  • This little 25mm lens from Pergear is a lovely little optic for APS-C cameras, that has something of a dual personality.
It can make images like a modern lens, but it can give vintage style images too.
It's very small, light and portable and won't weigh you down, and it has some very interesting background blur too!
Check out what it can do in the video!

A cheeky little lens , a charming little lens , you have a way of talking about gear the way a wine connoisseur talks about wine. Refreshing and interesting. Liked and subbed, very best wishes from Jake E.

This must be a new release. I've had the Pergear 25mm f1.8 lens for about 3 or 4 years and have always been very happy with what it does on my Fuji X-T20 camera. The characteristics appear similar to this f1.7 lens. Do you know, have there been any reviews comparing the two?

I'm cool with the low contrast. Looks like a nice lens.

I'm actually in love with the voightlander 35 2.5 at the moment. I want to send you my 200 2.8 prime from 1989

6:14 small niggle: "Multicoating" doesn't mean that multiple lens surfaces/elements are coated, it means that the coatings of the lens have multiple layers, further improving light transmission and thereby contrast over a single coating layer.
Early single coatings usually have a blue or yellow sheen but it's not a hard and fast rule, I believe there are single layer purple coatings as well though you often see purple or green on modern multicoated lenses.

I would like to see shots of that lens in a full frame camera. The Brightin Star 35mm 0.95 gives amazing results in full frame

    Isn't the minimum focus distance 0.8 foot / 20cm?

One lens I would like to see you review is the 7artisans 25mm f0.95 for APSC. I keep looking at reviews and I always thought that the lens had swirly bokeh.

Do you know if pergear has a compact, fast lens with a bit wider range, around 17?

if you want the real vintage+modern lens you should check Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.2 or 23mm f1.2

Now that these Chinese lens manufacturers are making AF lenses, I hope they make an AF copy of the Helios lenses.

The item does not mount on my xt5 camera correctly. It is too tight to lock up properly.

I wish these Chinese manufacturers would start remaking classic rare expensive lenses. The OM 40mm f2 and Canon FD 55mm f1.2 aspherical are two that come to mind. Both lenses sell for far above their original cost now on eBay, and there would be a lot of profit to be made by bringing out reproductions.

Lots of cheap Canon FD 55mm f1.2 aspherical type lenses out there from China. Aspherical elements are nothing special any more like they were in the 70's.

Light Lens Lab is doing that, worth checking out. They make a Cooke Speed Panchro and 8 element Summicron.

@@classic.cameras I don’t think the cheap Chinese fast 50s contain aspheric elements. Check out Kai W’s review of the Canon FD 55 f1.2 aspheric and you will see examples of the look it produces. I don’t think any of the new fast 50s can reproduce that look.

@@geofff6671 Yeah I remember that video. I found that lens to be very similar to my Canon FD 55 f1.2 SSC. You might be right, I may have got ED elements confused with ASPH elements as I am looking and most have ED lenses elements. But have not found ASPH. I have some modern lenses that cost $1000 plus that ASPH but not seeing anything in my brief search.
I do recommend doing a google search for "THE BEST FULLFRAME LENSES FROM CHINA" by Phillip Reeve. That's a good read.

A lot of these classic fast lenses may use glass formulations that aren't available any more, like thoriated glass or lanthanum glass.

Chcck your maths sir 25 mm on apsc is 37.5 mm not 33 as you stated and it should close focus to 20mm not 0.8 mtrs i think you were looking at 8 inches which would be 20 cm

    • @martinphilipps8678

and its not 20mm either, but 20cm close-up focussing distance 😂
