My aunt came to Tucson to visit us. We took her to Leo's Mexican Food, one of the best places in Tucson for Sonoran food. She spent the entire time telling us that "This isn't real Mexican food" because it was not like the Tex-Mex food she was used to. We told her that the food in her area is Texan food influenced by the food of the state of Chihuahua, not the food from Sonora and that it is just different. Both are "real" Mexican (well, Tex-Mex is kinda Mexican) and that what we were eating was authentic Sonoran food. Chimichangas are Tucson food though. They were first made here when a chef in one of our finer eateries dropped a burrito in the fryer then discovered he liked it, and thus a star was born. It can be enjoyed either plain or "enchilada style" with enchilada sauce, sour cream and topped with cheese. Either way, it's dynomite.
Hello Kimberly! After TWENTY YEARS of trying to convince my husband to visit Tucson, he finally agreed last November. I hadn't been there since 1979, but I always remembered how beautiful it was. He kept insisting that he had NO desire to visit there. Well, after being there for less than a week, he's now talking about us MOVING there!! LOL! Watching your videos is encouraging him even more. Can you suggest some decent neighborhoods that are walkable/bike able to grocery stores? Gated communities are nice, but I enjoy being able to walk into town, and walk to shops when it's nice outside. Thank you!
Hi there! What a cool story! Tucson is pretty big and spread out, so I’d have to talk to you personally to find out what area of town you prefer because depending on if you want the actual city or a suburb, my answer about different neighborhoods would be different… But in the city I would say anywhere that you live either close to downtown or close to the university, you will be walking or biking distance from shopping and restaurants and things to do, but I also like the neighborhoods off of Fort Lowell/camp Lowell, (A little bit more Midtown), River road, (which is a little bit more crowded), or sunrise/skyline, (Northside). I feel like if you lived in a neighborhood near one of those roads, you would be pretty close to everything from shopping, restaurants, coffee shops, small businesses, etc. I always encourage people to check out the website neighborhoodscout.com for crime statistics, so check out that website to give you an idea for the neighborhoods and which ones are traditionally lower crime. Feel free to reach out to me anytime with more specific questions about the city and neighborhoods! Thanks so much for your view and comment! ❤️
I wish I found your videos sooner! I just relocated to Tucson from NJ a few weeks ago, sight unseen, barring some research I did when I decided to move. I immediately fell in love. I came partially for work, and to be closer to my bf, but mainly for a more laid back way of life, and sunshine to ease my chronic pain. I'm moving to the Catalina Foothills next week, and can't wait. I'm currently staying downtown, which is okay during the daytime, but there are a few sketchy people in these parts. I expected it, especially having spent time in downtown LA. The Foothills area is beautiful. The people I've met have been wonderful, and helpful. I'm by no means a native Tucsonan, but this place feels like home already. I do plan on buying property within the next year, so I will absolutely be giving you a call. THANK YOU for these videos. I can't tell you how helpful they have been. It seems I'm adapting to this new and strange environment wonderfully.

Using these videos to plan ten days in Tucson in August. So far I’ve passed all the tests! Coming from Massachusetts so I’m sure the culture shock will be awesome!!!
Kimberly, great job. Having relocated here about 3 years ago and enjoying it (love the outdoors) our biggest adjustment was the food. While Tucson does have some great foodie places, I was disappointed on the spatially diversity of these food joints. To get great , diverse, foods you need to be in downtown Tucson, get outside downtown and food joints are petty ..meah.. was just a change for our other locations in the US where great food joints were a lot more dispersed thorough the town/city. Also, our big adjustment was Farmer’s markets, veggie stands. Tucson struggle for diverse local farmers products getting to us locals. Back East was an abundance of farmers stands, famers market. Here in Tucson very limited. So, a bit of a struggle.
Moving there in February from Austin, Tx. Need to co parent with my ex who wants to move home. Will miss my Tex Mex but I know Tucson also has great Mexican food from a prior visit. Thank God I already have an online job. Job market is sketch, but everything else seems great. Austinites are also very chill people. Thanks for your information. Ok kimberly , este lugar trás na lembrança dos filmes faroeste , era uma época de ouro nas nossas vidas , nao tínhamos precauções nenhuma , só esperávamos o final de semana , para assistir um bom filme .
Only downsides I've seen so far really are that pizza on the west coast/southwest basically sucks - if you're from NY or CT, you'll be disappointed. I've found some ok places in AZ and CA, but nothing that really compares to back east. Also, it's weird that it gets dark by 8 p.m. in the summer (7:46 p.m. right now on August 12, and it's dark).
Haha, whenever I go north on vacation in the summer, I always think it’s crazy how LATE the sun goes down! 😆 When I lived in Montana I remember the sun going down at 11pm and coming up around 5 hours later
For pizza I like Renee’s Organic Oven, Bear Canyon Pizza, and Serial Grillers. Those are all eastside but downtown and places near the university have great pizza places too
I'm from the east coast .Sunrise and sunset seem the same to me as Az. The pizza does seem better on the east coast but The vegetables and fruits seem much fresher. Also Mexican shrimp ? Delicious!
