Its good to learn all methods. Capo has many applications. Barre chords are great to learn and so are power chords and scales. Your teacher is trying to make sure you learn all methods which is commendable but don't leave the capo out. Many great songs were written because of it. Also there are many applications for its use. Don't forget to explore and have fun with what you are learning. ❤️

I am so happy that I found your channel! I'm a beginner and take lessons but also watch soooo many guitar videos to learn as much as I can. I'm 47 yrs old and was an athlete growing up and into my adult life. I always thought that if you didn't start as a kid then it was too late and that's definitely not true but it took me to 45 yrs old to realize that. Anyway, I luv the way you teach. You don't go too fast and I luv how you explain everything , which a lot of channels do and they claim it's for beginners lol. You have a new subscriber and I can't wait to watch and learn more from the knowledge you have.

so glad that you are listening in. It’s never too late to learn guitar. The journeyis fun and rewarding. As an athlete you understand the importance of persistence and repetition. But make sure you have fun along the way. If you have already learned some basic chords start learning some songs. There is an app called “Tabs and Chord.” It provides the chords for hundreds of songs (at every level) Hope this helps! Thanks for listening in!😀

Yay, this is the video I requested! Practical info gives us a way to make sense of it all - a starting point, if you will. The theory stuff can come later. I can’t wait to try this out for myself when I pull the guitar out shortly, but it really makes sense even before I take the guitar out so long as one can remember the rule of thumb that you provided. I might even try to make a little chart. Your practical approach reminds me a bit of statistical logic, lol. It’s like a fill in the blank formula of sorts that I came up with to explain how to write a hypothesis correctly every single time while I was tutoring college students in sociology - my former professors couldn’t understand what I was doing to get some of these struggling students to understand, so when I showed them my very practical method, they “borrowed” it for their own classrooms. 😂
I hope we can review more capo stuff at some point. This lesson was extremely helpful. We should all know how to use a capo confidently rather than having to rely on tablature to tell us where to clamp it or having to guess.
Capos are underrated. Some people feel like using them is cheating and being lazy about retuning the guitar somehow - usually electric players feel that way. I don’t see it as cheating. It’s just another tool. Actually, it takes less time to retune a guitar, which leads to playing faster. Some people also don’t know how to use a capo without throwing the guitar out of tune. That’s why I love the D’addario NS Pro that can be dialed in and is low profile. Whether it’s acoustic or electric, I’m never out of pitch. You get a feel of how much to tighten the capo’s tension depending on the neck and string gauge. Lighter gauges on electric necks would require less tension than acoustics, of course.
Thanks again for helping me out and getting me started with getting a handle on how to make use of a capo in a realistic playing situation where a key change is needed. I never see anyone explain how to use them, so I really appreciate it!

Thank you for sharing. I play for Wed night Bible study at our church, along with a couple of more experienced guys.I use the capo quite a bit because I don't know a lot of chords yet, but this will help me navigate the frets. ❤

Great. Just remember it only works for keys G and C. But with those 2 keys and a capo you can play many songs 😀. Have fun❤️
