We use a Peugeot 306 fan switch here in South Africa it comes in abit earlier also we use the vw caddy radiator as it abit better then mk1 radiator.
That's how I remember my G-60 running, always asking for something.
Without watching the whole video before dropping my .02 cents in, the thermoswitch is probably junk. I've hot wired fans in these cars just to get home a bunch of times. As long as the jumper wire is a large enough guage you shouldn't melt anything. The fans draw quite a bit of current. You should get a low temp thermoswitch and t-stat anyways. The condition of both is unknown and the 16v runs rather hot in general so it can't hurt. Sounds like the shift linkage needs to be adjusted and maybe the ICV is dirty or bad that's why it dies when it idles down off high revs. Possibly an A/F mixture issue too... Just spitballing here without looking at it but based on experience it's all quite common. A bummer that you didn't get to go on the cruise either way but with an unknown car that hasn't been driven in awhile these are all quite common issues. 👍
Hey Mystery! I know this video may have been awkward for you, but glad you included us on the whole shake down. These are the things I go through with my projects and this keeps me going as I feel more and more like the shortcomings are normal lol! Curious to see how that custom shroud works when the car is running as it doesn' t have shudders like the stock shrouds. I'm guessing this would cause the fan to turn on while your moving as well? Its a pretty sweet setup though that looks a lot slimmer to accomodate that really nice G lader piping.
Thank you I appreciate that! Ya we will find out the more I drive it as well. This particular rad setup may not make the transfer when I pull the swap, I’ll have to see what’s up when that time comes! But thanks for the watch and appreciate the continued support! I’m going to try and incorporate more driving/testing videos more in the future if I can make it work! Cheers
Yes my switch works when the engine is off love these videos
Awwee that's the fun part. fixing and driving
Hahaha ya I’m going to try and get a few more videos like this, pretty fun to do and the unknown keeps you on your toes lol! Thanks for watching, appreciate the support!! Cheers
I’m saddened at the lack of MK2 in that parking lot Ryan lol.
I'm even more saddened by the lack of Mk1 stuff - at least Ryan showed up with his Cabriolet. Nice to see some air-cooled veterans show up. Those Karmann Ghias are gorgeous!
Woot a shot of my Gulf livery wrapoed mk2
Ah...the trials and tribulations of buying a custom built VW that has sat for too long. I feel your pain bro. I'm working through some bugs on a Mk2 Supercharged VR Jetta right now. It's a little different when you are the one that builds the car but when someone else has done the build, it really feels frustrating. Like, where do I start? As usual, great content R. Always look forward to these vids.
Using your foot to check out a problem is high tech in my generation, love it. Great video, greater car. Thanks, RickGTI 🔧
Subscribed from a Rallye Collector in the UK. Love that engine buddy
Hey Mystery. Hello from Ladner. Nice content. I'm doing a VW too...a rusty one. Keep em coming.
Nice video man! 👍🏼👍🏼
My mate had to do the same in his 1.8t cabby when we were coming from Inverness to Glasgow few months back... wired to sidelights and i could tell everytime lights were on he was getting warm 😁 love your vids man, I have a mk2 2.0 8v, mk2 16v, mk3 vr6, mk4 1.8t & mk4 pd130 so this channel is right up my street, so relatable 😂
Hahaha awesome!! Hey i appreciate the support alot!1 And thanks so much for watching! Welcome to the channel! Cheers
If you go to defrost or turn the A/C on that fan should run.
I would have solved that exhaust rattle by throwing the entire system in the bin where it belongs….along with those wheels 🤣👍🏻
Nice engine set up though 👍🏻 things just needs some fine tweaking, you can bet your life that nobody has ever changed the shifter mechanism or replaced all the bushings
You couldn't have fixed a new car like that? Old school ♥️
I personally rather hear no music than that free stuff that loops every 5 secs.
Thats a cool lil cabby! I'd love to own a golf 2d? MK1,2 or 3!
Mk1’s all the way!! Cheers! Appreciate the watch and the support thank you!
I can almost promise you have some small vacuum leaks. df1 is insanely sensitive to leaks.
Hahaha where’s the positivity!! But ya I agree hahaha no doubt I do! Some of the old vacuum lines are pretty dried up, and will need to go through and replace a few! Thanks for watching, love the support cheers!
@@MysteryGarage oh that is me being positive and pointing you into the right direction to fix the problem and
@@MysteryGarage also do not forget the ECU vacuum hose has to be 1 meter long due to the volume inside the hose. It has to be the same length for the ecu to calculate stuff.
Almost the same problems with my mk3 GTI I find one problem fix it and another one pops up.
Hahaha so true with these old builds!! But that’s part of the fun hahaha! Thanks for watching, appreciate the support! Cheers
Always a learning experience 😁
Man, I cannot watch now because I have to work on Mustang GT. 😖 But I will watch later today. Keep up the great videos!!
Thank you thank you!! Appreciate the support very much! Cheers
Didnt come home on a flatbed so there's that.
I thought that gage was for oil temp?
Ya that one probably was hahaha, but case and point neither that gauge including the water temp gauge in the cluster showed anything but perfect operation hahaha! And you’d think in a near boil over sitch, both water and oil temps should show something is up lol, oil temps should have started to climb (water cooled oil cooler) but not a stitch. Lucky I stopped for a wiper otherwise I would have been none the wiser hahaha! Thanks so much for watching! Love the support! Cheers
Your son did some good video work.
Right?? Hahaha he’s a good little sidekick, might need him around a lot more, give my film stands a break lol! Thanks for watching, appreciate the continued support!
Your 100 degree temp is actually for your oil.. not your coolant
Ya I know i derp’d when I was filming, temp gauge on the dash was normal too. If you read down in the comments, I answered someone else who said the same thing lol. Appreciate the comment and thanks for watching, and the support! Cheers
@@MysteryGarage ended up reading that comment👍
Great vids.. lovin the channel.
Keep them coming
👍
That car deserves to live. Don’t part it