My watch says it’s 111 degrees right now, (I don’t know if that’s accurate but it’s pretty hot outside). Keep in mind it’s not humid and there’s usually a breeze here, but it’s still hot. I prefer it to high humidity, though, but that’s just my preference.

David, I’m the same way! I have a video on this channel about how Tucsonans survive the summers here… most find a way to get out of here for a vacation if they can! 😁
Going on 7 years, just outside the city limits. Much better than Phoenix and the Prescott area, where I lived prior. Phoenix was too crowded and it took a minute to get to a Mt Lemmon like biome. Prescott got very boring for me after two years of living there. Tucson area is the best.
Thanks for sharing! I love Tucson too! I’ve never lived in Prescott or Phoenix but there are things I like about both cities. Tucson is my home, though 😎🌵☀️🏠 Thanks for checking out the channel!
Dry rocky ground that can't grow normal vegetables, trees, flowers - weather that is too hot to breathe easily and severely dries out your face (truly feels that opening a very hot oven door and holding your face there). Winters are a pleasant temperature. People also need to know about Valley Fever before you decide to move here, you will get it and it can be fatal in some people if it progresses to secondary phase.
Tucson has been voted a highly bike-friendly city in terms of biking paths, mountain biking, and because of “The Loop,” which is a 135+ bike and pedestrian paved path that takes you all over the city. As far as biking around to get from place to place (as a form of transportation), it just depends on how close you live to all the things you like to do and see and the place you work. Summers are hot here so if you live too far, you may not enjoy the commute in the summer. However I know people who bike everywhere and are ok with it.
@@TucsonArizona thank you very much for the info! I could potentially spend my After Grad training here. I’m coming in from another country, Won’t be having a car but I love biking as a hobby, that bike lane alone would prove helpful at times!
I agree! So many food options here! I have any friends with all types of food sensitivities, allergies, and preferences, and Tucson has something for everyone! I’m glad other people think so too!
Yeah some of our roads aren’t great. And I’m in the process of making a video about our tap water. I get a lot of comments on this channel about the water. Thanks for the view and comment!
@@TucsonArizona For sure, just saw something about south tucson water being no bueno. In the Sabino canyon area I guess it's ok but the ice cubes were like opaque white where here in fort collins they are crystal clear. But in all seriousness if you drive a car you care about there are definitely some roads you should avoid. Also lot of cool vinyl shops in town and enjoy the Mexican food as well.
I have a reverse osmosis system set up for my drinking water and that makes all the difference. I recommend anyone not happy with the taste or look of their tap water to get one of those. Glad you liked the food here! ☺️
Question, i left Tucson in 1972 and havent been back, not that i didnt like the town but life changes. anyway i read about all the boarder crossers is it safe to explore the desert south of Tucson.
Glad I left there, 2 seasons, brown and green. Mostly brown. Move to the nicer areas like Flagstaff or show low. Everything from Phoenix down is a waste.
I like ShowLow and Flagstaff (and Sedona) a lot too, especially in the summers. Very beautiful! But I like the heat so I prefer Tucson in the winters. Thanks for the view and comment!
Ha ha, we do get some rain especially in the summers, we get monsoon storms from time to time and it’s usually enough to water our desert plants and keep them happy and healthy for most of the year… We get some humidity after those monsoons roll in… But for the most part we’re pretty dry year-round. Thanks for checking out the channel! 😁☀️☀️🌵
I can't wait to visit there. I'm sick of all this Pacific Nortwest greenery. We've got every single shade of green known to man. I need me some good desert atmosphere
This Channel's funny as hell they're just showing you the nice parts of Tucson Avid showing you how bad it is here if if you try to work for a living you're not going to make that much money here the only way as good as if you actually own a business here you do well if you work here you struggle
I loved your downtown Tuscon goodwill when we went there last! I forget what area it was but there was a costume shop, a pagan shop, thrift stores and I don't remember what else but the art down there was fantastic and the stores were neat and clean, workers were friendly.
I get a lot of questions about both of those things from new buyers. I need to make videos about both of those subjects 👍 Thanks for the view and comment!
I love how the housing that you showed was actually not even Tucson but actually was Oro valley I wish you showed the true Tucson Do not come to Tucson if you don't want people shooting up drugs at most every street corner.why didn't you show these people Alvernon and Grant or first and Ft Lowell??? I love how you showed our cultural food bit didn't show the areas in wich these establishment are hahaha trust me Tucson is not what this video has shown you but she's obviously trying to sale you a home... that being said Oro valley is not Tucson and yes its beautiful there but like I said don't venture to far down the hill with out a gun...
