I literally watch all of Alex‘s videos just to hear his sign off signature when he’s at the end of the video!!
You didn't specifically mention the CPU bottleneck, I believe.
I have a NUCXI7 from Minisforum, with a rtx 3070 laptop gpu and a 4 year old I7 laptop intel CPU.
I did some testing and, at 4K ultra settings + DLAA, I get 73 fps at the start of the game, when looking at the train station. Using DLSS or lowering the resolution as far down as 720p has no effect on the fps. It stays the same...
Only lowering the other graphical settings has an effect, which is a shame.
I feel like my PC should be able to play this at 4K max settings 120 fps.
I think the game is not utilising the CPU's cores properly. I hope a patch will solve this. I can absolutely play the game like this (70 fps min), but wouldn't mind the extra smoothness.
My 5800x/3080 really didn't run as well as I would have thought either. I only played on max for a short while tho
Thanks Digital Foundry. Been waiting for this video
Alex noticed something about the colors. The problem is bigger than it seems. The game on PC is using downgraded color spectrum where color black is absent! This is especially noticeable when compared to the XBOX 360 version which look much, much better (especially in BC on the Series X)
It's quite ironic that technically this is a bad port, but we've advanced so far in computing that it's not really an issue.
Almost 15 years
Almost no upgrades
A 50 euro price tag
Yikes
Lets wait till the modders fix this and there is a good sale
i just pirated this. installing at the moment. i pirated rdr2 aswell. had to buy it anyway because my older pc was turning off by itself, which turned out to be a psu problem as my psu was too old and dying. didnt even have to buy rdr2. oh well, pirated rdr1. im never buying another r* title again.
Ryzen 5600g (igpu) fine on low settings, not tweaked any higher yet. Enjoying the game for the first time :)
Thank you Alex! Story wise how do you rate this game?

@@Shiebeydh03873JSHUAUbb So it seems, much like the game's story, we can rate your age on a scale of 1-10
Story is genuinely enjoyable and well done
If you played RDR2 You will probably notice some inconsistencies with characters and how they react to each other. I once tried playing this right after rdr2 and i could not continue, but now when im not so fresh there probably would be no problem.
I greatly appreciated your coverage of retro hardware on this port. There's a unique opportunity to compare this port to RDR2 on PC, given the original map is represented in RDR2.
It ran day 1 on android with emulator, so pretty good.
Which emu? Is there a PC emu as well?

