIST review! Man! These clubs are Looooooong! I played the AP3 when the first came out and really enjoyed them. About a year into it I moved on to a mixed AP2/AP3 set and eventually to an all AP2 set! The reason for the changes: 1) as renewed commitment to getting better + lessons with James 2 My trouble with distance control with the 8i-PW with the AP3 around the greens. The face was just too hot for those delicate little shots for me. 3) James's recommendation to at least try the combo set toi help me with my short game! I've loved my full AP2 set (5i-PW) and wouldn't go back. However, I do sometimes miss the explosiveness of the long irons in the AP3. That' why my 4i is a T-MB. The new T100 & T200 have me thinking about whether a combo set might be in order this time around though. I don't think I could ever go back to a full T200 type of setup but I could see myself with a T200 in a 4i & 5i, to go with the T100 6-PW? Assuming that the the T200 is more or less a refined version of the AP3 (with a forged face) this could prove an interesting option. ** I'd love to know how the 8i-PW feel in this set, especially around the greens!**
If you are going to stop at T 100 "6" then consider T200 "6 & 5", rather than "5 & 4" because of Distance Gap. (T200 "5" would be more like a T100 "4")
Yes I bought them..and the T100 and a T300...T300. 4 iron..T200 5,6,7 and T100s 8,9,pw...I don't like springy scoring clubs...I'm finally in a happy place with my irons
They are going miles for a player like you with a decent swing speed. But many players those irons might be gapped where the 9iron is now going 135, 7 iron is going 160, 5 iron is now going 180. It isn’t as bad when you have players with these slower speeds. Just food for thought
I see that opinion so much on youtube " if your PW goes 140 what do you hit from 120?" seems simple, just hit another wedge? i think what gets lost is drawing the connection to the top end of the bag. if the 5 iron goes 208 then you probably don't need a 4. in that case you open a spot to add an additional wedge. Lexi Thompson plays 5 wedges just fine. it's really just finding the right setup for your game. also the courses you play matters. I swap out my 4 iron and at times hybrid for another wedge and or driving iron depending where i play. I would play 6 wedges if it helped me shoot better scores. Great review James!
Glad you eluded to the gap on the back-end of the set at the end. 43* PW is a little nutty and leaves a large gap into your wedges. Still plan to go test them out versus the new TM p790s and Miuzno JPX 919 forged. Hyped to get a new iron set.
Great review James and your yardigages are impressive but most of us mortals can't hit a 9 iron 150 yards plus - however I have Titleist fitting booked for early September so we shall see - but very happy to see how far they go - I want some feel with distance so T100 or T200 - we shall see???!!
Nice review James, looking for a new set of irons and my pro has just got a stock of Titleist - just the price is a bummer. BTW, I play off 6 and would be delighted to carry 130yds with a 9 iron, never mind 160yds!
carrying a 30 deg loft 185, man you re a beast. I carry my 28.5 deg 180 on my best shots, really average around 170. Must be nice to be able to hit the ball that well. Love the videos.
James, I have a couple of questions for you... Firstly, at what swing speed (slower) do low spin, low loft irons become counter productive? Secondly, when being fitted for irons are you still forced into a 5-pw (or whatever is offered as standard) set or could you go 6-gap wedge or just single irons if you wanted?
Problem with Titleist, is that they do not make a 5 Iron replacement hybrid, so if you aren't hitting the T200 % Iron well, you may be fitted into the "hacker" T300 club that would fill that gap (the T300 % Iron, or maybe even the T300 6 Iron, simply because the distance you get with it slots into the yardage gap you need to fill). I always had the same problem with Mizuno MP series clubs. I liked replacing the long irons with the MP Fli-Hi's (going back to the early-mid 2000's) but they only made the 2, 3 and 4 Iron versions. With their newer offerings you can get replacements going down to the 5, through blended sets using MP MMC's, or I believe actual new version MP Fli-Hi's.
@@joeperez3520 Im not sure about the Ts hybrids but I've seen the h1s right up to 27 or 28 degree lofts. To be honest my questions were more general rather than just titleist. I want to change my irons to graphite shafts and already have a 5 hybrid that covers my 6i gap, I don't really want to be forced to buy 2 clubs that are just going to sit in the cupboard.
@@robertcourt8593 You got me when it comes to the 818's. Didn't know the H1 (and the H2?) go all the way up to 27*, which is a 5 Iron length. I tend to stick with Mizuno and PING, and unfortunately, end up getting the iron set all the way up to 5 Iron, but also (later) purchase the 5 Iron replacement hybrid, and switch back and forth, depending on how my head's been screwed on that particular day.