I live in Tucson not oro valley and there are many delicious cultural food and beautiful homes.. I've lived and visited many other cities and always liked the layback feeling in Tucson .Many cities have problems with drugs and guns, much more so than Tucson. If you can make it through the unbearably hot however beautiful Rainy monsoon, the winter's are beautiful and plenty of outdoor activities.
Ellen, thank you so much for your view and kind comment! It’s funny because there are a few clips on this video that were taken from Oro Valley but the bulk of them were taken from places all over the city, from Lakeside park, to Reid Park, to Mount Lemmon, to various places on The Loop, to Sahuarita Lake, etc. Tucson is huge and it is very spread out and different areas offer different things, both good and bad. I completely agree with you: I have been to some places that were extremely dangerous and had a ton of drug problems, both big cities and small towns, and most were much more expensive to visit or live in than Tucson is. Even though Tucson isn’t perfect, I like the dry heat and the desert’s beauty. I love the food and mix of cultures here, and all the arts and outdoor activities we can have almost year round. Thanks again for the view and have a great day!
Yes your right that was not Tucson Tucson sucks donkey ass if you buy a home in Tucson you are a fool I live around 22nd and country club. The fin gettho

I have a video about valley fever coming out in the near future. Thanks for checking out the channel!
How is tucson in terms of Bike-ability?
Glad to help!
Oro Valley, just north of Tucson, is a cyclist dream. Miles and miles of bicycle only pathways.
I have buyers who move here specifically for Oro Valley and cycling there
We are vegan, and Tucson ROCKS the vegan food offerings. Love it!!
I agree! So many food options here! I have any friends with all types of food sensitivities, allergies, and preferences, and Tucson has something for everyone! I’m glad other people think so too!
During monsoon season the humidity will be as high as the Gulf Coast, don't let anyone fool you, summers are like Hades.
Was just down to visit and help my grandma, while I like the landscape, the roads and water suck.
Born, raised and still in Tucson. Don't think I could live anywhere else.
Me too! I feel the same way! 😊 Thanks so much for your view and comment!
No rain? No humidity? I’m sold. 😊👍🏻
Greenery is great too! But I also like the desert. It’s all beautiful to me 🥰
After 49 years, got out of Dodge. Too damn hot for too many days now. Was diff when I was young.
I lived in Tucson since 1994, like it, and only think #2 is relevant.
Thanks so much for checking out the channel! I agree with you! 😁
This Channel's funny as hell they're just showing you the nice parts of Tucson Avid showing you how bad it is here if if you try to work for a living you're not going to make that much money here the only way as good as if you actually own a business here you do well if you work here you struggle
Funky is a good way to describe it
Haha 😛
I loved your downtown Tuscon goodwill when we went there last! I forget what area it was but there was a costume shop, a pagan shop, thrift stores and I don't remember what else but the art down there was fantastic and the stores were neat and clean, workers were friendly.
So glad you enjoyed! Downtown Tucson has some great shops, restaurants, museums, and breweries! 😁
Bornd and raised fucking love tucson u only know if you know 👍
I feel the same way 😁
It's real hot during 9 months out of the year, very congested with slow drivers so have fun outdoors
Starting to sound like the place for me.
Tucson would love to have you! 🌵☀️😎
I will add: Do not come here if you hate driving around a lot.
Haha, I agree
Wait wtf your Tucson intro was my cousins old neighbor hood 😐
Oh haha, Sahuarita?! I love that place! Great area! 🌵😎☀️
The water shortage and scorpions are the only things I don’t like. 😬😧😢🤷🏼♀️
I get a lot of questions about both of those things from new buyers. I need to make videos about both of those subjects 👍 Thanks for the view and comment!
Wish this existed before I moved here 20 years ago lol
Ha ha! Thanks for checking out the channel! 🌵🌵🌵
Hawaii is the other state that doesn't observe daylight savings time.
Thanks for letting me know! I didn’t realize that 👍
Dont come to Tucson if you don't like 105-110 temps in the summer
Swimming season!
I love how the housing that you showed was actually not even Tucson but actually was Oro valley I wish you showed the true Tucson
Do not come to Tucson if you don't want people shooting up drugs at most every street corner.why didn't you show these people Alvernon and Grant or first and Ft Lowell??? I love how you showed our cultural food bit didn't show the areas in wich these establishment are hahaha trust me Tucson is not what this video has shown you but she's obviously trying to sale you a home... that being said Oro valley is not Tucson and yes its beautiful there but like I said don't venture to far down the hill with out a gun...
Agree 💯.
I would stay out of city. The mayor is defunding the police. Pot holes, weeds, attacks, murders. #livingalie
There are definitely parts of the city that are nicer than others. The suburbs are very nice as well. Thanks for your view and comment!
You need a pool. Just saying
Yes! ...or a best friend with a pool ☀️😎
Native of tucson, nice place to visit, but believe me you don't want to live here.
Agreed, born and raised. 90% of the people I know that were born here don’t wanna be here, and I’m young lol
Smith pshh
