Local since '71: I miss Greasey Tony's on Speedway near the U of A. Their hot meatball sub was my undergraduate hangover cure. Lil' Abner's owner Dave Hoffman passed away recently. I knew him since Rugby in '71/'72. Great guy. He knew all the obscure Rugby Songs. Taught me how to chug beer. Later I'd rig lighting for events at his ranch in Catalina.
Love Pinacle Peak, but I heard their sister operation, El Corral quit serving the Cowboy Beans [pintos]. IDKY. I prefer the Carne Seca at El Minuto to El Charrito's. [I once asked for ,,carne seca'' at a Mexican place in El Centro, CA... [They even had an autographed Blue Angels photo on the wall...] They thought I was a loco gringo: ,,There is no such thing as Carne Seca,'' they said. As a stagehand at TCC often, I ate at El Minuto regularly. They knew me, and would get me served quick, since they knew my lunch hour was limited.
Love Eegee's. After a fenderbender 30 years ago, I had to ditch my glovebox Bacardi hip flask that I used to ''warm up'' the slushee on the way home.
Fortunado's and Bobo's I 've never tried. I'm in Oro Valley.

The Solarium ! Wow! What a mind blast. The floor to ceiling glass, hot temperatures, the hippy atmosphere, . I was there once, maybe 16 years old.
Too dated, for me even then. This was in the late 70's We were served by one of my stoner high school friends. I tried to keep my head down.
Baked Tomatoes, with Monterey Jack Cheese ! Trippy and groundbreaking then. I guess...
      Cheers

I lived in Tucson for 27 years and El Charro was the first one I went to in 1972. I had Carne Asada and I have yet to find it any better anywhere else. Alejandro's Tortillas are simply THE best! Lucky Wishbone is the franchise that should be famous nationwide......WONDERFUL Steak Fingers! Luke's Chicago-style Deli.....OMG!
I've lived in a number of places around the country and I learned that when you move away fom some place that it is the local restaurants that you miss the most and Tucson has some incredible restaurants.

I have lived here my entire life, and Karichimaka Restaurant on Mission Road is, in my opinion, the best Mexican food in town. Eegees is a national treasure, but ever since new management took over in the last few years, their sandwiches are not the same but the drinks are still awesome. Pinnacle Peak is my favorite place to go for steak dinners. And I am so glad that you included Bobo’s because that there’s a little hole in the wall place that a lot of people do not know about but their breakfasts are off the chain! You can never go wrong if you go to Lucky Wishbone.

    Hey Kimberly,
    Awesome as always...
One important suggestion: The end music had banjos and fiddle, which unfortunately is a hard perception of Tucson... The South.
Tucson is one of the oldest inhabited settlements in North America.
The 'perception' is that it's 'southern', with long drawls in accents, and 'southern' type of culture.
It's not obviously. Hell, I live in northern California and when I tell people from here that I'm from Tucson, they ask why I don't have a 'southern accent'. Yeah, really.

    • @TucsonArizona
      @TucsonArizona  2 месяца назад

Good point! Yeah there are a lot of funny perceptions about us Tucsonans. Some people think we’re all going to be dressed straight out of a John Wayne movie, some people think we’re going to have southern accents, some people think we have a lot of wild fires here because it’s a dry desert. 🌵 ☀️

We have a lot of Greek and Indian restaurants here but for the Greek restaurants, I believe you are referring to Opa’s Grill and Opa’s Best Greek American Cuisine, correct? While I like some Tucson restaurants, like Pinnacle Peak steak, The Parish, Fiamme Pizza (best authentic Naples style pizza, along with Tavolino), Tavolino and Hi Falutin -- I think that Chandler AZ and surrounding area, has way more options, and great food choices, as well. That said, I haven't tried a few of the restaurants on your list.. so, I've got my appetite stirring, now. 🤩

I'm currently in LA (Hollywood) I been out here for 5 years and I miss my Tucson restaurants and it's not all just Mexican restaurants, tho they are very delicious but Tucson offers all types of American food which I got to give another shot out to PATS CHILLI DOGS in west Tucson on grande ave in between st Mary's and speedway since 1961

Also I can make a top 10 Mexican restaurants in Tucson easily... I got a cheat sheet ( look up 25 top Mexican restaurants in region not jut Tucson, but Tucson owns all 25 lol so it's the people's choice of course) but to satisfy all Americans on visiting that's a whole different experience so satisfy to your clients needs... that's the American way

    • @georgetheroman4795

The American way? If you have a business and don’t cater to your customers, you have no business. Doesn’t matter where you are. Or else you could have state controlled authoritarian rule where everyone is equally starved and oppressed.

@@georgetheroman4795 That's exactly what @AZlilzo520 is writing. "Satisfy to your clients needs... that's the American way" I'm not sure the confusion but all of my experiences in Tucson have been just that: Restaurants having a great cuisine and presenting it to make their customers happy.
