Just bought a used one of these for 35 euros, can't go wrong at that price, and I'm excited to try it out (in the post atm). Fantastic review, really well done and informative :)
Good job finding them for 35 Euro! Both are fun to use. I personally love manual focus, it gives me the satisfaction to create my image. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. If you have a chance to share your pictures please do.
I m using the 7artisans on my videos on my channel..y can see it's really nice...I don't want too much sharpness in my movies...that soft touch makes the visuals so much sweeter I feel...nice vid btw thx y
Thanks so much for this review, very well done. The lab test reveals how poor the corner performance of the 7Artisans really is... Low contrast may be fixed in post but unwanted blurring is just dead space.
Thank you, Paul. Much appreciated. I will have a few more new lenses shortly, like the Meike 85mm f1.8, the Viltrox 50mm f1.8, the Samyang 35mm f1.4....
Thank you. Lots of "Reviews" about these lenses, but they are all about the "feeling" you have with a manual lens. No one bothered to do test photos to show the image quality.
A great review. I have the Pergear 25/1.8 and my experience aligns with what you have reported. It performs well on my Fujifilm X-T20 and I have been very happy with my choice.
Thank you for this great review. I am amazed at how well these lenses both perform under 'normal' shooting conditions. I have the Pergear and I am quite happy with it, but after seeing your review, I think I would prefer the better contrast of the 7Artisans - tough choice I think.
A nice comparison. I have the 25 F1.8 Pergear and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was for the cost. I think if you are budget conscious and need a good lens to get you started either one would be a fine choice although I prefer the Pergear.
i don´t know why i prefer the look of the artisans even when the pergear seems to have a bit more technical qualities. some kind of vibe? i don´t really know
Thank you for this very helpful video. Nicely done. Even though I can see the differences in your side-by-side comparisons, both look good to me. LOL I would feel good about owning either of these.
You are right, both look good. If you like you can buy my 7Artisans, I used it only once for this review, it's practically new: www.paradisebizz.com/reviewed-items-for-sale
I have the Pergear 35 mm F1.2 and I just love the low contrast it generates, in fact looks like my XF 33mm F1.4 with black pro mist filter. And I just came to this video to check if the Pergear 25 mm F1.8 would be well paired with the Pergear 35 mm in terms of image consistency.
Hi Daniel, I'll keep that in mind. For now I have o safe up a bit. As you know I don't make money here, I'm not sponsored and I don't have enough views to monetize my channel. I just spent too much buying the Sony a7r4, the Sony 35mm f/1.4 and the Tamron 28-200mm (review is coming tomorrow)
Pergear colors are really nice, reminds me of Kodak 35mm film, sharper and better barrel distortion, nicer bokeh, I ordered one! So bad it lacks a little bit more contrast :(
thing is pergear is giving very good cinematic look in comparison too 7 Artisans but i think we can do color grade with 7 artisans videos then it will be good because if we do color grade with pregear videos then limitations were there
In the end it boils down to personal preference. There is no right or wrong when it comes to personal taste and artistic style. Most important: enjoy creating beautiful images
2:58 and f/8, 7 Artisans has a much sharper image. But does anyone shoot at f8? At 3:31 the focus on the Pergear seems AWFUL- but didn't you say at f/1.8 the Pergear was a bit sharper? So was this a Focus issue or a sharpness issue? I hope you are taking multiple shots and picking the sharpest for each lens. You say the Pergear is sharper but I wonder if you have motion or focus issues. At 5:22 the 7Artisans is FAR sharper. The Bike seat pic was the opposite, with Pergear seeming sharper. I also think the car headlight showed 7Artisans as sharper. But 5:22 7 Artisans was again far clearer- which makes me think there were motion issues with the flower shots- even a small breeze makes the flowers move. They are not good for such tests. 6:08 hard to make a fair comparison because the image on the left was cloudier while the one on the right had more direct sunlight. Nice call on Bokeh shape. I LOVE the idea of this comparison. However I think you need another round, with more careful controls over motion, lighting and triple-check that focus. Also, it would be fun to see what happens if you compare your two PerGear lenses! I also wonder: which lens is *really* 25mm wide?
Thanks for a most informative and well produced review. With the range of low cost lenses from China now it is becoming rather confusing. It would be interesting to know if both Pergear lenses performed the same as I wonder how good quality control is with the lenses from China. I'm an Olympus user and have Meike 35mm f1.4, the 7 Artisans 55mm f1.4 and the Kamlan 50mm f1.1 Mk 1. The Meike and 7Artisans lenses perform like analogue lenses (no surprise) with the Meike being the sharper of the 2 and providing lovely colours. Both are good value. The Kamlan is a fun lens but the performance isn't that good. I believe that the Mk2 is much better.
Interesting observation. I have not tested Meike or Kamlan yet. I have a new upcoming video in 2 days about the surprising Pergear 35mm f1.2 - it's not live yet, but soon it will be: ruclips.net/video/0mGXaxkkw60/видео.html
@@ParadiseBizz Hi there. I look forward to seeing your revue. Many of the Chinese/legacy lenses are criticised for poor sharpness at full aperture and around the corners. I've just acquired Topaz Labs Sharpen A1 and am amazed at how it can improve poor images. The level of detail that it is able to extract is quite remarkable.
@@ianharper6015 Interesting, thanks for sharing this Ian. I just did a new review on the TTArtisan 21mm f1.5 With the aperture wide open it was almost un-usable. I'd love to see your app in action
really surprising to me, how much better the pergear performs. i have the pergear 12mm f2. and i am not very impressed. thats why i thought the 7artisans might be better here. but the pergear 25mm seems impressive...
Thanks for the great review! For quite some time I've been looking to get some nice little camera for street photo and ended up replacing my Canon 50d for a Fuji x-e1 cause the 50d was just too chonky for my street photo workflow. Thanks to your review I decided to get the 7 Artisans 25mm f1.8 and I couldn't be happier. This camera and lens combo is exactly what I was looking for for all those years of shooting soviet analogue rangefinders and perfectly suits my love for contrast and old imperfect soviet lenses.
I have the 7Artisans and what drives me crazy is that distances printed on the focusing ring are way WAY WAY!! off. If you set the lens at 4 feet by the scale it is in focus at 2 feet. Whoever did the calculations for where to print those numbers on the focusing ring must have been figuring for a completely different focal length. The depth of field scale is also pure fiction. For us old timers who used to do street photography from the hip by presetting focus from the scale it is a big deal that 7Artisans did not spend the time to get this right.
You just showed that good review doesn’t need fancy effects. Great job.

I wish I'd seen your review before purchasing my 7artisan. Good review with excellent comparative info.
The 7Artisans is still nice
Great review. Thanks. The comparisons really help with making a choice. I think I prefer the 7 Artisans because the colors look more realistic.

I have the 7Artizsans and not problems. It's a nice travel lens for indoor(churches, museums...).
It is definitely a nice lens and I'm glad you enjoy creating beautiful memories with it.
How is the focus breathing in both lenses? 7 artisans is a mess! Is pergear any different?
Pergear was a bit better, but far from being perfect

Thanks for sharing, looks like the 35mm f1.2 is consistent with the 25mm lens lineup. Is the 35mm a full frame lens or an aps-c lens?
@@ParadiseBizz I have the apsc version for fujifilm. I loved it because its imperfection, ideal for filmic looking images.
@@martinohesse Of course, other filmmakers purchase expansive filters to achieve that look
