Hi Mel another great vlog. When it comes time to connect the fuel lines up to your tank make an inspection hatch above the fuel pump/level sender that way you wont have to drop the fuel tank. I did this for my sprinter and it made life so much easier to be able to change the pump and connect up my diesel heater directly to the tank. Stay safe mate.
Those heaters are brilliant bits of kit. Only two things that I have noticed is to run them on full for half hour every now and then to keep them clean inside. The over thing is the LEDs become dull in the control panel. I fitted a power switch to mine so that I can keep it turned off when not in use. I also fitted a GSM Relay to mine so that I can turn it on and off by text message which is great on a cold day when you are out walking, nice and warm when you get back to the van.
I'm glad you're having fun Mel, I'm currently turning the fusebox upside-down for my split screen camper, it come soldered together wrong. It was supposed to be a simple fusebox swap! 8 fuses - should be simple right? XD Well as you well know these things are sent to try us, great content bud!
Good night becky and Mel becky can you say hi to me I love you and your building your new campervan I love watching your videos of you and your building your new campervan please keep up the good work up on your videos on your you tube channel
The air inlet under the van is for the combustion chamber only, it doesn’t go into the van. The air in the van is drawn over the heat exchanger from the back of the unit so the two never mix, perfectly safe. I would definitely insulate between the outlet pipe and the water tank though!
@@johnrimmer1228 Yes John we know that. But you still shouldn't put the inlet within 200mm of the exhaust if you follow a manual (like the eberspacher one). 🤣
Hi Mel, just looking at the installation of your diesel heater, have you thought about the exhaust fumes they may be sucked into your intake as the exhaust is just below your air intake
Hi Mel, great video, I have installed the same heater, thing is it is getting very hot where the ducting exits the heater, I do have a right hand elbow directly attached to the heater, maybe i need to remove it and try to have the ducting going out at less of an angle, any thoughts??
The combustion intake should be way off some other direction. When the unit starts and is smoky, that smoky air will become part of the intake combustion air ........ making it too rich... I point my intake air filter up and as far away as possible from the exhaust
If you look at the video he's angled the exhaust slightly so the plume is outside the bodywork & the inlet is inside. I feel the inlet should be open at the bottom so when it does get sprayed there's a maximum chance for the water to drain out again.
Thank you Mel iv bought exact same heater 2 kw, but will be trying to fit it under the van. I have a transit like Becky but short wheel base hopefully it will fit under the floor near the sliding door , as I have limited space .does Becky have a diesel heater fitted ? Thank you well done and good luck 👍👍👍🏴🏴🇨🇦🦢
Heya, yes I have a diesel heater fitted but we fitted it under my passenger seat and ducted out through the van. You can watch it all over on my channel ;) x
Hi Mel, just a small note, I fit an air filter (usually a ramair induction cone filter, washed) on the cabin air intake for these, you would be shocked at the amount of dust, fluff, and stuff that it collects, in fact I have started to cover the cone filter with another paper bag hepa type filter from dust collector vacuum as I am fed up blowing the cone out with air so often ! but I can highly recommend using one if sensitised to dust etc. Just wondering if anyone else does this ? I was really surprised at the amount of debris collected on filter.
Seriously though, I like the idea. I would be tempted to use the same filter as the engine so there's a spare. They're a flat rectangle so they're easy to mount & I would put it on the underside of a lid so it's accessible & so gravity does some of the cleaning.
Becks if you don't want to poke you eye out try ppe safety glasses you only get one set of eyes need to keep them and you safe and Mell why did you not check under van before you did the drilling and cutting lady luck was on you side today ?😅
Another heaterr installation you know people always comment the heater experts , just wondered would it not heat up your water tank with the pipe where it is ?
2cm² -ish to absorb heat, 7,000cm² -sh across the rest of the tank to lose it again, I wouldn't worry about it though it wouldn't be a design choice I would make deliberately (except maybe in really cold climates).
When the water is filled it will be cold and with a hot pipe against it surely it will cause the tank to sweat in that area which would run down the tank causing water to sit under the tank and cause problems in the future.
Hey Mel, how much Kilowatts does your heater is able to do? Isnt it a little small for such a big Van? Why dont you use a Truma Combi which is also making warm water (I know it is way more expensive) but a proper heater is nothing to safe money on I think.
Yeah we both do RUclips full time and help others at the workshop off camera. It’ll take as long as it takes when you’re self employed and juggle multiple full time demands.
LiFePO₄ are less inclined to that than older chemistries, I've not heard of anyone that's actually got one worrying about it, especially with good quality controllers.
The safest chemistry is Nickel-Iron (NiFe), the plates are non-combustible metals & the electrolyte is pretty inert potash. They weigh about the same as lead-acid & take the same space though you can discharge them very deeply so smaller ones are useful.
Hi i still have the sprinter its very much my home i'm actually sitting up in bed righting this. It's due in the workshop this week for a service video coming soon.
Nice work but the heater will be taking in exhaust fumes , and not pure oxygen, may shorten life span of heater , with a higher build up of carbon , I’ve got mine polar opposite to stop this
Hi Mel, when you get your Bobil system set up you won’t need the Maxspeedingrods controller as the Bobil controls the heater. Also word to the wise, run way more heating ducts than you think, especially across back doors and into the can area, try to get some vent outlets that you can manually shut off that was you’ll have more control 👍

My Chinese heater just crapped itself,
I have just installed an Autoterm heater,,so far I am happy with it.🙏
Nice one bro I’m actually thinking of maybe getting one later down the line when my bank account has recovered lol 👍🤓👍🍻