@@robertcourt8593 Just custom order a set. Any modern club company sells custom sets, either directly or through a pro shop or anywhere you get fit for clubs. Titleist has tons of demo days where you can custom order stuff.
Hey James. There seem to be very little difference year on year in irons......except for the price. Just like an auto the value goes down significantly as soon as they go out the door. Would you consider reviewing older irons, drivers, fairway woods and wedges? I play Ping Eye -2’s from I think 1989.
Great content as always. I am considering the T200 and going 5iron to Wedge which is 48degree. Going to finish out my bag with 3 SM7 wedges. With the T200 going so far would you advise going with a 50degree SM7 rather than the 52 degree to maintain better gapping ( so 50/54/58 rather than 52/56/60 ) to have a more reasonable (10yd) gap between the 48deg T200W and 50deg SM7
Why not try a comparison review with AP3s. I bought a set of those earlier this summer after Titleist said the new T range was not replacing the APs. Clearly that was a marketing "fib' the T200 is the AP3 updated. Very annoyed and won't be trusting Titleist again. However do like the AP3s but prefer the sound of the T200, presume the forged face is giving a softer feel
Same thing as the TS Woods replacing 917 Woods. I imagine Titleist used the "T" designation to get "inline" with the Woods. New MB and CB are "620" for some reason???
Interesting that your spin rates were appreciably lower than Mark Crossfield’s test. Might this variable down to the differing speeds you apply? Highlights the need to try, test and be fit before you buy.
Great content, James! However, you should really focus on the loft and not the number on the bottom of the club. Or at least mention it as it relates to the distance and spin. Every manufacturer is doing the same thing, strengthening the all of the irons to a club or two further. As you pointed out, this presents a HUGE problem at the bottom of the bag. In the new normal, we'll likely need to replace longer clubs with an extra wedge, e.g. set pitch and gap and then roll into your specialty wedges, 50+.
Would like you to a test of the T200 vs. The new TM P790. Would also like to see a mid-handicaper test to see what distance he would come up with.. You being able to get those yardage is one thing but what I and many others would.. could be many yards shorter.. ?? Thank
I tried both of these out yesterday, and found the P790s and the T200s to be really similar. I had a swing speed of around 89-90mph and was getting ball speeds of 115-116 mph with both clubs (testing using 7 irons). Carry distances were very similar, dispersion very similar... I ended up ordering the T200s as I just felt a little more confident standing over the ball with them, they looked that little bit better to me, but both were really good 👌🏻 I play off 19 at the moment

Good review: I will not be buying those clubs. I would not be able to hit a ball as far as you do, but even so, there is too much length on those clubs. There is a lot of discussion below about the use of wedges if your irons are getting these distances and as an inconsistent hitter my problems will not be solved by more distance.
Yikes James.....maybe in the future...me and the wife have Wilson profile sgi...both packages plus tour tech 360 carts and balls and clothes...we spent about the same as those clubs
Yeah they are long - for a good golfer with a solid club-head speed. 95 mph with a 5 iron is a good few mph faster than your average mid-handicapper. I know you're not a BIG hitter James, but an average golfer would probably hit these 20 yards shorter than you. So the shorter end of the bag wouldn't be such an issue. Take 20 yards of each and you'd be hitting a SW from 100 yards - pretty normal.
Very very disappointed in Titleist. Went with them because of their reputation. How wrong I was! Recently bought a set of T200 from them and despite issues with the PW (dent in toe) and fellow golfers reporting poor material quality (very easily damaged) they refused to swap my unused set for AP2 718 (a proven club). This meant me losing money but I didn’t mind as thought AP2 would last me. Great customer service! Won’t be rushing back! Gutted, a lot of money for irons I can’t trust that they will last me
Cheers James, thanks for your response, really appreciated. Yeah I guess I was just unlucky but really frustrating. Golf clubs are worse than cars for losing value too. Trying to swap / trade this set, wow, good grief how much value they lose. Great channel by the way, love the content. All the best.
James I went to my local Club Champion to get fit for the T200s. Left with 0211s. So much softer and performed better. Feel wasn’t even close in my opinion.
James went with the 95 elevates in stiff. Played AP3s the last two years and 0211s are so much softer than AP3 and T200. I’m surprised everyone is saying how soft the T200s are. I didn’t think so. Also tried the 0311P. The 0311P was even softer and performed a little better than 0211s. But I couldn’t justify the price difference. Getting my 0211s this Thursday and will report back how they perform on the course.
