- Even today, people are still arguing about the legacy of Alexander Sergeevich Yakovlev. Some praise him as an engineering genius, while others say that he was more of a ruthless ladder climber. Despite all that, one thing remains clear: there aren’t that many aircraft engineers that started their career with plywood biplanes… and retired with a legacy of jet fighters and jet airliners. Not many indeed.

The fact that the Yak-3 is currently being reproduced today as an air-racing aircraft speaks volumes to me about its design, and easily puts it as my favorite Yakovlev aircraft
As a french i love the Yak-3 from the Normandi-Niémen squadron. What about a video about them in the futur ? ;)

The Yak-9K is by far my favorite, one shot is all you need from a 45mm cannon to force the enemy to "land"

I remember getting 9 kills in the Yak-9k, way back 2014 when people always turn fight no matter what.
In the game maybe but the reality was that gun was pretty useless. The recoil would shake the plane so violently it often caused engine damage and oil leaks. Parts of the plane would literally just fall off. Not sure why they thought an unreliable 45mm autocannon was a good idea with the 37mm version was already suffering similar issues.

It’s not in War Thunder, but the Yak-52 for me. It’s an agile, lightweight and brilliantly performing 2 seat trainer. Makes for a good airshow display team aircraft too

fun fact, the soviet union tried to put gun pods and S-8 rocket pods on the Yak-52, they scrapped that plan

The Yak2-KAbb is such a great plane for people at low BR, it annihilates planes with its guns! I love every yak personally!

Yak-9B is terribly underrated because it's literally just a fighter bomber without the bomber disadvantages.

@@tao6188 Unlike most Yak aircrafts, Yak-9 is suitable to use Boom and Zoom tactics because the faster the aircraft, the better accuracy you have and the ability to one shot. Only fire a burst of 3 due to the recoil of the gun. Try to bleed the energy of the enemy using your 12.7 mm gun and manoeuvrability. Once enemy loses energy, you can finish him.

Not a very popular opinion but I personally love the yak-15p with its great manuverability and low br meaning you will be going up against late prop planes most of the time and it holds a special place in my heart being my very first jet ever.
The Yak family of fighters is honestly my favourite in the Russian tech tree, they are jacks of all trades for the most part.
The Yaks are always my number 1 target because of their armerment and speed, so i usually target them.

The Yak-9B was my favorite out of all variants, it included a decent armament of bombs and guns, but also maneuverability in the battlefield

Was thinking about asking for a review on Yak aircraft about a day ago, but now finally it's here.
i love the yak 9u/p/Ut family and i really enjoy to fly with them at low alt , fast with massive guns and nice turn rates !
I love the yak 3u. It can run full WEP radiators closed forever. Idk if it's intended or not, but hey what do I care, it's a sleek beautiful aircraft!

what's your main tactics when using Yak-9P?
@@m_zbrv3967 treat it like a heavier Yak-9U, use tracers for the 20mms and climb even if your engine is tuned for low alt, other than that i would recommend referring to people like jengar and defyn with their videos about the Yak-9U, I’m not that good at explaining. Hope it helps

@@m_zbrv3967 Yak-9P is more oriented for boom and zoom due to its heavier weight which lowers its maneuverability at lower speeds, but helps it to maneuver more, lock up less, and retain more energy at higher speeds. It’s a pretty good plane, but it can be tricky to use since it’s like a worse P-51D-30 in the bnz role, and not too much better at maneuvering. The cannons are great though.
@@kommandantkillcode bro, this aircraft is nice to use in 5900 height.. still can beat many aircraft up there but just lack maneuver on low skies.. I only play AB btw because I'm not so good in aiming.

Personally, the Yak-3 is my favourite of the lineage; both in Realistic and Simulator battles. A sort of back-to-basics approach: Powerful cannons, light airframe, easy-to-control.
If I were to choose a yak It'd have to be the Yak 3P. I love the red camo and the increased burst mass that comes with the two additional Shvak cannons. The previous standard Yak 3 only had a shortcoming when it came to firepower and the Yak 3P fixed exactly that. Another Yak I've had my eye on is the Yak-3U. Being a very big fan of the Lavochkin line of planes, a yak with an M82 engine from the La-7 sound like a recipe for pure fun. It's a shame they couldn't get the M71 engine from the I-185 into the Yak-3U but we can't all be winners.

