I love getting cars to run and then getting to go on a trip right after. It's a rush. One of my favorite memories was road-killing a MK4 GTI from 3 hours away all the way home. We zip tied half the car back together and reassembled it in the guy's garage and had a great time driving it home.
Right! Been on my list, I think I’ve mentioned it in a couple comments before, but I’ve been wanting to travel (fly, etc…) out to a car, sight unseen and drive it home after a revival! I think that would be so much fun and a cool deal for the channel. Just a lot of planning. Maybe one day!! Thanks so much for the support! Cheers!!
Nice to see a running g60 16v, the g60 is such an under rated motor. I had a g60 Corrado with a BBM lysholm and it was a better car then my VR6 Corrado. I now have the g60 lysholm in a 91 cabriolet after briefly running it with 16v in a Porsche 914. With the supercharger it makes these motors feel like little V8's, and paired with the peloquin diff you'll actually get the power down, it would be great for autocross which is why I wanted in my 914 at the time.
Man, you did a great job on this car. I have been a VW guy since I bought my first Jetta in 98.It was a MK1 that was super clean,2door,crank open sunroof, performance cam,and neuspeed springs. We loved it, but at the time all my friends had Hondas and it was frustrating to see them have so many after market parts readily available while I struggled to find them for my car. I had a guy who had a used VW dealership with a junkyard in back that I dealt with to customize my car. I wish I had a friend like you around back then.
Thats a nice mk1. I'm partial to the mk1/mk2 and especially the 16v variants, wether it's a 9A, PL or the awesome euro only ABF. I have built quite a handful of them back in the days. Lots of folks are either intimidated by them because they either don't understand how the CIS works, or they just convert them to Digi or some standalone setup. That BBM and Momentum stuff is a blast from the past in the early days of VW aftermarket tuning. Looks like it could use a ABF 50mm manifold or some ITB's and it would be even better. I had the Badger5 setup on a few cars I built back then and it was the cats ass. The exhaust looks pretty good being mandrel bent minus that weird transition they boogered on there. Glad you got the brakes sorted out. The RR caliper is almost always the first to seize up on the early VAG cars especially, so nothing new there. Those Epsilon's are a great looking period correct wheel for the mk1 chassis, kind of like how type-A's or Ronal Turbo's just look 'right' on these cars. Good job ditching the ricer pedals LOL. I just found your channel and you earned yourself a new sub. Keep up the good work dude!😉👍
amazing build! If you do put that setup into stepchild, you should go stand alone with turbo and make big power! hands down one of my favourite setups! enjoy!
Awesome an ABF 16 valve G60👍Should be fun to drive and they sound great too. There’s one local to me . I’m in Ireland his makes 297bhp . I have an 8 valve G60 in my mk1 golf there really quick . If your having any running issues . Check all your earth points they are very important . Also coolant temperature switch are temperamental .
I found a g60 for sale by me. I have a 2.1 block ready to go OBD1, built head ready to drop on. Wanna go Mk4 intake and run OBD2 ECU. Maybe get 180 hp. 😁
@@MysteryGarage I've been sharing ur videos as well with my fellow VW friends. I miss my MK1 GTI that I sold recently but it didn't go far, my friend bought it and he has to VRT waiting to go in. We will be tuned in to ur channel for sure.
Loving the channel. I have a 80 scirocco and I’m looking for floor pans and rust repair panels for where the rear axle mounts as well as the front frame horns. I noticed you have done some metal work to the mk1 golf and was wondering if you knew where to source replacement panels? Once again thanks for the content keep up the good work!
What a special mk1 cabriolet. That engine is amazing! Do not break it 🙂 is it helios blue? My mate has a helios blue cabriolet with a mk4 golf 1.8t in it. 😎
the brake looks like the Scirocco 16V brake. easy operation that can be repaired again. It is relatively expensive and the repair relatively cheap it is advisable to completely overhaul the G60 charger after it has been idle. He should get new sealing strips and a new belt. Theibach performance
My rear calipers are seized too! Well, at least the ebrake mechanism. Gonna crack them open to see what happened so I can try and have an ebrake again. Still original s2 mk1 calipers. Can't wait to see the cruise adventure!
Ya I recommend doing an aluminum swap from a mk4, far less seizure issues but that again depends on who you talk to because I too have had Mk1/2 calipers never seize and a few others seize often, however I’ve never had a set of mk4s seize yet. All you need is the adapter hose. If I had hoses handy, I would have put aluminums on this! Thanks for watching, truly appreciate the support! Cheers!
Fun fact about those rear brakes. They came on B3 Passats too. They don't really like brand new MK3 pads as they're too thick for the caliper to fit over. Pretty sure you have to use B3-specific pads. I replace mine with some MK4 calipers and never looked back.
B3 stuff hey!?!? That’s awesome, I didn’t actually know that! Ya mk4 stuff is the way to go! I did have a set here and considered it for a solution on this car but ip against time I didn’t have the swap hoses handy so I reached into the spares pile to get this one sorted! Thanks for watching, I appreciate the support! Cheers!!
A Fram filter on this engine? Please please please use something better. Those old VW iron blocks can handle a lot of stuff but cheaping out on oil filters is really not a good idea.
Not a bbm bracket kit. Alternator would be in rear. This is a bad ass motor!!! I’d make that a drag car over the vr6 supercharged motor🙂 let me know if you have any questions regarding that motor and that set up I’ve had probably eight of them that I’ve built already and pretty much know everything about that set up! It actually is one of my favorite go to motors for the Mk1 platform. I’m in the process of assembling a new motor for this season drag race in a rabbit. 🤟🏼
Hey, I don't think there's much to be done to get the " Erdbeerkörbchen" running properly again. I think the G60 16V will deliver around 250 hp and that's a lot of fun in the 1 series Cabrio. but now I will watch the video to the end OMG, there was much more than expected👍 but you solved them in only one night
Honest questions ( not trying to be an armchair mechanic): Isn't 5w40 a bit light for that engine? Also, I have read that both wheels can rotate together, without an LSD, if the diff is shimmed or even with just the factory preload? Great video! Can't wait to see this one driving!
That thing has some great parts on it, limited slip, etc. it seemed like those superchargers were unreliable but I never had the personal experience with it.
Only if you over rev them or, not rebuilding them often enough, and screwing up during the rebuild process for the most part. vw never intended for them to be rebuilt, there is 0 info from them on the g-lader rebuilds.
Do be honest this will be one of my first in-depth experiences with one as well. I mean I’ve had a g60 corrado or two pass by in my experience but nothing I’ve kept for too long or even jumped that far into! So this should be a lot of fun!! Thanks for watching, appreciate the watch and thanks so much for the support! Cheers

yeah, these are the sorts of cars that in the future fetch good money for their period correct spec.

How do you find these cars! Great find. What parts are you planning to use off this for stepchild? Isn’t it getting the ABF clone?
When cars sit too long, things break down on their own. They are made to be driven. Great video very informative and relaxing. Thanks, RickGTI….. 🇺🇸🔧
So in probably 1998-2002 this would have been a dream build for me.

I'm actually a little jealous. I have been wanting another VW and this one is going to be a great car to start out with.