Gapping issues should occur at the top of the bag not the bottom. These new cranked lofts, IMHO, are counterproductive. They will cause more problems than they solve. Once golfers understand that distance isn't the answer, then we'll get back to sane clubs. However, I can't see that happening anytime soon since "more distance" makes golfers lose their minds!
It's only a problem because people are moving away from traditional lofts but trying to keep a traditional bag. If you can hit your 6 iron far enough that you can take out your 5 iron and replace it with another wedge is it really an issue? (Obviously you can change the 6/5 in my example for whatever your 2 longest irons are)
@@robertcourt8593 You have a point there. I don't recall where I heard/read it but someone was of the opinion that iron numbers should be removed from the club sole and replaced with loft degrees. Then this issue would be moot. Maybe it's all a case of perspective.
@@glennwiebe5128 I think putting lofts on would help but at the end of the day, everyone hits their clubs different distances. It doesn't matter to me what number or loft I have so long as I know how far it's going to go. If you have 130 to the flag doesn't matter if you're an old codger like me hitting a 7 or a young bomber hitting a gap wedge so long as the ball ends up where you want it.
I am 100% in agreement with you. These irons are no good for me, even though I would not get the distance James does. I need control and forgiveness not more length.
@@duncanabbot8352 Sure they did go long for him in the review, but they were also consistent in distance. Not sure why you think those things have to be mutually exclusive.
Another set of irons James that after you have spent a fortune on them, then you have to spend another small fortune for the wedges!! High street robbery really.
The set has a 48 degree gap wedge. Just call it the pitching wedge in your head and move up from there. Get a 54* and a 60*, no need for extra wedges, and don't bother with 4 iron. Now you have a 7 club set that costs less than full retail.
Got rid of my AP3's ,went for proper clubs with real lofts ,these sort of irons are too inconsistent and hot faced with not much control with bad gapping at the lower end of the bag .Should call this type of club distance improving iron ,not going to help many people in the long run .
The lofts are stupid. PW is 43 degs, you will need 4 wedges. The 4 iron is the same loft as my old 2 iron. I'm sure they will sell millions to people who have an ego over what number is on the bottom of their club when they play a par 3.
It's really not an issue, I have the AP3's and carry 4 wedges. I just didn't order the 3 iron. I could honestly do without the 4 iron as well, my AP3 5-iron carries 210+.
@@xYoungDeezYx The only way I can carry a 5 iron 210 yards is to leave it in the bag and walk it! :O) 210 is my 5 wood. Probably the same loft..... LOL
Hairy Golfer Point being, is that the number on the club matters less with these new “modern” irons. My 5 iron is really a 4-iron with a “#5” on it. But as long as you’re mindful with your gapping, no harm no foul.
@@aedvark, this "loft thingie" has been going on since Karsten Solheim (Ping) built a 6 Iron and wrote "7" on the sole. They were even a 1/2 inch longer! Check "Standard Length" of a 7 Iron 40 years ago, against Today's "Standard Length". Even Drivers are up 2 Inches from 43 then.

Long isn't everything. Would have liked to see the decent angle.
That's my 9 iron loft
A "filthy" 9 iron :-)
T200 7 iron is 29 degree loft wtf!
First comment like it up ladies and gentlemen

Want new irons l, but don't want to leave myself skint 😂
What's the difference between t200 and the apones
My broke ass couldn’t play them
Haha me too. I went cheap and bought the factory direct Hogan ft worths.
So they are not for anyone with speed then, combo set, or you will need to hit a 50 degree wedge 130 yards, shiney though...!

Tested the T100 and T200; highly disappointing. Compared to the butter feel of mizuno 919 forged and tour, srixon785s, and taylormade P760 they are just not in the same conversation.
Aren't the Irons you like more comparable to Titleist CB & MB?
Apples to Oranges ???
@@apaulmcdonough2170 No surprisingly they are in the same family type in terms of feel range. I tried the titleist cb and they were better feeling than the 100 or 200.
@@davidsambursky2780, 2 years ago I replaced Titleist DCI 990B Irons (circa 2002) with 718 AP2.
(Closest replacement was the 718 CB)
I like the Feel of the AP2, for Full Shots, Controlled Shots, and also Around the Greens. I'm not a "one club chipper". 😉
I’ll tell you who anybody who doesn’t have a big bank account $$$$.00
Bloody horrible looking clubs.