Thanks for the info!
You should move that air intake so it points away from the exhaust mate 👍
Thanks for the tip
That air intake is a little to close to the exhaust I'd put a carbon monoxide detection device to check
Yeah 👍
I don’t think this is Mel’s first rodeo fella 😉🤣
Great video, I never cutter mine I just bent them up 😊 luxury home very soon 😊💙
Thank you! 😊
I've fitted many many diesel heaters, and find that Mikalor SS clamps (25mm - 27mm) are superior even to the Webasto clamps, and less expensive.
Thank you 🙏
Waiting to see you find that gold hammered❤
I can’t wait to get out the barn and in the field’s swinging a coil 👍🍻👍

And a proper muffler too, seen some shocking straight through of just bent tube with no baffles
One other tip. Plastic cable ties can break. Get hold of some metal cable ties and the gun that goes with it.
Thank you I learn so much from comments really appreciate your help and support 👍🤓👍
Perfect

Hi, Did you get all water heating options connected and working?
Hi Mel, is the exhaust and the air intake mounted under the van too close? Min. 200mm!
I’m actually thinking of extending it to the back of the van 👍
Now there is a pro tip ha ha
The air inlet under the van is for the combustion chamber only, it doesn’t go into the van. The air in the van is drawn over the heat exchanger from the back of the unit so the two never mix, perfectly safe. I would definitely insulate between the outlet pipe and the water tank though!

It’s ok as they will just go back round 🤣👍
Be interesting to see if you can get the app to work, mine hasnt worked in months. Bit disappointing as the app is why i went with this heater.
I’ve not got round to it yet but if it doesn’t I’ll let you know but making a video about it 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld thanks Mel, would be much appreciated 👍
Warm cozy toezies
There is actually a protective film on the screen, bloody hard to get off as it is tucked behind the plastic.
Oh thank you for taking the time to write i really appreciate that 👍🤓👍🍻

Thank you will do 👍👍👍
Apparently there are extra considerations when mounting them outside, you can tip them on one side but not the other is one I noticed...
I'm sure dust tastes better when it's been toasted a bit! 😂
Seriously though, I like the idea.
I would be tempted to use the same filter as the engine so there's a spare. They're a flat rectangle so they're easy to mount & I would put it on the underside of a lid so it's accessible & so gravity does some of the cleaning.
Beauty of cone induction filter is you can get in diameter to slip over end of heater or ducting, no mods required 🙂
I’m liking the idea of this subject I’ve seen how much dust collects in my cupboard where my heater is in my sprinter thank you 🙏
Becks if you don't want to poke you eye out try ppe safety glasses you only get one set of eyes need to keep them and you safe and Mell why did you not check under van before you did the drilling and cutting lady luck was on you side today ?😅
Another heaterr installation you know people always comment the heater experts , just wondered would it not heat up your water tank with the pipe where it is ?
probably ... across a 2cm² area vs maybe 7,000cm² for the rest of the tank to lose heat to the room.
Yeah that’s what I’m hoping for as it will stop my tank from freezing in the cold depths of winter 👍🤓👍
Won’t that cause heat transfer to your fresh water tank causing legenairs desires Mel keep up the good work
I would be worried about the hot diesel heater pipe warming the cold water in the tank and causing condensation in that area.
Interesting 🤔
Risk of legionnaire bacteria in the water tank with the warm pipe
2cm² -ish to absorb heat, 7,000cm² -sh across the rest of the tank to lose it again, I wouldn't worry about it though it wouldn't be a design choice I would make deliberately (except maybe in really cold climates).
@@nigelphillips9426that's definitely something to monitor.

it 5 Kw and trust me plenty of power plus ill be installing a wood burner too
This project seems to be taking ages. Are you on it part time working another job alongside this?
Yeah we both do RUclips full time and help others at the workshop off camera.
It’ll take as long as it takes when you’re self employed and juggle multiple full time demands.
That’s a great answer I was just going to say yes we both work and Becky has two jobs 👍🥰
@@BigVanSmallWorld Three if you count looking after ageing parents with physical and mental disabilities 😇 too!
@@BigVanSmallWorld Thanks for the reply. I'm just worried that subs like myself will lose interest with the slow pace.
Are you concerned about thermal runaway with your batteries?
LiFePO₄ are less inclined to that than older chemistries, I've not heard of anyone that's actually got one worrying about it, especially with good quality controllers.
The safest chemistry is Nickel-Iron (NiFe), the plates are non-combustible metals & the electrolyte is pretty inert potash. They weigh about the same as lead-acid & take the same space though you can discharge them very deeply so smaller ones are useful.
I’m not worried at all
Hey Mel, havent been watching .... catching up ....what happen to your Sprinter? Is this your new one or do you still have the Sprinter?
Hi i still have the sprinter its very much my home i'm actually sitting up in bed righting this. It's due in the workshop this week for a service video coming soon.
@@BigVanSmallWorld good to know .... memories ... of how your van channel developed . 🙂 to refresh your memory, am Leo from Canada btw 😆
That is what you said on the build 😂
Nice work but the heater will be taking in exhaust fumes , and not pure oxygen, may shorten life span of heater , with a higher build up of carbon , I’ve got mine polar opposite to stop this
Ok, thanks
I'd alway buy an upgraded exhaust them cheap ones fall apart pretty quickly.
I understand MaxSpeedingRods already has it.
Yes they do have a better exhaust pipe than the others just not the clamps 👍
If you are wanting luxury why don't you adapt some range rover seats? More comfortable than any van seat
Give me chance to finish before you make comments like that FFS 🤦♂️

That battery is very large. I built my own 200 ah lifepo4 and it's about half the size.
Yeah it is a lot bigger than I expected but if it works I’m happy with that 👍
Too many adverts Mel, I'm out of here 👋
Oh crap really! I’ll have to have a look and see if I can remove some of them thank for letting me know