hey DF glad yall reviewed this port because RDR1 rocks!!
thx.
Sad that in 2024 no stutter is rare.
*on modern hardware
I remember this game being a coded nightmare for X360 and PS3 back in the day. That was used as the excuse to never port it to PC.
Well... it's here.
Which means there's literally no reason why we shouldn't see Bloodborne on PC. Come on FromSoftware!
So I’m assuming more in depth PS5 Pro videos are coming? I’m actually a bit underwhelmed with the video yesterday. Felt, rushed. Like does Alan Wake 2 on PS5 Pro in performance mode actually look as good as Base PS5 Quality? What about Warhammer 40K SM2? Any improvement? Also, does Black Myth Wukong in performance now run better with frame gen because the framerate is higher? Is the input lag now fixed because of it? We got way too much of Elden Ring and some weird choices IMO.
Patience!
They're going to have a whole lot of games to do in-depth testing on. Give them some time.
THANK YOU for getting right into the DRM right at the beginning
This games runs AMAZING on my rog Ally. 900p constantly 60+ fps. I can even do 1080p and still stay above 60fps especially with fsr quality
As someone who's never played it but completed RDR2. I bought it to play on the ROG Ally X. Plays and looks great on that.
01:05 Mandatory proprietary launcher? no thanks. Next.
game is already cracked
@@НатальяПолитова-у9м That's a good news.
That's more the norm on PC gaming honestly.
Nice one for the Bluesky outro.
One of my favourite games of all time in my platform of choice but I'm not giving Rockstar my money after all their greediness and mistreatment of the community on PC.
An app can declare it's accessibility options to block Sticky Keys pop-up. Windows has such a feature and Unreal games use it by default.
How is it understandable that theres still LOD in Towns and shadows, its a 14 year old game for 50 bucks,....i repeat, FOR 50 BUCKS!
For the price it's not, but just for it a port of a 2010 game it's completely fine.
@@TheCynicalAutist I know the typical answer "older engine, deeper programming, its not that simple blabla". Thats true, but it simply takes a little more time and effort, its just not the right way to defend companies that act like this, they sell it for 50 Bucks and know very well it WILL sell, its rdr1 for fu.. sake! Stop defending such things, thats one of greatest mistakes in our time in the videogamesector. There are even slowdowns in towns and modders fixed it 24 hours after release by give the cpu more priority...
@@Al3x-c4s I'm not defending the price point, but as a purist I prefer this to the shitty remasters we keep getting. It's the original game on PC. I'll get it if it's on a very good discount. A bit of pop up which happens in basically every open world game is not the crying shame you're making it out to be.
@@TheCynicalAutist Iam not attacking, i understand you, iam a purist too, but the one thing i hoped they would make sure was to remove all pop ups,....but no, its not that its a dealbreaker, but i cant stand these defendings from people all over the place, like the console wars, people fighting and the companies laughing cause its perfect marketing,.... and with the next remaster they wont do it either, cause, you know, "its understandable"
11:30 why is there a npc in horseback...under the floor, only his chest and above is sticking out lol
Alex, why did you not mention CPU bottleneck issues? This game has a very poor CPU utilization & hitting higher FPS (240+) isn't always possible in the most extreme possible rig!!!
240 FPS will never be possible as the engine is limited to 144.
@@WeencieRants there is a simple mod to crank up the fps at the max limit of 1000. and it works without any flaws. just google for it.
@@WeencieRantsIt's not, not only you can go over 144fps with mods, but if your monitor is, let's say 240Hz and you enable Vsync, you'll get 240fps max.
The most distracting thing for me on PC is the animation skipping, not sure if it's because the game was never really intended to run over 100fps but the horse animations seem to skip while riding around
game is already cracked, fellow pirates.
Would've loved to see some testing with DXVK here, especially since it's a singleplayer game! Very curious to see the impact it would have on lower end cards and CPUs in particular.
The longevity and preservation of this game is already completely secured Alex, don't worry!
SDR in a HDR container in 2024, and knowing Rockstar, by design.
Cool.
At 5:42, why is the PC version missing an entire line of fence, a bunch of bushes, and shadows? You sure the PC version is running at Ultra here? Or is the side by side messed up? The PS5 on the left has sharper shadows too with better antistropic filtering.
Sharp shadows are a graphical option.
I read somewhere that some objects have better lod on ps5 then PC
It’s not a remaster, it’s a straight port with DLSS stuffed in
L-shift is the sprint key in all games since forever.
Yes, but in this Game you have to rapidly Tap it
@@DigitalFoundry you can change that in the settings to hold key to sprint on vehicle so that u don't have to tap the shift key or any other assigned sprint key.
Alex Battaglia, instantly like the video. 👍

First thing to do ever with a fresh windows install is to disable sticky keys. I always do this. resolves that issue with this and many other games.
Nope. I don't like unnecessary launchers.
At 2:59 you mention that you found it easier landing shots with a mouse than you would with a controller, but aiming with the controller in RDR is way easier than it looked for you to be using a mouse.
With horse acceleration, you just tap the button a few times to go faster and hold it when you reach the speed you want, unless that's different with mouse + keyboard.
You mean scales beyond the PS4 version as there isn’t a native ps5 one
Scales beyond what a PS5 can, ensuring some amount of "future proofing" for preservation
just finished a two hour session of alien isolation from 2014 on the steam deck @1152x720 upscaled with FSR and its absolutely gorgeous, easily passes for at least 1440p resolution... and then I turned on this video... feels like a multi billion dollar company just poured raw sewage in my eyes.
its good to see rockstar hasn't forgotten where it came from... the era of 32 bit graphics
At 16:37 - Isn't that difference because of the sun being blocked by the clouds? - They are in different positions in the 2 images, probably due to the moment the mission was started by the player.
They had plenty of time to patch it and iron out the quirks 😂