Ive been maining the yak props lately and i have a few tips to help with the gameplay for anyone who wants to know.
With yaks you want to stay just under 400mph/645kmh to stay away from ripping. And to keep your plane from over heating stay in-between 96-97% throttle once it starts overheating. Lastly dont spray at people with the lack of ammo. other then that these planes are monsters.
Quick overview -
* stay below 400mph/645kmh
* fly using 96-97% throttle when hot
*don't spray shots
this is like basic knowledge lmao

For its BR the Yak 1 is my favourite, so much power, easy to maintain or regain energy and that cannon is deadly at any range.
My favorite is definitely the Yak-3p, such a beautiful plane with monster capabilities.
My favorite russian military aircraft is a smoking crater in the ground.
My Yak-3P claimed many panther kills, at one point it rivaled the air kills. The Yak-15P is doing nearly the same at 6.3 but with a lot less ground kills.

@@Niccolo27 Panthers top armor is around 17mm or so, with armored belt you can reck them even with few well aimed shots, the armored belt also work kind of stealth belt if you get used to the guns.

Yak 41 (or Yak 141 as us in the West know it as), it's just a wonderful design, one that I hope we see someday in war thunder

Well I finally learned something about yakovlev in history and my favourite fighter plane is yak 1 and yak 9 both have good accuracy and decent speed but lacking turn
i like the yak-23 because its agile for its br and i love the cannons the early yak jets helped me improve my aim and be conservative with my ammo

I heard that Alexander Sergeievich started off as a jenator in Tupolev design bureau, before he became and apprenticne and evantually a licenced Aeronautic engineer he learned his Aeronautic engineerings soley form his lunch break chats with the aeronautic engineers there!
Yak-3U, overall the Best Fighter for Soviet Aviation Rank 4, you will struggle to use Yak-9's and La-5, La-7, and La-9, but with Yak-3U and other Yak-3 you can literally just sit and enjoy this plane

I like the Yak-9K, it is one of the few planes that I can actually get kills with before getting shot down.

Lumping all the WW2 Yak fighters into one category is totally fair, because the Bf 109 went through near total redesigns (like transition from E to F series) while keeping its designation.

I adore the 9K fridge launcher. It's good for everything, planes? Confetti. Coastal fleets? Aim good and they're gone. Blue water? Aim even gooder and they're gone. It's a god send of a multirole, though 29 for a minute reload isn't too great..

Compare to the La and the MiG propellers, Yak aircrafts are certainly much more enjoyable. I recommend anyone who want to try USSR line to play Yak first, because it is a good start before playing La and MiG, which I have to say, are pretty much the hardest fighter lines to play in War Thunder.
I find the MiG props to be he hardest, but Las are pretty good as low altitude monsters that can still contend at 4.5km alt, rate really well in turns, and out-energy fight anything at 3km and below. Btw, don’t use flaps while in a rate fight. If you’re trying to turn in towards a target that’s not also doing a continuous horizontal turn (would look like a single circle), then you can use the flaps just to pull in a bit quicker to use guns, but you’ll bleed speed and your turn rate will decrease if you use the flaps to do a circle turn in a dogfight. Flaps improve a plane’s AoA (their pull) but decrease their turn rate (how quickly they can complete a horizontal circle). Flaps are best used for vertical loops and for getting your nose on a target for a quick shot. Flaps for jets as well as airbrakes work the same way, but airbrakes will help to get to the optimal speed for turning, and then can be closed to keep the good turn rate.
@@kommandantkillcode I said hard here to beginners mainly because the La-5 and La-7 don't really have good armaments. The ShVAK is not a really good cannon after all. Yak has better manoeuvrability to compensate.
@@Minh-Tran-04 The Las can contend with the Yaks in terms of maneuverability. They’re better at most maneuvers and at most speeds due to having better flaps and better energy retention. The Yaks are more all-round aircraft that aren’t as hampered when they go above 4.5km in altitude. Also, the ShVAKs and B20s had their HE shells buffed, and their damage is much more reliable. I use Default belts because I find the FI-T to be more reliable than the other HE shells, and the AP is good for pilot sniping, setting fires, and destroying engines. I had a match where I kept one tapping people in my La-7, and I was just trying to get a kill assist in that match. I ended up getting 4 kills and one assist. The Las are faster than the Yaks, and the La-7s and La-9s stiffen less than Yaks at high speed and can go faster before starting to lock up. The only issues for the Las is their armament (which gets fixed on the La-7B-20 and better) and their mid altitude performance being much worse than most Yaks. They can go fast at those altitudes, but their energy retention, acceleration, and maneuverability all take a hit. I like going up to those altitudes so I can bait people down once a dogfight commences and then obliterate them.

I’m waiting for the Yak 141, the fact that it came out years before the f35 is an achievement which is hardly ever acknowledged enough.
I would also love to have the Freestyle in the game just for the fun stuff you would be able to do with it
